    Lol, Karen.... Too funny!

I'm betting the party when you first joined this thread was for Jan508... In fact, it may have been one of our first! I can see where, if you're just popping in for the first time, we may have seemed nuts!

To anyone new to this thread, we're not crazy... Just having a bit of fun!

Seaside, I lurked for about a week, till I was certain it was a sane group.  Where are all our new ladies, hope we didn't scare you away.  Karina, are you out there?  Karen   ps the temp just dropped 10 degrees and the wind is ridiculous, got the candles ready.

That is why I live in deep South Texas.  We are known for our warm winters.

    Karen,

I guess we need to brace ourselves for another shot of cold.... boooooo! We really can't complain too much with the weather this year, but I still will..lol!

    Jo,

94 degrees would be a heat wave here even in August!! On Sunday we started the day with that divided by 10......brrrrrrrr!

I have to agree with Jo.  Even as far "north" as Houston, it was 76 degrees.  And that's why I'm having a hard time contemplating moving anywhere further north for my present & future retirement.

Seaside:  Love the butter comment - but I thought I saw on one of the threads that butter is one of the major food groups.  Sometimes I even order bread to go w/my butter when I'm in a restaurant.  I'll give up most anything - note the cigarettes - but not butter.

Loved the party.  Thanks for inviting us all.

tracie23 - I am in Donna.  Way down close to the Mexican border.  We are an hour north/west (following the Rio Grande River) from Brownsville.  We are between Harlingen and McAllen.

MinusTwo - Maybe we can find it and get it going again.  That would be nice.  If anyone bumps it up, I will add it to my favorites again.

I quit 6 months+ ago i am so glad i did as i am sure i am stronger to be able to fight the BC i was just diagnosed with.

I found that i always thought i led a fairly busy life being a mom and wife and working. Apparently not -i felt like i had hours and hours to fill up that i used to smoke and i was right. So i became the busiest person you ever met for the first few months i got involved in new things i picked some things that i could do indoors and some out.

I do not have much extra money as like many people so i started couponing as my indoor thing i have had a great time doing this and saved money too

I picked swimming and walking as my out of the house things. Swimming is cheap and walking is free and both are great exercise which helps with anxiety and can be done with your children too.

I also tried to change my routine a bit it is true it really does help.

it took me 3 tries to figure out what i needed to do to stay quit

I am 46 years old and smoked for 30+ years and finally can say i have quit.

I quit to live a long and healthy life so i am very determined to beat BC

    Good luck to you all!

Tracie - So proud of you - just take it one step at a time/one day at a time.

Beth - Congrats on quitting 6 months ago.  So sorry you are having to deal with this.  This group of ladies are fantastic and are so very helpful.

Dear Tracie, take it one step at a time, you can do it.  Drink a lot of water to flush your system and try exercising, get those endorphens moving.  So proud of you.  Beth, you are well on your way with some great coping strategies, you go girl.   Karen

HI All, back on the stop smoking trying thing.  Third time.  Anyway, they are offering a class at work, Allan Carr's quit smoking.  I signed up, figured what is the worst that can happen?  I quit smoking?  Does anyone know anything about this method?  Did it work for you?

Yay and welcome, Maureen!! Now that we don't have all the Bills football stress, this is a great time to give it another go!!

As for Allan Carr's class, I was not so lucky as to have one being held near me but, I bought his book, "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" and while I think the 'easy' part in the title might be a stretch, the book helped me TREMENDOUSLY... It takes each and every reason that why we 'think' we smoke and, one by one, tears them down.... It really was a great tool as far as getting me motivated to try and giving me some sense of being prepared... I also re-read parts of it in the early weeks!

I admit a big part of the appeal to the book, is that he insists that you don't quit until the end.... My intent was to read very slooooooooooowly...lol. But by the time I was half way through I was really excited to try!!

Each of the times you tried before gave you some information on what worked and what didn't for you... You will find what works!

    We'll be pulling for you!

Oh... One more thing... While Allan Carr's book was great as far as getting me in the right frame of mind, I found it fell a little short on HOW to do it (the class could be totally different, though)....

For the how to quit part I dusted off an old Quit Smoking packet from my employer that I got years ago and used it.... An excellent resource that was not available when I quit is a book written by one of our BCO friends, VJ. She offers it for free to anyone on this thread who asks... I have read it and it has lots of great tips/info on how to manage all stages of quitting...

Welcome back Maureen.   Best of luck to you and you will have to let us know how this method works for you. I have never heard of it.  May have to check into it for DH.

    Jo,

The book is available on Amazon and you can even use the 'Look Inside' feature to read some of the book to see if it would be useful before you buy it....

Hey Maureen, fancy meeting you here, great meeting you here!!  Looks like the stars are aligning for you with us here, me available ( Maureen is in my WNY group - we meet each month for luncheon and have a very active thread ), the class at work and VJ's book.  Love that "the worst thing that could happen", you are going to be a blast on this thread.  I would give you the e cig but my cat played with it and it is in places unknown to woman.  Are you going to use a quit smoking aid?  Great having you with us.

I think Allan Carr's method is great for exposing all the beliefs we have about smoking and exposing them as lies but there is little in his method as Seaside said -about HOW to quit. I don't know how much his classes are, but if it's a lot of money, I would read his book first before I would spend a lot of money.

Unfortunately, the people I help are the ones that say--I've tried evrything and nothing works--so the only people I know who have used Carr's way--haven't quit. I do believe EVERY method will work for some, NO method works for everyone.

If anyone wants my TIP book, just send my your regular email. If you don't want to give out your email address, it's also for sale as an e-book on Amazon for $2.99, but I will sent it to you for free--just ask (or sign up for my blog--www.StopSmokingStayQuit.blogspot.com)

I have a question for all you non smokers.  If I am still using an e-cig, can I say I am a non smoker?  Just curious.  I feel I am but am I really?
