Karina, congrats to you. I think we are officially smoke free partners - I did it, on 11/22 so am working on day five in the non smoking zone.

Jo. thanks for your inspiration. I just switched from the patch to nic gum and omg, i think i od'd on the gum last night lol. I had such a hard time sleeping and had the most bizzare series of dreams.

today is day 37 for me, I have to say that is does seem to finally be getting easier.  on Thanksgiving when relitives were sneaking out to smoke I really just did not want to go with them, and when they came back in they stank, and I said to myself, that is what I used to smell like.  I think at this point it would actually make me sick to smoke.  not that i don't have the occasional craving but they are few and far between now go away pretty fast

Dear Dara and djfrro, you're both doing so well, especially when you consider you did yor first away from home holiday!!!!!!!  Isn't it amazing how foul stale smoke smells?  No more sneaking off into a garage or outdoors to smoke.  With Karina that makes 3 non-smokers.  Be sure to mark your quit day on a calender, because pretty soon instead of counting days and weeks, you'll be tracking months and offereing your advice to newbies.  Way to go, everyone stayed strong!  Karen

DJfroo, awesome,  It is pretty sweet not sneaking around like a damn criminal!

Karen, there is a great website for us good quitters, I think it is quitnet.com. It calc ulates the quit date, acknowledges anniversaries with printable certificates and calcualtes the cost savings. I am thinking this time next year.......a nice romantic get away around the world, using money saved by not smoking. And in my fantasy, I am with a new man that I just met lol.

This is a great site and congrats to future quitters, new quitters and seasoned quitters. In our case, being a quitter is AWESOME.

Peace to the newest quitters....One minute at a time and you can do it.

Hi all of you smoke-free sisters!  I'm popping in as you all reach page 200 here.

As a former smoker (just for a few years, a long, long time ago,) I am so happy for all who have succeeded in quitting so far.  For the others still trying, don't give up.  You can do it.  You will do it.

I just came off a thread where some were writing about "making changes" to prevent B/C. While I failed to jump on that bandwagon, I do think the causation of smoking leading to lung cancer is pretty clear.  If you ever even entertained the idea that doing something could keep cancer out of your life, stopping smoking is one of the more substantial ones.  Well worth it.

As a daughter of a mom (smoker for 60+ years) who died from lung cancer, I can definitely say you do not want to put yourselves through that.   The whole oxygen tube thing just makes a horrible fashion accessory, believe me.

So, keep up the good work.  I'm proud of all of you  That's it.

Haven't posted in several days.  Just wanted to stop in and let everyone know I am still hanging around.  The past several days have been crazy busy especially at work.  Seems the busy days have really been a help in staying smoke free.  I did not realize how more work I can get done if I don't have to stop and go out to have smoke.  It was really cold this morning - 38 degrees - and I was so glad I did not have to stand out in that just to take care of that habit.

djfrro - You are doing so well - you are amazing.  Keep it up - it does get easier.

Karen - How goes it with you?  Hope you had a good weekend.

Hey Jo, had a great Thanksgiving Day weekend, went to a friend's home for dinner, she should really be a chef.  She made an apple, caramel walnut pie, it was fantastic.  I hope you got to have a Thanksgiving dinner, or are you on-duty for that also?  The ladies here have been doing great, Dara, Karina and djfrro are all non-smokers now and doing a fantastic job.  I don't think we have ever had 3 women quitting in the same time frame.  Karen

Eleven days smoke free for me!!!!!! So far so good. The best feeling about quitting is that you realize you can control something instead of  being controlled and that's great, Hope to keep going...

Dara, djfrro- so well done !!!

Karen, Jo, Elimar, Dorothy - thank you all so much. And this thread " opened my eyes" more than anything else for years. Keep going girls.

    Love, Karina

I just noticed that Karina had the 6,000th post on this thread.  Way to go keeping this thread going.

Karen - We did have a nice Thanksgiving dinner with the residents in the rec hall.  We do consider it a work day at least for a few hours.  Ate way too much.

Dara - Congrats on one week smoke free.  The first couple of weeks is the hardest and you will get through it.

Karina - 11 days is fantastic.   Keep going!

Oh djfrro - hang tight.  You can do it.  I'm so impressed with all the three ladies who are quitting buddies.  Cudos to Katrina & Dara too.

I quit 7/11/07.  Doesn't mean I don't want a cigarette off & on, but I guess I'm really a "non smoking" smoker.  Just got back from a cruise vacation.  Passengers could still smoke on one side of the ship.  All the dead smoke eally didn't smell good walking through the casinos.

    Keep up the good work.

MinusTwo - I have been on 7 cruises and even when I smoked, I could not stand the stale smell in the casinos. I could not wait to get away from it.  DH would drop a few coins in the slot machines every once in a while.  It will be interesting next year when we go again.  DH is still smoking and I am not.

djfrro - Repeat after me - I can do this, I can do this.  Keep up the good work.

    djfrro,

Sorry to hear that you went looking for some butts (been there, done that).... Early on I even, God help me, eyed one laying on the ground that wasn't even mine (and passed on it..lol)

Glad to hear there were none to find!!! One thing I know is true... It would not be the same as you remember it.... No big Ahhhhhh...More like, if you remember when you first started, that queasy, kinda turning green and coughing feeling...

You've come so far... Don't give in now!

PS.... Just wanted to add.... Not sure who the little girl is in your avatar but, she is just gorgeous..... Looks like a little doll....

    Sending you strength

djfrro, I am so glad none were there, you have how many days smoke-free?  Too much time invested to lose it.  You can beat that tiny white cylinder, you can stay strong!  Sending cyber hugs, Karen

Was out of town for the holiday and am trying to get ready for my daughter's graduation from college this weekend, so haven't been able to post as much as I would like.... The graduation is out of town and I am trying to set up a brunch/lunch after for people traveling in but it's on a Sunday in a small town.... Trying to find someplace open on Sunday that takes reservations is proving to be a challenge.... It's starting to look like we'll just have to take our chances and hope the place we choose isn't swamped!!

I know I said I would post the updated roll call and I promise I will when I get just a few soare moments!!!

Hope you all are doing well!

Dear Seaside, sounds like a real challenge, there are only so many restaurants in a small town.  Congratulations on your daughter's graduation, those 4 years just fly don't they?  Have you noticed no chatter about the Bills, they've been so bad, at least this past Sunday we actually showed up, hope hubby is doing OK.  Bama's Auburn and the Bills seem to follow the same playbook, and it's not a good one!  Been missing your posts, I knew you were checking in on us though.  hugs, Karen

    Karen,

I must have been posting on the WNY thread while you were posting here....lol! It's not been good with either the Bills or the Sabres..... Which makes for a seriously disgruntled husband!!!

And yep.... even though I may not be posting, I usually am still reading!! Hopefully, things will ease a bit after this weekend...

I'm glad I didn't find any either, I was just upset after spending the day argueing with my son.  I'm not sure I would have actually smoked if I had found one, I'm sure it would make me sick.  the baby in the picture is my granddaughter.

Dear djfrro, a disagreement with your child can certainly lead you to searching the ashtrays, my godmother had a saying that you are only as happy as your unhappiest child, I know I had those moments during my DD adolescence!!!  But the important thing is you lived through it without the cigarette.  I thought the beautiful little girl in the photo was your DD, she is just gorgeous and obviously loves her grandma.  Take care and keep piling up those days, Karen

Work this week has been an absolute nightmare.  Really busy and high stress. Those are the times I would find a way to go out and smoke. Have not even thought about smoking. I had been dreading this time of year but turns out it is not bad at all.  Have not reached for the e-cig much either.  I do plan on keep that around for awhile.  Don't want to have a relapse and go back to the real thing.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Michelle - Thanks for that - I still need the encouragement.  Today was so crazy - at times I did not know if I was coming or going but made it through the day just fine.  I did have my e-cig and when I finally got around to take a few puffs on it - I actually felt a bit dizzy.  Strange though - this one is supposed to be zero nicotine.  HUMMMM!!!!  Oh well!  Whatever works I guess.

Dear Jo, I can remember days like that and the feeling of running around like a chicken with his head chopped off.  You are so strong in your entire outlook about smoking, that's funny that you got a little dizzy after puffing.  It was proably the first deep breath you took since you started work this A.M.  You are an inspiration Jo!!!!!!!!   Karen

ooooohhhh Karen, I LIKE that quote from your Godmother.... I have copied that one down as it really does apply to some things I have had going on here with my son... I would have loved to have met your Aunt Theresa!

    djfrro,

A huge arguement with my son almost did me in around week 6... We had a huge fight and I actually got in my car and drove to the store fully intending to buy a pack.... I parked and had a good cry but, in the end, decided the only one I would be hurting by starting again was ME.... I drove back home without buying them.... Stay Strong and I promise you won't regret it!

    Jo,

Sorry to hear that things with work are so crazy!! Busy can be good but there's busy and then there's holy crap busy!! I know some of the ladies who used straws as their substitute for a cigarette mentioned sucking on the straws to the point of feeling dizzy so, maybe the same was true with your e-cig?

Hope things ease up a bit for you...

    O2B,

Always great to hear from you!! Hope all is well with you and your family!

You would have loved her, she was a liberal thinker before it was fashionable and always had such good advice and common sense when you came to her with a worry.  First Christmas without her.  Hurts,we would sit at the table and just talk, laugh, smoke cigarettes till they didn't taste good.  She was trying to quit a few months before she passed away.  She'd be talking and holding her cigarette near her forehead and I'd have to tell her she'd singed her hair and she'd laugh.  One of a kind, I'm glad we had her for so long. hugs, Karen

Hi Jo, I'm here, cat woke me up.  Are you crazy busy or just busy?  No one has been around, I've been checking but not posting, since I was the last one to post.  Where are you Dara, Karina and djfrro?  Karen   I'll be checking in around 10:00.
