Thanks for all the prayers. It is looking like they will be needed. This storm is going to do terrible damage.

Simply give others a bit of yourself; a thoughtful act, a helpful idea, a word of appreciation, a lift over a rough spot, a sense of understanding, a timely suggestion. You take something out of your mind, garnished in kindness out of your heart, and put it into the other person's mind and heart.

Warm today -- about the same as yesterday with of course the possibility of a shower or two. It will be cooler here tomorrow also, but more rain chances. Sigh !!! SIL is flying back to California, but hopefully won't stay too long. He has many projects going on here, but needs to reinforce how things are handled for his Mom. Sadly his siblings aren't filling it well, but he is entitled after 6 yrs. to have someone else take over much of what he has done. We will see how it goes.

In the process of selling off many of hubby's brothers possessions. He is the one that had the mental downfall ( really bad short-term memory issues ) and he now realizes he will not be returning to his home. Yesterday the Cadillac ( nearly new ) was sold back to the dealership. They had a huge demand going so a pretty fair price. The house and contents as well as two garages ( one with some pretty fancy work equipment ) will be next. It will be a relief for him not to be paying for all these things that are only a drain on his finances with no possibly of re-cooping since he can't go home again. The house though not the nicest is in a very desirable location and there are nice neighbors all around. In fact, one of them already wants to buy his house for one of their family members so that part should not be a problem.

Thinking of all of you and hoping for the best outcomes for health and weather issues so many are having at the time.

Every act has its effect. To do nothing is an act that stems from feelings of hopelessness and despair. Please remember, no matter how dark the future looks, you can make a difference. When you live the true life you were sent here to live, the difference you make will enhance life rather than destroy it. Do not spend time worrying how big a difference you make. Anything that enhances a life makes a difference; helping one individual recover from a broken heart; easing one person's pain; helping one ugly duckling discover his or her beauty. Keep working as long as you live, and live as long as you can, and when you finish your marathon they will hang a medal around your neck that says, "You Make a Difference."

Start of the week. Should bring down some of our humidity and high temps. That will be welcomed. Sounds like despite a whole lot of clean-up ( hoping people stayed safe ) and having power returned, that LA did not have levees lost.

I will likely have my date set today for my next scope. I already was able to see my most recent test results ( all normal it seemed ) so I will find out if this coming scope will be considered the first in a series of four or not. Anyway, I'm happy for the most part that the tests did not reveal ( the scope could show something though ) any bad cells. The FISH gets send to Utah while the hospital here does the other part -- so it indeed does should like I'll hear good news.

Hope you all have a great Monday.

Thank you, Wren. We had good news yesterday that all my family were ok and so is our house. The yard is a mess with tree branches and debris. We'll have to hire someone to clean it up so that it can be mowed. So thankful that the worse didn't happen for my family.

I have a hair appointment this morning.

It's easy to see and notice what we like in other people. Sometimes, it's not as easy to see the attributes and beauty in ourselves. It's good to see the beauty in others. But sometimes, take a moment and get excited when you notice what's beautiful in yourself, too.

So glad the news for you, especially since you are far away right now, was positive. I will still pray for all those who are displaced, or have other issues ( whatever they may be ) from Ida.

We are going to be okay after some truly pouring down rains yesterday. Thank goodness DIL got off to the airport yesterday and is safely in Ca. now. He mentioned that he really enjoyed his flight. Spirit apparently has smaller planes -- so just two seats on each side/aisle of the plane. It was really comfy he said and the price -- if you purchased the ticket ahead -- $40.00. I was amazed. Outside of all the issues going on, a great time to fly, if you dared. He pretty much had too. Still yet it seems getting a truck is not in the picture, but he did need to get back there and retrieve a lot of paper-work and other essentials like that so that he can continue on here in a better fashion.

Petite, I am still hoping your dh will find some relief and good answers for his current medical situation. I think I'm beginning to understand what the older generation meant when they sometimes have said getting old is hell.

Hope you all have a good day.

Carole, whew! So glad that you'll only need to have the debris removed from your yard. Could have been so much worse, I have friends in Carrolton, which being in the city is still without power. Hope they'll be okay.

    Carole, good news indeed!

I’m still braced but I get around well. Too much time with my leg down causes swelling in my ankle, no matter how many times I pump my ankle. I am able to sit on a wooden kitchen chair, with the purple gel cushion under me. I’ve started my paint by numbers, today will be the 4th color. It really makes the time go by.

Yesterday I ate a small bag of mixed nuts with cranberry and chocolate, thank you Trader Joe’s. Later putting on face cream, rubbing it around I noticed a sore spot in my mouth. I’m not sure if I got some nut up my gum but I flossed and brushed before bed, still sore today. I don’t want to add seeing a dentist to my near future. Maybe a salt water rinse a few times today and hope it’s gone by tomorrow.

Weather is much cooler than it had been. 64 now with rain expected this afternoon around 1-2. I’ve actually got my fuzzy robe on, and it feels so good. Bitter sweet because it’s my fall/winter robe.

Labor Day around the corner. Getting together with my partners brother and wife, on their way home from a vacation they’re staying in town to spread out the drive home. And another local couple we both know will have an easy meal of salad & pizza and beers. Small get together. Being I can’t do much it suits me fine. We usually labor around the house and yard like crazy people getting the last odd jobs completed. Not this year.

    Have a good Wednesday

Cindy, what a difference a yr. makes, huh !!! All for a good cause. Hope you have a really enjoyable get-together ( Labor Day ) with your family and friends. Hope you don't have to see the dentist either. Not fun. Hopefully that salt water takes care of it.

I may be able to skip the lady in town today. Her cleaning person is trying to get their earlier. That very late afternoons don't work with the heat and humidity we have had lately. Had more rain last night but it was I think a gentle, slower rain then the previous super downpour when we got caught out at my cousins.

Hope you all have a good day. Hoping LA continues to get all the help they can use.

Good morning, ladies. It is dark and rainy. I had to take my little calico in for a nail trim. She was a good cat. That was a relief, sometimes she is very grumpy with the staff.

It looks like Ida is continuing to make a disaster where ever it goes. Hopefully no one here suffered any loss.

IllinoisLady, DH had a telephone appointment with the neurologist on Monday. She advised on some vitamin supplements and scheduled an appointment for 6 months to follow up on the tumor. He hasn't heard anything on the referrals from the kidney doctor, as yet. My follow up with MO went well. I have a mamo and ultrasound on 10/15.

Overcast and most likely we will get more rain today. It has been hot and humid so I have been limiting time out of doors for the past few weeks. My left knee is still keeping me from being as mobile as I would normally be. I like summer so it is disappointing to not be able to garden this year. I have been pulling weeds in the beds close to the house but because we live on a steep hill, I've not been able to navigate to the lower beds so DH has been discovering how much work they require. The weeds have been rampant this year. The ones in the woods are over 15 inches tall or more.

There are woods dividing the properties here and we had several trees either fall during storms, one of which was putting pressure on another tree it was leaning on, one that wasn't ours but threatened our shed because it was hollow (and dying) that we had our tree people cut down and we also asked them to trim the tree that was leaning on the other to prevent a domino effect. The trees are mature and well over 50 feet high, either ashes (which are dying due to infestations) or tulip poplars. The neighbor behind us had his property lines surveyed and found that these downed trees belonged to him. He approached us about having trees removed on his property including these (they were partially on our property) and we were very glad to have him do it. We really could not see them due to our landscaping and the contours of our hill, but I am sure he could see them from his elevated deck. So they did a clear out yesterday and once we get some dry weather, I'll see how good a cleanup they did. Good firewood so I am sure they will be made into logs at some point.

Petite, I hope you DH gets some relief and answers soon.

    Have a nice day everyone.

Never allow anyone to rain on your parade and thus cast a pall of gloom and defeat on the entire day. Remember that no talent, no self-denial, no brains, no character, are required to set up in the fault-finding business. Nothing external can have any power over you unless you permit it. Your time is too precious to be sacrificed in wasted days combating the menial forces of hate, jealously, and envy. -Og Mandino

After several beautiful, perfect days, we're having rain today. So far it's a gentle rain that sounds nice on the camper roof. Thursday is the women's golf league, so it's rained out again as it was last Thursday.

I have some aches and twinges from yesterday's exercise class.

My good news is a report from neighbors that our power company, Cleco, is working along our street. Power will probably be restored within days.

Petite, it does look for sure like Ida is just making things miserable for people wherever it goes. I do hope that LA as well as everywhere else is able to overcome all of the devastation. Sure seems to be the global warming/climate change ( everyone calls it something different ) thing going on. Rt. now our weather is relatively stable, humidity going down as well as far cooler night time temps. All welcome. It is still fairly green here but I think it is mainly because despite some pretty toasty weather w/plenty of sun, it has continued to rain keeping our high water table well supplied. Still, we have nuts falling out of the trees and a few leaves falling. Very slow progression right now, but like many we are not sure how the Fall will be behaving.

Hope you all have a good day. Will be slow here.

We have a black walnut tree that drops hard green coated nuts at this time of year. One recently bonked my DSIL on the head surprising him and he said it really hurt. Normally I just hear them hit the roof and once on the ground the squirrels make fast work of them.

We had a deluge when Ida went through on Wednesday. Luckily now that we have gutters on the house, unlike during Isaias when we did not, the gutters fed the rain into our underground water mitigation system and we had no water in our basement. The basement is still awaiting restoration from both the initial tree strike and last years hurricane which really did most of the damage. The flooring is to be delivered soon after waiting for it to be shipped from Dallas, TX. The floor we had originally chosen was out of stock and with delivery predicted for late October, early November at the earliest, I said "no" and went shopping again. This one cost nearly twice as much but it will not cost us anything, the restoration company will bear the cost since they failed to replace the gutters.

However, our area had several tornados and they did significant damage in both PA and NJ. They are not storms we normally see in this area so if someone wants to tell me we are not experiencing climate change I will beg to differ with them. A hurricane in 1957 flooded the basement of my parents home and I can remember being evacuated from the house by boat. One of the neighbors was rowing around saving rabbits and snakes from the flood waters (no he did not get bit since they were mostly garter snakes) and other animal rescues. We had to stay with family friends until the Delaware receded. My parents lived nearly a mile from the river and the water did come up pretty fast. Both PA and NJ are also experiencing severe flooding damage. The creek that runs through my yard overflowed its banks as well and the road was covered. However, we still had people drive through the water and risk their lives. I do not understand why people are so stupid at times.

Today we have sun and hopefully things will dry up. It has been cooler and less humid since Wednesday so that is a blessing. Have a good day.

Perhaps losing integrity with yourself is the greatest stress of all, far more hurtful to us than competition, time pressure, or lack of respect. Our vitality is rooted in our integrity. When we do not live in one piece, our life force becomes divided. Becoming separated from our authentic values may weaken us.

Betrayal, I am with you. I don't understand people who so often ignore advice meant to save them personally and financially. Someone saying you should NOT do something almost seems to bring on a challenge and then 'great/suspect' reasons are found as to why you need to 'resist' authority. We are sometimes strange human beings.

Good news about the gutters. It sounds like ( despite being w/o the basement flooring as yet ) things are working as they should. Hope these things don't take too long.

We should be okay here, heat and humidity wise. Nice to have things a bit more normal, but because we are having 'global' changes, who knows what may yet come. Hopefully we will do all right.

Hoping you all have a great Friday.

If someone in November of 2019 told me that my house would still not have total restoration by September of 2021, I would have called them a liar or worse. However, here we are in September of 2021 and I still have work on all three levels of my house that need completion, the largest being the basement and the first floor livingroom and foyer. I am so glad I bought replacement underwear the day after the tree strike because going commando (and braless) for this long would have upset my sense of dignity. I left the house in my DH's sweatsuit, the one pair of underwear that were not contaminated by insulation from the attic and a pair of slip on sneakers (no socks). The nightgown I had on was coated with insulation as was I when the attic collapsed over the bed in which I was asleep. I quickly took a shower to get it off and tossed my nightgown. I had to buy clothes to return to work both casual for lab and dressier for lectures since insulation got into the closet as well. These clothes have been at the cleaners since then so once they are returned I will feel like I have a new wardrobe. Of course, I retired in December of 2019 so I will most likely not need as many of the dressier clothes and they can go to another home where they might be of some use. Shoes also were sent to the cleaners and I have since purged most of the heels I used to wear so I have space for those being returned which will also be sorted for keep or donate.

Someday my home will be done.

Betrayal - patience of a saint! Glad you suffered no additional issues due to water. Gutters are doing their job.

I didn’t need to go to a dentist. I gargled w salt water and ACT mouthwash. Whatever it was was gone by yesterday morning. Relief!

I’m down to 3 colors left to do on my paint by numbers. And the audible book is up to chapter 29. I believe both will be finished tomorrow. I’ve got another paint by number and another audible book, after that I’m hoping PT moves me along so I’m out walking or at least not stuck in this house. I can’t drive until 9/15. That’s when I’ll take myself to PT. Oh the things I look forward too!! All mundane things I took for granted.

It’s been overcast with bursts of sun today. High of 71 I think. Weather doesn’t look warm for the 10 day forecast. Weatherman said we’re 10 degrees below normal. I hoping for an Indian summer later this year. I still have some garden clean up I hope to get to.

Enjoy the rest of the day

Spoke to my cousin in northern Westchester--despite living halfway up a hill, she lost one of her cars and everything in her fully-furnished finished basement (gym, wine cellar, media room, guest bedroom furniture). Everyone in her area got flooded--they all have pools, but none had yet been drained for the season because it was still so hot out. The waters settled on to the Saw Mill River Pky., which flooded several feet deep almost to the bottoms of overhead signs. But in the city, 11 people drowned in their (illegal) basement apts--the only housing they could afford. (There are at least 10,000 of those in the 4 outer boroughs, especially Queens).

Our gutter guy still hasn't been out to inspect the gutter corners that the neighbor's tree bent when it fell on the front of our house in June. (Said tree has since been removed).

The single most empowering thing we can do for ourselves is to transform fear. While fear contains tremendous power, it doesn't propel us forward and upward, but, rather, drags us down and chains us to the past. Freeing ourselves from fear is a loving intention because, as fear subsides, we are better able to access the soft, sweet power of our hearts, which naturally leads to loving ourselves and others more freely and completely. -Sue Patton Thoele

Likely rain today but I sure hope none of it gets all the way to Chicago. It will be humid but the temp. won't be that high so we should do okay. Hard to hear about the loss of life in areas where some massive flooding is normally not expected. I would suppose that most thought Ida would have lost enough power upon reaching the farther areas from the LA coast. Guess no one thought about the deluge of water that would be carried forward. All there are in my thoughts for sure.

Nothing special otherwise here today. Hope you all have a good Saturday and looking forward to a good 'Labor' Day on Monday.

My SIL got out of the hospital after 2 weeks on Friday. He sounds great.

Yesterday was our 44th wedding anniversary!

Best get cooking and baking for Rosh Hashanna (and some things for the freezer for later holidays in 2 weeks. DH is smoking a brkset, chicken things and a small turkey breast. We will freeze half the brisket and all the thighs. We will eat the turkey breast Sunday night, brisket Tuesday and Salmon on Wednesday. I've scaled back so much from what I used to cook. For RH there are 3 of us and for the other holidays 4 as DD#1 arrives the 13th for 3 weeks. Hoping DD#2 will come for a few days. DD#2 hasn't seen either of her siblings in 2 years.

Have a great Sunday and Labor Day.
