Jo, I wanted to post a congratulations picture but, my Ipad won't let me do it and my son is doing his schoolwork on my/our shared laptop....
I think for all of us, we will NEVER tire of success stories!! 10 weeks is JUST fabulous, especially given the fact that your husband is not quite there yet! I think that is truly a testament to yourcommitment and speaks volumes as to what a strong woman you are!
From other threads I have read, it sounds like you are going to be part of Chrissyb's adventure!! I hope you all have a blast!0 -
To all....
My in-laws are here again and they both smoke....
I really don't feel like I can make a couple of 80+ year olds go out to smoke so they are smoking in my house.... Used to be a HUGE temptation but, I have to say, after over a year and a half without smoking, I'm not tempted but, rather finding it to be unpleasant to be around!
What a diiference time makes.... Although, I will still say... I don't think MY cigarettes smelled this bad.....lol....
They go home tomorrow so will get those windows open and air everything out.....0 -
Seaside - You are the one who needs to be congratulated. Once the house is free of the smoke smell, you want to keep it that way. And how strong you are to not even be tempted. I can't believe just how bad I used to smell.
I have to confess, what keeps me sane is the e-cig and candies. Sorry ladies, but right now that is my saving grace. Perhaps in time I will set a date to put that aside as well - just not right now. It maybe in the spring - my job is very stressful and this will be a true test for me. I have to add as a reminder that my e-cig does not have nicotine in it.
I am leaving on Friday for San Antonio and getting so excited to meet Chrissy and the other ladies. I have to tell a quick story. Chrissy contacted me and wanted to see Texas. Well, my brain went into overdrive and I said - come to San Antonio and I will drive up there (5 hours). I knew there were several gals in that area and SA is so central for a lot of folks. Will take lots of pictures.

Jo,
Please do post as to how the San Antonio visit goes!! Sounds like you have a bunch of people and, how incredible to be a part of, what I'm thinking, is a once in a life-time event!!
Also, I have a friend who is wanting to try the e-cig.... Once my company is gone, I'd like to get your opinion on some things.....
Use whatever methods you need to stay the course.... You've been through the worst of it.... All it does is get better from here!0 -
Seaside - On the e-cig, ask away. I do know it is working for me. Every once in a while I will use DH's that has the nicotine. Nothing like the real thing, but does take care of the few cravings I still have from time to time.(((HUGS)))

You should see what actual doctors say about the benefits of meditation for smoking. http://bit.ly/p55fVK

Stopped smoking the day of my surgery!!! Had smoked for 29 years and although my DH still smokes I can honestly say I don't miss it. ( I had wanted to quit for a long time) Six months on the 29th of this month.

Hi ingoodcompany, welcome to the thread, congratulations on 6th month quit anniversary!!! Jo, too, is a non-smoker with a DH who is finding it difficult to quit, but she is holding strong. Wesliesgirl, welcome to you too, thanks for the link - I know how calming meditation is for me. Karen

Welcome ingoodcompany to the thread and congrats on your 6 month quit anniversary. These gals are great - so supportive and full of encouragement. I know I have been a real pain in the ass at times but they always want me to stick around. I smoked for over 40 years and like Karen said my DH is still smoking and in the house to boot. The end of this week will be 12 weeks for me.0
-
Wow, Jo, it has been three months already. Keep it up!!!!

Barbara - This is a piece of cake as long as I have my Crystal Light candies and my nicotine free e-cig. DH is still smoking and it does not seem to bother me at all even when I have to ride in his truck.
Guess I am trying to rush things a bit - looked at my calendar again and this Friday will be 11 weeks. Sorry for the miscount.

Welcome, ingoodcompany and Congrats on 6 months!!
Jo,
What you just posted is SO huge!!
You miscounted.... which means you had lost track of how long it had been! In the beginning, you not only tend to know not only how many weeks it's been but, also how many days, minutes and even seconds it's been! BUT then, one day it happens... You have to ask, how long HAS it been?
BIG turning point! I think for me it was right around week 16.... You are ahead of the curve!!
You are doing great! I am very proud of you!0 -
I agree with Seaside.......... once you have to stop and think about how long it's been rather than counting days or weeks you are out of the woods so to speak.

I saw my MO yesterday - had to get one of DHs bills taken care of - anyway, I gave him the news and he was so pleased. I told him it was harder dealing with BC than to quit smoking and that is the absolute truth. BC was such an emotional roller coaster and quitting smoking was more a test of my patience which I have a lot of.

I have no patience and I thought quitting was harder than the BC for me.

Hi ladies, well im glad i found you all........I have been trying to quit since being diagnosed in March, DCIS Stage2 T3, i feel guilty everytime i have one, i am due to start radiation soon after i recover from my bilateral, i am down to 3 a day for the most part and you would think under the circumstances it would be easy, any advice you can give would be wonderful, thanks soooooooo much Bev

Jo just quit using an ecig. VJ has a booklet she will give you (she is a smoking cessation counselor) and I am sure she will be along shortly. Welcome! It wasn't easy but most of us did it. Some still struggle but we understand. I used auricular stimulation and I have been quit a year. it was so easy this way. Maybe you can Google it and see if they have one in your area.

Bev - Like Barbara said, I use an electronic cig as my DH is still smoking and in the house. Before that I used a natural quit smoking spray that really worked for me. You can go to quitsmoking.com and search for the stop smoking spray. It is just a little over $20,00 a bottle and worth every dime. I also have an ample supply of Crystal Light hard candies - I pop one of those in my mouth even now when I have a craving. I am at 11 weeks and never thought I would be in a position to help someone else - this is so cool. Hang in there - like all these fantastic gals will tell you - it does get better with time.0

Hi--I have 3 different cessation "books" that I will send a PDF fle of to anyone who asks--just send my your email address. Free, no strings. "Tip" book, an actual 6-week "workbook" and a more traditional book. I'll send all three or anyone you want.
On another note-I just got back from Washington DC as part of the American Cancer Society's Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). There were 511 of us and we represented all 50 states, met with 100% of the Senators and 87% of the Representatives to advocate that in these tough budgetary times that cancer research and prevention should be an American priority and should not be cut. It was very exciting. I met with staff from both Senator Boxer and Feinstein's office and three of Southern Californias representatives. We were swarming all over Capitol Hill on Tuesday. On the Mall next to the Capitol reflecting pool, there was an ACS 10 year birthday Celebration going on with games and prizes. That night the reflecting pool was surrounded with luminaries with HOPE and CURE spelled out. It was really cool.

Welcome Bev!!
We're glad you found us, too! I have read VJ's workbook and can say that it is a really great resource.... Covers everthing from how to assess your readiness, to aids that may help, to quitiing and staying smoke free!! Just loaded with excellent info!
I know I posted someplace in this thread some things that helped me and, when I get a few minutes I will try to find that post and re-post it here...
I was a pack and a half a day smoker for over 30 years (we'll just pretend I started when I was 2..... lol) and cutting back is exactly how I started.... Being down to just a few is a GREAT start...
Welcome aboard! You'll find the ladies here will help you tremendously!0 -
VJ,
How EXCITING!! Now I just hope they will listen.... In these hard times, it seems nothing is off limits!
That reflecting pool with the lumiaries must have been breathtaking!
Always good to hear from you!0 -
Hi Bev, always good to "see"" a new face. I was a pack to a pack and a half smoker, who thought I could never quit. I am a 8 mo. non-smoker now, thanks to this great group of women. I cut back to 6 per day, got an e-cig and came to the group in times of stress. I used the e-cig for two months totally off cigarettes. Now I chew bubble gum or any strong flavored gum, like Big Red in place of any cravings. I see you are already down to three, that is fantastic. I also added exercise to my day, at least 1/2 hour each day, except Sunday, that seemed to help also, as did drinking a lot of water each day. It's good to have you. Karen

Hi Karen, thanks for your support, what point were you at in your treatment when you managed to quit???, and where do i get this e cig from???? im in kamloops BC..............I just love this site its helped with so many questions and i dont feel alone, like everyone im sure i thought 'death' was imminent when i was diagnosed, until i joined this site...........and see how many people go through this even on more than one occasion and still live long lives........thanks again honey B:)

Hi VJ, thanks honey for your help.............i feel so guilty for being in this position, people say you have cancer how can you smoke!!!, i cant answer that, i just want to stop and give myself the best chance i have for beating this critter!!, stay in touch B:)

Dear B, I had finished treatment when I quit, there are others on this site that were mid-treatment or quit day of surgery. I think that at 3 cigarettes you are below the 4mg of nicotine that I was using. The website is www.directecig.com, they do have e-cig with no nicotine, they are not inexpensive. The one that Jo is using is less expensive and has no nicotine. Jo, I think it's so cool that you are doing support now, that will make it easier for you to be strong. hugs ladies, Karen

Bev - You can google electronic cigarettes and will come up with numerous results - then it is a matter of doing your research. I found a place locally that sells the one I have. I like the fact that I don't have to wait for things to come in the mail. If I have a problem, I can go back to the store. I had a problem with one of the components and I got an exchange right on the spot - no questions asked. I have a one year guarantee. I am told that you want to make sure that the product you are getting is not made in China and these are not closely regulated. Mine was made in the US and does go through many more inspections, etc. If I can help you more with this, feel free to PM me.
I am at 11 weeks tomorrow and still use my e-cig very once in a while. I was a pack a day smoker for over 40 years and my DH is still smoking so it is kinda hard for me. The e-cig helps with the few cravings I still have.
