Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?

My PCP's former medical practice partner (who is a mutual friend from Bob's residency days) has accepted me as a patient, albeit tele-medically for now. She's with another health system (NW Memorial) but via Epic has access to my records from Amita & NorthShore. For the time being, I don't need medical attention, but as my prescriptions from my PCP currently on auto-fill expire, she will renew them. (Bob is relieved at not having to continue prescribing for me, as the ethics of prescribing for family members are very iffy). For the first two years we lived in Chicago, our circle of friends--except for close neighbors--was almost exclusively Bob's fellow residents, with whom I hung out as much or more than he did: partying, going to the beach & concerts, drinking at Medical Center area watering holes after work, etc. I never really socialized with my co-workers (except for two after I switched divisions at the A.G.'s office); it wasn't till I began performing at open mics that our current circle of friends began--most of whom stemmed from one particular folk music bar.

Sandy, That must have really been a shock. I'm so sorry. So far I don't know anyone close to me that has had it or died from it. That would be creepy close, and to learn in via on-line service would make it seem unreal. I hope his daughter has support around her. May his memory be a blessing.
Rain here later in the day plus thunderstorms, which are pretty rare here. The last one we had a week or so ago was intense and very dramatic.

My PCP is survived by a wife, three of four siblings, four grown children and ten grandkids. His family is, I'm sure, gathering around him. A future online or outdoor memorial service is being planned.
Beautiful weather here the next two days--sunny and mild. Tues. night through Wed. we are expected to get the remnants of Cristobal; then it will be muggy & hot again.

There is no question that this is a hard time to grieve - for loved ones, for strangers, and for our country.

Sandy- sorry for the loss of your PCP. And that had to be a shock in how you found out.
My GP office sent me a text yesterday telling me to contact them, we need to reschedule my appt. Well I called, listened to the prompts, got to the scheduler and was on hold for 20+ minutes before I hung up. My appt isn't until 7/30, which was pushed out from 5/28. It's for a yearly physical. I should be looking for another doctor, but now is not the time.
IllinoisLady - My wrist surgery is also a "drop me off" do not come in, they'll call when I can leave. I'm less nervous on my own, but usually leave all my stuff with my partner. Should be different, but like you, I'll be ok.

Good morning, ladies. It is still raining and muggy, it should dry out some later today. BP is good, 110/74. That's after a cup of strong coffee. Today I will work on the clutter around my office area. It is a mess. Have a good day.

In no way can we so effectively hasten the dawning of the inner consciousness of another, as by showing forth the divinity within ourselves simply by the way we live. By example and not by precept. By living not by preaching. By doing not professing. -RalphWaldo Trine

Good morning, ladies. The sun is out and I will head out for a walk.

Goodness, you ladies have been chatty! I had to catch up on several pages of posts. It's hot and humid today here in northern MN. We ran the a/c last night and have it on today. We had a thunder storm last night with heavy rain. My neighbor said we got 1 1/2 inches of rain.
I walked today, probably two miles that included a couple of fairly steep hills. I discovered, thanks to dh, that I have a stop watch function on my IPhone so I can keep track of the time.
I was glad to learn this morning that the tropical storm caused my family in south Louisiana no problems.
Sandy, I'm sorry that your PCP lost his life thanks to doing his job. Some people up here wear masks but it's less than 50 per cent. So many people in sparsely populated areas just don't "believe" in Covid-19. The folks here in the campground this weekend didn't seem bothered in the least with any concerns. I will continue to wear a mask when I do shopping and do social distancing as much as possible. DH and wore masks most of the time when we were set up as vendors in the Farmers' Market on Saturday. The Market has a new location that is better than last year's. We got more compliments than sales but we will continue to go.
Today is dh's 81st birthday. We have a reservation for outdoor dining at a restaurant that is his favorite in this area. It's about a 45 minute drive. The patio dining there is popular even in normal times. Indoor dining in restaurants doesn't begin until Wednesday.
Jackie, I'm hoping for good news about your health. The same with you, Petite.

We are expecting a few inches of rain starting at three tomorrow. It got up to 89deg today. I have my new AC on.
I finally got fed up with sleepless nights, and went to the CBD shop in town. Expensive stuff, but I get a 30% price break with proof of various conditions. I sent them a picture of my venlafaxine and gabapentin bottles. She gave me a sample of this and a sample of that, so I was very very comfortable working out at the gym immediately after. So I know that it works.
Sandy, I am so sorry.
I seem my PCP next week, the first time in a year. I have been handed to one specialist after another. I have to make a long list of everything we need to talk about.

Sitting here waiting for the contractors ( HVAC ) to call with a quote for repairs. We have been dealing with this for a few days. Luckily while it has gotten into the 90's with windows ajar and fans running our house hasn't topped 80. Even when the use air we normally don't turn it to more than 78 - so 2 more degrees is not so bad. There is some humidity but the fans help enough that we are fine. At some point though. First estimate was $3,600.00 -- about half the original cost of the furnace 4 yrs. ago. Will see what #2 comes up with. They may be able to do something with warranty but can't promise. They say it is difficult to do.
Then I go out to leave for my little job in Sandoval and my car won't start. One battery cable was quite corroded. Dh cleaned it and is charging it up and we will see how it goes. I hope it is okay but I may get another battery anyway. There was no marking on the battery for when I had it put in but the store where I bought it should be able to look it up. I was able to call a gal to cover for me. Here's hoping.
We have some outdoor dining here. A Mexican place called Tequila's. I usually just get a steak burrito as they are very large and come with a side of rice and refried beans.
Hope you all had a good day.

Exterminator came bright and (for me) too early this a.m. and set 4 traps in the garage. He says he's seen far worse. Electrician is out there now working, laying the conduit. Turns out the landscaper still dug the trench in the wrong place, and as a result the electrician had to bend a length of conduit and has to drill a hole in the garage baseboard wall so that the conduit can reach the outlet box--and he's a few feet of conduit short and has to come back tomorrow with more and then fish the wiring through it back into the basement. Then once he's satisfied the new line works, the landscaper can fill the trench back in (and ultimately sod over it). I am SO tired of trying to get grown men to communicate with each other.
I read an article by NPR in my Apple News feed, by a group of immunologists/infectious disease specialists about what is and isn't safe this summer. To my chagrin, getting a haircut is considered "medium to high risk" because of close facial contact. But my stylist was masked and gloved, and I was masked the entire time, with eye protection during the blowouts. I was in there over 2 hrs, though, because he had hurt his back and ribs a few days before while straining (I won't elaborate on what he was straining to do, TMI--you can figure it out). I asked him after he had finished the touch-up whether he would rather postpone the keratin & cut, but he said no. I am very, very nervous now about whether I risked exposure. According to an online risk calculator tool, I am at low risk for catching the virus but at high risk of dying if I do catch it and develop COVID. So the next week and a half I will be on tenterhooks, trying not to panic over every little allergy symptom. (Grass & weed pollens are high, as is mold, and trees are moderate). Nervous about this Wed.'s mani-pedi too, even though the salon owner says she's taking extreme protective measures (perhaps even having me don gloves with the fingertips cut off so only my nails and fingertips are exposed). If when I walk in I see too many people in there and insufficient distancing, I will apologize that I must cancel and walk out. (She didn't wear gloves pre-pandemic when working on my mani, though she always has for the pedi; so I hope and pray she does now).
Bob called and is bringing home Filipino food his partner cooked (she is an awesome cook). I may just take a starch blocker so I can eat it.

Sandy, I worry and fret too about my backyard haircut, both of us masked, but there were times when he was cutting the sides when Danny’s face was close to mine. It took about 20 minutes, but, at one point, I realized my mask had slipped below my nose. So I’m counting the days too. He told me that a client walked into the beauty shop, looked around, said it was too crowded and left. He’ll cut her hair in yard. I will not go now for a manicure, sitting face to face, too close for me, even masked. Besides I love the Nailtiques and my new short clean little girl looking nails.
Looked at outdoor patios today in Northfield. Tapas Gitanes looks like the best bet, also Happ Street Inn, but only for 2. With 4 at a table, the distancing doesn’t seem enough. Will be patient, but,at my age, how patient can I be

I had to call GP office today, mentioned before that they text me to reschedule. I got through, next available December 1. You read that right, December! I said: For real? I won't be here. I asked for a note to be left for her. I definitely need a new Dr.
Wrist surgery set for Wednesday. I have to arrive at 10:45, procedure at 12:15. I thought great, I can sleep in, shower & shampoo before it. Then I thought Oh, no food after midnight. Six of one, half dozen of another. I'll survive.
IllinoisLady - We replaced our AC in FL in May of 2019. I believe we paid $4,500 for all new full replacement of HVAC. I hope your second estimate is much better than the first.
I spent an hour or more weeding my front garden, and cutting stalks on the hydrangeas that have no new growth. I watered everything too. I think tomorrow I'll get the electric trimmer out & go to town on shrubs. I'm guessing after surgery I won't enable to use such a tool for about 3 months.
Hope you all had a great day!
PS - hair cuts here, no shampoo and no blow dryers used. You're supposed to wash hair 3 hrs before appt. And I still can't wait!

Cindy, in your pocket for the wrist surgery. Had it a couple of years ago, and you should make a swift recovery.
Texted the nail spa and asked what precautions they're taking. If I don't like what I hear, I will cancel Wed.'s mani-pedi appt.

My stylist had not heard about the no blow drying policy at some salons. She shampooed my hair and used the blow dryer, too. She wore a mask but asked me to remove mine.
Our patio dining experience last night was very enjoyable. Even though the temperature was high, in the 80's, the humidity didn't seem as high as it is at home. The tables were spaced apart and the server wore a mask but it was quite loose. When the table next to us was vacated, the young girl who was assisting the server thoroughly wiped the chairs and changed the tablecloth. I did wonder about the bound menus.
Cindy, good luck with the surgery and recovery. Sounds like you accomplished a lot with your yard work. I put in hours in our yard when we first quarantined ourselves and the weather was pleasant for being outdoors. By the time we left home, though, the weeds were making a comeback.
I do enjoy the visiting on this forum.

Good morning, Ladies. I got a haircut. YAY! It looks nice and white like it did before. I wore a mask and so did she. They clean the chair and station after each client. People wait in their cars. Appointments only and no waiting in the building. They are using every other station.
My wonderful cleaning lady is here today and the yard man just finished. A good day.

A woman from Sierra Leone was on the radio this morning, She described lockdown during the Ebola crisis. A friend who lived next door came down with it. Within a week the whole family was sick and died. At one point her father was vomiting and had diarrhea, both were symptoms of Ebola infection. Finally her uncle took her father to the hospital. They were so relieved it was Malaria. I was struck by how similar it was to posts on here, where only someone with cancer would be happy about a serious but different diagnosis.

Whenever I'm caught up with needless thoughts, I ask myself two questions. If I'm wanting something to happen, and it's not turning out the way I want, for example, I ask, "If I get what I think I'm wanting, will it really make me feel peaceful and happy?" The answer is usually "No." Then the second question is, "Even if I don't get it, can I still be at peace?"The answer is usually "Yes." -Peter Russell

Saw my Dr. this morning. Good and bad news. Bad news is that it is cancer, but the good news is that it is low grade and seems to be only in the ureter. There are options to consider though -- ultimately I may lose a kidney -- only the right side ( rt. ureter ) is affected. So, onward to conference with my PCP with any corresponding evals that might be necessary. I'm relieved it is only one side and they can clean out the ureter. I definitely need a lot more info, but I think this is ( as presented today ) workable.
We are getting wind and some water. Dh had a limb come out of the tree on his truck, but while it was a pretty hefty one it didn't do tooo much. Just sad that the truck was perfect before. I got my battery put in my car and back on the road again to go to my little job. We are still awaiting the estimate ( I guess the shop in Nashville is swamped ) for our furnace/ac unit. Fingers crossed. Dh got a blue screen on his computer so is working with Microsoft on that. As has been said -- it's always something.
Hope you are all doing fine and able to enjoy your day. Thinking about you Cindy.

IllinoisLays - that is not news I wanted to hear for you. You seem very pragmatic, "only" one kidney. I could rant & rave over unfairness, but you're living it and have a solid plan. I'll keep you in my prayers. I know you'll keep us posted. HUGS

IllinoisLady - holding you close. Love your positive attitude.

IllinoisLady, you are in my thoughts and prayers...and in your pocket as you go through the "it's cancer" process once again. Hoping for the minimum.

Jackie, so sorry you have to go through this again--but it looks like they caught it very early and hopefully the solution will be surgical.
We got crazy downpours every hour or two--plus extreme wind. Fortunately, no trees down on our block. Electrician kept sheltering in the garage or his car out front--planning on finishing up tomorrow.

Prayers for you, Jackie. The prognosis is good, so you and your doctors can go ahead with confidence.

Jackie, I was so hoping for more positive news. I know you were, too. Hoping for a good outcome.
It's in the 50's here this morning. We have the heat pump going to take the chill out.
I put our 16 ft. fishing boat on Marketplace a couple of days ago and the response was immediate. A woman came yesterday to look at the boat and said she would return today with the cash for payment. I hope she follows through. I have mixed feelings about selling the boat but we didn't put it in the water last summer because dh has no interest in fishing and neither of us is keen on cleaning any fish we might catch. I can't bring myself to kill them when they look so pretty in the water. With that said, I have no problem eating fillets.

Imagine your mind as a garden and thoughts as the seeds you plant. Habitual negative, unhealthy, self-critical thoughts produce the weeds and thistles of depression, discontent, and anxiety in the garden of your mind. Luckily, the opposite is also true. Consistently planting positive, healthy, constructive thoughts will yield a crop of beautiful feelings, such as gratitude, love, and joy. -Sue Patton Thoele
