San Francisco was just beautiful yesterday. Blue skies, a real true blue. Winds have stopped--we've been having terrible winds that are unlike anything we have had in the past. Walked 5 miles yesterday, once in am and once in pm. The dusk walks are my favorite and the light is lovely. Now getting ready to take take care of a horse. Life is good today.

Illinois Lady, Hope your treatment will be as easy as possible. Sounds like it's really early which always helps. I hope you're able to get it 'done and dusted' asap.

Sunny this morning and tomorrow (hopefully). My book club is planning to meet outside on a member's patio tomorrow. Haven't seen any of them since Feb, so it will be wonderful to visit.

Carole, I had to laugh at your fish story. I think a lot of us would be vegetarians if we had to kill our own food. It's lots easier to 'forget' that bacon and hamburger come from live animals.

Thanks ladies. I took hope I can get some much needed repairs and be back on the road taking care of animals, while throwing in a person or two now and then.

I had to laugh Wren. Thinking of my sister ( they did not have a lot of land but she bought a calf and raised it ) for them to have later on. When I would go up North (this was in California ) I would walk out to the stall where the calf was kept and she would call it by name. Now of course, no way could I do this anyway -- but to actually NAME your intended victim. I still wonder how much money do you really save anyhow with feed, possible vet bills, and the final straw of processing. I guess the thing is -- the cost is spread out when you begin the project and any savings might be in what you don't have to buy once it is all over.

I am too picky about what meat comes from a cow or pig or whatever. It would be wasted on me for sure. I get a little chicken which makes me feel guilt, and a little hamburger, which also makes me feel guilty, a few roasts ( pork and beef ) which again make me feel sort of guilty -- but I don't feed these animals or give them a name and in the end I figure we can't live as pioneers now anyway. It is better for my well-being if I don't have to see animals destined to feed people. We are actually not heavy meat eaters.

Thank goodness, cool today and a wonderful breeze. It was sort of not so good yesterday. Hot and muggy. Feels inside like we have a/c which we don't yet. Still awaiting our estimate. My husband called and the lady said they were swamped with bids to be written up. I hope that means we have a good company and not a fly-by-night.

Hope you all have a great day.

Our friend in Montana had pigs they raised to eat. Their names were pork and chop. They were clever. The pig pen this year became the garden next year. The pigs had killed all the weeds and the soil was fertile. They also raised goats for the milk. All was fine until a bear came upon the wife milking a goat and decided to follow her to the house. They said the bear was great in stew. They moved to Montana because "Alaska was getting too crowded."

I've actually tasted bear meat. The Olympic Peninsula town of Elma, WA holds an annual "Bear Festival," and I always wondered about it. Finally, at the end of our last summer in Seattle, we were heading out to the coast for a little R&R. The festival was happening, so we went in. I was shocked to find out it was about eating bears. I tried bear stew, and it was gross & gamy. Ugh.

I have amped up my technology game the past few months. It seems like one thing leads to another.

    1. Got new HA's. They are Bluetooth compatible, so I went back to US Cellular, and told them I am ready to resume cellphone. Got a new i-Phone. Of course, I had to download a bunch of apps, like transcription apps, of which there are many. The phone also works as a microphone.

    2. My audi suggested that I get more adaptive equipment, because I am totally out of contact with the world, other than Tippy, when I am sleeping (and he is not that reliable). So I got a gizmo that produces flashing lights, a buzzing pillow, and loud sound in my bedroom when the phone rings. It also has a doorbell.

    3. During "Safer at Home", I realized that I would watch the TV more if the screen (and CC) were bigger. So I bought a 32 inch TV. It has an app.

    4. I got an air conditioner. It also has an app. I don't know how many days a year it will be necessary, but it is going to be welcome, has already been great for two days so far.

    5. Today the maintenance man installed the doorbell which goes with my alarm system (which is also a clock).

I don't know how much this is going to cost me on a monthly basis, hopefully I can curb my spending until I get the budget rebalanced.

Never tasted anything other than pheasant, venison, goose, turkey, chicken, beef, and pork.

Just a note. The house is so cool this late afternoon we may need to put a blanket back on the bed. Incredible, but nice. Still no word from the HVAC people. They are going to make money hand or fist if they don't get too many turn downs. I know their routine work is being done, so they must be really good.

beep7bop welcome, welcome. You most certainly qualify as long as you want to be here. We are not fussy much about age, but gathered together because unlike younger people raising children with maybe a long work career, a few of our conditions and issues are different -- so we feel like we are a better fit as part of the BC. Org group within a group for each other.

Many of us are retired so we have that difference too. I hope you will feel free to jump right in and share. We do talk about cancer and the issues we face but we also have a lot of discussion on many different topics. It is a nice friendly place -- though and we look forward to sharing with one another -- especially now with so many difficulties in groups of people being together. So come often even though we always hope no one else will need to find us. Someday -- but not just yet.

    Jackie

Welcome Beep7Bop. Good luck on the biopsy. There are a lot of scar things that can cause masses and they can't tell until they do a biopsy. We have a saying here 'in your pocket' meaning with you in spirit whenever you need us. What kind of dogs do you have?

Beep7Bop- welcome! A wealth of information, a listening ear, we're all here for you.

Wrist surgery went well. In at 10:15, home after CVS by 2:30. Took 2 pain pills and slept for 1.5 hrs. Icing every hr. I'll take pain med again before I go to bed but hoping by morning to switch to Advil. Stuck in bandage for 12-14 days; they'll call tomorrow w appointment. Amazon delivers an arm cover tomorrow so that I can shower.

I think we're getting a thunderstorm overnight, with storms on & off during the day tomorrow. Hope your weather is better than mine!

Cindy, after my wrist/arm/hand surgery I had only 2 days' worth of Norco. After that, my ortho said that a combo of 600-800 mg. ibuprofen (3 or 4 Advil) plus 1000mg. acetaminophen (2 Extra Strength Tylenol) every 6 hrs. is just as effective--and neither addictive nor constipating. He was right. (My endodontist suggested the same). After a few days you can dial down the Advil (to give your gut a break) and eventually do just the Tylenol.

You're getting the thunderstorms we had.

I have a good bear story. In the early years of our marriage, dh and I spent a year in Vermont where we both worked at Bolton Valley Ski Lodge. We lived in a house trailer which we rented. It was located in a lovely little location at the foot of a mountain with three other trailers. We could see a small waterfall from our dining room window. A young man, a Vermonter, in one trailer was a hunter. He killed a bear during the winter and hung it from a tree branch, using the outdoors as a freezer. When he butchered the bear, he gave us bear steaks, which as I recall all these years later, tasted pretty good.

We all have, without exception, a very deep longing to give—to give to the earth, to give to others, to give to the society, to work, to love, to care for this earth. That's true for every human being. And even the ones who don't find it, it's because it has been squashed or somehow suppressed in some brutal way in their life. But it's there to be discovered. We all long for that. -Jack Kornfield

Caring for one another, we sometimes glimpse an essential quality of our being. We may be sitting alone, lost in self-doubt or self-pity, when the phone rings with a call from a friend who's really depressed. Instinctively, we come out of ourselves, just to be there with her and say a few reassuring words. When we're done, and a little comfort's been shared, we put down the phone and feel a little more at home with ourselves. We're reminded of who we really are and what we have to offer one another. -Ram Dass and Paul Gorman

Some good news here. Although we will go through the week-end w/o our new furnace/ac repair, the company we hired were able to get our work done mainly on warranty. Good thing we were patient. Rather than the $3,600.00 or more, it will cost $800.00. We are breathing a huge sigh of relief. The person at that company worked so hard for us. Over three and a half days on the phone to help us with what looked so daunting just yesterday. No one wants to pile up debts at this time with so much uncertainly going on.

I played golf in the women's league at nearby Eagle View golf course yesterday. It's a small 18 hole executive course that is quite challenging to me. It's very hilly and my ball seldom landed in a spot with a level stance. Sadly the course is not is great condition under new ownership. The couple who ran it for many years kept it in great shape. The greens were bumpy. But I liked the group of women, who were friendly and welcoming.

One woman in my foursome was 89, soon to be 90. She was amazing and probably outscored me. The membership is much cheaper than the membership at Headwaters Golf Course, which we joined the previous two years. Headwaters is a longer course that suits dh. We may end up with two single memberships.

It was cool again last night. We ran the heat pump this morning. I plan to take a walk for exercise.

So far MN is not one of the states with increasing Covid cases. I don't know how much testing is being done.

Don't need AC until probably next Tuesday.

I just got my approval for a discount on CBD. Will need to go out there this afternoon, and pick up some groceries and paint, too. CBD is working, and should keep me together until I see my PCP. Then we can discuss what to do.

Hope everything goes well with your recovery from wrist surgery, Cindy.

Petite, I really miss mountains! Bob wants to take a driving vacation late summer (assuming there's no massive shutdown again). Plan is to see my sis in Arlington, VA. We would love to be able to rent an RV (she has a big enough driveway that we wouldn't need a hotel), but if that's not possible we would very carefully plan our rest, food and hotel stops (bringing plenty of masks, disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer). Maybe I should practice squatting behind a bush should it come to that. Happy

When I was truly young, didn't need the bush because the front car door swing to the front and the back one to the back so they provided a screen. Don't remember worrying much about it, znyway.

On our way back from FL we had been warned that bathrooms may be a problem. I was totally prepared to assume the position. LOL. Luckily, all gas stations had open bathrooms.
