Galsal, for every single moment you don't smoke, it gets easier. DON'T do it! The first few weeks are tough. I rarely crave them anymore and in fact I can go days and days without a single thought of smoking. I still use the e-cig to get me over the hump in my day, but since it is vapor, I am soooo thrilled that I am off tobacco. It tastes like a cig for those times I need to have that or use my hands. I am using it less and less though.
Yup, Beckers, it has been 5 months. My last cigarette was on April 19th and so my first "quit day" was April 20th. I did not want to go through rads as a smoker and I began rads on April 22nd so I set my date for Saturday the 20th and I never looked back and I am LOVING being smoke free. My car smells good, my clothes, my hair...love it!

I'm now 5 weeks smoke-free. Now, there are some words I never thought I'd type! LOL!
It's not nearly as hard as other times I've tried, mostly because I spent two weeks of that 5 in hospital and still only leave the apartment to go to doctor's appointments. My biggest fear is what is going to happen when I'm back out in the real world!

Hi There: I'm embarassed to even say I'm still smoking and going thru chemo but I am attempting to quit on Weds. Wish me luck, does anyone have any tricks they used or words of advice
Thanks, Rayna
Congrats to eveyone who has quit, I will be proud if I make i a day.0 -
Thank you -2 and beckers! I am si proud of myself....I NEVER thought I could do it!
Good for you lehela....I pray for your strength to bat those urges away with your mental hands just like you would a pesty fly!
raynaj....I really didn't want to quit....really didn't think I could quit. To be honest I quit for the paople I love...I couldn't do it for myself. When I started taking chantix I didn't think it would work, but it did after a little of a week and then I started using an ecig during times when I had strong urges. I didn't take chantix for long either...my best friend quit this way too. Give a try....I pray you find a way that works for you!

Iahela, I think if you mean it you will want to try your hardest to stay smoke free. That's the difference for me I believe. I wish you the best on staying quit when you get back to life. Congrats on 5 weeks! That's awesome!!!
Rayna, the patch and e cig helped me a lot!!!! Also, my PS wouldn't do surgery and even nicotine tested me. Ha! Good luck on wed...first few days can be the hardest. Stay close.0 -
I quit for a year a couple years ago and I loved being a non-smoker, all it took was a couple puffs and I was a smoker again. Have to remember that this time, I will use the nicorette gum to help me. I get chemo tomorrow and they taste nasty at the beginning of the 3 weeks so that might help. I read the post at the top about chemo only being 40% effective when smoking, I'm so pissed no one told me this. If I put myself thru feeling shitty on chemo for a month and a half and it didn't work I'll be extremely angery
Everyone keep up the good work or good luck if youre quitting.

Rayna, I pray I NEVER let my guard down and believe the lies that pop in my head telling me I can take 1 hit or just smoke 1. I think we all know better. Tomorrow is the quit day! I too was surprised when I read that above about chemo and smoking. Yikes! Good luck!!!

Raynaj - thinking of you on the beginning of your journey. How about we revive - "just for today I won't smoke".
Lovewins - so proud of you. Hoping your chemo doesn't present too many SEs.
Beckers - oh yes - just one hit!!! Nope - I'm an addict. I CAN'T have just one cigarette - or even just one puff - or I'll be right back where I started. Six years down the road of smoke free I have to admit I am still a smoker & will always be a smoker. I am just a smoker who doesn't indulge. Guess that makes me a non-smoking smoker. Whew, I think the chemo brain has taken over.

HI its me and unfortunately I didn't quit today, I had a meeting with my onco yesterday and they decided they were changing my chemo to the "Red Devil" and it freaked me out, new drug, new side effects, so I decided I would postpone my quit date by a day because I was going to be too stressed out beginning this new treatment. So tomorrow will be my day. Sorry for disappointed anyone. I know there will always be upcoming events that will make us say "On, I can't quit yet, but I felt this one qualified"
Thanks for the support
Love, Rayna0 -
(((Raynaj)))...sorry you had upsetting news today...a person can only do the best they can do. I am just over 2 weeks clean myself. I know how hard it is to quit...no one could ever understand unless they smoked. Funny thing is when I gave myself a break and was gentle with myself it made it a little easier. I hope things get easier for you.

Rayna, why the red devil? You are grade 1 and no nodes. Is it because tumor 2cm? I'm sorry. Will smoking interfere with red devil? Try e cig. It gives you something to smoke and that does help.

Haha minus two! A non smoking smoker who used to smoke but now does not just for today!!!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. They switched me because with the T/C I kept having allergic reactions and my throat closed up on me 3 times in 2 treatments. I live in Canada I'll have to see if we have that E Cig here. I have used the Nicorette Gum and think that will help. Haven't rescheduled my quit date yet. How weak am I, I have damn cancer and can't even quit how pathetic. I'll post when I've made a day. I have to go get a pile of prescriptions tomorrow and I'll see if I can get the E Cig. Thanks for the tip.
Love, Rayna.
Love wins, way to go with the two weeks that's fantastic. I can't wait until I can post that too!!0 -
Rayna, don't be too hard on yourself. A lot of us didn't quit right away. It's been likened to heroine addiction. We are here for you.

Rayna...I used chantix and ecig to quit...honestly I don't think I could have without them. Please don't be so hard on yourself...do they have chantix there?

Lovewins: we have Champix here and no E Cig i think that would work really good but unfortunately none here. Feeling like shit, dont know at times like this if i can finish this chemo, its killing me. I have no idea how anyone worked thru this. Sorry needed to rant, familiy is great but they dont understand.

Rayna, maybe you can order online. PM April who is on this thread. I know she has one. I am sorry you are struggling with chemo. My best friend was on red devil and she said she would take sleeping pills and sleep most of the first week. It would be hard to work through. Hang in there!!!

Hi Rayna...I have had a couple of really rotton days too. feel stir crazy! This is hard in a way I haven't learned to cope with yet. I miss work and my co-workers...I miss smoking to releive stress. I was trying to eat healthy but gave up on that cuz it was all too much. I really believe the ecig helps I ordered mine online...it's called greensmoke. (((((Rayna))))) Hope you feel better soon.

Lovewins: we sound like we are in similar situations, I'm so exhausted i could cry but I'm too exhausted to cry. I unlike you am still smoking, I've been rationalizing that I cant quit while I'm going thru so much stress already. I think I will order on of those online, thats a great idea. I wish we could be together and help eachother through this. You can P.M. Me anytime, we can be exhausted buddies.
Love, Rayna0 -

Thank you Lovewins, i will order now

Stay strong ladies! Quitting is the BEST thing I have ever done. Braids, if you try the wellbutrin, make sure to note any side effects and let your doc know. It is a drug used for depression as well as quitting smoking, but sometimes it has the opposite effect. For me, it was working well, but I developed a rash and had to stop. The e-cig along with behavior modification and patch and gum worked. Now still smoke free 5 months. GL!
