Good morning, Ladies. It has been raining on and off since 1:00 this morning. I do not think the lanai ceiling will be finished today.

Nice morning here. This was great as we were able to go have an outdoor visit with our friend who is in the re-hab section of The Manor ( our local nursing home facility. It's actually quite nice. You have to do a little screening, and leave packages on the table in the first tent, and then go to the ten t your party is sitting in. Both they and you with a mask and 6 ft. apart. 30 minutes is all you get and they are pretty strict on that, but I know they can't pull their staff away too long. I am just grateful that we did get to see Judy.
There was a nice breeze with great temps -- maybe 74 or so. It could not have been better.
I hope you are all having a wonderful day. I am sorry for your rain petite since it seems it will slow down your work. Here's hoping the delay is not long.

My lastest edition of Cindy's old house - Wednesday we cleaned out gutters because I had water come in my back porch by the door during a downpour the day before. Rained like crazy that afternoon, and resoaked the door and indoor/outdoor rug. Cleaning gutters didn't solve anything. Had my cousin, a real Jack of all trades, take a look at it. He said I needed gutter hangers, to pull everything back in line - they were pulling off an aluminum piece that let water roll in. He showed me on Home Depot web page what I needed.
It was supposed to hit 95 yesterday, so as soon as I woke up I hurried to get out and get the hangers. Took 2nd trip to Depot because I needed a different bit for the screw head. By 11 AM I had put up 8 hangers, sweat half a gallon, and got everything put away.
We just had a downpour, it's too early for me to pat my own back HAHA, but no water came in. Storm Fay remnants going through tonight, some other storm later tomorrow, I'll know for sure if my effort paid off or was in vain.

The tropical storm moved quickly up the coast Friday and centered closer to New York and upstate. Here on Long Island, we awaited the heavy rain and high winds, but were actually spared out here on the Eastern End. It was breezy, gusty near the water, and rainfall was intermittent. I cleared my yard and deck of anything that could blow or be damaged. All is right where I left it.
The storms from the midwest will arrive in some form by Saturday night.
I had staggered visits this week from all 3 daughters and 6 grandkids who I have not seen since Dec/Jan. It has been a welcome break from the monotony! Everyone is well and has been quarantined. We are hoping that it stays that way for the family.
We spent time together dining outside, sitting at the beach, fishing, very brief shopping, playing games, and watching movies.
My oldest DD rented a house on the ocean road for a week. She leaves Sunday. I will miss them!New York is doing pretty well with statistics right now. I hope it stays that way. Things are pretty "normal" in our town. We want to travel; but with the new spikes, we may not.
I just retired, am in remission for a time, and really would like to revisit some favorite places. But if we don't, that's OK. I've done just about everything I have to or want to do in life...no regrets, no agenda. (I just want to get away for a few days or a week)
Jackie, I will be thinking of you this week as you prepare mentally and physically for your surgical procedure. I wish you a successful surgery and fast recovery.

Had a long talk on Zoom with my son yesterday afternoon. It was nice to see him. He has stripes in his sideburns, Hair long and braided on top, and shaved on the sides. Would have been truly weird when I was his age, but it actually looks pretty cool. He showed me his artwork, rather Lovecraftian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._P._Lovecraft), but that is the way his mind is now.
I got started reconstructing the cushions for my yard-chairs yesterday, better done quickly, before mold sets in. I made a mistake originally, and they got wet on the inside. Oilcloth, but I was lacking a bit, and was too lazy to look for what remained of the fabric I used for a raincoat for my dog.
I bought a printer at a garage sale yesterday, got it hooked up and working. Needed a new cartridge, though, only printed three sheets before it was done. Tomato cages, a big kettle, and a sleeve for wearing my phone. All in all, a nice haul.

Back porch stayed dry, I'm so happy to keep water out, you'd think I hit the lottery.
Tree guy, my 3rd contact, showed up unannounced, looked on his own and text me. He didn't see the tree I wanted taken down, focused on 2 others. He'll look again & give a quote. And today the form from the town, to remove the other trees, showed up in the mail. I'm on a tree roll!
On now to hang mini blinds. Cleaning old one saw cracked blind way up high, grabbed a new one at Lowe's for $7, thought easy out with the old & in w the new. Nope, new one is cordless and the brackets are different. Step ladder, and electric drill here I come!
Joan so glad you got some time with your family. MCBaker, I've heard a lot of women with sons mention long hair, beards, etc..on previously clean shaved sons. Now is the time! Petite, glad the ceiling is almost done and a cleaning lady coming to boot! I am my cleaning lady. 😉IllinoisLady, you're in my prayers.

Our rain didn't materialize here by the lake, but Bob said it was pouring down in Oak Lawn where he ate lunch (safe under a tent). Now predicted to start overnight and into tomorrow. So much for al fresco brunch. Will either make bacon & eggs or order out for delivery. Pizza tomorrow night: haven't had the real thing in ages, and even if all I do is eat the toppings and leave the crust, it'll be fine. (If I can't have real pizza crusts, I'm not so choosy about the style--NY, S. Side thin-crust tavern cut, deep-dish, Sicilian, Neapolitan, Roman al taglio--it's all toppings for me).
Spoke to the retinologist today, and he doubts it's ocular melanoma: asymptomatic, dark-hazel (almost brown) iris, wrong part of the choroid, no orange pigment, no fluid leakage, regular dome shape--as if it were a ding in the sclera itself. When I told him about the hemorrhage I had in that eye for a week after my cataract surgery, he said it could be scarring from that. Still, because of the size, he's calling the ocular oncologist to see if he can squeeze me in this week.

Well, the tropical storm moved out and left behind huge waves and impossibly high humidity. We had our last breezy, foggy but warm beach day with daughter and family who leave tomorrow for DC. I will miss the grandsons very much.

I've tried cauliflower crusts, but the ones (365) that taste good, actually hold up well and crisp up in the oven usually have some tapioca flour in them and are quite carby. The pure cauliflower ones I get at the health food store are hopelessly mushy no matter how I bake them. Quest makes a decent one that has cheese as a binder, but it's pretty small and a serving is 1/3 of a 10" pie.
After dinner, we watched Hamilton. We saw it in its Chicago "resident company" (long-term) production, from way up in the peanut gallery--murder on the knees, not enough time to get to the restroom and back before intermission was over. Highly recommend watching it on a decent-size flat-screen TV with good sound: the B'way performance that was filmed had multiple camera angles, including from overhead, and close-ups that not even those in front row seats could see. Sadly, other B'way productions (other than Kinky Boots, which isn't streaming) didn't have the backing to be filmed live that well before theaters went dark.

Good temps today ( 84 ) but humid. Drat!! It is a nice change though not to have the sun beating down and a 94 degree temp too. We will do okay. I have to have the real thing ( bad with the good ) on pizza. We usually get the thin flatbread crusts though. I love bread, but reg. pizza's just fill you up with too much. So we stuck with flatbread the minute they came out with it.
Got my hair done the other day at last. I decided to get a tight curly wash and wear in a longer style. She only cut off about an inch so there were three and a half left to perm. I feel like it's just right. And no curling iron needed -- just wash, towel dry, apply some big sexy hair foam for scrunching, and it is all done. Easier than any style I've had for a long time. She says I can wait for at least 8 wks. now for a cut. That will work for me.
It's a lazy Sunday, but I've been busy since I got up.

I have had a bonded pair of parakeets for years now. Recently the hen started laying eggs but seemed to lose interest and then abandon them. So after a few days I would toss them. Three weeks ago she laid 3 eggs (sequentially) and with this batch she decided to sit on them non-stop. This morning my DD heard chirping and we discovered a broken open egg and a naked chick under the hen. Both have taken turns feeding the newly hatched chick and the male has been overly attentive to the hen. So in spite of all that is going on, there is an occasional bright light. Who knew I would become a grandmother to a parakeet chick? LOL.
I hope for her sake this one makes it. She has been so dedicated to hatching this batch. Now we wait to see if the other two hatch in the next few days.

Unbelievably perfect weather yesterday & today (maybe all the way through Tues.). Mid-70s, dry, gentle breeze, no ozone. (Not sure about allergy counts--they don't do them on weekends). We are dining out at neighborhood patios whenever weather & time permit, in order to safely support the local restaurant economy.

The heat is on here -- but no problem, as so is our a/c. I only do a slight few things out of doors when it is hot and muggy so all will be fine. Bill paying day so I would not be spending much time outside anyway.

Stay hydrated in the heat. I am sitting here drinking a glass of coo! water after running errands in temps that ranged between 104 and 111 degrees F. Plan to stay in the a/c the rest of the day!

Beaverntx, That just sounds scary. Not a good idea to be out any more than necessary. It's 75 and sunny here with no rain predicted until Friday. We're getting a week of summer - finally.

Wren, fortunately I only had to go to two stores and was able to park fairly close to each so limited time in the direct sun. The good news is the freezer has been restocked, and we have fresh salad makings so we have dinner choices again.
