    Welcome typhoon

this is the best place to be....

I had a 23yr old rad breast that cancer got hold of again in 2008.  You might want to take it nice and slow with the fills on that rad breast of yours.  I had the LD flap surgery so I have a new flap of skin and new muscle that was stretched and I did not have any problems.  After my last fill my PS waited 4 months before exchange in order to give the rad side plenty of time to do its thing.  It has done beautifully and now 1 yr post exchange it is still soft and perky. If you have plenty of skin then you may be OK but if you have little skin and are going bigger in size then I would recommend small fills every two weeks....I know the TE's are awful but you should not rush a rad breast. I would like to see you get great results.

((((Bigapple))))  stay away from the heating pad......

Lorraine,  great news that you got your boob fixed.....When will you get to see?

Linda! the nips took about an hour or so, I had them done at 10am, was home by 12:30, they did a general not a local, but it was light?? whatever that means! I feel good, just bandaged up. MS!  I have to go back to the doc on Monday to take off the bandages and take a look! She knows I am going back to work after the appointment on Monday, she wanted me to take two weeks (crazy woman!) I can't do that! She said this morning don't move my arms (like after exchange) as she doesn't want my stitches pulling, but I just finished 3 months of physical therapy because I got frozen shoulder in both shoulders because I limited my arm movements after bi-lat and exchange, so I won't be doing that again!! I will have limited movement for the next couple of days but thats that, I can't go through that again!  She told me that after two weeks I can go back to my normal schedule i.e. working out etc.

Lorraine,  2 weeks? Yikes.  The 2 week jury thing may be a blessing in disguise.  How is your pain?  Were you prescribed anything more than Motrin?  I hope you get a good nights rest. Sorry for so many questions, but I learn from those that have "been there and done that".

Wendy, I meant to comment on the burned boobies, but I used a heating pad all the time when I had the muscle spasms with the TE.  Holy smokes, I can see how it could happen and I hope that you are OK.  I hope that the skin heals quickly.  Jan

Laura: Great to hear you are doing well...

Re RADS boobs: My ps won't do an exchange before 9 months after rads...the skin is softening and will continue to soften for the next 9 months.  That way, he can put in an implant that is about 50cc smaller than my expander... So don't be in a hurry...

Re getting nipples along with the exchange:  .Your implants will 'settle' after a few months.  They may settle evenly, they may not.  The doc who does them at the same time is betting on the outcome.  I wouldn't when I can guarantee the outcome if I wait.  So I would wait.

Deborah:  Have a great time.  We'll hold down the fort for you...

Karen: a torn rotator cuff?  Ouch..I know the repair and the PT afterwards can take a while.  (Yes, it's better news than otherwise, but still..)  Good luck with it.

Laura -- Yeah!  You are done and beautiful!!!

Big Apple - My PS said no ice and no heating pads for that reason.  You can't feel it if you overdue.  I'd watch that burn.  If it gets redder or looks infected, check in with the doc.

Lorraine - Glad surgery went well.  We are all looking forward to the unveiling.

Karen - Hope your shoulder feels better soon.  I feel like I am falling apart as well.  man, it's rough getting old.

Sis - I am over 1 year out from a double mastectomy and still very numb, especially under my arms and the lower side of the breast.

As for me -- tattoo is still pretty red and dark.  I hope it fades.  I don't like this color.

Thank you all so much for your kind words.  Lorraine and Laura--while I was at the hospital getting more scans today I was thinking and praying for you, too!

Wendy--you bring up a very good point.  I have a friend who dropped her curling iron and didn't realize until later that day at a doctors appt. she burnt herself to the point of have a 3 inch blister.  We need to pay attention to heat and make sure our clothes don't have any pins from the dry cleaners, etc.

Jan---I get your sister hurt, glad, so glad it isn't mets but it hurts a ton.

Jean--I'll take arthritis over the alternative any day.

    Good Ladies---Love ya,

Robin--Yup, I was talking tonight at our work "event" about turning 50 in April, and although I feel like I'm falling apart---I'm so glad to be turning 50!

Judy--EeeK, I hadn't thought there would be anything but PT, Geez, I hope they don't do surgery.  I refuse to have any surgery unless it includes a tummy tuckLaughing

    Night!

No apologies needed about laughing, I laughed too. I told my daughter it was a good thing I didn't catch fire, because I would not have noticed till I smelled the smoke,

Its ironic because the thing that I was most freaked about before the surgery was hurting myself and not realizing it, and everyone said, nah you're too smart for that, could not happen. So it goes to show you that no matter how many degrees you have, you can still be a bone head.

I can't wait for my S/O to notice, that will be a great conversation, I'm thinking a suppressed giggle followed by paternalistic advise that I must be more careful, I'll try to have an appropriate response but "Yah think" is the best I can come up with,

We will miss you Deborah even if it is just a few days...

    (((((Laura)))))

Lorraine,  the light general is just twilight sleep,,,nothing DEEP....

With my exchange I took only a week off.  I had some pocket work done on one side....I do wonder now that if I had not used that arm for a while longer I may not have needed that revision a few months later....guess I will never know....glad you are doing well and can't wait to get an update Monday....if you can send some pictures over email I can post them on the forum.  I did it for Joyce.

athena,  I know you are excited to have your exchange tomorrow.  I pray everything goes well and that you will be pleased.

Funny thing is my  BS suggested a heating pad for the muscle spams.   This morning I was hugging the heating pad but to no relief.  Now after reading about the burn, I will have to watch out as these mounds are definately numb.  Having bad day today for some reason I can't stop crying.  Work sent me home and told me to work from home the next 2 days.  Maybe I went back too quick and just overall tired of the pain and muscle spasms.

Good Morning Ladies! :) I am sitting here at the pharmacy - just finished my PS surgery folow up and it looks like I will be tentatively put on the scedule to get my left TE put back in (removed for infection) in December... I am excited to move forward! He is not doing any fills on the right side until then. I had hoped that left would be 'fixed' (it's a right mess after emergency surgery) before dh returns home... Glad we are not pushing it though - certainly don't want to do that again :).

    Good luck Athena!! Yay!! :)

typhoon55 - I am so sorry that you are having a bad day.  I have cried buckets ovet the past year.   This whole process leads to a roller coaster of emotions.  Let your feelings out, go take a relaxing bubble bath, and eat some ice cream.  Works for me!  Hang in there!

    Hugs!

typhoon55... I have found that it someimes helps for a minute to not only pamper yourself like firstmate suggested - but to watch a good movie and let yourself be absorbed in something else while you are just as comfy as you can get... hang in there!

Karen, let me add my voice to the chorus of congrats.  I had a torn rotator cuff a few years back and they are very painful.

BigApple, sorry about your burn.  :(  I'll keep in mind that this can happen, I probably never would have thought of it.

Hi everyone.  I'm going to ask this question again, I posted it a few pages back but I think it got missed.

Has anyone had their nipple reconstruction done at the same time as their exchange?  My PS said he could do them both at the same time, but I thought they were usually done as seperate procedures.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Terri.. I have no idea.. I have heard it is not good as your boobs will settle over about two months.. so it is best to wait....

    Any other Ladies??

Terri - I believe there have been a couple of women who have had the nipple reconstruction at the same time as exchange but I don't know of their outcome. My PS will not perform the nipple reconstruction at exchange because of the settling of the implants - this would just cause more issues with symmetry and alignment. I have to wait at least two months after exchange.

My PS wouldn't do nips at exchange either, I am glad she didn't because my boobs settled and if she had have done them at the same time they wouldn't have been in the right place.

    Terri,

Does your PS do "boobs mostly" or does he do a lot of other PS work?  I have noted consistently on this thread anyway, that the majority of PS's wait to allow for settling before doing the nipples.  Case in point is ME! My girls did not settle evenly...one is sliding west while the other is hanging tall. So next week my PS will try to raise the one a bit, take out some ripples, and do nips in one procedure.  He wanted 2 months after the exchange to do nipples, and almost as much for tatoos after that.  It makes total sense to me given my outcome....

The question I have been asking myself is...am I better off wearing a bra less often this upcoming week to really let the girls do their thing or not? It is 2 months post exchange, and I still prefer sports bras and surgical vests to "fashion bras". Just can't get enought support to feel good in the standard bras. Perhpas I should hang around the apartment topless (blinds closed of course), and let these girls loose for a while?!Kiss

Good luck Athena! I tend to think if a delay comes about it may very well be for your own good. Thing is...you may not know why!  We just need to go with it!

    God Bless!

ok, please explain to me abt this site.  Is this for women who have the fills every few wks & tehn gets the final implant?

I assume nobody here has done the one step..immediate recon w/ no fills?
