Sorry Judi - I've been spending several hours a day listening/talking with my BFF who's husband just died two weeks ago. Makes my mood weird.

Last night was our Civic Club volunteer dinner for neighbors who help make the subdivision run. The only restaurant close to us with a private room is Olive Garden, so that's where we go now. I started these over 10 years ago because I think everyone should be thanked. We had 22 people and presented some fun surprise awards.

Ordered the most comfortable LE compression bra I've ever seen from WearEase in Idaho. It came yesterday morning and once I tried it on I haven't taken it off. I sure hope the PT lady will tell me that this garment provides the kind of compression I need so I can order two more.

Talked to a friend who had BMX 1-1/2 months ago and was only able to stop smoking 2 days before surgery. She had serious dead skin & black incisions & none of the wounds were healing. They had go back to surgery 2 weeks ago to cut out the necrosis. They actually had to take out one TE before radiation since the skin is so compromised & leave the other one with no fills for now. She's managing with an e-smoke w/no nicotine, but of course her DH still smokes - in the house no less - and her mother is coming to visit Friday for two weeks and she also smokes. It's so hard to hold firm when everyone around you is smoking.

LisaMarie - how's the new job coming? I know you're probably too busy &/or tired to write.

Beckers - still hoping to see a picture of that new grandbaby. Hoping you're doing OK.

Celebrating Friday by going to play dominoes this afternoon. Anybody remember when we used to play cards & each corner of the card table had a personal ash tray? COLD here ladies. 36 degrees last night & that's really early for Houston. Hope everyone is OK & enjoying a smoke free day. Or thinking ahead towards one.

Wow MinusTwo, you have been busy. I'm glad your BFF has a friend like you .... one in a million. I feel for your other friend .... two smokers in the mix .... boy you have to be strong to be around that. Love your new bra .... hope it works out for you. Yes, I remember the ashtrays .... I also remember when I smoked in my house .... never thought it smelt. Wasn't until I got older that I thought it smelt after all my ex-smoker friends told me. Funny, when they smoked it was never an issue. Yes, it is cold here. Barrie, Ontario which is 30 minutes east of me got whammed with a snow storm. I can't believe it. Closer to home then I would like! But if you found 36 F cold, come to Ontario to see what cold is! Ha, ha .... you couldn't stand it!

Good morning April .... love the pic. Isn't it so true. I was just saying the other day that man are like babies when they get sick. My dh is being treated for precancerous cell on his face. Face looks like shit ...... severe, severe, severe acne look. Well, you thought the whole world is falling apart. But with my bc, he tells me to shut up because mine was just a minor lick or, better yet, ignores the topic all together. Men!

April - thanks for the cartoon. So true.

Judi - is your DH doing Effudex or the "blue light" therapy? I did Effudex a few years ago & looked like I had leprosy. It was sure a good way to identify & freeze a bunch of actinic keratoses all at the same time.

Hi MinusTwo! No dh was prescribed Imiquimod 3.75%. Your right, it does look like leprosy. He was in so much pain, and he said that he may not have gotten AK at all. He also said he may have opened up Pandora's box. I don't know anything about it. He was on it for 2 weeks then 2 weeks off, then another 2 weeks. It is starting to clear up but I don't think he will take it again. Did you have to take it the same way he is and did you have any issues with it?

I had to apply Effudex for two weeks then went in and the doc froze all the places that became prominent due to the meds. I remember pain in addition to not being able to go out anywhere. Looked up your DH's RX and it sounds like it actually destroys the AK. Interesting - an immune response modifier. Seems like I know someone who used that under the brand name of Aldara. I'll have to ask my derm doc when I see her this month.

Can one of you come and clean my house? Anyone? Judi? Lisamarie? Anyone? Since I started the AI, I can't get enough energy or pain free time to do a really GOOD cleaning. Thank goodness my hubby helps me or we would be living in squalor...well, ok, an exaggeration, but the dust bunnies were pretty serious when I tackled the spare room the other day..LOL

Ok at work so gotta run as usual.

    WTG Lisamarie!

    Bosum, where art thou?

    Feel better Minus

    Judi, stay warm!

Oh Bosum .... what can one say. You are feeling helpless .... yes, I have wrinkles but that is 40+ years of smoking plus menopause. Didn't have chemo so I can't weigh in on this. You know, all of us would have smoked that "found" pack so don't stress about this. I think maybe you are trying to measure up to us ... please don't ..... you are unique and what works for some doesn't work for a lot of others. Remember, you are with us whether you like it or not. We are all sisters even though I live in a entirely different country .... love you and got your back. SE's of chemo are hell so just bare with it ... you will be healthy but you have to go through many steps to get there. Don't despair!

Hello everyone, Just letting you know that tomorrow is 'The Great American Smokeout Day' organised by the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society challenges you to not smoke for the entire day and use the day to set a quit date and anticipate and plan for the challenges of quitting,

Anyone from here participating? We would love to hear how you get on!

Oh Bosom, I also cannot chime in about chemo I did not have it . I have many wrinkles . the lady I work with now is 53 , I asked her the other day how old she was . I am 45 gonna be 46 next month .. I said wow you look so much younger . she has never smoked in her life .. my wrinkles make me look older . But I keep praying that with not smoking I will look better maybe ... As judi says we here are all sisters ... and we stick together . I was doing same and def would have smoked that pack if I found in my jacket too...I have been having a bad craving to smoke once a day and I am not giving in... the time will come and you will get it .. dont stress over it .. we are all different ...I care about you .. xoxoxoxo just hang in there ... and dont be a stranger .. we are here for you no matter what ....

Ok gotta shower and get to work .... Today is also baby day .. my grandson will be born today ... have a great day ladies xoxoxox

Just for today I will not smoke

LisaMarie - great reply to Bosum. Yes - we understand - always!!

Beckers - hope you are OK & we would love to hear from you.

I have a friend who is 84 and looks 64. Of course she never smoked. But it's sure hard to go out with her and have people talk about how much younger she is than me - NOT, since she's 14 years older. in addition to smoking for 45 years, I spent my youth lying covered in baby oil soaking up rays, and I've always lived in "sun" states and spent as much time outside as possible. No one talked about sunscreen and there was no such thing as SPF and we sure didn't wear hats. Oh well.

Mods - good note. Interesting memories since it used to piss me off every year when it came around. Ladies - any of you quit on the national Smokeout Day? Good luck if tomorrow is your target day.

A sad post. My son's father-in-law just passed away today (around 3am) and it was from COPD. He was on oxygen 24-7 for the last few years and he was 64 years old. He only smoked for 20 years and he quit in the mid 1980's but the damage was already done. Just wanted to put this out there for those who are on the fence. Today is American Cancer Society great American Smoke Out day.

EDIT: I also know how hard this really is. I always ignored this day each year but today it is my 19 month anniversary as a non-smoker. It is the hardest thing I have ever done. Please know I support you all no matter what! xo

Bosum Blues - I was wondering who told you that you would have to repay $7000 in subsidies for ACA? As I am self employed, I estimated my income and I really won't know until my taxes are done next year what my true income will be for 2014. So I had looked into what ramifications would be if I over or under estimated my income. From what I understand if you over estimate and would not qualify for a subsidy but have to go on medicaid - there are limitations on what you have to repay:

    Income RangeRepayment Cap
    < 200% FPL$600 ($300 individual)
    200% to 300% FPL$1,500 ($750 individual)
    300% to 400% FPL$2,500 ($1,250 individual)

I hope this is right. I have a large loss carryover from a previous year which will reduce my income to 0 and I'm not sure if they will use that or not. Just keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck.

MinusTwo ... loved the baby oil tan but now absolutely hate the side effects. Who knew .... definitely not the "experts". Bosum .... keep trying .... don't be defeated from the start. We all started out that way but now we know that you can't. Look forward, not back!

Morning ladies. I'm sitting here dithering about going to my niece's baby shower this morning. The weather is supposed to break down by 1pm w/90% chance of thunderstorms, street flooding, possible hail, tornadoes, etc. The party is an hour each way from my home - assuming no traffic or road work. I'm getting to be such a wienie but I just don't want to be out in this kind of weather that far from home. Then again, I'll feel so silly if the weatherman is wrong. Have to decide in the next 15 minutes.

Wouldn't a smoke be calming? NOT. Hope everyone made it through the National Smoke out day with resolve still in tact. Just for today I will not smoke.

MinusTwo .... I guess you can call me a weenie because I doubt I would go. I'm starting to think twice before I travel. Hard to resist a smoke, even harder is watching what I eat ..... I actually go down all the aisles just to look at food. Really! If you went to the shower, hope it was a good one!
