We haven't had carpet since we bought this house in 2003. Here in this highly wooded area there are allergens enough. Almost all the house had carpet when we bought it. Had that ripped out and there is tile ( already here in the foyer ) and inlaid in one bedroom, both bathrooms, and the rest of the house has farmhouse planks ( laminate ). I keep throw rugs in various sizes and piles ( don't always use them ) for bad weather and sometimes some of the winter weather. Nothing so big that I have to send it out for cleaning. All can go into my machines here.

Also good for us since we have cats and dogs inside as well. Everything is sort of wash and wear that way. Sounds like a rigorous program you undergo ping-pong, but if it allows the virus to be kept at bay, worth it.

Whew !! Glad things went okay for you Carole. I hope that you won't have to face any more storms this season.

Nice day again here. Low 80's. We haven't had the furnace on ( a/c or heat ? for several days. Our propane bill will be higher this yr. due to the faulty installation of our new furnace a couple of yrs. ago. We got the advantage for only one yr. All last yr. before the new company came out and heavily re-worked the installation and outfitted our unit with some new parts we were showing high usage and not getting the new/energy efficient savings. Once we go thru this yr.'s cycle we will revert to better pricing. A bummer but we still feel fortunate. If not for this company I'm not sure we would have found people skilled enough to adequately trace ALL the issues of our poor installation which nearly ruined the furnace.

Hope you all have a great day.

Cindy, I have another suggestion for good sleep, that I forgot. I have a weighted blanket that I used last winter, and it works wonderfully. My bedroom is still too warm to use it yet. Here is the information from an authority: https://www.wpr.org/zorba-paster-insomnia-blankets...

The most expensive use plastic-coated chains. Mid-cost are those that have plastic beads. The least expensive are those that use glass beads-- I suspect sand, but I have not opened mine. I made a small one with plastic beads, It is not too difficult if you look up the construction method.

When you walk to the edge of all the light you have
and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown,
you must believe that one of two things will happen:
__ There will be something solid for you to stand upon,
__ or, you will be taught how to fly.

Going to be 83 today. Not too bad. Maybe some showers. I think I'd like a couple of 'soaker' types. I just had my car washed so I'd like to think it would maybe be enough to wash away the dust. Nothing special planned today.

The leaves are really turning now. One of those things that seems to happen almost overnight. We got very close to a front one night over a wk. ago and that set it all in motion. Still not quite ready, but then I never am. At least though we have the pleasure of the yard being full of deer looking for the acorns and other nut droppings from the trees. They do nibble on some of my plants, but by this time I usually don't care.

I hope you all have a great Sunday.

Thought I would share this photo of the buck who visited our birdfeeder. The does had been here about 30 minutes before so I think he was probably looking to make a connection. This is the first we have seen him this year. Lovely rack. I hope we get to see him again.

What a beautiful deer! I would love to have him visit my back yard but, unfortunately, most of the wooded areas have been replaced with houses in our neighborhood. Twenty some years ago when we first moved here we had several deer who appeared occasionally.

The conversation about sleeping reminded me that I went through a period of years when I ran an air purifier at night in the bedroom, mainly for the white noise. DH's snoring bothered me a lot in those years. Lately I have been using foam earplugs at night but---knock on wood---I sleep well and usually awaken once to go to the bathroom.

LOL Noises don't bother me at night. I can't even hear the air purifier out of my left ear!

I sleep really well, but now that I take Tamsulosin ( helps urine flow ) after my rt. kidney was taken, I sometimes will get up an extra time or two. It seems for now to be okay. I'm always afraid I'll have trouble going back to sleep but so far, so good. I don't think noises ( I can hear some with hearing aids out ) ever much wake me. They didn't before my hearing got iffy, but if I wake up -- I won't go back to sleep until I use the bathroom.

I love chamomile tea, but with ragweed allergies it's a no-no for me. If I drink tea at night, it'll be either peppermint or decaf orange-spice.

The movie premiere was indeed a private event: 10 people, masked & distanced (well, each couple sat together), in a theater that seats 300. We had the bar to ourselves too--but had to keep our masks on, lifting them only for each sip. Dined indoors (it was truly chilly after sunset) at Cellars with our BFFs--tables (only 2/3 of which were occupied at all) 12 ft. apart, everyone masked except per sip and bite. Not at all a hardship--and it was a joy to be with our friends, whom we hadn't seen in-person since New Year's Eve.

Dined out for brunch at Cellars' sidewalk today--warmed up enough today that long sleeves & light jacket were quite comfy.

Tomorrow morning is my "allergy challenge:" this is my last night w/o antihistamines (oral or optic). Itchy, itchy itchy--wanna scratch my throat through my ears & vice versa. Using artificial tears several times a day. Mold counts are high. Tuesday aft. is my followup chest CT.

When we got home last night, my "new" spare glasses (old frames, new Rx) from Warby Parker were on the porch. Put them on, and the difference was amazing: sharp & clear over the entirety of each lens--turns out they were able to get my R eye to 20/20 and L to 20/15. They're blue-light-blocking but not photochromic, so I had to wear my sunglasses (new Rx, wrong measurements but with larger, more forgiving lenses) outdoors today. The sunglasses' replacement (new Rx, right measurements) are set to arrive Tuesday. And amazingly, we got mail today--yup, on a Sunday! (Probably because tomorrow is National Former-Hero's-Toppled-Statues Day).

Great deer pictures. Our daughter in Maine has a doe and little one visit her regularly but she hasn't been able to get such close-up shots. Last year the doe had twins. Even though we are in a well developed suburb, we have coyotes, javelinas, and bobcats. Not nearly as interesting but scarier. Needless to say, Mutz only goes out with supervision.

Just spoke to my high school BFF. They're in Florida but we check in regularly. . She's urging me to try oral CBD oil for my arthritis. I'd appreciate any feedback on your experiences with it. Brand, where you get it, dosage, etc. Thanks. I tried the cream with no success.

Our "Arizona family" is back and we are looking forward to our weekly dinners and.a little bridge. We have spent holidays with them for years when they weren't off to be with their kids and grands. Looks pretty definite that it will just be the 4 of us this year. I miss Debbie but have no desire to get on a plane right now nor does she want to see us if we do.

Visit with primary tomorrow and get my second shingles shot and a flu shot. Then I think I'm through with doctor's visits until 2021.

    Stay safe everyone.

    I AM FURIOUS AND TERRIFIED!

The host of yesterday's movie (who is the director) just texted me an hour ago that he & his dad got tested (why, I'm not sure) and he just found out that he tested positive (his dad, with whom he's been living, tested negative). He was circulating around the bar and spent about 5 minutes across our table and had removed his mask temporarily. (I kept mine--a KN95--on, lifting it only for each sip of my drink and later, with our two BFFs at dinner, for each bite of food. Bob did the same--except he drank only outdoors, in front of the theater). But Gordy & Leslie went to dinner with the infected guy. They are even more terrified, as they spent much more time with him than we did. They're figuring out how, when & where to get tested. Nobody has symptoms, but that doesn't necessarily mean we're out of the woods. We did "elbow bump" hello & goodbye, though.

The kid is my retinologist's son--how the hell did he let himself get exposed??? Bob & I will get tested of course. I put in a call to page the allergist's NP, who is supposed to do my antibiotic-allergy "challenge" tomorrow, but I got called back by the on-call allergist, who will message the NP, speak to her in the morning, and then call me back.

When I e-checked-in earlier today (before I got that text) I answered all COVID questions truthfully: no symptoms in the past 24 hrs, no diagnosis in the past 2 weeks, no out-of-state travel in the past 2 weeks, no household contact "confirmed with COVID" or "who has symptoms and is awaiting a test or results." No question was asked, though, as to whether I encountered anyone outside my home who had a positive test. Bob is worried that an allergy test could affect my immune system (either impair or send it into overdrive), so I should cancel. I messaged my MO and asked if I should also cancel my chest CT on Tuesday.

Bob says he'd spent an hour, wearing a KN95, in the same room with a COVID patient at least once or twice since March. He thinks we're okay, but I am so worried about Gordy & Leslie.

And though we sat outside and wore masks at brunch, I'd better call Cellars and tell them what I just learned. We should probably cancel our winemaker dinner reservation for Thurs., unless we test negative twice this week.

Here I am, surviving breast cancer for five years, and putting myself through hell to treat an ocular melanoma in order to save my life--only to have it potentially ended by (irony of ironies) the son of the doctor who discovered the tumor.

"I am not going to get any sleep tonight" is the understatement of the decade. And could I have given it to our cats, who love to snuggle with me?

Sandy, Wishing you all the best. I don't think cats catch it very easily and certainly not if you're not coughing and sneezing at them. I would say your exposure was minimal, so good luck. Try to sleep - it's good for the immune system. Hugs.

The reason John (the host) & his dad Jim (the retinologist) got tested Friday was that one of Jim's staff's family members tested positive after having symptoms--so the whole office was tested, as were John, and Jim's girlfriend (who, BTW, is Bob's medical partner). I worry most about our son Gordy--who has asthma--and his girlfriend Leslie, who is obese. They had the longest and closest exposure (in fact, John sat next to Gordy, eating & drinking, during the whole movie) and are at higher risk. (My MO says Bob's & my only risk factor is age). John admits that earlier last week he went to the gym (!). One more reason why I'm still not setting foot in my gym (where I haven't been since last Dec.) even though I pay dues for it. So far, no fever (97.1), and my O2 sats are 99%. I'm getting a bit cranky though (because I haven't eaten since 2pm). No appetite. Will talk to Gordy when he gets off work at midnight (still works from home), and then take a full 1mg. Xanax in order to sleep. Bob says there is no reason for him not to go into his office or hospitals tomorrow.

Meanwhile, John is isolating (has his own room & bathroom). Amazingly, he is saying he should be non-contagious in plenty of time for Gordy's birthday party. Is he effing KIDDING??? He should have called the theater to cancel or reschedule as soon as he found out on Friday he'd have to be tested!

Good morning, ladies. It is 69 degrees and pleasant. I have not been on in a few days and so much to comment on. Carol, I am glad you are safe and Delta did not cause you any problems. I love the deer in the yard. We have an occasional deer sighting. Cindy, I like "Sleepy Time" tea. Sandy, Hoping you will test negative. Maggie, thanks for the positive vibes.

On my day off from "school" I'm up with the alarm for a handyman. He should be here any minute.

Its 46 here this morning, I hear our boiler running.

Sandy, you have been through worse. I know you will survive this.

Chamomile does not trigger my allergies. I am a beekeeper's daughter, and I was raised on honey. The broken-down particles of pollen in honey, year-round, serve to increase tolerance. Now mold and housedust are another situation.

Sandy, your being furious is justifiable given that John, knowing that he was tested, did not exercise safe behaviors. He should have avoided close contact with others. Poor judgment on his part and moments of unneccessary concern for those who had contact with him.

You are probably one of the strongest people I have encountered on this site, so my thoughts are positive that this will just be another small bump in the road for you. You have exhibited such strength with your ocular melanoma dx and tx. Hang in there.

Sandy, my daughter had covid and while she was waiting for test results I had to take her to the ER and back home as she was dehydrated. We both wore disposable masks. I did not come down with it nor did her cat who was her snuggle buddy throughout her ordeal. She was hit hard with gastrointestinal problems. Her doctor said he had seen quite a few patients having those symptoms. She is still trying to figure out how she caught it as she is very careful running her errands and knowing I'm in the age bracket with a couple of the underlying health concerns. I'm thinking positive thoughts for you as you seemed to have done all the right things.

Sandy - Here's hoping you and your family/friends are ok. You are indeed a very strong woman!

My sister-in-law, who has already had two other cancer surgeries (BC - mastectomy w/chemo & on AIs, clitoridectomy w/radiation & chemo - unrelated to BC) is going into the hospital tomorrow for removal of cancerous tumors. Surgery includes uterus removal, colon removal, etc., resulting in her using a colostomy bag for the remainder of her life. Of course, no one can travel to see her or assist my brother with her care. So, asking anyone who can to please pray for her. Thanks in advance!

Reader, a bite out of a plastic pumpkin?! I haven't put mine out because we are expecting some winds. Don't know how many times we've "rescued" some of them from the front yard!

Busy week of appointments this week. Physical therapy M-W-F for arm injuries (soft tissue, no fractures) and dental surgery to pull the broken tooth and replace two involved crowns. We are having good morning temps for taking a walk but I'm not ready until I am better healed from these results of the fall that ended my last walk! At least the bruises are healing.

Edited to complete the posting after I got the wrong key, again!
