Good morning, Ladies. I woke up early, which is not my norm. Even the cats are still sleeping. Monday I have more labs and Thursday is my PCP visit. I haven't any plans for the weekend, so I will probably work on projects. I have one more jewelry box I want to refurbish. The completed ones have gone to a new home. I spoke too soon, my little black cat. Midnight Louie is awake and wants food. Hope everyone has a pleasant weekend.

Thank you Reader425 . I ordered the book. Looking forward to reading it. Will definitely keep your sister in my prayers.
ChiSandy I will get my script for a wig Tuesday. We have a wig shop in Brentwood TN that was highly recommended.
Petite1 hugs are great. Thank you
Will let everyone know how my port placement goes on Monday.

In this world, the optimists have it, not because they are always right, but because they are positive. Even when they are wrong they are positive, and that is the way of achievement, correction, improvement, and success. Educated, eye-open optimism pays. -David Landes

Starting back today to go to Sandoval for the cats. I enjoyed the few days off but there is comfort in routine -- and also daily comfort being able to love my furry friends to my heart's content. The one thing that is always nice when I get to interact with someone else's pets -- here we have so many rescues that it is sometimes difficult to give them un-divided attention --- but elsewhere with only one or two you are more assured that you are getting responses that are definite.
Lots to do but it will all come together as I reconfigure fitting things in around the twice daily cat visits.

Still no news on the biopsy, but ignorance is bliss (that's my story and I'm sticking with it). Yesterday a friend in Milwaukee from the pen collecting community called me. His girlfriend, who was probably the nation's premier expert on nibs, died suddenly in their driveway when they returned from the 2017 Chicago Pen Show (which I didn't attend because I was under the weather and didn't feel like buying any more pens). Turned out to have been a "berry" aneurysm in her brain, which was congenital and asymptomatic till it blew. (Same thing that felled a high-school friend and college sorority sister at only 31). In late July, I got a handwritten note from him, postmarked June 10. I wrote him back, and mentioned my OM dx. He called to see how I was doing, and we talked for over an hour. He is living alone, but his folks moved back to WI from FL and he helps out with maintenance for both their homes.
Feeling and seeing better today. My eye looks much more normal--the pupil is reacting much more than before the surgery (except that eye's iris is now mostly olive green rather than brownish-hazel). If I'm wearing my glasses, and you didn't know what to look for, you wouldn't notice the difference (including the slight residual bloodshot-ness).
Bob made it home for dinner, so we dined out on our deck--enjoying the lovely sunset and ignoring the deafening cicadas. I distracted Happy with his own wet food so he couldn't realize we were keeping him from mooching people-food in the dining room (or my lap). I will drive up to Evanston tomorrow evening to pick up BBQ from our favorite 'cue joint, which reopened after its owner passed away of COVID in May. (He was a liver-transplant patient and therefore immunocompromised). We will walk to brunch at noon. Wed. night's wine dinner should have fine outdoor-dining weather.

Sandy thinking of you as you wait. Glad to read of your fun meal adventures. I appreciate the info you shared on colon cancer re my sister. Thst is not certain at this point but I didn't like her surgeon's description of the biopsy sample he took. So thank you. I'll keep y'all updated.
Today was a nice quiet day of sleeping in, reading the Wall Street Journal ( love the weekend paper), puttering and knitting/ starting a pink baby blanket as I have 2 new grand- nieces coming due, one in November and the other in December. ♥️

Strength is a capacity for endurance. One of the dividends of suffering is the universal discovery the we possess a strength within us we never knew we had. Navigating through a difficult episode not only shows us that inner strength is there but convinces us it will always be there to serve us in the future. Overcoming gives us an assurance of personal confidence and value that far exceeds what we thought we possessed before our struggles began.

It's a pretty day out. Not nearly as warm as it has been. My friends have gone back to Colorado where it is hot, but not humid. Of course the humidity would settle down along with its getting cooler here now they are gone. In fact, this coming week -- looks like low 80's but it said to expect rain two days for sure and maybe more. Well, this time of year rain is welcome. The hot heat we have dries things out fast and the trees are looking a little tired and dusty and mowing the thinner grass it sure to kick up plenty of dust. I'm not crazy at all with the gray that comes with the rain, but we do need it.
Nothing much planned for the day -- trip to Buckhheits for water and a new cooling pad for the dog. Our big outing.
Hope you all have a good Sunday.

Reader, holding out hope that a hemicolectomy (with simple anastomosis, and not an ostomy) will be all your sister needs. An early stage in colon cancer can outweigh histology of the tumor cells. Here's hoping no lymph involvement and no spread beyond the originsl tumor site. Tell your sis she'd better have some big pockets to accommodate all of us jumping in.

It's a beautiful day here today. Sunny and not humid. The baby parakeet is now 7 weeks old and is nearly the same size as its parents. Think it might be a female but still to be determined. It pesters the parents for an occasional feeding but is pretty much independent in feedings. Hard to believe it went from this tiny little naked critter to a full-feathered one in such a short time. It has been fun to watch it develop. The top photo is with "Mom" (yes, the area above her nose is a light blue; Dad's is a much darker blue), the middle photo the "Baby" and the bottom photo "the newly hatched".

Betrayal, "Baby" is a good looking bird. Thanks for sharing his/her early birdhood with us.

The baby looks like a twin to the mother. That is just an incredible adventure and yes thank you very much for letting us be eavesdroppers to a wonderful ( great way to stoke sanity ) process of brand new baby to nearly adult size. We always loved having a bird to love ( he did learn to say Bobby is a turd bird ) but for some reason -- he never "went" anywhere but in his cage. Bobby seemed to enjoy talking -- it never too much coaching to get him started. He would be out of cage at supper time and often insisted on having some mashed potatoes with us.
Your birds are good looking and they seem quite content in their cage. Thanks again for sharing a truly neat experience.

The baby is beautiful. I have a parakeet, Alice and she is a beautiful bright green and yellow. I had parakeets for probably the last 30 years. I'll have to post a photo.

Whatever noble aims we may have, paths we may be on, or necessary efforts we may make, our only real freedom is to awaken now, this very instant, to the mystery and miracle of being, to the spacious awareness that we are. It is only this immediate awakening to the deepest levels of ourselves, to the conscious source that connects us all, that will enable us to experience and manifest real harmony, intelligence, kindness, love, and compassion in our lives and bring about the transformation in the world that we all wish for. -Dennis Lewis

Yes, cowgirl -- please do post photos of Alice. I think it is wonderful that we can have feathered friends to share life with on a daily basis. I don't think I would be a successful person with this now at my age -- and I'd also give my cats as well as any caged birds heart pounding flutters -- just not safe, but my parakeet as I was growing up was pure delight.
Not sure about the weather today, but we are starting into that cooler period. Every day there will be chances for rain. Most of that may be in Missouri ( we are about 75 miles to the east ) but it may keep us from having a lot of sun even if we don't get the rain. That helps a lot in making it feel cooler.
I hope you all have a marvelous Monday.

I keep up with reading posts but haven't felt the urge to chime in. Here in northern MN we're beginning to have some fall weather. Next weekend is the Labor Day celebration, the "last hoorah" at the resort signalling the end of summer. On Saturday there will be a potluck dinner with kareoke (sp?) afterwards. The resort owners represented by the managers (us) will supply the meat. We'll buy ribs and several of the men will cook them so it should be like a rib cook off.
Best wishes to those in the early stages of dealing with surgery and treatment.
Our next door neighbor, Lyman, a Vietnam vet, has just been diagnosed with lung cancer, which is a real downer. We're all hoping that his survival chances are good. He has a Pet Scan this week. His cancer is squamous cell. He has been a heavy smoker since a young age.
Happy Monday to all.

Good morning, ladies. An early morning storm has made it very steamy, today. I have more labs, but not much else going on until I see the PCP on Thursday. Wishing all of you in your stages of healing well. Love watching the bird grow.

Actually, I have now 4 parakeets: the parents who I purchased as a bonded pair about 5-6 years ago, their baby and "Blue" who used to belong to my DS and his family. The parents I always referred to as Frick and Frack because they "argue" and I will have to find a name for "Baby". Blue is a talker but limits it to "Dirty Birdy" and "Pretty Boy" with an occasional "Pretty Dirty". Blue is very social and is permitted out of the cage but supervised when he/she does. Thought to be a male when purchased by DS, but I think it is female and yes, females do talk. The parents have never adjusted to my attempts to hand training but I am working with the baby. So they are confined to a large cage but have lots of toys to play with and seem content.
I have 3 cats who occasionally watch the birds. The youngest cat will tempt the fates but with Blue being supervised, she will not have "lunch on the fly". LOL. One of the other was bitten by one of the parakeets when she got too close to the cage and avoids them now. The dog seems mesmerized by them and will stand at the cages for several minutes watching them. She seems to find them fascinating.

I'm still in Ohio helping my sister Gail with her broken hip and her disabled daughter. Last night was the first of five consecutive 11pm to 7am shifts. Staffing is a real problem, although frankly taking care of one person is a whole lot easier than working in a nursing home and having to take care of 6 people, but still it's hard to find good caregivers, especially with the Covid worries.
My nephew and is family came up on Saturday from Columbus for a (socially-distanced) visit. My great-niece gave me the Harry Potter house-sorting test, and it turns out that I'm a Hufflepuff. Here's a description of the typical Hufflepuff - pretty much on-point, in my case:
Students belonging to this house are known to be hard-working, friendly, loyal, honest and rather impartial. It may be that due to their values, Hufflepuffs are not as competitive as the other houses, and are more modest about their accomplishments. Hufflepuff is the most inclusive among the four houses; valuing hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play rather than a particular aptitude in its students.
Hufflepuffs are known to have a strong moral code, and a sense of right and wrong. Hufflepuffs are usually accepting of everyone. Students in Hufflepuff are known to value everyone and treat them as equals.
Gail has an appointment with her surgeon on Wednesday, and we're hoping she'll get the green light to get rid of her walker and graduate to a cane. I'm sure you all appreciate how much easier life will be for us once she gets rid of that bloody walker!

A friend is one to whom we may pour out the contents of our hearts, chaff and grain together, knowing that the gentlest of hands will sift it, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away. -Arabian saying

Good morning, Ladies. Another rainy morning. I have not been swimming or walking. I will be glad to have a nice day to do both. I haven't been to the gym as it has become crowded. They have started classes back up and no one is wearing masks. I am doing the best I can inside with my pedals, weights and videos. All labs are in and in normal range. PCP Thursday. Hope everyone has a pleasant day.

Overcast today, just like yesterday. So, we are still waiting for rain -- may or may not come. I'm anxious to get some. We need to settle the dust at least. Yesterday -- just when we thought there would be no change in the day the sun came out just before dark for about a half an hour. Well, we are in that slightly cooler time period so I guess I need to be happy -- even if I do think a bit less dust would be nice. So, I will make the decision to do that.
Nothing much planned other than a stop on the way home from Sandoval this afternoon. My cousin's garden has produced an over-abundance of tomatoes and cucumbers so she will gladly pass along to me some of the excess. I will more than gladly take it. Although we have lost a number of our trees in our almost 18 yrs. in this house -- there is still too much shade in our yard to have a real garden. I may try a small grape tomato plant on our deck this next Spring -- but results could be extremely iffy. Just have to try.
I hope you will all have a nice day. Betrayal -- that is one of my all time favorite quotes as well. We are rich when we have such good friends as that described.

Cloudy & cooler today, but may not get rain till evening, My zucchini plant is producing a plethora of blossoms...but still all male. (I think it is the spiritual heir to the old Little Rascals films' "He-Man Woman-Haters Club").

LovemyYorkies = hope chemo went well today. You will probably have a restless night - just go with it. It will even out.

Did rain gently this afternoon.
Yorkies, hope chemo treated you gently today. Rest up, and be careful about infection risk (skip the raw veggies for awhile).

taco1946. Had my treatments today. Very long day. Arrived at 8 for heart echo. Then to oncologist for labs and talk with him. Treatment started at 10 and I finally left at 4:30. Feeling good now. I guess it will hit later this week. Thankfully port insertion yesterday went well. I hope to go to North Indiana after my next treatment next Tuesday for5 days. Was there taking care of 98 yo father-in-law. Had to hire caregivers for him while we are down here taking care of me. He keeps asking, when I'm coming Back. Stubborn guy refuses to come here. Likes his farm. 🤩
Having trouble with incision healing. See plastic surgeon Thursday I don't think I'll get my first fill 😞 still burning numbness under left arm does this take a long time to go away?
Chi Sandy thanks for the tip I really don’t know what to expect I’ve always been healthy except for my weight.
But I’ve been stable obese for 20 years
Everyone have a great week

Chemo is cumulative so it may be a couple of times before you 'notice' anything that feels troublesome. That is how it worked for me. Still most of us here had some kind of chemo and you just do it because it is the best insurance for gaining a stable wellness. It will have perhaps those ups and downs, but there is something of a routine to it and you will get to know pretty much what to expect, when to expect it, how long it will be there and what it will take to get yourself as comfy as possible.
An interlude we go through so we can have what we hope becomes many long yrs. of wellness and a return to as much normalcy as you can ever get after this dx. It is wonderful to be well, feel well and know you are well. So you always have us crowding the pocket. None of us do this alone.
Got a bit of a chuckle out of your FIL. Stubborn -- that how he got to be 98 I bet.
Hugs to him and you.

Life is not a competition with others. In its truest sense it is rivalry with ourselves. We should each day seek to break the record of our yesterday. We should seek each day to live stronger, better, truer lives; each day to master some weakness of yesterday; each day to repair past follies; each day to surpass ourselves. This is, simply, progress. -C. Smith Sumner

Rainy yesterday, but just cloudy so far today. We in the 'don't quite know' no matter what the weather report says period. We have those kinds of times here. It will be cooler. I can appreciate that though later on we might feel some humidity. After being back home so long we don't feel the humidity as quickly or as intensely as some do. I do think that is party due to age as well.
Nothing big planned today -- just mainly the usual things. Making small progress but at least on-going on our home projects. It is slow going for now but hopefully will pick up a bit when we get some of the large things out of the way.
I hope you all have a fantastic day.
