Good luck with the PT Laura -- you are amazing! I love your resilience and so glad to see your sense of humor (and libido) are not getting dashed by this latest setback
Hubby sweating by the pool as he plants lilies for you indeed!0 -
bagapple~
wow,i also get this 'drowning' feeling wheni sleep sitting up!
I have noticed it a few times now when, after a fill, i take to the sofa and prop myself as upright as possible. I can be just dropping off to sleep and i wake up gasping for breath as a can feel myself stop breathing!! It never happens when i lay in bed normally.
I didn't know what it was or why it was happening, but it really really scared me (i have a suffocation/drowning phobia). It made me scared to go back to sleep in case it happened again and i didn't wake up =(

Estepp: I hope your PT goes well and won't be as bad as you envision.

Kate and Tory, I had a job interview 3 days before my BMX amd did so well they wanted me for a second round. I had to put that second one off for 4+ weeks ( till the drains came out
). Unfortunately I think timing is everything and I told them I still couldn't start for another month (had to have exchange surgery) and I wanted all the surgery behind me. Needless to say, I did not get the job. It was a management job and would have been a lot of stress. This was not a good time to start a super stressful job. So now that the major milestone surgeries are over, I am back applying. But you are spot on- BC is a full time job. Finding Docs, Phone calls, scheduling Appointments, Second opinions etc. 0 -
Did anyone here have any problems going through security with TE's? I am flying next week, and I have a letter from my PS letting them know I have an implanted device, but I've heard on other threads that some women have still gotten patted down by TSA agents. Anyone have a similar experience with TE's or implants?

I too am wondering about flying. Asked my PS nurse and she said they don't set off alarms unless the alarms are set real low, and then you just tell them you have TEs. She didn't give me a letter - I don't want to get patted down. I'm not flying until August though.

Kate & vmudrow - I flew several times with my TE and it never set off the alarms. I took the ID card about the device with me just in case, but never had a problem. It would be prudent to take the letter or card if you have one, although I don't htink you'll have problems.
Following up my lymphedema note from yesterday, I've learned from some very active and knowledgeable gals in the LE threads that the BCO LE pages are apparently out of date. They themselves started a very good website that has additional info on prevention compared to the LE pages. So I'll point you to that one: http://www.stepup-speakout.org/riskreduction_for_lymphedema.htm. I found it really intersting. Do take a look, even if you read the BCO one.
Have a great day everyone!

Laura: So sorry your having to deal with lymphedema. I just went to a PT so I could get mobility back in my arm and I was really dreading it but it was actually really nice. She mostly just massaged and stretched the area to provide relief. I am hoping that you also get some enjoyment out of your appointment. Pamper yourself today!!
Waldo, Kate, Tory: I was in a really abusive job situation and was looking for a way out and then I recieved my diagnosis. It was all I could do but run out of there! Since I left they have put me up on a huge pedestal--I was the one who had built their business over the last 8 years. I decided to go into business for myself so that I could structure my dr. stuff around work. Unfortunately, having cancer is a full time job. It has taken over my life and now I am panicking because my disability will run out towards the end of September. The good news, is in my line of work it usually gets busy once the kids go back to school. Hopefully by then I can focus on work and not reconstruction and dr appointments.

I've been away fro this board for a few days. In the hospital (again) Another clean out, take out the old expander and put in a new one (I have now had 3 expanders and an implant on the right side).. Hopefully, this is the END. I go for an Expander exchange on Aug 16th (I hope) and that's it. I am a little loopy from the vicodin, and the antibiotics make food taste terrible. So I am losing weight - it's not all bad!! Here's to all of our quick and easy recoveries!! JUDY
OH- a BIG PS!! My first grandbaby was born while I was in the Hospital. A boy- Asher Samuel -
I can't wait to go see him..On Friday I think.0 -
Judy: I am crossing my fingers that this new expander is THE ONE! I can't imagine having to go through that 3 times. You are a very strong and patient woman. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Congratuations on Asher Samuel! He is lucky to have you as a grandma.0
-
JUDY: Congratulations! How thrilling for you. Hope you will be close enough to spend lots of time with him. I love the name Asher. Biblically, Asher was a virtuous man - the family mediator and head of his own tribe! A great namesake for your grandson.
Judy....bring your pigments to Vegas! My tattoos are too small! Just kidding, sort of. Some of us were talking and wish we could have you do our tats in Vegas....
Oh...and this has GOT to be it for you! I agree. Start mending and be ready for the exchange in August!

Asher means happy and blessed in Hebrew and Samuel was my father's name. I'll PM you about the tatts. Please, let this be it! JUDY

Wow, after getting behind, I've been catching up with posts from the last week!!! You ladies bring tears to my eyes, sometimes from the trials and tribulations we face and sometimes with the hysterical stories (what WAS that thang, Deborah?!)
Two quick notes...
Judy--congrats on the new g'baby! Beautiful name. And...you have GOT to be close to the end of these surgeries. GEEZ! Wishing only the best for you.
Laura--I can tell you there is definitely hope after an occurrence of LE. I expected it, was shocked when it appeared, learned that at well trained PT is the salvation for this condition and got treatment. My PT has a cert. as a lymphadema specialist. She calmed my swelling down and showed me techniques for self help which work. It still annoys me that I have one more thing I have to manage, but in the grand scale, for me it has been manageable. I hope you find a PT that knows her stuff. Mine also is just a lovely human being so it was a joy to see her. I'll go back after my exchange to get more help with range of motion since I've had some stiffening after Lat D/TEs. (((hugs))) deekaay

I had a meeting with my doctor today - surgery tomorrow.
I've always known I wouldn't get the kind of result many of you have but today he told me that there was no way they'd be the same size, and I would have to wear padding or a prothesis. I'm so disappointed - I knew they'd be lopsided but I thought I could put on a bra and look normal. Looks like that won't happen.
I am so thin, and they took so much tissue that he can't give me much and expect to close me up.
I'm too think to qualify for the tram flap - again, they wouldn't be able to close me up (I weigh 99 pounds.) But then he said that maybe they could do the stacked DIEP flap and did I want to talk to somebody?
I said, NOW????
they don't do them in my town so I'd have to go to San Francisco.
I asked him if I could do it later if I wanted and he said yes, I can have as many surgeries as I want.
Being thin doesn't always pay off, ladies.
Wish me luck.

I found a lump this weekend saw PS and Onc. today. Bad news it is a lymph node on my non cancerous side....It will need to be removed soon. Before the exchange surgery. Here is the kicker.....the onc is almost sure it is mrsa in the node. He is starting me tonight on oral antibiotics. They measured it circled it etc. Not sure if cancerous also.. I go back Friday am to see if I need to be hospitalized for anitibiotics...we were suppose to be going to N.D. this weeked for a baptism (godparents) to my hubby's brother he has waited 10 years for a baby and recently adopted a premie that was never suppose to live and is healthy after he all the love they gave him in the NICU. I want to bawl!!!! I have been so positive until now.....It was grim dr. appt. ..... you know the feeling when you know it isn't good......it has only been 5 weeks since my bmx. I just want to cry....and cry ,.....and cry! Thank you for listening....has anyone out there had mrsa in a lymph node??????
