Tried to do my Bar Show video last night, but Bob was helpless wielding the phone to take the video. Will have to DIY tonight--put the phone in the holder on the tripod, start the video running and then hit "play" for the scratch audio track. Awaiting the scratch audio track for the second video (a group # in which I don't have a solo but more choreography--such as it is).

Got COVID-tested (PCR) today--quicker & easier than I'd expected. The center is at a defrocked Mini dealership--big parking lot, 3-bay garage for in-person "intake," larger garage to line up cars for those w/o appts. Drove up to the gate, confirmed my appt., parked, walked to intake for confirmation of my ID & Insurance, then waited in my car. Tech came over & swabbed one nostril through the open window (deeper than the rapid tests I had pre-op, but not nearly as uncomfortable as I'd feared), then about 10 min. later the Phys. Asst. came over to review reason for testing (short exposure w/o symptoms, kinahurra), timetable for results (3-5 days, closer to 3), and quarantine instructions. If result is negative and I'm still asymptomatic, I'm free to go out into the world--to the limited extent I feel necessary. If positive or I develop symptoms, then quarantine either 10 days from onset of symptoms + 2 afebrile days sans Tylenol, or 14 days from exposure--ending only when no longer symptomatic and afebrile 2 days. Fingers crossed that I'm negative and remain feeling okay.

I have to have a covid test next week because the dental school I go to (University of California San Francisco) requires them if I am going to have dental work. I'm getting a crown and a filling next week. I love going to the dental school and I'm in the program for certification for dentists from other countries who have have to be accredited here. So no baby beginners working on me! I'm dreading, really dreading having the test but I have to have my dental work done. Ugh!

Not above 60's ( low ) today. So not crispy, but time to keep the furnace running. May have some more work coming in. Not sure how to try and fit it all in, but the funds it will provide will sure be nice. Will go early and care for some outdoor cats close to my house for a week or two and then of course, I'll continue going to Sandoval. In between I need to fit in some Dr. appts. for myself and being put to sleep on the 5th. of Nov. so the Dr. can look at my remaining kidney and ureter. Then the next day Dh's back surgery. We have the two little 5 wk. old kittens here that the mom didn't seem able to care for -- also going back on Monday after Sandoval to the lady who needs someone there while she has a bath. I clean up a bit while I'm waiting and feed her cats and clean their boxes -- so I'm liable to meet myself coming and going and trying -- but upside is I stay busy and not too much time to worry about things ( even the virus ) that cause grey hairs and need for Tums.

All in a days' work at they say. I hope you are all going to have a great day and that you get some nice sunshine to cheer you.

Raining here and in the mid-50's so I will use the day to sort through closet contents to do a purge. Had to finish dumping closet in MBR so they can dismantle closet system on Monday. Carpenters are slated to reinstall shutters on second floor, and install flooring in attic. Still have to sort out who will run new venting for bathroom exhaust fans. This week was a total wash since they did not schedule any restoration work and this is annoying because we are coming up to 1 year anniversary (of original damage) with a house that is far from close to completion. At this point I am hoping they are done by Christmas.

I did lose it yesterday when they called and told me a carpenter would be arriving in 20 minutes to dismantle the closet system and I told them that no one had scheduled this, so the closet was not completely empty. Nope, not happening and a 20 minute "heads-up" was not acceptable on any given day. This call was at 1 PM! So poor planning on their part, does not constitute an emergency on mine. Told the assistant they needed to communicate better because we make plans for when they are not here and we need more than a 20 minute notice. I also shared that we want the attic completed so we can move items in garage back there. We have literally run out of spaces where we can store "stuff" (contents of rooms/closets) and need to decompress. Once the attic is finished, they can complete the second floor MBR and bath, second and third bedrooms before starting any work on the first floor. I have no idea where they will store closet system while they finish MBR because there is no more room. So it most likely will go into the empty LR for now. They also have the basement to deal with and that needs to be done before they do the first floor. I am not replacing the granite floor in the foyer and then having them damage it during basement repairs.

So while I still have some patience left, I am going to start sorting through items I moved yesterday to the guest room (can't even tell there is a bed in there since it is piled high with clothing) for keep, donate, or purge. It will at least give me a temporary sense of completion.

Have a good day wherever you all are.

Betrayal - having been totally displaced for 3 months after a house fire, I truly understand your anger.

Most of you are talking about furnaces and we are still running our air conditioner. Arizona is still the right choice for us although would love to spend more time near our daughter and my sister in Maine in the summer. We've now officially had more days when it was over 100 degrees than it has been below it for a high and we broke records of over 110 too.

Have a good weekend, everyone. Our friends are back from Michigan and we have resumed our weekly dinners and a little bridge. Golf starts in another week after overseeing. So I guess I can stay out of trouble! Have a grant proposal for the food bank to finish this weekend.

I couldn't get on to this site yesterday. Not that I had any great news to share, but it annoyed me.

This morning my little grand niece had and upset stomach, I think she ate too much homemade chili yesterday that her aunt made special for her. She was up at 5 AM sick, her mom kept her home. When I got up I saw the text from her to go back to bed. I followed directions! It was after 9 when I finally got up.

Rained here all day, and cool too; 47 now. I caught up on DVR shows, online banking, credit card payment; it was nice not having school. More rain early tomorrow and high 51 but sunny. I could hunker down with a book and forget about yard work.

Betrayal - I hope you were ruthless with your purge, leaving room for some new items once your closet has been reinstalled. Some web site sent me tips - one said to hold the item in your hand and say/think - would you buy this again? Supposed to help us let go.

    Enjoy the weekend!

Our relationships are our sacred responsibilities, for they are the framework within which life is lived. They show us where we have more learning and loving to do. Our interactions with others call up the disabling beliefs and negative patterns of behavior we need to release—the cynicism, anger, resentment, and jealousy that block love's flow. Our relationships are our mirrors; they reflect where we are in consciousness .And if we are willing to face the truth about ourselves, our relationships offer the lessons that lead to our greatest transformation. -Susan L. Cool here this morning. I guess I will have to act on my words: "When it cools off, I'll go out into the yard and do some work." Hm. What was I thinking of, saying that? LOL.

Actually the yard doesn't look too bad thanks to the massive amount of pruning I did in the spring. But trees have grown back in flower beds and I will have to lop them off again. They're too entrenched in the soil to remove the roots. I will need to do some weeding too. The pine straw mulch does not prevent weeds popping up. I tell self the exercise is good for me but self isn't always convinced.

We met my sister and her husband at a seafood restaurant early last evening and had dinner/supper with them inside. We wore masks in to order at a counter, but couldn't wear them while eating, of course. Venturing out in this manner makes me uneasy but our governor has opened up to stage 3 thanks to Covid cases being fairly low.

Happy for you, Carole. Here, and especially in this senior living building, tensions are high. I just turned on my laptop to look for an alarm I can hook my scooter up to, since I am now keeping it in the community room so the cold weather won't kill the battery. I found it sitting out in the middle of the room the other day.

There is some kind of chemical you can paint on the stump of a scrub tree to kill it. I did a bunch of yard-work for Mom once, and it worked. Dad used to use it, and there was some left over.

My right hip pain has caused me to bear down on my right hiking-stick, and now I have serious pain in my right thumb and little finger. Will look weird, but maybe one cane and one hiking-stick? Growing old is no fun.

Windy here again today though it will get out to the 60's Not too far though. It is interesting to watch all those leaves moving ( not all falling off though ) so consistently to and fro. Just enough wind to keep the movement constant which is what is so neat to watch. I am truly not looking forward this yr. to all the changes. We will lose our almost invisibility to the outer road ( first one when you leave our lane and little bit of woods ) and people will find out we are here. We are just in back of the tree line, then our road, trees in our yard, and then our house. When I get my pictures put back on this from the other computer -- I will get the pics back of our house in the woods. It sure could use some updating, but that may never happen. We will see.

Mary that may look funny, but as we learn when we get older -- looks aren't everything, even though they had a big role at one time. Just what I thought when I got my first pr. of comfortable shoes. I wondered why I had waited so long because it was such a RIGHT thing to do. I knew all along though that I felt compelled to stay in the shoes 'everybody' wore because I still could, till I allowed myself to think of how many uncomfortable hours I had spent. It was a big hurdle, but oh the things that came afterward. Ditched the panty hose, the tight jeans, sleeveless blouses, and bikini undies. Sometimes life is just so good when you no longer have to prove anything, even to yourself.

Mary, Sending empathy. I've been using a cane since June. This week I started getting cramps in the hand holding the cane. My PT gave me some hand stretches, most of which I had already figured out. I'm trying to only use the cane outside right now so my hand can relax. They're right about old age not being for sissies.

Low 60s now, but wind is kicking up--good thing my Zyrtec & Nasalcrom kicked in because the pollens & mold spores will be blowing around like crazy. Will likely have the gutter-cleaning service out this week. Gonna venture out to Warby Parker soon to get my new frames adjusted...because I just found out that I tested NEGATVE!!! (PCR, not rapid antigen). But I'm no fool--will still have groceries delivered.

Downloaded and printed judge-retention-election recommendations today. Bob & I will fill out our ballots tonight and put them in the early-voting dropbox (official Chi Bd. of Elections, not any third-party) in the lobby of the Armory, our ward's early-voting site. Bob is considering in-person, but my feet & back aren't up to standing in line for >90 min., indoors or out.

With IL's positivity rate climbing (partly due to now including rapid-antigen test results, but mostly due to people letting their guard down indoors with friends & family) up to 5.1% yesterday (maybe higher by now), it feels like we're being stalked--and I don't know which roof the sniper is on.

I am seriously considering double-masking no matter what. And when we dine out now--even outdoors--we keep our masks on between bites & sips. Not gonna endanger us or others!!!

Sandy, It's great to hear your negative results. Too bad you had to have such a scare. I plan on being careful until a vaccine has proved effective - likely another year. Our neighborhood pricey store said they are planning to offer Thanksgiving dinners to pick up again and will have smaller meals available. I would rather do that than try to have a meal with family. One GS has roommates and the other is living on the army base. Nothing like having dinner with the entire US Army to feel unsafe.

Sandy, so glad your test was negative. Do you have to have a second one? I have heard that double masking prevents, or at least helps prevent, glasses fogging.

Wren, the military bases near us have cancelled their usual programs for community families to share T'day dinner with members of the military who cannot go home--will be offering a traditional dinner on each base instead. The cancellation was announced a good while ago. Don't know what the policy is for those who could go to family...

Gloomy day here today. Not raining, just looks like it should be. Good day to stay inside and do laundry.

I love Arizona's Permanent Early Voting List. Not only have I already mailed in my ballot, but have gone on line and been told my ballot signature had been verified and counting would start next week. I think the last time I voted on Election Day was 2008 - long line winding through an Independent Living dining room but not for the hours that folks are already waiting in some states. Now I would have to take my cane with the fold-down seat. And my mask, of course! A significant percentage of Arizonians have voted by mail in the past. Don't know if the will change this year or not. I have at least one friend who is afraid to mail her ballot and plans to drop it off at a Voting Center. Don't quite know how drop-off there works. I'm imagining a line again.

Another cool day here -- sweatshirt will be good. Sure glad I stocked my closet with some. Soon I'll be getting the others out and putting away most of the t-shirts. Lots of leaves on the ground. Hoping that we don't have too much wind today. I'm a little tired of it -- but then it is the iffy time of yr. here as we get into the deeper Fall time. Can't believe how fast the time is going. Much to do, but I know -- idle hands and so forth. It is good to be busy and happy. Hope all goes well for you Taco. We are so small here -- likely no line at all to vote and if one -- very small. We plan due to that ( we did talk about dropping off our ballots ) to just go and vote in person -- taking as many precautions as possible.

I hope you all have a great Sunday. Saying hi to everyone not posting. You are thought of very much.

I accomplished some of the needed yard work yesterday. It was a perfect day to be outdoors. Today will be hotter but I plan to venture out again. My sister mentioned that there was something to paint on stubs of unwanted trees to kill the trees. I'll have to research that.

    Happy Sunday.

This is a non-poisonous chemical way to kill tree stumps. Some of the poisons used include Roundup and glycophosphates which are also toxic to the environment. I don't know if this works but epsom salts are cheap and less toxic.

Sandy - great news on negative results!

We are across the street from our voting place, previously a volunteer fire house. We can judge when lines will be short, if any, based on car traffic. We'll double up masks and go in.

I spent the morning, over an hour, on the phone with Honeywell. The last Wi-Fi programmable thermostat we put in, I never hooked it up to Wi-Fi. By time I tried, codes needed to be put in. Long & short of it is: it works with the ap on my cell phone. Its whole purpose is to watch the NY house heat temps from FL. Won't need it until late Dec or early Jan, but I knew I couldn't wait until then to set it up.

It was beautiful yesterday, but out first real frost advisory in a while. Overnight hovering above freezing. I pulled in 2 beautiful geraniums to the back porch. I've over wintered some years ago, put them on top of fridge, may try it again.

Might do yard work - basically putting the bag on the mower to vacuum up the pine needles. They get slippery when too many lay on the lawn. We have got bring the hose into the garage too. Not a lot of work but you get plenty dirty playing with the bagger.

Enjoy the afternoon! Getting dark way too early.

I used to use Green Light "Stump Remover" & it was great. It accelerates the decomposition process. It's been awhile but I just checked the label. Says potassium nitrate and not harmful to surrounding plants.

Chilly and wet today--43 and showers. Mild (low 60s) yesterday--but the gale-force winds made it feel 20 degrees colder. Nonetheless, we dined in Cellars' tent last night--the fabric wall was a good windbreak, and leather jacket over sweatshirt helped. We might go back up into the 70s on Wed. & Thurs, but at the cost of more wind & showers. NOAA is forecasting "normal" winter temps, but excessive snow for this winter. So no Chiberia, just Snowmageddon. Good thing we have a great shovel guy--and will probably be forced to shelter inside anyway. Managed to get through a snowy March & even part of April all the way to a chilly start to June under lockdown this past spring--dress rehearsal for Pandemic Winter v. 2.0.

My "Real Bears Fans Wear Pink" long-sleeved tee worked again. Only regular-season game they lost thus far this year was when I wore neither it nor my Khalil Mack jersey.

Good thing I went to Warby Parker to have my new frames adjusted instead of going the DIY route. Even the optician managed to accidentally snap one of the temple arms; but he had another set of those frames in the stockroom, and they were perfect. BTW, I've never had a "fogging" problem when wearing a mask: I wash my glasses with dish soap, and wear them so that they hold the top of the mask in place.

We downloaded the Injustice Watch judicial-retention ratings--they don't endorse or disapprove per se, but rather post symbols next to each judge's name: scandals, negative ratings from other entities, former prosecutor/public defender, significant number of reversals on appeal, and appointees rather than elected judges. A sitting judge needs approval 65% of voters in order to be "retained" for another term. We'll use that to fill out our ballots at home, then I'll put them in the official Bd. of El. dropbox. That'd keep us from having to stand at the voting booth for upwards of 15 min.

Sandy, Do you rinse the dish soap off? Towel it dry? Let it dry on the lens?

I put one drop of the dish soap (I use Dawn Free) on the front of one lens, transfer it to the other and the reverse sides, gently but thoroughly smear to coat; then rinse under tepid running water until it first sudses up and then finally all suds are gone from both sides. Then I shake off the remaining drops of water and blot (not rub) dry with a microfiber lens cleaning cloth.

Good morning, Ladies. Sandy, glad it was negative.

A screw fell out of my new glasses. Between Lupus and Arimidex, I have no dexterity and will have to go Opti Mart to have them fix it. I will call them first incase an appointment is needed in the days of COVID. Miss Felix needs her cat thyroid meds refilled, so that is on the to do list for the day. The Vet is across from the library where early voting is starting today, so will probably get that done as well. Busy day.

Celebrating a birthday reminds us of the goodness of life, and in this spirit we really need to celebrate people's birthdays every day, by showing gratitude, kindness, forgiveness, gentleness, and affection. These are ways of saying: "It's good that you are alive; it's good that you are walking with me on this earth. Let's be glad and rejoice. This is the day God has made for us to be and to be together." -Henri J.M. Nouwen
