Good morning, ladies. It is a lovely morning, currently 74 degrees. Yesterday I went to the gym. The staff wore masks and the equipment had been moved around for social distancing. I was able to keep my mask on for about 10 minutes. I became short of breath and my heart rate was slightly up. I took the mask off and was able to continue. The equipment is cleaned before and after each use. I felt safe. Friday is my eye doctor appointment that has been put off for months. This is the yearly visit. I hope they don't find anything.

Taco, I would love to play golf with you if we ever have the opportunity. I won't be going to Thursday women's league this morning since we're having a rainy overcast morning. It started raining about 2 am. I woke up and worried a bit about my plants on the deck, hoping they wouldn't be beat up. They look ok this morning.
Petite, I was interested in your report on the gym. DH really misses the gym. I think I'll call today and check on the status of the small Anytime Fitness in town. We usually get a three-month membership and they might not be welcoming summer members.
Yesterday it felt like Arizona heat, the temperature up to high 80's and windy, but not humid. I got my exercise making numerous trips to the laundry room, which has one washer and one dryer. It took hours since I had four loads to wash and dry. My neighbor Mary has clothes lines over at her camper and hangs her laundry.

There is so much beauty around us, if we will only take the time to notice it. You can make a conscious effort to look for the essence and therefore develop an appreciation for the beautiful things in life. Your days will seem a lot less harried, I promise you. . . . The wonderful thing about beauty is that we can store it in our minds to be played over and over again. -Luci Swindoll

It is a beauty of a morning here. Lots to do today but fist off -- yesterday we decided to use the a/c for the first time after the men from Nashville repaired it. It wouldn't work. As we speak a technicians is in the living room installing a new thermostat. So, no need for my panic yesterday. I had visions of the coming heat and not being able to use our air. All will be fine. In fact, we will actually go back to having what we thought we had --- which was a nearly new energy efficient furnace and a/c.
I also have my regular load for Thurs too. Going to Sandoval for the cats and kittens, and then on to my friend's house so she can have her bath as well as having a telephone appt. with my PCP. So, a rather full day but that is all right. Tomorrow will be a much more relaxed day for us I hope.
We did not get the humidity I thought we would yesterday so everything did work out Just had all the running in one day but it has been like that lately. I have a new pressure cooker to try out soon and I look forward to it. Had quit using my old one because it was old and warped and just seemed not to work so well anymore. They are more reasonable to buy I found out.
Hope you all have a great day.

Sandy, Am envious you are going to The Barn Steakhouse, valet’s aside. Vegetarian that I am, I absolutely loved it. Had a wonderfully delicious cauliflower steak, even better than the imaginative one at Joe’s Crabhouse. All this before the Virus struck.
On Tuesday, we ordered food for curbside pickup from Misrahi Grill ,a little Kosher place at Crossroads. When we went to get it, I noticed four big patio tables set up outside, about 12 feet apart. Three were taken. We spontaneously sat at the fourth. Men, little boys at the table closest to us, but still very distanced, were wearing yarmulkes, women in modest dress, some speaking Hebrew. Hummus and falafel were great and it was like sitting outside in Jerusalem on a warm summer night. And, to eat in the open, which I don't even usually like, felt like a brand new experience since the virus, totally appreciated.0 -
Yesterday was my haircut day, and it felt great! Afterwards I went looking for a replacement pool. Long story short: 1st place has none in stock, has order out for 70, has 150 installs waiting, could install the first week of September. 2nd place has no above ground, focus on in ground. 3rd has none in stock but supply arriving and could install on 8/6 but we'll be in Cape Cod, so 8/14 it is.
I knew due to COVID-19 a lot of parents are stuck at home with children, home schooling. They've also bought up all the pools, and I've heard all the trampolines too.
It's supposed to get very hot here, humidity going up. Possible showers over the weekend.
Once my bandage is off my wrist (Tuesday), and the pool is totally down (Saturday expected), we can begin a scraping of the shed attachment to the garage to restain, then restain the deck, and get a tree taken down - all easier than normal because the pool has already been destroyed. Only bright side I'm seeing now.
Hope you all have a great Friday!

DH and I went to the Anytime Fitness yesterday and paid for a 3 month membership, which is pricey, but it's the only game in town. The cardio machines are spaced apart and the weight machines, too. One thing I didn't like is the upright bike and recumbent bike are in a small room previously used for exercise classes. I decided that joining the gym was a risk reward decision. DH feels he has suffered physically from not using a gym and I think my body has suffered from long walks on pavement.
There have been 6 cases of Covid in Hubbard County, a large county. The young woman who works at the gym said she had recently talked to a Park Rapids hospital employee who said the hospital has not had a single case. Yet. With all the summer people, the threat of someone bringing the coronavirus into this part of lake country is increased.
So we will go to the gym this morning.
This morning we are in the high 50's. What a welcome change.
Cindy, interesting that there is a shortage of pools.

Good morning, Ladies. My gym is Any Time Fitness. I have Silver Sneakers and membership is free. My skin biopsy was benign. Thank goodness. Now heading to the eye doctor.

Yay petite. Good to get good news.
It is going to warm up a whole lot more today. Thankfully -- all the bugs now seem to be out of our HVAC and it works like a charm. In fact, it is working so good and running so little we turned it to 76. We have normally kept it at 78 to 80. Partly as we don't need it too ' cool ' but also it tended to save a bit for us at the same time. Our system has now worked well for a couple of yrs ( energy efficiency was null during that time ) and that was a shame since it was basically new. We are hoping to go back now to our previous good numbers and see our bill go down again.
Sounds like it will stay hot for awhile so we are more than happy to have our a/c back in fine form. We will get rain over the week-end ( sounds more like mainly Sunday ) so we will see if it brings the temps back down.
Nothing special planned today -- yesterday was the biggie. Had my telephone Dr.'s appt. and it went very well. My numbers were all fantastic, and better than last yr. when I had at that time virtually nothing going on. This is good news for me since I'm looking at a likely surgical procedure.
Hope you all have a great Friday.

I also have Silver Sneakers. With chemo neuropathy, a weak right ankle from rampant sciatica a few years ago, and midfoot arthritis in my left foot, gym membership is essential. I have discovered that CBD increases my exercise tolerance. I have lost the 4 pounds of COVID weight.
I was scheduled for a fasting blood test this morning, but absent-mindedly ate a handful of strawberries from my garden first thing this morning. Rescheduled in the neighboring town for tomorrow morning (Sat.), luckily got transportation arranged.
Quilting club has restarted. One member has plenty of room, their church has not yet re-opened. Book club has a meeting scheduled also.
I finished painting my benches, and got my plants on the backless one. I expect to get the oilcloth for the cushions for the chairs today, and start sewing them. Still planning how I am going to be doing this.

Congrats on the weight loss, Mary! I'm not going back to the gym yet (it's not open), but may do an online personal training assessment and work out in my bedroom (A/C willing). I'm 2/3 through my CLE courses. Might watch more after 6/30 to get a head start on the 2022 reporting period. (I actually have one I took on 7/1/18, so it can count for this year).
Judy, how wonderful that you were able to get an outdoor table at Misrahi! (Is that "Crosssroads" the one on Skokie Rd. n. of Lake-Cook? I used to go to a glatt Kosher deli there, and way back in the day I got my hair done at the misspelled Via Venato. The bigger deli, Max & Benny's, was the northern outpost of Toojay's, where my mom liked to go in Boca). The last cauliflower steak I had was at Next of Kin on Davis St., with fregola sardo on the side. Yum! Of course, back then we just took the Purple Line up to restaurants & movies. We're not going to valet park tonight--too risky, IMHO. Will park in the Sherman Plaza garage--we need the walk, and it's only in the low 80s and not sticky. Next week Chicago will let restaurants add indoor dining at 25% capacity, but I think for me that's still too risky.
UPDATE: Evanston was alive tonight--one of the beaches bordering Chicago was open, with a lifeguard, no less. Many restaurants in the Davis/Sherman/Church area had expanded patios. Was a little tricky finding The Barn on foot after we'd parked in the city garage (turns out there was plenty of street parking), but it was wonderful. (It's in an old building across from the post office, that used to house an organic grocery--the original Wild Oats, IIRC). It had two patios: one at parking-lot level under a tent, and the bar patio one level up, under several strands of lights It was such a delight seeing Gordy & Leslie again, across the table, no masks (except when we were going to the restroom). Next weekend is our anniversary--I think I will grill and have them over. (It'll also be Happy's 13th birthday--his Cat Mitzvah).

Petite1 & IllinoisLady - good news for both of you! MCBarker, great news on weight loss!
Pool shortage - I'm guessing they're not made in USA. Hence w various lockdowns they stopped making them. Throw in many at home w kids ordering them, stock is gone.
Our old pool should come down tomorrow. God son taking it away as scrap metal.
Enjoy Saturday!

To tell a lie in cowardice, to tell a lie for gain, or to avoid deserved punishment--are all the blackest of black lies. On the other hand, to teach one to try one's best to avoid the truth--even to press it when necessary toward the outer edge of the rainbow--for a reason of kindness, or of mercy, is far closer to the heart of truth than to repeat something accurately and mercilessly that will cruelly hurt the feelings of someone. -Emily Post

Went strawberry-picking today...but at a natural-foods store, since the forecast was for occasional storms and the closest U-pick farm is in IN (I don't feel safe leaving IL). Got a gorgeous pint of insanely ripe (red all the way through) berries from a farm that delivers to that grocery; as well as a couple of apricots, half a dozen duck eggs, a pint of cremini 'shrooms, a Cherokee Purple tomato and a small delicata squash. Alas, no tarragon--nobody seems to have it this week.
Gonna take a deep dive into tech-support hell again: got home last night and found that the shows on theDirecTV w. coast HD feeds didn't record because I got a "721" error ("you are not subscribed to this channel"). ALL the e. & W. coast HD feed channels are "721-ing" me, even though I've been paying for and getting them for nearly 25 yrs. DirecTV and ATT's tech support pages are "experiencing a maintenance issue" and have been since last night (can't even log in). No live support techs on the phone last night either. (They're my last hope). Tried all the automated suggestions (having a signal re-sent, rebooting the box), to no avail. Wish me luck. (Had this issue less than a month ago with the Epix channel, which I'd also bought).
UPDATE: Well, all good things must come to an end. Seems the Federal law (STELAR) that permitted satellite providers to sell out-of-market network feeds to customers who have local networks' stations expired May 31; and Congress failed to renew it (understandably, as it has more pressing issues on its plate). So I have to get picky about what network shows I do and don't want to record on my satellite DVR, since it'll handle only 2 channels at a time. If I get a newer box, I will lose everything I've recorded--due to copyright protections put in place by studios, I can no longer transfer recorded shows to DVR nor even to a new box.

That has got to be frustrating, Sandy. I have Prime with Acorn (Brit) add-on, and Hulu. I am making my way through Handmaid's Tale. They could have de-emphasized the sex scenes without losing the sense of degradation of women, but the story itself is chilling. I can't watch too much of it at a time. But I am enjoying TV again. A 32 inch screen is not only better with dogs-- it is nice to be able to read the CC from across the room.
The gym is not very busy, many of the regulars are doing their work outside. I get some of the wipes on my hands and don't directly touch the equipment. I think there were only four people there while I was working out. Fifty minutes on recumbent bicycle, I actually got sweaty. Then went around the weight machines twice.
All the values on my bloodwork were within normal limits!!

Mary, another Mazel Tov on the bloodwork!
I am so relieved right now. I'd been on edge ever since yesterday, when my godson in Snohomish County, WA posted he had fever, nasal congestion & body aches. He & his wife got tested, and I could barely sleep. Then he posted tonight on Facebook that the tests were negative for COVID! (He will still hunker down for 2 weeks and get re-tested next week to be sure).
I have no moral right to be upset about losing my coastal sat feeds, as I do get local channels both on sat and antenna. But I really feel awful for rural people who live where cable companies refuse to come out and lay cable, who have no local network channels and can't get signal via antenna (like my recording engineer who lives on a southern IL farm out of antenna range of the St. Louis broadcast area and whose DirecTV feed doesn't even include local channels); not to mention RVers and long-haul truckers who live on the road and also have no access to local feeds.

MCBaker: My son gave me a subscription to Acorn TV as a birthday present after I mentioned several shows I got hooked on while in London. Love the mystery series they offer and the fact that they are commercial free. I have watched Welsh language shows that have closed captioning and found listening to the Welsh language interesting. Like the fact that the shows can originate in Australia, New Zealand, Scotland and other British provinces. So when there is nothing on the regular cable channels that I want to watch, I sign in to Acorn and watch at my leisure. I have asked him to renew the subscription this year.

Good morning, ladies. I went to the mall. It has been nearly a year since I was last there. I had fun! I bought a new mask.

Love the mask, petite. Rained overnight here. We needed some water on the ground but we will be muggy now for sure. I think more rain expected possibly through tomorrow. Just wow. Have to drive to Marion on Tues. so hope it is clear by then. Dh and I both have things needing attention. Time for my toenails to be cut and Dh has to have his glasses adjusted. Long drive for that but we don't seem to be able to find suitable people here for some of these things.
Hope you all have a good day.
Happy Father's Day today to my wonderful Dad. He was often tough in certain areas, but the love always shown right through making it easier for both of us. I look back knowing that he gave me such great aspirations and strong values and I've always been grateful that I had the fortune of his being my Dad.

Great mask, Petite.
Not sure who might catch the CBS Sunday Morning program. They had a feature on Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens). He discussed the production of a re-recording of the entire Tea for the Tillerman album and how songs on this album were apropos to today. There were a few snippets of him performing (Peace Train, Father and Son, Sad Lisa) and his voice sounded as good to me today as it did in the past. Father and Son is a particularly good one to think upon as we celebrate this Father's Day.

Missed that. I don't watch morning TV. Until a month ago I didn't watch much at all.
Went to the gym for an abbreviated workout. Didn't feel very good this morning. On two tries, my bp was 81/53 and 89/65. But after the gym, Tippy and I went out to the garden. He didn't help me this time. I did plenty of three-point reaches (from squat position, rock forward to put one arm out and on the ground to support body. Reach out with other arm and perform finger exercises. Repeat, reversing arms. Yoga, anyone?
I came in with a good quart of strawberries. I don't think I will use my strawberries for jam this year. Too much added sugar, and I have so much jam left over from last summer. Ran across directions for making leather in the newspaper, and I think I will try that.

CeliaC - I record it on the DVR. As a night owl I'm usually not up & functioning yet. But DVR it and I can catch it whenever, we thoroughly enjoy it.
MCBaker - I'd call you a jack of all trades! Making leather from an article in the paper, you're more crafty than me.
Hot as heck today. We celebrated father's day and the kids all getting out of school moving on up to the next grade. It was a good day. Hope you were all able to enjoy it.

Mary I'm worried that your BP was so low. Have you done an e-visit or tele-visit with your care team? Wow--your strawberry plants are really producing! Mine are only making leaves. But my black raspberry canes are beginning to blossom. I usually get half a gallon per season.
The strawberries I bought yesterday were a generous quart. Gotta freeze the bottom of the box before they rot. I hit Whole Foods en route home from brunch this aft. and picked up a half pint each of blackberries & blueberries too.

DS has blackberries with no thorns and only small seeds. I'm so jealous. I thought we had bought one last year, but I can't find it in the yard. DH has severe memory problems and often can't remember where he planted something. He has also lost names for a lot of herbs we're growing on our deck. He used to be able to smell it and tell what it was, but can't do that anymore.

Good morning, Ladies. It is Hot. I was in the pool most of Sunday afternoon. I tried wearing an old swimsuit and found the top would not stay in place with my altered breast sizes. I was alone, so it did matter unless a drone was flying over head. LOL
MC, I having been dealing with low BP, too. I am going to PCP for follow up and pick up a script for labs. He is checking thyroid. I have hypothyroidism and run low BP's. I also have a follow up appointment with the Derm. After all that a trip to the Vet for Miss Felix's arthritic pain medication and a trip to the pharmacy for my Arimidex.
I will finish my trips with a workout a the gym. That is a busy day.

Yeah, I have been monitoring my health closely in preparation for my annual PCP visit today. So far as I know, from my visits with onco, I have been having big problems with adequate hydration. We will see.
Cindy, strawberry leather. I need to get some parchment paper today.

Now off of the BP med. Increase in Gabapentin. Prescription for therapeutic pool exercise.
