Good day, if long, yesterday. Worked at the farm, went and got my hair cut. Came home and got some work done here and then Dh took me out to a restaurant I like to have a 46 yr. anniversary dinner. Today -- another work day. It is okay. I'll have Wednesday off to get caught up on my chores. Things are going slow here at home, but they are going. SIL is now here so we will work out something that hopefully will be able to get us going. There is no shortages of things to do and changes to make. Part of it is exciting but in the end it is all work. Nice when we can start seeing real inroads. We are still on the outer edges just yet.

Carole so glad you had some rain. We got ours too but will have a week of dry and increasingly warm temps. Don't much care for that part, but we are in July so it is expected.

Cindy I sure hope you can figure out whether to do your surgery and the best answers for afterwards if your choice is to go ahead. Sounds like a difficult decision pretty much. I know I'd be thinking about part being temporary ( the in-activity ) and then the relative freedom afterwards. I think I'd want to know that the final results would be worth what you have to give up -- but it does sort of sound like at some point it may become a necessity to do. Another factor to consider. Thinking of you and hoping.

Hi, Ladies. DH had his first kidney doctor appointment. She is young, very organized and had everything all together, even his old hospital record from when the HTN and CHF were first diagnosed. She has ordered labs and a kidney ultrasound, plus a new med. He is having a good day and nearly normal blood pressure. She stopped at Taco Bell for some snacks to take home. When did they stop making taco salad? I was wanting one. I had nachos instead. A lady in my neighborhood has some vintage jewelry she wants me to look at. That is my project for Weds.

The weather lady on the morning Fargo news diagnosed my symptoms this morning. Scratchy throat, chest pain, dry coughing--the bad air caused by smoke from Canadian and western fires. DH is even considering not playing golf today because the air quality is so poor. I was getting concerned about catching Covid despite two-shot vaccination.

Cindy, more hopes for a good outcome for you.

Happy anniversary, Jackie. I hope you enjoyed your restaurant meal.

    Wishing everyone a good Wednesday.

Nice day here, but getting warmer. Not to my liking but that is how it is. We are in the part of the yr. that starts to get hot though we have already had plenty of that. Hopefully, we will have some fluctuations.

Hope you all have a good day.

Getting warmer but it is okay. Dh is off to his physical therapy. I hope it will help him. He still does not stand up straight and I'm sure that contributes a lot to his back distress. Both his operations ( about a yr. apart and he is over a yr. out from the last operation ) should have helped him straighten up. I think though the first operation ( needed ) actually contributed to his lower vertebra collapsing. We still are not sure why there was such a long delay in getting proper authorization for the physical therapy. I also think he loses track easier of how much he does or doesn't do of exercise to help the predicament. Sure hoping it gets lots better for him.

Lots of thunder this morning for the last couple of hours, but no rain, as yet. Friday is laundry day. Load #1 is going. Cats and DH have been fed. Hope everyone has a pleasant day.

No rain today, but hot. Heat index will feel like 100 although the temp is listed as 94. Well, all my work will be inside. Had a busy morning so far and will soon go to work. Have to swallow some pills first ( need an empty stomach ) and then onto the empty store to feed the feral cats and leave something for the raccoons too. Otherwise they menace the cats enough to be able to take their food. Happens mainly in summer and is always a challenge.

Nothing special planned. Will have to warn sil not to try to take the final tree stump out ( he has removed two this week. ) because he is not used acclimatized to our heat index temps. and I do not thin k it is safe. Lots of things to do inside here. The rest of the summer season could be iffy but I'm hoping we go back to a bit better than this. It is harsh.

Hope you all have a good day and if you are in a warm area, be cautious.

We are still dealing with the restoration company that has not been physically present since March. We are pushing them to finish the basement first before they start the first floor. Objective being that once they finish first floor I can kick them out the front door and reclaim my home. There are so many other household projects that need to be done but they can not even be planned until they are gone. Such as someone to refinish front door which is in bad need of a coat of polyurethane.

The basement flooring I had told them about in March was not ordered then and now is in such short supply they projected October delivery. I was pissed that they dropped the ball on this, voiced my displeasure in no uncertain terms and then had to rush to find an alternative flooring. I did find one, they did have enough inventory but it would take 2-3 weeks to arrive from Tx so I called the project manager and read him the riot act about ordering immediately. The supplier said this stock is being depleted and they are just now resuming production so if I did not get it now, the wait could be many months. Originally it was to be a stone looking laminate (hard to find since most are woodlike) and now it will be a porcelain stone click and lock. Of course, it is more expensive but the restorer has to find the money, not me. Their failure to install gutters before the hurricane last summer resulted in the existing floor having to be totally replaced rather than just patched where original damage had occurred. Sad because I love the floor we are replacing.

It was cool enough yesterday with a good breeze for me to do some gardening. Not to say I did not work up a sweat but the breeze helped. I had a rhododendron that needed to be moved since it was blocking the window flower box I had installed. It was just a matter of moving it about 4 feet but our soil is very rocky. The rocks vary in size from pea size to boulders and of course the latter was at the bottom of the hole. My DS brought us a Costco order and ended up spending about 30 minutes getting the boulder out. My DGS was trying to help his Dad but at age 10 he mostly was a support person and gofer. So it has been replanted, the pachysandra restored and the other hole filled. I still have some plants to put in and may get them in today since the heat index is lower.

DH is having windshield replaced today after a stone chip is progressing to a good sized crack. He was complaining about the inspection stickers needing to be replaced and will talk to the installer about trying to save them. He was trying to postpone (he is a procrastinator which makes me crazy at times) replacing the windshield until next March 2022! Told him I would not ride in the car since the crack is on the passenger side. One year he was waiting for car batteries to go on sale so we ended up with one car in the garage with a dead battery and one in the driveway in front of the garage door also with a dead battery. Neither could be jump started! We had to cancel attending my friend's New Year's Eve party, where we were also to stay over, at the last minute. So now when he gets reslly pigheaded I remind him of that event that was a bust.

    Have a good day.

Jackie, just tell him it will help. I have been in and out of PT for years. It does help, but I know I will always have the root problems. PT keeps me on my feet, and without it I would have had to give up my dog. Of course, my dog is motivation for PT and daily walks. Consistent exercise and slow increase are difficult to maintain. Maybe a diary?

There are those who give little of the much they have--and they give it
for recognition and their hidden desire makes their gifts unwholesome.
And there are those who have little and give it all.
There are those believers in life and the bounty of life, and their coffer is never empty.
There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward.
And there are those who give with pain, and that pain is their baptism.
And there are those who give and know not pain in giving,
    nor do they seek joy, nor give with mindfulness of virtue;
They give as in yonder valley the myrtle breathes its fragrance into space.
Through the hands of such as these God speaks,
and from behind their eyes He smiles upon the earth.

More heat and humidity today. Heat index of 105. I had forgotten but read on the way here that the heat index is for the shade. It can feel much hotter out in the sun. Best not to be in the sun very long then. I am pretty sure we will all be in the nest few days. It is not going to be a lot better for at least a week or so. That is not going to be nice. I hope you all have a great day and stay cool.

Betrayal - you are a better person than me. I’m sure I’d have had to be medicated by now with all the house repairs still going on.

IllinoisLady - you get more done in a day than most. I hope the PT helps your husband.

Thursday we had beautiful weather. We were able to weed all the gardens. From all the rain many weeds were overgrown. But because of the rain they all were easy to pull out. Forgot to put the yard waste out to the curb, so Friday morning when I heard the truck I knew I couldn’t run for it. So next Thursday it will all go out.

Today was another beautiful day. We spent it with my niece & her daughter by the pool. I even stayed out in the screen house until 9. Only came in because I knew I had to shower.

Rain returns overnight, so I ran around with some more grass seed. Might as well take advantage of it.

Enjoy your night and I hope Sunday weather is better where you are than where I am.

I bought some kale seed to fill in on a bare spot in my garden. Went out this morning and broadcasted it. It immediately started raining. Around 6 pm I put more water on it. Peas are done. Green beans are starting. Tomatoes are not yet losing their green color. I have several peppers.

And I am going to have parsnips coming out of my ears. I have checked recipes, and they are good mashed with potatoes. I don't like mashed potatoes, but a bit of the sweetness form the parsnips may be all it takes to make me a fan of mashed potatoes. But I will mash them in their skins, I really can't stand the boxed ones.

Mary: I could use a little humor here. Could you please post a photo of you with those parsnips coming out your ears? That is one vegetable I don't think I have eaten but I do like to mash rutabagas and mix them in mashed potatoes. My DD also loves them. Haven't had them in awhile and now I want one. Usually eat them in fall and winter especially around Thanksgiving.

CindyNY: I am finding it difficult to remain civil with the project manager who recently told me "they had a lot of emergencies recently" and I reminded him mine was in November 2019 and still unresolved. He was silent for quite awhile. I did sic the insurance agent on him because he was calling monthly to ask about progress. Finally I told the insurance agent there had been none since March, they were ignoring emails and phone calls and he could stop calling since it was just upsetting to me. He should call them instead and light a fire under them so he did. The electrician who was scheduled to come this week, didn't and we received last minute notice he was unable to connect with the telephone guy to restore telephone service in MBR. So they rescheduled for next week and their list keeps growing. The bulbs in the exterior roof level lights have already blown and they are not even 9 months old. So is it the bulbs or the lights they installed? They are on timers so it is not like they are on for 24 hours. One patio light was done in by the tree strikes but the second was done in by the roofers and the lights have since been discontinued. Supposedly they were able to locate two so we will see. The siding guys broke the glass in my back door light but I just replaced it and the matching one by the patio door. I could not deal with having them order and install them. They decided to park on the lawn without asking for permission and ran over one of the decorative metal Malibu lights which are also difficult to find since they are now made of plastic. I am really not pleased with their organizing skills but the workmen have been topnotch except for breaking things. I am not paying for the items they broke, they are. I just want my house back to its former appearance.

Big thunderstorm, pouring rain and I think at least a couple of inches. We could see water making a path to the lake through our yard. Sigh!!! Betrayal, you are the soul of patience and likely help all of us here with that attribute. I do know you don't feel it a lot and I wouldn't either. I always fall back on the saying that has helped me through so many "situations" -- it is amazing what you can do when you have no choice. Our choice comes down pretty much to attitude. Sometimes all you can do is your best and the best may end in having to let it go pretty much. I am happy to hear that the workmen are good ( when they actually do the work ) because it helps going forward.

Nothing much planned on this rainy day. Not sure how long it will last ( the drizzles ) but we will return to heat and humidity and no rain till the end of the week when it sounds like we could have four days of what we just went through. Just wow !! I hope they are wrong although I also hope the intense heat and humidity settles down. Going to be interesting to see how this yr.'s Balloon Fest goes. We have usually heard a lot and gotten a schedule -- but so far not yet.

Hope you are all going to have a dry ( hopefully not too hot ) day.

kath, now parsnips mashed with carrots sounds delicious. Of course, they are related, so I imagine the flavors would mesh quite well. Mesh in this case is also similar to mash. All that I have ever had was in childhood was Mom would boil them, then brown them in a skillet with butter. I have also had a stew made with beef and all the root vegetables.

Betrayal, if I were in your shoes, I would have sold the mess a long time ago and walked away. In today's housing market that would work quite well. Probably too late now.

I think I have my sleep problem under control. When I wake up in the early morning, I stumble to the bathroom, and take a few extra pills. When I wake up at six to six-thirty, i get started with my day, but have an hour-long nap at around eight. I am then ready for the day! This morning I got up off of the sofa at 8:30 and put some treats down by the table, but Tippy had run to the bed because it was nap-time. I went to Mass, and came home for nap-time-- he was ready.

My ninety-year old neighbor came to the door with some cheerios that she won't eat. She told me that her family had bought her a new vacuum, and it will come next week. She asked me if I could come over then and help her get it up and running. She is blind, and needs some help reading anything. I have to get out my sharpie and print things in inch-tall letters when she needs help with things like that. She nearly cried, I told here that she has paid her dues, now is the time to accept help. She said that doesn't help.

Mary: I would have lost all equity in the house because I would have had to sell it under market value because it needs work. Houses in this area have been selling for record prices so buying another would have meant we would have to get a mortgage to be able to purchase and at our ages that is not happening. My DD and DSIL want to inherit this home since major improvements have been made on each level since we purchased it 35 years ago. I want it restored to its former glory and am willing to nag them to death to get it. Once gone, they will never be invited back. Some of it is due to Covid but not all and that is where I focus my communication. We also have 3/4 of an acre and most properties today are postage stamps like we had with our first house and to be honest, I prefer my neighbors at a distance. We found that fences do not make for good neighbors, but big lots do. In first house, the drunk behind us used to lob unripe peaches at our dog hitting him, until I lobbed one back at him and it was a direct hit. He never threw another unripe peach at him. No privacy was the issue as well.

So important -- to be mainly at peace with your decisions. I commend you Betrayal. Hmm, another hottie here, but at least the humidity they say will be down slightly, and that will be a help. Still doing catch-up. Starting to wonder -- what will I do if I ever catch up. Well, I think, do you ever really do that ?? I'm seriously thinking of just getting haircuts and no more perms much. maybe once or twice a yr. for the body. My daughter talked me into a dryer/fat brush in place of a regular blow dryer and I can see it would work better for me if I'm not too curly. I'm doing okay but still need a bit of work.

Hope everyone will have a good Monday as cool as possible.

IllinoisLady- I bought one of those tools,a brush that is also a dryer. Love it! I can style my hair as I dry it and I’m done. It makes my hair look like I’ve been to the hair stylist. I’ve noticed I need to do it when my hair is still pretty wet, heavily damp. If I wait too long and it starts to dry it doesn’t style as well. I wish you luck with it

I need a vacation. Since it's hot (80's) and our windows are open, we can hear people talking outside. Yesterday a small group of men talked nonstop all afternoon and evening. I thought it was next door, but it was 2 houses away. Today they started in again. I'm about ready to buy noise cancelling headphones. The other side of the house has people building 3 townhouses with the appropriate amount of hammering. I need some silence!
