Karen,
Yes... I know so well that mixed feeling of Yay... I've graduated.. Followed almost immediately by.. Oh Crap, I've graduated!
It's good and a bit scary as well! But, as the nurse at my BS's office said, we are never more than a phone call away! And we have each other here!
Not sure of the type of original surgery you had but, I do believe that, if your insurance covers a mastectomy that, by LAW, they must also cover the surgery to make the other breast match!
As for the Vitamin D (and hopefully it's D3)... When I got tested I was already taking a multi that had 400 IU of D plus a Calcium (600 mg) and D (800 IU) combo.. My D level came back as 27.. My onc said to start with an additional 1000 IU of D3, bringing my total intake to 2200 IU's.
My Husband went for his physical about a year ago and the Doc (We have the same PCP) ordered a Vitamin D test done on him.. Not sure what his results were because he didn't ask and did not request a copy of his report (Lord... Have I taught him nothing??). He must have been ridiculously low because the PCP called and told him to start taking 4000 IU per day of D3.
I have not had my levels retested since the initial test but, now that you've brought it up, I think I will talk about being re-tested when I go in May!

Thanks Seaside, that's exactly what I felt, oh good I've graduated, oh god I've graduated. Thanks for the info on vitamin D3, I think I'll push it up another 1000, I tested at 30 and add a multivitatamin. I've not been taking one. Do you feel it helps with joint pain, I am taking Arimidex and that has become my worst SE. My BS called my surgery a partial mastectomy, since he took out 2 tumors, One was at 2:00 and the other was just below it, he said he had to take out more than he initially planned, I had clear margins and no lymph node involvement, did have SNB biopsied and it was clear.

I'm a 3 month non-smoker now and I am totally surprised. Never thought I could do it. I think my exersizing really helps, it does help with your mood and is part of my program in quiting smoking. My BS was so happy I had quit and the weight loss too. I am no fan of exersizing, but it really helps. Karen

Karen: The reconstruction is a federal law; so don't let the ins. co. BS you on it. They have to cover it. I can't remember the name of the law, but it was passed while Clinton was in office. It's called the Women's Health Initiative or something like that.

Bama, thanks for that little law that my insurance company didn't seem to know about. I will be on the phone to them on Monday. Sneeky little buggers. Karen

Karen,
I do think the extra D, in conjunction with exercise, was helping in the stiffness department. I also think the multi-vitamin helps with energy levels! They wanted me off of all vitamins for a week or so before my D&C and I am trying to get back to remembering to take them!
Strange thing... I have recently been having bouts of acne. Are you kidding me? I told my husband my body needs to decide if it's 80 or 18 because it stinks that I am getting the bad parts of BOTH age groups! He voted for 18...lol!

Dear seaside, I was just complaining to my daughter about stiff knees and acne too. She let me try a cleansing kit she got for my grranddaughter's facial blemishes and an acne zapper cream. My what goodies these AI's leave you with. I had to buy a conccealer for the bumps! Karen

Jan,
Happy Easter to you as well! I hope your first road trip with the girls is GREAT!
Edited to Add: Karen, Just wanted to say congrats on reaching 3 MONTHS!!!! When I quit that 3 month mark was a HUGE milestone for me. For the first time, I really felt like I had this whole smoking thing licked! So proud of you!!!
To all,
I hope all of you have a great Easter!!

Thanks Seaside, I do feel like a nonsmoker now, no more going to bed to limit smoking time, now I go to bed to avoid eatting, but I have promised myself to stop this weight gain. I don't allow myself to eat after 7 pm and so far have adhered to this promise for about 9 evenings. Karen

Bama, ARE YOU OK???
Just saw the news about the tornado outbreak that happened last night and is still occurring all across the south!!!!!
Saying prayers for you and for ALL of our sisters in the south that you are all unharmed and safe!

Me and the 'girls' are home from their first road trip.
Had a great time and even went a day or so without thinking about BC!
Bama: I hope you are ok in Al. I don't know where you are but I hope all is well. We seem to be ok here in NC (along the coast).
So, I've gained a total of 14 lbs in 7 months. I'm assuming from smoking cessation AND tamoxifen combined even though I go to the gym every other day or so. But I got really pissed because I had to go buy a size 12 pants UGH!!! SO....I went out and hired a personal trainer. I start on May 2nd and he 'guarantee's results in 90 days (I know this guy so I believe him plus I know others that went to him) or double your money back. Seems fair to me!
I also think my 'girls' are dropping AND fluffing....he he....I'm fitting into some older tops. I'm waiting for a date for nips (July).
Well, to all those in the South and Northeast be safe.

Hi all, just got back from an assembly at our middle school Both my granchildren were inducted into the Honor Society!! So proud of them. Jan, I gained 20 form the Arimidex, and 20 fom quiting smoking. I already lost 7 from following the E Lab thread. I bought a recumbent bike and exersize 2 hrs.,each day, it sure is harder to take it off than putting it on. I am losing by being very strict with myself, something I learned fom the Stop Smoking routine, and the benefits of exercise, and I do not like exercising, but you do feel better. Karen

Bama,
Still thinking of you and hoping that you are safe! Seeing the news coverage of the destruction is just heartbreaking!
Saying a prayer tonight for you, and all affected by this disaster!

Jan,
Glad to hear your first road trip with the twins went well!! I know I have read comments on the "drop and fluff" but am not really sure what that means only that it is good when that happens! So YAY!!!
Oh I so hear you on the weight gain... Ugh!!! I'm at about 20 pounds and holding steady (at least thank goodness for that)... I too am now back in my size 12's and they are tight! My closet looks like a department store (although a bit out of date....) in that I have sizes that range from 10-14....
I know some of it is from the quitting smoking but I do think lots of it is from the Tamoxifen! My sister had a diagnosis of ADH before my diagnosis and was offered Tamoxifen at that point. She declined due to no other risk factors. Once I had my diagnosis, she started Tamoxifen.
She was not a smoker and has experienced the same weight issues, although perhaps to a lesser degree, as I have!
Great choice to hire a personal trainer!!! Let us know how it goes!!!

Karen!
Being rewarded for all of their hard work and being inducted into the Honor Society is a significant accomplishment!!! They should be VERY proud of themselves.
Sometimes I think, in the schools, academic/arts excellence takes a back seat to athletic excellence. Happy to hear that your school district celebrates academic achievements with a ceremony!
So HAPPY for you on the weight loss!!! I saw your exercise points over on E-LAB and had to blink a few times before I was sure I didn't see it wrong! You and AINM I think are our exercise heroes!! Hope to follow in your footsteps soon!
I am sure that the pride they feel is a mere fraction of the pride you have in them!!!!

{{{BAMA}}} Prayers going up for you girl!!
Gals, DH is taking me out to dinner tonight to celebrate 11 months of not smoking! It is really on Monday but a Saturday night out is more fun! Still can't believe it.
So, hugs to all of you who are newly smoke-free. Just know that it can be done!

Dear Barbara, 11 months, that most definitely deserves a dinner, and what a fine man to recognize it. I am now on my 3 and 1/2 month anniversary, never thought that would happen. Has anyone heard from Sweet too, we are all praying both are OK and we are anxious to hear from them. The pictures and stories coming out of the south are truly heartwrenching. Karen

{{KAREN}}} congrats to you! I am praying hard for all the folks in the south. My BFF's mother's BFF had a tornado level her house in GA, 5 miles from my BFF's mom's house. So sad.

Bama and all of our friends in the south... Thinking of and praying for all of you tonight!

Barbara!!! 11 MONTHS!!!
I can barely believe that it has been that long!!!! SO happy for you! Enjoy that dinner!!!
PS.... Just as an aside, May 5th is O2B's 2 YEAR quit-aversary! We'll have to plan something wonderful!

Karen,
It really is so amazing, that once you reach a certain point in the process, how the "non-smoking thing" just kind of falls into place. That's not to say that it doesn't enter your mind from time to time but, it ceases to occupy ALL of your time and energy!!! And when it does pop up, it gets easier to say mentally, "Thanks, but no!"
Congrats on your 3 1/2 months!!!
Sweet,
We have not heard from you in such a long time! Please know that we are all thinking of you and hoping that all is well!!!

I add my MISS YOU to Sweet also!!
Prayers for all the folks in the south.

Cinco de Mayo party for O2B!!! I'm in!

I'm in too, though you'll have to tell me what to do, I can't post pictures though.

Karen,
The quit-aversary parties are just a bit of fun that we have by posting different pictures of what will be at the party! Some of it food, some of it drinks, some location and some.... well, of the wait staff that will be present! That last one Yikes!!! It's all in fun!!!
No problem if you can't post pictures although, are you sure you can't? You can still attend and post!!!
The reason I ask is that I thought I couldn't either but, as it turns out, IF it is an image from the internet that has an actual http:// address, you can just right click on the image, select copy and then in your breastcancer.org reply box, right click, select paste... A window will pop up saying something, can't recall what but, answer "Allow Access". It will look like nothing happened. You have to do it again and then your image will appear!
This does NOT work for photos that you have on your personal account. For that you would have to up-load to a service such as shutter-fly so that it has an actual http:// address. Something I have not ever done!
If you want a little peak as to what to expect, you can take a look back around page 123 of this thread!!! That was my 1 year quit-aversary!!

Seaside, I'm better at quiting smoking and exercising than attempting to post a picture, you would literally have to stand behind me and show me how, many, many times. I checked out pg. 123 and the "yikes" is very nice!! I'll be the poster in for the party Remember, I'm the one who sends my info to o2bhealthy, because I can't do columns for the weight loss thread.
