All went well today. Thanks for the pocket party - everyone was so well behaved.

Signed the consent forms, had before pictures taken of the boobs and was given the orders to take to the hospital on Friday for preadmission.  I am scheduled for next Wed at 8:30.  This PS is unique in that he actually sees you at your appointed time.  You don't have to sit and wait for hours.  If he is as prompt in the OR as he is in the office, I will be done before lunch.  Will have to stay for a 23 hour observation and should be home on Thurs.  Will have one drain for sure maybe two.  Will not be able to shower until the drains are out - GRRR!!!.  No bra for a month. I am so psyched about this.  Can't wait to see my new boob.  Sure glad I quit smoking almost 9 months ago.  Otherwise, I would not have been able to get this done.

Yeah Jo, so glad everything went well, sounds like you have found a good PS, shall we stsrt the countdown now?  I am so glad to hear you so excited, we will have to fit in yur pocket again, oh oh no pockets in those pretty hospital gowns.  We will have to wait quietly in your room, will quietly say HOORAY when you get back from surgery with your new boob.  I am on the fence about going for reconstruction, will listen carefully for how it goes for you.  hugs, Karen

Thanks for all the welcomes.. Day three on Chantix, my doctor and the pharmisist both told me to wait till day eight before I stopped smoking. I am trying to figure out what I am goinng to do "instead"  I am addicted to sudoku, so I figure I'll do them, read, and suck on mints (I am a menthol smoker). I am commited to this and now that so many people know about it, I feel like I can do this. In the past I always kept it to myself and DH, I never went public.  I will keep you all updated. Again, Thanks for all the kind words.

    Barbara

babshrink, you might want to add any of the "minty" gums as it also satisfies the oral fixation.  I still keep several flavors of gum around, including bubble gum and blowing bubbles.  I also cut straws into cigarette size and used those to chew on, someone else used swizzle sticks.  I am now 4 days short of 15 mos.  I smoked for over 30 years and was a heavy stress smoker, I had always said the only way I could quit was have my jaw wired shut, but when you are determined it is hard but you can and will succeed.  Galsal is using a half dosage of Chantix and is doing really well using the slogan Just For Today I Will Not Smoke.

    Welcome babsbrink!!

When I was getting ready to quit I made myself go outside to smoke and while I was smoking I did nothing else... When I quit I was stunned at how much extra time I had... Did a bunch of stuff to keep busy at first... Cleaning, exercising, etc... BUT also made time to do something enjoyable wirh some of time as well... After all what good is ll this 'found time' if you spend all of it doing stuff you don't enjoy... I banked both money saved and time saved and used a little of each as my reward system!

The ladies here are all very supportive! Post when you need to!

    Galsal,

Sorry that PS re-scheduled again! I don't think they understand how much these appointments mean to us... Hopefully the saying 'Good things come to all who wait' is especially true for you!

    Galsal, Jo and Lisamarie,

You all are getting ready to claim a really HUGE benefit to quitting smoking... The ability to have the reconstruction that YOU have chosen without your choices being limited by which surgeries the PS will do if you smoke!! So happy for all of you!!

PS.., I was happy with being able to see Titanic in the theater... lol.... Your reconstructions are a waaaaay better reward!

Babsbrink:  I started walking every time I wanted to smoke.  Kept my body busy & kept off the weight I would have gained by sitting around.  To be sure, I took a large number of walks every day.  And this was July in Houston at 98 degrees & 99% humidity.

Jo:  The drains are worth it.  Wish I'd let mine stay longer after exchange.  Still my doc let me take mini-showers as long as I wrapped around my entire chest with Glad Wrap Press & Seal.  I pinned the drain bulbs to a string around my neck.  Weird looking since I had a box of Glad Wrap with Christmas decorations, but worth it to shower.

Jo....exciting for you!  Keep us posted.  Lisamarie, you are just a lil' mexican jumping bean in those pockets aren't you.  teehee

Walking does help and since need to do that too for the LE I get a double benefit.

It's FRIDAY and getting a massage after work for MLD.  nice!

TGIF everyone.  I have read many posts about the LD flap surgery, the TEs and exchange surgery.  In that regard I consider myself a bit luck in that all I am having is the flap surgery - no implants - so no TEs, fills or exchange surgery.  Once I am finished with this surgery that is it for me.

Jo, you must be so excited, glad you don't have to put up with fills, T E's and such, again we are all going to the hospital with you and will wait quietly, well as quiet as we can be, for you to return from surgery.  I'm sure the hospital will not even know we are there, HA, if we could really go - we would make a ruckus when you return!!  Hi lisamarie, so good to see you posting and getting to know all of us, you are doing a fantastic job at being a non-smoker!!!!!!!!!!!! hugs, Karen

I am fast approaching another milestone in this journey to stay smoke free.  It will be 9 months on Sunday.  I know some of you aren't around on with weekends so I wanted to share that now.  I still can't believe it after 40 years.

Karen - This is the best cheering section.

lisamarie - Don't be too hard on yourself with the dreams.  Just remember it was just that - a dream.  You didn't really do it.  Our minds can play tricks on us from time to time.

Maria,  That can happen and you are right - don't beat yourself up over this.  Just pick yourself up and start over. It did happen to me a couple of times and I just called them little hiccups!!  You are doing great.

Just for today I will not smoke!!

Dear Maria, most smokers try and try again to quit, like Jo said this is a hiccup, a speed bump, and you're getting right back on the non-smoking train.  You can do it, just for today you will not smoke.  Stay Strong, going away on vacation with a person that you have a history of talking and smoking is a very strong trigger.  I used to chew gum and my e cig like crazy when I was in that same position, I did slip once, it was when liquor was involved also.  That just lowered my inhibitions and I slipped and fell, I did cut WAY back on using liquor, since I knew it had happened once.  hugs and strength to you, Karen
