MinusTwo - glad to hear your tests went well. I'm due for one when I'm back from South Africa and hopefully I won't have catch more crap (no pun intended). Yes, my snow was a lot, a lot but LisaMarie, maybe not what you experienced in the past month. Needed a snowploughing service to dig out. Oh well, that's what happens when your live in the North. BTW, LisaMarie, you go girl ..... you are doing fantastic so keep it up. After a while, you think of smoking but then it goes away as fast as you think of it. Just today I saw an elderly person go out and light up, and to be truthful, I thought I'm glad it's not me. So, there are lots of benefits to reap from all of this.

You are sure right about that Judi. I visited my son in VA one Thanksgiving when he was still back East in an apt. Standing outside the front door in the "breezeways" (and I mean wind tunnels) was not fun. I can't imagine popping out for a quick smoke when it's freezing and there's snow everywhere.

MinusTwo, I knew you would know the feeling even though you live in the warmth. Funny, this damm computer does auto spell check - I typed warmth and it changed it to earth. WTH? Anyways, LisaMarie you deserve this so much. You have been through so much but you are one tough cookie .... if you keep looking up it's bound to work for you which it did. I am so happy for you and I'm clapping away .... can you hear the thunder. LisaMarie, you are in the stands with us .... you now know what it's like on the outside looking in ..... don't kid yourself, it is a struggle for all of us but I think you realize this. Just today I went to my neighbour's and she smokes in the garage. I knocked on her door and stood there sniffing it all in .... she couldn't figure out what I was doing. Then poof, it was gone until I read your post. I don't know about our white Christmas anymore ... warming up so it's a crap shoot. But it will be nice just to be off and being with family and friends. Went out today with dh to find material to reupholster our bar stools .... found one that is similar. After 8 years in this house, things are starting to fall apart. Next we have to go looking for a new microwave .... ours doesn't rotate and it's cheaper to replace then fix. Computer is acting up too so I'm saying good night to all.

LisaMarie - GREAT news on three fronts. Hooray for winning the unemployment case. I hope that will take some pressure off you. Fantastic that your thyroid showed no nodes. And last but certainly not least - you've made it a long way past "just one more day". You have good reason to crow!!! Have fun w/the gingerbread house & the cookies.

Judi - It's hard for me to accept that it's cheaper to replace things now than to fix them - but I know it's true. So sad that we aren't training any technicians any more. Glad you're going to reupholster your bar stools. I've got a chair I'm going to get done in the new year.

MinusTwo, I hear you about not fixing things. But, we don't train the youth for this which makes it hard. I love the microwave and it works just doesn't rotate. But I'm going to check it out. Ladies, have a nice, lazy Sunday! April485 and LisaMarie, are you ready for X-mas with your new grandkids?

Hi MinusTwo ... I'm sure that everyone is rushing to get ready for the holidays. Vacuuming myself tonight and then out early to get stuff that I need food wise. I'm going to a friend's so I don't have to worry about all the trimmings but need to bring apps for my brother's on Christmas eve and then on Christmas Day. Cheese does wonders doesn't it. What are you up to. Ladies, what are you all up to! My dh is out for the evening so I vacuuming and playing Rod Stewart .... couldn't get better then that - I love Rod Stewart. Mellow music which I haven't listen to in a while. I play Christmas music in the car but I think I'm Christmas music out. Rod is singing
"Rainy Night in Georgia" - beautiful!

OK Lisa Marie - starting to get worried!!!

Judi - perfect house cleaning music. I wonder if that would get me inspired to vacuum? Probably not since no one will be coming here. I'm going out to a friends tonight for drinkies & snacks tonight and then to my niece's house out of town for Christmas.

VJ - thinking about you last night. How is the book 'production' coming?

Hi all! Had a real eye opener tonight. Went to purchase some lotto tickets at the local grocery store. A older women was ahead of me and bought a carton of cigarettes which took a few minutes to figure out as she wanted to buy 2 cartons. In Ontario, a carton can be 10 small packs (20 cigarettes) or 8 large packs (25 cigarettes) to a tune of $108.00 a carton. I truly was flabbergasted. I thought to myself "then truly there was a reason I got cancer because I would still be smoking". Seaside is so right MinusTwo about all the money she has saved .... maybe you have mentioned this too. So I thought about it after I left the store and decided I would have been maybe "a rich old broad". Ha, ha!

Yes Judi - I was behind a guy the other day who bought 1 pack - $6.50 - so they're not quite as expensive here - $65.00 for a carton of 10 but I nearly fell on the floor. Maybe he was buying some off brand stuff but still... I heard it cost $10/pack in NYC and that was over a year ago.

Yes, I've talked about how much I've enjoyed the money I paid myself instead of the cigarette manufacturers. It's a bundle of change even if you're only smoking a pack a day, say from $2500 to $4000 per year. And lets be honest - when I was drinking or playing cards or talking on the phone or at the ball game or fishing or.... I often smoked more than 1 pack per day. My first husband quit cold turkey when the cost of a pack went up to $0.25. That was in the late 60's.

JUST FOR TODAY I will not smoke - and I will buy myself something nice from Santa.

Oh MinusTwo, ain't that the truth. That's when I started smoking - 25 cents a pack. Can you image how the tobacco companies have the nerve to raise the prices to be unbelievable. I should have stopped years ago but thought I was cool then just couldn't quit or I didn't want to. Lord know I tried but I guess it just wasn't in me. Oh the trips, clothes or whatever we could have done. Yes you are right about the amount we smoked .... if I was going to a party, I made sure I had 3 large packs in my purse. That's why I've carried such a large purse around. Ain't because there was money in it!

I'm headed to bed early in case the reindeer are looking for my house!!! Tomorrow I'll drive 3+ hours to my niece's house for a couple of days. They won't eat until 5pm so there's no great rush to set my clock for the morning. Feels strange not getting early to get a turkey in the oven.

Hope everyone has a peaceful & joyous holiday.

Staying home and having Chinese food .... done with all the running around. Will be shopping and getting ready for South Africa .... here we come! What's everyone doing for New Year's?????

Judi - funny I was just dreaming about Japanese food this morning. My favorite local placed closed so I'll have to search further. Great minds. My NY Eve will be quiet until midnight. It's tradition in Texas to shoot off fireworks at midnight, so even if you go to sleep early you're awake again.

When do you go to South Africa? Any specific travel adventures planned? My son was there in the late 90's and had a wonderful time. His pictures from the Cape were spectacular.

Oh MinusTwo .... yes great minds think alike or is it our age. My sister told me about Texans New Year's even tradition. Love it. I leave for South Africa on January 13th .... was out today and bought some clothes that are light (all Under Armour which I can pack tightly and no wrinkles). We will be going to Keuger National Park after our 2nd day for 3 days, off to the coast for 3 days, home to Joburg, then flying to Cape Town, home to Joburg, then off to Botswana. It will be an amazing trip and so far not very costly which I love. I'm hoping that my trip will be like your son's and NO MALARIA .... I FLIPPIN SCARED OF IT! Start my anti-diarrhea meds on New Year's eve but I need it since we are all immuocompromised. I'm tired but hopefully it will be relaxing!
