Good morning, ladies. One of the old lap tops is the first generation of HP. It might be worth something to a collector. The other is probably 15 years old. There was a computer shop, but I think it closed during COVID shut downs. We are rural and no Best Buy, but I guess I could do a road trip. I will do some calling around and find someplace to safely have them taken care of. DH has his follow up appointment with the neurologist tomorrow. I have a dentist appointment on Thursday.

We are all citizens of one world, we are all of one blood. To hate people because they were born in another country, because they speak a different language, or because they take a different view on this subject or that, is a great folly. Desist, I implore you, for we are all equally human. . . . Let us have but one end in view: the welfare of humanity. -Johann Amos Comenius

Many of our feelings of satisfaction or dissatisfaction have their roots in how we compare ourselves to others. When we compare ourselves to those who have more, we feel bad. When we compare ourselves to those who have less, we feel grateful. Even though the truth is we have exactly the same life either way, our feelings about our life can vary tremendously based on who we compare ourselves with. Compare yourself with those examples that are meaningful but that make you feel comfortable with who you are and what you have. -David Niven

Good morning to all. Another day with haze from wild fires. Air quality is not good for those with breathing issues.

Today is Wednesday, so dh will play golf with the men's league at nearby Eagle View golf course. I will go to the gym and afterwards to a supermarket for a few items.

Days without rain continue here while a rainy summer continues at home in Louisiana.

Good morning, ladies. Sunny now, rain this afternoon. DH neurology visit went well, except his BP was very high. He no longer needs to take all the headache medications, unless it starts again. The doctor will refer him to a renal doctor, because of the uncontrolled BP. The little tumor will be monitored by another MRI next year. He has a follow up visit in 6 weeks. I am so glad he is doing better.

    IllinoisLady, I like your quotes.

Long day today so I'm late. Had a date with the Podiatrist at Marion. Stopped at Culver's on the way home. We generally get the Wisconsin Burger Basket. I've tried some of the other food on the menu and I like most of it, but I think the buttered rye bread and cheese, plus grilled onions just keeps me going back most often to that one sandwich.

They also have ( only one ) a space right out beyond the front door, in the front row for veterans to park. I've never been there when I couldn't get into the space. Of course, I know there are a lot of veterans in the area -- guess since the parking lot has lots of close to the door spaces they don't feel the need to bother and just take the first space they see.

Good news petite. Always good I think to be able to d/c some medications. I respect the need at times for pharmaceutical assistance, but whatever your system can do on its own is best. Glad the headaches are better. Hopefully the renal work will get to the bottom of the blood pressure issue.

Hope the wildfires get controlled where you are Carole.

Culver's fried walleye is "da bomb," but I can't eat battered or breaded stuff anymore, We just got a Culver's in the city up in the Ravenswood neighborhood a couple of miles SW of us--no drive-through, but a walk-up window and indoor seating. They have baked fish with green beans, but why bother?

Got my roots touched up, hair deep-conditioned and ends trimmed today. First time since Feb.

We had only a little bit of drizzly showers this aft. but there was still water coming up from the basement floor drain by the washer-dryer. (Putting in a call to the plumber to rod it out tomorrow if we get through this unscathed). Storms on the way tonight, so had to buy some spare litterboxes, litter & liners to keep up here on the first & second floors should we get real flooding again in the basement like we did the day of our anniversary party (and we likely will). It's barely halfway through July, and this summer storm season is getting old. Possibility of severe weather (twister in eastern IA, headed our way)--but we can't take refuge in the basement if it floods. Best we can do is the top of the basement stairs (we have no windowless interior rooms on the first floor) and hope the boards on the side-door window hold up. And our housekeeper's basement always floods, so I may not see her tomorrow (after 10 days without her when she was on vacation till Monday).

After a rough winter, I never thought I would say that summer sucks, but....

Petite it's good to hear your husband is doing better.

Sandy I'm with you on summer sucks. I did get to finish my yard work on Sunday before the rain. Drained the pool a third time. It rained Monday, looked like it would on Tuesday - I stained two fence panels inside the garage (stored them there so dry to paint) and it poured again today with lots of thunder and lightening. A county across the Hudson river from us had a state of emergency due to flooding. Oh so sick of it. Tomorrow (Thurs) should be nice w/o rain, before it rains again for the next 5 days.

I saw the sports med surgeon on Monday. Good bad indifferent. The bone is not fractured, but the hamstring tendon is 90% detached - hanging on by a string he said. It will not heal on its own. Surgery is scheduled for August 10; I picked the date after our already paid for Cape Cod vacation is complete. He said to plan on 4-6 weeks of doing nothing before I can start PT. I'll be in a knee brace to keep the knee bent and not pull on or stretch the hamstring, and on crutches - toe touch only. Everything I've read sounds painful with very limited movement - the incision will be at the crease under my butt cheek. Biggest concern is how do I use a toilet? Dr said it won't be a problem. My sister said it won't be a problem because it's not his butt! Things I've read from others who had the surgery said you hover. Can't wait, not. Cross that craziness when I get there. Made it through BC surgery, I got this.

Thinking ahead that I'll be stuck doing nothing in recovery I purchased two paint by number pictures. They showed up today. I'll need good light, my glasses, and maybe a magnifying glass..oh and lots of patience! Worse case scenario they'll be Christmas gifts for others.

Hope everyone's weather settles down and we all stay safe.

So sorry to hear about your hamstring, Cindy. As someone who was 10 weeks in a hinged cast and non-weightbearing after open reduction/internal fixation surgery (not even "toe-touch," but using a "hippity-hop" non-wheeled walker when not in a wheelchair) for a shattered tibial plateau in 1996, may I suggest one of those frames with elevated seat that fits over the toilet? That will allow you to keep the surgical leg bent and perch yourself on the least-painful part of your keister. You could also pee standing, straddling the bowl and letting gravity do its thing. And the upside? Think of all the poundage you'll lose from constantly bench-pressing your body weight. (I dropped 3 dress sizes without changing my diet).

Cindy -- how many ways are there to say yikes !!! Then again, I will admit having cancer and surgeries etc. does give you much ability to grab onto stamina while finding work-arounds for what you are going through. Here's hoping an fingers crossed.

Weather -- we are all having to whatever degree the sort of rotten stuff. No rain for us the past couple days, but plenty of heat. Dh and I don't notice the humidity so much anymore as long as it is not in the " walking through a wet hot sponge " state. Fortunate that way, but we don't always get things done we'd like because better to stay feeling good and not do heat strokes.

Cindy, sorry to hear about your hamstring and the suggestion for the elevated toilet seat is a good one. You'll need to evaluate the distance between the wall and the toilet seat to ensure you can accommodate your leg in a knee brace. I know that in my powder room it was tight when I had the knee issue. I had to sit sideways on the seat because the immobilizer was so long. So estimate now and you made need to get a portable commode. Most of them have side rails which you could use to assist with hovering.

Weather here has been hot and muggy but cooler than last week. We were supposed to get thunderstorms last night but nothing happened. I will need to water the plants today since they dry out so quickly. Have a good day.

I am printing chapters upon chapters of math that I do not understand at all for my son. Presented a question of his to a math forum and found a maths prof in England who is willing to help-- in the Brit tradition.

Yesterday was very wet, and the park is flooded for the first time in two years. Tippy was upset because we couldn't take his usual route. We went walking only twice yesterday. He refused twice. I was afraid that he would have an accident, but can't see anything. He may have peed into the bathtub.

Nasty headache-- had a bit of it yesterday, and a bit today. Had it majorly both nights. Like someone drilling a hole in my skull. Changed the sheets. I think it was the weather.

Mary it probably was the weather. We've noticed headaches of varying degrees with the rolling storms. Hope it passes for you.

My bathroom is kind of tight nearest the toilet. But I have a window sill on one side and a radiator kind of behind to the side on the other that might give me hover support. I thought about a commode, and might look into it. My bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs.

Today I got the two rotted privacy fence panels down. Not really hard but labor intensive in high humidity. Not sure I've mentioned purchasing a mini battery operated chain saw for my partner. He hasn't used it yet, but I have twice! It came in handy with the doweled supports to the panel. Only one support was rotted, other 2 came out easy with the mini chain saw. I showered, ate lunch and watched my soap opera before the two of us hung the new ones. It looks very nice, making the other older but not rotting ones look bad. Such is life.

Then we had the pile of thirty 6' fence pickets and 6 back supports not knowing what the heck to do with it all. Ended up posting on Facebook asking others, now what? A friend said they'd take it for their fire pit. Within an hour he & his son were here, loaded and hauled it all away. Win win. So very happy it's gone.

Forecast for tomorrow calls for mostly dry with scattered showers. I hope it scatters away from us. Plans made to find the graves of friends and family at a local cemetery. They didn't keep good records in the 70's so only had actual section and plot for 1 out of 3. My sister's grandmother we called Nanny was buried by a big tree, which is now long gone. A gf who died before our senior year of high school was buried along a roadside I'm sure I'd remember. But all new houses went up and nothing looks remotely the same. I plan on cutting some hydrangeas for all 3 graves, just hope weather holds out.

Hope we all have a good Friday!

Happy Friday to all. I plan to take a walk this morning. I also plan to stuff a pork roast with garlic and chopped green onion seasoned with cayenne and get out the slow cooker to do the cooking.

The hot weather is back and the absence of rain continues.

Had quite the rain-storm and I do think more is on the way. It should let up this afternoon. We have puddles all over the yard. Hoping no obstructions on the road out of here. I do have a job today. It is a bit long, but that is okay.

I have to go to the bank if it is nice enough. I need some cash as I used all mine up. Carried money around for over a month and didn't need much -- then all at once. We have an appt. on Monday ( my town friend and me ) for haircuts. Will be nice to get that done. I doubt that I'll have much permanent left. Still mulling over a perm with hair shortened a bit more than we have been doing or not.

The pork roast sounds good Carole. I have kielbasa thawed, which we will have with sweet Bavarian Sauerkraut and mashed potatoes with a gr. vegetable.

Cindy, I think you should get a commode for upstairs or put a bed downstairs. We have the same arrangement and getting down the stairs in the middle of the night was a real bear. You might not need it the whole time, but at least at first it would be a benefit. Our senior center has a medical shed with things people can borrow as long as they need. I know we have had commodes in the past. I know of a couple of other places that have stuff to borrow, so no need to spend big bucks.

Great idea to make a picket fence go away.

Navigating steps with crutches is an acquired skill and not easily learned especially for short-term use. Going down steps on your butt with a full bladder will not be easy either. Mother Nature has decreed I must visit the john at 3 AM. So when I had the knee immobilizer I was using a walker and slept on the couch in the family room which is on the first floor. It was closer to the powder room with less risk of further injury. I would go upstairs to shower but tried to limit going upstairs to just once a day since climbing steps on butt is not fun nor is coming down that way either.

I second the suggestion to move the bed to the same floor as the bathroom. And since you have to keep that knee bent anyway, look into renting a "knee scooter." You rest the bent bad leg (shin side down) on the cushioned, propel with the good leg and steer with the handlebars.

I thought about the knee scooter but figure if I can’t put weight on the leg he probably wouldn’t let me kneel. A gf mom has a commode she said I could borrow. I ordered commode liners with absorbent pads, and plan to put it in the spare bedroom and make do. Because the incision will be at the crease of my keester, no going down on my butt anywhere.

In my head I’m waffling on even doing the surgery. It’s painful now but I’m able to do things. There is a FB group called promixal hamstring injuries or something similar in name. The recovery and pain associated, based on what I’ve read there, have me turning into a coward. Laying flat in bed, no sitting, for 2 to 6 weeks…I yi yi Lucy!

I called the surgeons office today to get an exact dx along with a copy of the MRI report. It will help me research more. Also, may different treatments by different surgeons. Some do hip/knee brace, some knee only, and some others no bracing at all. One of FB people is an ENT who believes it all depends on what they were taught, and that’s what they stick with.

I went out before 10 today to empty more water from the pool. I was shooting for 2” and then it started raining on in me. Between the impending surgery and the near constant rainy weather I’m trying not to get too down about it. This too shall pass.

The good news was I bought a new cell phone and it arrived a day earlier than they said. I was able to get to AT&T and get it all set up in less than 2 hours.

Hope you all had a good day.

We had rain yesterday. A shower that dropped 1/2 inch of nature's watering. Fortunately no high winds or hail. My flowers in big pots on the deck got a little battered but the grass and trees badly needed some watering.

I'm hoping to get some laundry done today.
