Happy Easter to all of you amazing ladies.  Hope you all have a fantastic weekend.  Our son, DIL and 3 grandsons are coming in for the weekend.  We don't get to see them very often so it's always great when they come for a visit.  Jo, Have a safe trip and a wonderful time.  Will be looking forward to those details & pics.  Karen, those are all great tips.  I actually found a few quit smoking apps for my phone.  One of them is called "Smoker Reducer Quit Smoking System".  You put in how many cigarettes you allow yourself for the day and the time you go to bed and it spaces them out during that time period.  It will notify you when it's time for the cigarette but you can choose to smoke it or "bank" it (save it for later).  The notifications it gives you are these "Select "Smoke Cig" to start inhaling combusted carcinogenic crap" or "Select "Bank It" to save the cancer stick for later"  Well, when it's put to you that way you kinda think twice about it.  I banked 5 today...Yay Me!!!  The next day it spaces them out a few minutes more and so on in the days to follow.  I guess the object or goal is to get them spaced so far apart that you're smoking less and less each day until you eventually quit.  I also read about chewing on coffee stirrers.  I have a bunch of those leftover from my daughter's baby shower.  That was very understanding of your oncologist to present it to you that way.

"Veteran Butt Kickers", Seaside corrected us, I knew butt vets wasn't right, LOL.  Bama - I forgot to list you as a veteran butt kicker for all the new people, we've got quite the group now.  lisamarie, hoping you had a pleasant day today with your daughter.  We are still having frost advisorys for the night time hours!  It will reach 60 tomorrow, that's a heat wave for this time of year here Bama.  Watched golf yesterday Bama, got to see poor Tiger Woods swear on camera and throw his club, almost as violent as football HA!!!!

Galsal, our forsythia, Japanese weeping cherry trees and tulips bloomed when we had a 80 degree week a couple weeks ago - then we had a frost and they all died.  Don't know if they will bloom again when we really do get springtime weather or if that's it for the season for them. Drat here too.  Congrats on another smoke free day!!

The temperature on South Padre Island was a wonderful 81 degrees with some wind off the gulf.  I did have my capris and flops on.  Perfect weather for a perfect day.

Just checking in real quick to wish you all a Happy and Peaceful Easter....

    Lisamarie,

Don't know if what you are going through is in relation to the holiday but....

A big heads up to you and anyone else for whom this is your first holiday... Any time you go through a 'first' of any kind after quitting can be a little tricky and lead to some pretty crazy cravings....

I quit in January the year I quit and we went to my brother's house for Thanksgiving... Most of my SIL's family smokes and was there.... I got hit with whopper of a craving totally out of the blue... Had

to leave for a bit and took a walk until it passed....

Hugs and strength that, whatever the challenge you face, will soon pass!

    Jo,

Thanks for the pics!! Always love it when sisters are able to get together!!

    Bama,

Gerbera's are some of my favorites... So pretty in the garden and they make great cut flowers in a little vase for inside too.... Pretty as they are in your avatar, they pale in comparison to your pretty smile..... Hope things are going well for you!

    Galsal....

You are doing so wel!!!! I am very proud of you!!

    Karen,

Doesn't matter what we call ourselves.... What matters is that we all choose not to smoke just for today..... although, Butt Kickers I think reflects the fierce women that we are to have taken such a huge, and liberating, step!!... So proud of you and Jo, too! Just amazing how far we all have come!

Ps.... Went to see Titanic in 3-D... in the THEATER yesterday. At 3 1/2 hours long if you include previews, it is something I never would have done had I still smoked... So cool to not be itching to get out to smoke!!!

I was thinking today it might be time to post an updated 'Quit Smoking Roll Call'. Haven't had one since early December! The last one was on page 201, if you want to check it out...

For the new people, the roll call is a list of all on this thread who have quit or are trying to quit and their quit dates.... It can be really handy when trying to remember everyone here plus, it's kinda cool when you see your name there for the first time!

If anyone that has joined us since Early December would like to be included, post or PM me you quit date and I'll get you added to the list!

For anyone who is thinking about quitting and would like to be added as 'Getting a plan in place', we welcome you as well!!!

Trying something new today.  Going to try taking only one Chantix daily and wean down.  Hoping it goes well and get off it.

Galsal, is that something you need to check with your Dr. on, or is that the way they would wean you off too.  Don't want you feeling bad.

Galsal, do not do that. For long term success, follow the directions exactly. The drug works. I used it. Do not play with adjustments.

Galsal - I don't know anything about Chantix but since it is a medication - perhaps it would be best to check with your doctor.  Don't want you to have any adverse effects.

Seaside - Glad to see you back.  Sending hugs.

There are no withdrawal symptoms with Chantix so you don't need to "wean" down. The reason why they tritate up to start with--is to control for stomach problems. Starting at a full dose increases stomach upset substantially.

Chantix only fills half of the nicotinic receptors in the brain--they were designed that way to avoid withdrawal symptoms--unlike nicotine which fills all the nicotinic receptors. Because it only fills half of the receptors--they can be some nicotine withdrawal symptoms--which is why the Mayo clinic now combines chantix wtih nicotine replacement products. The lastest Mayo guidelines for medications are all for combos now--one long lasting med (chantix, zyban or The Patch) and one short term med used as needed for break through cravings (gum, lozenge, spray, inhaler).

Wishing everyone a most joyous Easter. VJ

Don't quit smoking just for the BC...smoking causes lots of other things.  I am 54 , just dx with BC ... At 41 , I was dx with COPD from smoking.  After being a  26 yr heavy smoker, that DX stopped me in my tracxks.  Quit cold turkey and yes, it was the hardest thing I ever did , but do-able.  I couldnt bear being leashed up to oxygen , which is where copd eventually leads to.

I have been dodging surgeries and oxygen for yrs now and I feel like the train just may be stopping now that I have BC.  COPD does not ' mix well' with anesthethia or surgeries.

Honestly ?  I am more concerned with whats left of my lung tissue right now than my breast tissue!

If I can quit , ANYONE can.,...  I was a hard core heavy smoker.  If you find yourself saying ' try'  ( " I'm going to TRY to quit)  you're not serious enough.  X that word out of your vocab.

They have patches and gum now, buy some mints, suck on straws, keep your hands busy, but dont get ' caught;' like I did ( with COPD).  We are not immune to other serious disease just because we have one.

Please quit smoking ...  I hope you will never know what you may have dodged.

    Blessings!
