I am having a pity party of my own today for some reason.  I just yelled at my close friend.

Meanwhile, before I have a complete breakdown - whippetmom, I'd really appreciate it if you'd look at the pics I posted in the picture forum yesterday, and let me know what you think of the implants my doctor and I have chosen.

Sorry if I'm being a pushy pain in the neck and thanks if you can do it.

Laura - aren't boys just the best?  Even though I would have loved girls, I'm glad God gave me these precious testosterone-laden creatures!  btw....my older son (21) came in the other day while I was checking this site.  He said, "So, how's everybody on Breastbook?"  Facebook....Breastbook....What a hoot!!  I've been so happy that he chose to spend this summer with us instead of staying at college.  I can't believe he'll be a senior - and my baby a senior in high school!

I must say, when I was at Costco earlier this week, I checked to make sure there wasn't a hoodia exhibit!!

Laura - Yippee for normal You deserve it, girl!!  Besides, that combo sounds yummy!

Sandy - sorry about your crummy day @ work.  This is definitely the place to help you feel better!  Glad your mammo was good, but what's with the '4mm something?"

Anyone - I tried to post pics tonight on the pic form, but apparently when I resized them, I did it in such a way that they changed to TIFF files instead of jpeg, an unacceptable medium for posting.  I am about as dumb as a rock when it comes to computers, so any advice on resizing them would be great.  If it matters, I use a mac. Thanks.

Peg - Thanks for the pep talk.  I think I'll be okay, in that I truly do trust my ps.  I just figured that extra bit - which when I really think about it would probably have been less than 50cc anyway - would have been my "insurance policy."  I think he's worried about my skin integrity and my pecs not being overly stressed, and I know those are not issues to disregard.  I'm finally feeling better now that I've vented to you all.

Thank you everyone for being there ....and all the great and some funny things that were said.....but I am still laughing about the "Breastbook" comment......going to go grab a glass of wine myself and then go to bed. This has turned into quite a day......@ 5:30 a friend of over 20 years called me crying as she had just been fired from her job.....so I dropped everything and went to comfort her, and let her cry on my shoulder......just got home and checked in on my girls and to remind myself to quit feeling sorry for myself......as there is always someone who has worse problems and we need to be there for those friends and family that have blessed our lives with their presence......God Bless and goodnight

"course... no real pressure... I did not "pressure" Jean to use her idea of " exchange city" and start a thread... nor did I "pressure" Tracey to start a Ta Ta Sisterhood thread.... NOPE.. not me... they chose this on their own.. so I do not wanna " pressure" anyone to consider The BREASTBOOK idea... NOPE.. not me... I am just sayin'........ it is a great name.. and in good business.... a good name.. TAKES off...................... ~wink~

Thank you Estepp.  I'm having a hard time having nothing to do with the BC.  Here's my feeling sorry for myself, not BC related sob story -

My dog, Kenya, a 2 year old Great Dane (my avatar pic, duh) developed hind leg weakness and was collapsing on her hind legs, so we had an MRI and she had severe compression in her spinal cord, causing the leg weakness.  She had spinal surgery 3 weeks ago, and she still can't walk.  She was completely paralyzed after the surgery.  Much much worse than before.  She is making very slow progress, she can now move her hind legs a bit, but can't walk or support her weight on them.  She can move her front legs a teensy bit sometimes.  She can move her head and neck.  My poor sweet dog is living everyone's nightmare - she is awake and alert, knows what is going on, and cannot move.  It is horrible and the most heartbreaking thing ever.  They say to give it time, and as long as she continues to improve, don't give up, so that's what I'm doing but it is awful.

I love that dog.  She got me through all of my breast cancer stuff.  So now I have to get her through her trauma and surgery.  She is only 2 years old.  2.

She's at the vet and has been there for 3 weeks now.  She hasn't slept at home for 3 weeks.  I miss her.

Sorry for the totally off-topic post but that's my pity party.

Laura---Yay, you found me! I will PM tomorrow, you said some really though provoking things.

Yes, (((((Kenya)))) she is beautiful and I hope she heals soon.  I could not have gotten through the last 5 months without my lab puppy, Easy (which she has not been of late), she makes me smile when I don't want to, and gets me up and going when I think I don't have the energy.  Tomorrow we will do a 5 mile walk through Portland's beautiful Forest Park.  Our dogs, kids, family, etc. are not off topic, at least not to me, they are all part of the recipe of our lives.

Jan and Laura--Thanks for the thoughts about Lindsey--I hope the world will treat him well, and that he will be an honorable man.  I've always told the boys, "when in doubt do the right thing, even when nobody is watching." I hope they will be happy, loving, and great husbands.

Elaine--so glad to hear from you, I hope each day gets better.

Yes, raising boys is a blast.  Their perspectives are so funny. I've loved every minute of it, even the inexplicable moments!

Once again way past my bed time--I'm usually 8PM to about 5AM.

    Yawn. sleep well lovely ladies...

    Hugs,

    Karen

Sweet ((((((Kenya)))))) - oh how dear our animals are to us, such precious souls.  If she is just weeks out of surgery, it may be too soon to suggest - but just FYI - I've seen dogs improve with acupuncture, chiropractic work, glucosamine chondroitin - keep alternative measures in mind for the future.  In the meantime, I'm sure she feels your love.

Laura - "Normalcy" - love it.  That sounds like my kind of "normal".  You' and your moment make me smile.  Very inspiring.

Val, to resize and post on the picture forum on a mac.   Go to the picture resize thread that Sandy put on the picture forum.  Follow those directions and then Save to computer.  The photos will go to your download file.  When you're ready to post the pics, just pull then out of the download file.  In one of the screens in the resize site, it will ask you what format you want to save in.  It's on the bottom of the page.  Just make sure it says jpeg.

Hope everyone is feeling better after a good pity party.  No matter how strong we need to be or try to be, a good pity party is necessary every now and then!

LIfegoeson, I hope Kenya is getting better every day.  She will stay strong and fight for you.  I'm glad you are by her side to give her that strength.

Have a pain free, worry free week end, everyone.

I am crying just reading about dogs and boys and pity parties.  My one and only child, a boy, is spending the fall semester in Australia.  When I woke this morning(his Saturday evening) there was an email saying he was listening to Joni(Mitchell) and thinking of me.  I love that boy and he and I have shared music and life and so many wonderful times together.  Love and hugs to all who are hurting and rejoicing.

Oh - I love the idea of "Breastbook"Kiss

Laura - Fabulous idea!  That's exactly what we need to do - a thread for rejoicing once this stuff is behind us.  You go right ahead and start that thread - you're way ahead of me in this recon journey. So glad I shared my son's funny comment - maybe he has a future in advertising after all!!

Dawn - Are you ready for Monday?  So excited for you!

Firni - thanks for the tip on the pics.  I'll work on them next time the house is empty.....

ladies if you could give me some advise on what I should share with a gal that needs a mastectomy

she had a lumpectomy and radiation before

she wants immediate reconstruction but would like not to have a flap surgery

I had told her it might depend on her skin if it would stretch with a te and later a implant

I'm hoping to find that u tube video that shows how silicone implants have changed

the one where they cut it in 1/2 and it sort of stays together

if someone knows where that's at please post or I will look for it later

I'm going to share the thread about how to prepare for surgery

the one that gives helpful hints

plus if I can get back in the pix forum I wanted to share my pix to show her what things might look like right after surgery and what the drain bulbs look like.

for gals like Mona that was able to put a implant in right away do you need to be bigger to do that

I didn't know if this would be a option

I never heard of that until after my surgery

well I have to do a few things and will look back later

Complete Submuscular Placement of Breast Implants

Posting this for the benefit of those who have had complete or full submuscular placement of TE's and now implants, if you have had your exchange surgery.

"Full Sub-muscular (Complete unders): This placement involves the act of separating the two pectoralis, the major and minor and chest wall , as well as separating the fascia, or thick muscle covering, from the muscle itself (the rectus abdominus). However, for ease of wording and for terminology recognition we will refer to it as full sub-muscular placement. With placement of the implant "behind the muscle" as it is commonly referred to, the breasts may appear high and tight and even somewhat square looking for some time but patience is a virtue! Patients with this placement report that it is worth the long run. With this placement the chance of capsular contraction is reportedly much lower and the breasts take on a more natural slope on the top as well as no visible rippling on the sides and breast lobe, or lower pole (underneath, bottom portion of the breast), that may be otherwise present in the sub-pectoral placement."

    COMMENTS:

I think that with complete submuscular placement, even when the muscles finally relax and permit "fluffing" or increased natural projection of the breast, it is likely that the implants will appear to have less volume than would implants of the same volume with partial pectoral placement - where the skin provides sole covering of the implant.  So this raises the question of whether implants of a little additional volume might be selected for those with complete or full "unders", in order to compensate for this compression.  [No, not you Peg - you have enough volume! ]

lifegoeson: You should have let us know about Kenya weeks ago!  Yikes!  This brought back a flood of emotion for me with caring for a dog with autoimmune disease - the ANGUISH you are feeling is just palpable on these pages.  Did your vet mention Wobbler's Syndrome?  Scroll down on this link and read Bruce Wittles DVM's commentary on Wobblers.  Reducing protein intake seems hugely beneficial at this point.  I'll send you some other info and getting on a Great Dane forum for support will aid in the helpless feeling I know you must be going through.  I'll PM you with additional information.
