Started raining some time overnight and still going on this morning. The indoor/outdoor cats are all complaining because we won't let them go out. It appears it is not going to be a very nice day. I have a light day today -- just about an hour's work at my friend's house in town. Wondering what things are like for Carole. Didn't get to see weather for all over this morning, but just the very local forecast. I hope if there is rain that it will bring some of the temps down okay although right after there is more humidity. I'll be waiting for a dry out for us.

Hope you all have a good day.

Our weather has been pleasant for several days but is heating up for this weekend with highs in the 90's. The up side is that it usually cools off at night so that we can use fans instead of the a/c.

Except for setting up our booth at the farmers market tomorrow, we have no plans for the holiday weekend except to stay at home and avoid the traffic. There is a boat parade planned for Island Lake, our lake, but we will probably watch it from the dock. We sold our boat last summer.

Pretty nice looking day outside this a.m. after yesterday. It did stop raining yesterday so was able to get some running down easily carrying bills around town and to the post office. Using dh's compuer this morning. I took mine to the shop yesterday and will pick it up later. A couple of small glitches and I need him to show me how how to circumvent the Win 10 font system. I have the original font which is really hard on my eyes for some reason.

I was able to "fix" other things to my liking but somehow the font system on 10 keeps eluding me. I hope you all have a great Friday. We have no plans for the 4th. Just more opportunity to work on things we need to and though she hasn't said, Kate may have to work anyway.

Deep in the soul, below pain, below all the distraction of life, is a silence vast and grand--an infinite ocean of calm, which nothing can disturb; nature's own exceeding peace, which "passes understanding."
That which we seek with passionate longing, here and there, upward and outward; we find at last within ourselves.

Finally got my computer back. I still have a slight glitch which I don't understand but we will get it fixed one of these days. Till then I can use Facebook but have to do it carefully. I'm sort of exhausted by happy. Using Chrome as my default browser so have to learn how to deal with it. Sigh !!! Wasn't a bad day, just a long one for me. Not too hot, and the breeze had some coolness which certainly helped when we were outside. Hope we can do a couple of days here and not have any more rain for a bit.

I hope you all had a really nice day.

I'm just catching up. Sandy great that your anniversary party was held as planned. Weather all over has been crazy. Mary, I can't remember what it was you did but I remember thinking it was a lot! Illinoislady, you are always on the go.

High school graduation on 6/24 for grand nephew. We were extremely happy for him, a lot has been going on in his life and it hasn't been easy on him. Off to college in August.

School with my grand niece ended in 6/25. We went out for a celebration lunch and both over stuffed ourselves. But we deserved a celebration. She received a couple of awards, one for an average over 90, the other for personal growth. We're all happy.

6/26 was my birthday, small family gathering for pizza and cake. We had gone out to eat so much lately, we had left overs for 3 days. Weather had been ghastly hot for days, then it seemed to drop a little.

We left for Raleigh, North Carolina on Tuesday. One overnight on the road, arrived at step sons apartment Wednesday in time to celebrate his birthday. It's a great area we've never explored before. Super hot Wed & Thurs, then it rained today. So we explored the Museum of Natural Science, we could have spent all day. It is a free museum and we only had to pay for parking $2.00 an hour. Worth visiting.

Tomorrow is a flea market and a farmer's market on the agenda, as well as dinner out some place. Sunday for the 4th we will definitely take in fireworks and maybe picnic. We leave on Monday to head to Gettysburgh, PA - plan on 2 overnights so we can explore there without rushing around.

Back home in plenty of time for sports med Dr to go over my MRI. That appt is 7/12. My "sits" bone was bad at times doing local driving, too much using the brake so I braked with my left foot. Long distance I used cruise control and driving didn't cause any pain.

At home it was maybe a high of 60 vs 80 here today after the rainfall. Hoping our trip will be uneventful weather and otherwise.

Hoping you all have a safe and enjoyable 4th! HUGS

CindyNY, Good to hear from you. Happy birthday.

The morning begins with a rain storm. The thunder woke me up. I have stocked up on supplies should Elsa come our way. If weather permits, I will probably grill out for the 4th. I am thinking sausages (turkey) and baked beans. I hope everyone has a pleasant weekend.

Cindy, I was a school psychologist. My last job was in a very dysfunctional district, and I was at that time the single parent of two children. It ended in physical and emotional collapse and a lot of other stuff. Additionally, I have mild CP, so you can imagine the complexity of it.

Fine morning here so far. It shouldn't get too hot, but mainly shouldn't be humid today. So whatever we do outside should be fine. Still resting a bit after yesterday's long day. Will have catch-up work that went by the wayside while standing by on my computer fixes. Also I may do some extra cooking just so we don't have to do a lot of it during the long week-end. I will work on Monday as usual. I generally have worked holidays ( though the 4th. is Sunday, lots are taking Monday off ) a fair amount of my later/sr. working career so it doesn't bother me. Every day I get the privilege of being alive is like a holiday to me.

So nothing special planned. Just trying to make up and keep up. In some ways I guess we are always in something of a phase, in that way depending on what is going on in life at the time.

Hope all of you have good days all during the holiday period.

Happy 4th to all. Sunny here this morning but storms predicted for this afternoon and the next several days. Prediction is for 3 to 5 inches of rain between today and Wednesday. Could be a wet 4th, and perhaps a quieter neighborhood. Fireworks noise typically starts around 8:30pm and continues sporadically until after midnight! We simply stay in with the dogs.😊

Cindy, Just hearing you are in Raleigh made me hungry for shrimp & grits. Try it if you get a chance. Yum.

Everything is so dry here that fireworks are being cancelled. I hope people have sense and leave them alone. They are illegal in the city but people do them anyway. It probably cuts down on the noise some.

Nice weather here with days in the low 80's and lows in the 60's. I can do days as long as it gets cool at night.

Mary - how long since you retired. School Psych gets harder and harder every year, but I still enjoy it. A lot of my teammates are half my age and younger!!! I've been in my current district for 12 years. The one I was in prior for 15 years was so toxic the last few years - I look back and wonder how I put up with it. I go back and forth how much longer I want to work, but I don't know what I would do. I need to be busy.

    Happy birthday, Cindy.

We survived the heat yesterday as we participated in the Saturday farmers market. It wasn't a good day for sales, our poorest day this summer.

We've been invited to join a group of people riding on a big pontoon boat today in the Island Lake boat parade for the 4th. We've ridden in the parade the past four years. It doesn't last a long time since the lake isn't huge. I'll get out my sparkly red, white and blue earrings and tee shirt.

Long enough ago that the bad dreams ought to be easing up. Lately they have, so I am hoping. It was at the end-stage of transition to interventions must be explored before referral for testing. Something that I taught as a graduate assistant in the early eighties. My last district was one of the few that were holdouts. I was so burned out (don't ask me how I got there) that it developed into PTSD. Of course people stay at toxic jobs, just as they stay in toxic marriages. The heat turns up so slowly that being boiled to death is a distinct probability. I spent a long time writing about some of the toxicity present in American culture.

The family of parakeets got a new home yesterday and have moved on up to a penthouse in the sky. They still tend to congregate at the top but they have new toys to explore now that the trauma of catching them to move is over. No, they were not happy about being caught and my pinkie is still sore from mama's bites. The single parakeet (we tried to incorporate him but they were not welcoming at all) also got moved to a larger cage and is happy with his new environs and toys. While still in the old cage, my DS noted that one of the babies had draped itself across the basketball toy between the bar (holding the ball on a chain) and the backboard and was asleep. Of course, it woke when I took a picture but you can still see how it is draped. So funny and I had not seen this ever before. So I am posting pictures of it and their new "digs". It is 3 feet high so it is large and they can fly within the cage.

Not looking forward to the fireworks tonight because we are dog sitting for DS and have his 2 dogs here. One is a barker when she hears noises and being part beagle and part dachshund, it is the beagle voice we hear. Her coloring is more beagle (except for her ear color) but definitely a dachshund body. She is so low low slung that when we were in obedience classes the trainer used to tell me she wasn't sitting until another classmate affirmed that her butt was on the floor! I re-enforce her training while she is here and she hasn't forgotten what she learned.

Have a happy 4th and stay safe. image

Still loving seeing the parakeets and the accompanying information. I hope all the birds enjoy their new places and will get and be happy. They along with so many other species have interesting differences in their personalities and behaviors. I, of course observe this in our cats which are way more numerous here than is comfortable for us, but it is what it is. Even when really annoyed I find it hard to stay that way. Some one ( likely the birds may be like this too ) starts doing something cute and I get sorted of melted won again.

We are enjoying our day -- doing things slowly and not feeling any pressure to do anything at all.

Mary, I had PTSD from working as a travel agent. By the time I was in the red zone. After some time away, I went back to school and have a masters in counseling. Sometimes I have dreams that incorporate scenes and people from both places, but the travel agent part is always somewhat scary.

Happy 4th everyone. Carole, dig out those sparkles.

Hello everyone. I have a question for any of you who had chemo as an older patient. Did you have any issues with your heart rate increasing? Since I started AC, my resting heart rate has gone from 60-65 to the low 80s. Also, when I walk up or down the stairs, my heart rate goes over 100. This is concerning me a LOT, but my MO doesn't seem alarmed.

If you experienced this, how long did it take for your heart rate to return to normal after chemo was done? Thanks.

I know that there can be some nasty cardio side effects from Herceptin, but don't know if from regular chemo. Your whole body is under stress. Just take life in the slow lane while going through chemo and a while after.

Yes, Wren. We were living in Sioux City Iowa when an airplane went down. Many lives were saved, but for a while the loss of life was oppressive. I can just imagine being a travel agent in such a situation.

Betrayal, your 'keet family is beautiful. At one time I had a breeding pair of finches. Watching them care for their baby was one of those quiet joys that come into a person's life.

LW - I had both racing heart and really low blood counts from Adriamycin & Cytoxan. Instead of the 4 planned infusions, we pulled the plug at three. It was my understanding that Adriamycin can cause permanent heart damage, whereas the damage from Herceptin usually resolves itself. I hope you're having regular Echos. If so and your doc is monitoring and isn't alarmed, you're probably OK.

Good morning. We are under storm watch, storm warning Tues. and storm Weds. I trimmed a few low branches that I was worried about. We have friends on the water that will bring their vehicles over. They usually ride out the storm, since they live in a stilt house.

Echoes are worth it, but too expensive for most insurances to pay for it unless the possible complication is serious, irreversible and of high enough frequency to warrant it. Like colonoscopy.

Going to be hot and humid today. Lots of places closed yesterday and today the federal places will be closed. I have to go to the farm today but that is fine with me. We are not super big on holidays so it is all the same to me. I just don't like having to mainly wait to do any kind of banking business. I don't use the automated teller much. I prefer ( many friends there ) to go into the bank. So, it's okay. I'll have to try and fit in a trip to the bank tomorrow. Tues. have become busy and I stop in town and help my friend and then continue on out into the country to help another long time friend. She pays a little and it takes care of my gas plus, but does lengthen my Tues. I have Wed. off and most of the day on Thurs.

Hoping you all stay well from the storms with no issues.

Thanks Mary and -2! I'm having an AC infusion tomorrow and then a second echo-cardiogram on Wednesday. Since I have IBC I'm really wanting to finish the full chemo regimen but not at the expense of heart damage... such a quandary. Hopefully the echo will show no damage and I can relax a little.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. Illinoislady- I'd eat that cake! Betrayal, I love seeing those birds, and your cage is nice & large.

Raleigh - we did eat dinner out often but didn't get to a place with shrimp & grits! Thai food, bbq, and fried seafood. I love cheese grits with shrimp. So next trip we'll have to look for it. We also got into Durham for a Durham Bulls baseball game. Very nice stadium.

We are in Frederick, VA, where we spent the night. Unfortunately we are not staying to tour around Gettysburg due to weather forecast saying 98 today. We knew this when we were in Raleigh but hoped it would change. We'll get home today, which isn't a bad thing. Traffic yesterday was crazy.

On the 4th we ran to Culver's and I thought of you Illinoislady. It was delicious, and included a birthday hot fudge sundae - which we split. We went to fireworks at PNC arena but where we were parked didn't allow good viewing. We left soon after it started, heading to sons place we missed his exit and had a beautiful view of the fireworks! Saw the grand finale from an exit ramp.

Have a great day! Stay cool & for those by Elsa stay safe.
