Karen - Thanks so much - it is hard at times.  Thank goodness I only have to put up with the smoke in the house after work and in the evenings.  I really don't know if I could have made it this far if it was a 24/7 thing.

Jo:  Congrats.  I'm not sure I could have made it even one month if I'd been around smokers.  Way to go.

Jo, congrats! And gals, don't beat yourself up for falling off the wagon. We all have done it. December 2 was 18 months for me. I never thought I could do it for that long. The longest quit I ever had was 10 months.

Ok Ladies...new to breast cancer, old to smoking.  Have cut way back 4-5/day but so want to quit.  Going through TCx4...have had one treatment.  I feel guilty everytime I have one but I just cant completely stop.  Been reading all the posts.  How did you all do it?  I stopped all alcoholic use when I was diagnosed.  That was easy...this is not.  HELP!!!

Hi anniebell, welcome to a super support group, we are so glad you have come here.  I quit by cutting way back as you have already done and using an e cig.  When I got down to the last of the pack I had I switched to the e cig at 8mg dosage.  I had it in my hand almost all the time in the beginning, like a security blanket.  When I finished that supply of 8mg, I went done to 4mg, I drank a lot of water, and kept busy and posted everyday to get encouragement and support.  I started chewing strong cinnamon gum as I got closer to the end of the cartridges, when the packet was gone I was using gum instead of the e cig, did occasionally use the e cig with an empty cartridge, no nicotine at all.  These women are so supportive, they are there every step along the way.  You'll be getting welcomes and stories about quitting as everybody checks in.  You can do it, we will help you.  Karen

Welcome, from a fellow ILC gal, Anniebell!

Seems like you are off to a good start by being down to just a few cigarettes a day! There is a lot to be gained from reading back through some of the posts.... Also, VJ's tip book and/or workbook is helpful too!

Welcome aboard!! Look forward to hearing more from you!

Welcome Anniebell.  This is a great bunch of ladies - very supportive even if you do "slip".  I cut back quite a bit and then found a natural stop smoking spray that worked great for me - that and a lot of Crystal Light hard candies.  Because I live with a smoker it has been hard at times for me and like Karen I also use an e-cig with no nicotine.  I have with me all the time and at times is mostly there for my support.  I am at 5 months today and did not think I would make it this far for 2 reasons - one I have already mentioned and also I have a very high stress job in the winter months.  I do tend to stay busy which really helps.  Oh!  I should also mention that I was a 40+ year smoker and I loved it!!!

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks ladies for celebrating with me today.  I see my MO on Monday and it will be wonderful to tell him of my achievement.

Dear Jo, it is just the most special thing to tell your MO.  You get to say it with such pride as a huge accomplishment.  Great job Jo, hugs, Karen

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and words of encouragement!!!  Congrat to all of you on your success. I did send VJ my email address and look forward to her Tip Book.  I also live with a smoker which doesn't help the cause one bit.  I do have an e-cig  but I don't really like it.  Jo, what was the natural spray you mentioned? I would be interested in finding out more about that.  I will keep reading everyday for support.  I suppose I need to pick a quit date here soon. Did any of you continue to smoke during chemo?  I thought I would feel lousy enough that I wouldn't want to but so far I haven't felt too bad.  Thanks again and have a good night.

    Lol Bama,

I logged in specifically to see your new 'do'.... Imagine my surprise when I saw my favorite 'Rascal'.... Lol!!

No matter 'how' it's coming in, I'm sure it feels good that it 'is' coming back in! Ya have to figure that it can't grow straight up forever without eventually co-operating! Hope that soon you're sporting a full head of hair, although, you looked gorgeous even without!

Seaside:  Interesting that I'm the oldest - in terms of quitting.  I'm probably the oldest in terms of age too.  But I'll stick around because I believe in paying forward.  Thinking of you all.  The holidays are such a hard time with all the celebrations.  Hang tough ladies.

robo - Like Karen said, we will be here waiting for you with open arms.  The holidays are a tough time.

Have my 6 month MO appt first thing in the morning.  This is just routine but we know how routine can go.  A bit nervous.  Taking homemade cookies to the staff - they are all so great.  Will let everyone know how it goes.
