Sandy, I suspect the mask mandates in NO are "in name only." Our niece from Indiana and her dh, teenage daughter and French exchange student were in the city a couple of weeks ago to embark on a cruise. They said nobody was wearing masks anywhere, including in their hotel.

We met them at Mandina's on Canal Street for dinner. When I made the reservation, I asked whether we should bring proof of vaccination and was given an evasive answer which amounted to "Don't worry about it." No one mentioned vaccination when we entered and were seated.

I just read an article on good places to buy/eat muffaletta sandwiches and Napoleon House was on the list.

I have a hair appointment at 10:15 and the weather is "iffy." We're under tornado watch and there's a chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Good morning. I had so much to catch up on. I guess I have not been on for several days. Sandy, my husband has a 34" pant leg and it is hard to find. He is 14 inches taller and calls me a hobbit. The last gown I bought was before BC and I had it professionally altered and it fit beautifully. I was pleased with the results. So many gowns in my size look like prom dresses, if I can find my size. Masks are fading away around here. The Vet's office is no longer requiring them. The doctor's offices still do. We had a visit from our grand nephew and his wife. It was a most pleasant day.

Deep inside, our integrity sings to us whether we are listening or not. It is a note that only we can hear. Eventually, when life makes us ready to listen, it will help us to find our way home.

Beautiful sunshine this afternoon but when I left for the hospital this early a.m. it was raining. Grrr. Had my scope. Dr. B found a lesion he didn't like so I will likely have to see if a clearance is possible to go completely under -- today was just local. Never had a local before and it was interesting. I didn't have my hearing aids in so couldn't completely follow.

Getting clearance sounds like it will take some time, but in the meantime -- I do have things to do. I have appt. with the hospital nutritionist for over the phone. We will solidify plans to get me into the cardiac re-hab -- at my pace which will be a bit slow at first, I think. Too soon right now to see any results from the iron I'm getting. I have though felt pretty well since coming home from the hospital -- so thinking and crossing my fingers that the new meds plus will get me going in the right direction. I hope everyone had a really good day.

Grrrr, another rainy morning, like yesterday. I am hoping this afternoon might be as nice as yesterday's afternoon. Despite what I thought would be an all day affair the sun was out strong and bright. So -- maybe.

Nothing much planned today other than the planned phone visit with the Marion V.A. nutritionist. I've gone to so many classes in the past, but the difference is, most of them were general for the most part with some emphasis on wt. loss. I never needed at the time to pay attention to something like a low-sodium diet -- so I didn't. So some re-education will have to take place. One of the biggest benefits of signing on is that I will be able to get great advice on what to actually look for and buy at our local stores. It is not so much being lazy -- eventually I'd figure it all out, but I have a family to care for and I can't research everyday for many of the answers I can get in one conversation. I did already find -- Boar's Head is a good brand of meat if you are looking for low sodium. There are now low brands of ketchup -- I'm using one and p-nut butter etc. I don't mind doing some of my own leg-work, but much quicker to get on the right track if someone just says.

Due to my slow start here ( with anemia not being picked up very fast ) I need to move forward with some things at a faster pace if possible. Much better this a.m. after the procedure yesterday. Great talk with my PCP -- she is such a cheer-leader for me. Great when you feel some one cares deeply about your welfare. Others definitely have noticed her devotion to her patients. Hope you all have a rain-free day. Sun if possible.

DH just left to go and play golf. He had a good round last Friday. His score was the same as his age, 82. He came home pleased. I was/am happy for him.

Nothing planned for today except exercise class at the gym. Before that, my usual household chores plus some extra. For a while my younger sister Michelle was coming to the M W F exercise class but she has been missing lately, with one excuse or another. It was fun to have her there. I won't be surprised if she drops the gym membership when we go to MN for the summer.

Hope everyone has a good Wednesday.

It is hot here. After my walk I even went in the pool for 1 second, it was 70 degrees in the pool. Rain for Thursday and cooler Friday. Not much going on for me. That is OK.

Was signed in and just lost a lengthy post that I am unwilling to attempt again. I will be so glad when they finally get this site running properly. It has been weeks in the making and to be honest, it still takes forever to load a page, I am tired of the constant popup telling us it is a work in progress as you move from forum to forum (don't need to be told repeatedly) and the print contrast has shown no improvement nor have the wide left margins been fixed. I think the company doing this is not competent to complete the project and I am hoping they are not being paid for doing this. So moderators if you are listening, when can we expect this project to be corrected and running properly?

Mods - I second what betrayal is saying above. I hope this company is not being paid for their incompetence. Payments should be withheld. Publicity about their incompetence- others in the industry should know they can’t complete a project. I hope penalties were written into the contract so that BC.org has recourse.

I just went to look for my paperwork on the booster shot. I can’t locate it. So I’m not sure if I had a full or half dose.

It was hot as heck again today. I went out with the ladies for lunch. A nice place overlooking the water by Sanibel island. Before the sun set I was able to get landscaping material down and 4 bags of rocks down in my garden. I still was sweating like crazy. I’ve still got 6 more bags for the other side of the garden.

Yesterday we, more partner than me, dug out 2 dead shrubs and replaced them with good size azaleas. I thought we’d die in the heat. It was 91 and felt like 96. Today I got to see the irrigation sprinkler go off and fortunately both new plants get water.

We’ve got company for the next few days and then again after he leaves. Then we leave in about 5 weeks. So we’ve got to get any projects done sooner than later.

May we all get our projects done, at whatever pace we deem good enough for us!

Looking good outside today. Means plenty of sun. Hope it lasts all day. Had a good day yesterday -- productive. I was pooped, but felt good about finally having gotten all the paperwork in one place that I've gotten from the Nov. operation. That and a whole lot of throw-away materials.

The V.A. will take my bills ( the V.A. should be paying -- I don't do anything on my on and always wait till I get a consult window) and figure them out and send appropriate letters to whomever is attempting to bill me, put me in collections or whatever has been going on. It's hard to make progress when you are being hounded a bit. So -- I was told to take everything to the V.A. in Mt. Vernon and leave it with them. They will deal with all of it. Whew !!!

Today I will hopefully have time to start digesting the book that came with my exercise equipment. It is fairly lge. but I'm an avid reader in general so I don't expect to have any issues. Hopefully, lots of nearly new materials that will help me understand my condition/s and how to be fruitful in caring for myself.

Watching a husband and wife team out beyond my window this morning. Male and female Cardinals. Their is a fir bush ( actually several ) out there and they like to make nests there. The red coloring of the male is so pretty against the green of the fir. It is our county bird --just beautiful. The male and female mate for life as well.

Hope you all have a great day.

The dose for the Pfizer vaccine was 0.3 mL and I have received that for all 4 doses. Why they are calling it a booster I do not know because we do not call annual Flu shots a "booster" and yes, they are different configurations each year to account for this year's circulating strains. Also to me, a "jab" is a poke in the ribs, not an inoculation in my arm. "Jab" is British speak for an injection and as a retired RN, I have given probably a thousand or more injections, so I'll stick to my vernacular.

Jackie, I hope your results from the cystoscopy are not what the doc expected. Glad the VA is stepping in to rope all those bills into their control. Less aggravation for you as well as less worry.

We have had horrible weather this week. Yesterday was gray and dreary with winds that made the 50 degree weather feel in the low 40's and bone chilling. Today was a gully washer of a day with intermittent drizzle and then absolute downpours. Tonight we had the light and rumble show with lightning and thunder. The dog was pacing and then hid it was so loud. Our stream was really high this afternoon and gushing so I can't wait to see what it looks like tomorrow.

Sandy, I hope the wedding is spectacular and you get to enjoy it and NO.

We have estimates from 2 contractors for replacement of the front steps and sidewalk and they are planets apart. The first one embellished what we discussed and we had to rope him in yesterday. They guarantee their work for 8 years which most offer only a year at best and he did give us a reasonable quote on realigning the flagstone patio that has developed a "middle aged spread" over the past 20 plus years. It needs to be lifted, the base fixed and the flagstones re-laid with something better than the plastic edging they used then. The one wall of the flower bed is leaning and it is stacked flagstone so it needs to be carefully deconstructed and then reconstructed. This is beyond our skill set.

The second contractor gave us a contract but there is info missing that I would like included such as more detail about the construction itself not just the product used. He is coming tomorrow to give us an estimate on rebuilding the patio.

We went to one local supplier to look at PA bluestone, EP Henry and Techo Bloc only to learn that they no longer supply anything more than the bluestone. It is very expensive so will be scratched from the wish list. Their website stated they carried all 3. So we segued to another supplier that did have samples of the Techo Bloc but not EP Henry. Today we took a quick run to a local supplier that had EP Henry and bluestone available. So now we have seen all 3 but not able to compare at just one place. We do have more of an idea of what we are leaning towards and if any of you have used any of these products, your feedback would be appreciated. We want to make a decision before the end of April so we can get on their dance cards or we will not be able to get it done much before the fall.

Hope tomorrow is dry and we get some sun so we can dry out from this soggy, dismal weather.

Good morning. We had a small fire in the office and feeling very lucky that it was quickly out. The smoke was the biggest problem, as I keep my shipping supplies in there. They can be replaced. I cleaned all day and the special lady was there to assist me. It is about 50% completed. We feel very lucky and thankful, one second later and it would have been a major disaster. We felt so lucky, we bought a scratch off lotto ticket and won $100. That will pay for replacement shipping supplies. The smoke from burning plastic stinks. So Thankful.

Simply give others a bit of yourself; a thoughtful act, a helpful
idea, a word of appreciation, a lift over a rough spot, a sense
of understanding, a timely suggestion. You take something
out of your mind, garnished in kindness out of your heart,
and put it into the other person's mind and heart.

I am so grateful for you too petite -- that You had only a sm. fire and sm. damages. I hope the odors don't linger too long. That seems always a major issue in most fires -- the smells of what burned. Hoping you will soon be restored.

It began to rain through the night sometime and we are having drizzles this morning. It is cold too. Not a great combination. I won't be going out today and that is sure nice.

Knock on wood -- I am still feeling well and don't seem to be holding onto water. Hope I can continue on that way. I do think the changes to my medications will surely help that a bit more. If I read things correctly -- once my red blood cells get sufficient enough to go to work for me, it will make eliminating water and salt easier to do and be a boon to my system. Hope you all have a realy fine day.

Petite1: Glad you were able to avoid a catastrophe with your quick action regarding the fire. Things can be replaced. Can your local fire department help you with smoke remediation? They seem to know which products to use to remove the after odor. Smoke from plastics is also toxic.

Jackie: Once they get your anemia under control, you will have more energy to move about and it is the movement that helps rid you of excess water though exercise induced urination. As I used to tell my students, where the water goes, so goes the salt. So if you are peeing, you are losing salt; if you are not, you end up with fat ankles and perhaps a bigger butt if you are sitting a lot because edema goes to the lowest points and let's face it your butt is between your kidneys and ankles. I used to tell them to assess the butt as well as the ankles especially if the person had their feet elevated and they were sitting in a chair.

Today we are blessed with sunshine and warmer temps but you still need a jacket outdoors. The one contractor stopped by today to look at the patio and will get back to me with an estimate. He told me the hydrangeas, that were part of starting this process, have actually morphed into additional plants and I can separate them into new plantings. So weather permitting, I will work on that tomorrow. I just need to find some areas to place them temporarily. They are blue, bloom profusely, and the blooms last into the fall. So I have 3 bushes that may become almost ten. His plan calls for a natural rock wall which could serve as the new place for these once the work is done. I am wondering now if the lilac bush which is probably 40 plus years old also has offshoots that I can distribute elsewhere. This bush is so aromatic when it blooms and I clip some branches to bring indoors. The more I talk to him the more his plan appeals to me.

Cindy, No response from the moderators so they have either not read what I wrote or are tired of my carping. This site is still a hot mess and I stand by my opinion about the site constructors, they do not know how to do this.

    Have a good day.

Betrayal, great info you gave me. It will help motivate me even if I feel too tired to get up a bit more. I have had some super RESTFUL 'behind' filling days and I now will have something to consider.

Problems with registering complaints: I so far haven't done much that way. Most of my complaining came when the site was all the way down. I still have all the usual complaints, but I feel like maybe the mods as well are hog-tied to whomever had the responsibility to find this entity that made this mess. As to why they don't seem able to 1. fire them or 2. get them to handle the most pressing adjustments ( like the super white pages ) which for some reason seems to me like it should not be too difficult an affair. They do seem somehow tied in some way to whoever they foolishly hired for this job.

Petite - how scary - glad the fire wasn't worse. congrats on the lottery win.

Jackie - happy to hear that you are doing well.

Betrayal - I agree with you on calling a shot/inoculation is not a jab!! I saw my medical oncologist for my 6 month visit and he isn't necessarily recommending the 2nd booster. He said recent article in New England Journal of Medicine says it only lasts a couple months. But he does want me to keep wearing masks - I've slacked off the past couple week, especially this past week at work, but I respect my oncologist so I will listen to his advice. He has done well by me for 16 years. He is keeping me on a 6 month schedule.

Supposed to be in mid to high 70s tomorrow then cool off - weather will be up and down all week.

Everyone, stay well and have a good week-end.

Wondering Karen if that may be why those of us who got three shots ( Moderna ) with the last called a booster are hearing the need for another booster. That said, I also heard that the 4th. shot would actually be the YEARLY one, much like the yearly flu shot we get. It still seems ( if when it is mentioned ) to be called a booster though.

I will get the 4th. shot when or if offered, but I do feel we seem stuck to some confusions over covid shot treatments and I'll be glad when and if that can be sorted out into a definite answer.
I'm good with keeping a mask on for now. Then again -- I'm not doing very much out. I only go to the bank and maybe the drug store on rare occasion, the Dr's office and a friend who I trust. My family gets cabinfeveritis pretty easy so they don't mind doing errands like grocery shopping.

Petite - you’re very fortunate your fire was small.

Betrayal - I’m no help on the bluestone or other outdoor walkway material. In NY I’ve used and reused slate for walkways.

IllinoisLady - I found our paperwork on the boosters and even read our vax cards. It doesn’t say what dose we received. I should call just to know if mine were a half dose.

I finished putting down the landscape fabric and all of the stone. What a relief! It was 74 and sunny, so much better weather than the other days. Two projects we can check off our list.

Tomorrow we’re headed to the casino for a free concert going on all day & into the night. I may have to try the slots, donate my $20 or maybe I’ll hit again! I can dream. I hope we all have a good night and a great weekend

Only one person in a thousand knows the trick of really living in the present. Most of us spend fifty-nine minutes an hour living in the past, with regret for lost joys or shame for things badly done (both utterly useless and weakening) or in a future which we either long for or dread. . . . There is only one minute in which you are alive, this minute, here and now. The only way to live is by accepting each minute as an unrepeatable miracle. Which is exactly what it is—a miracle and unrepeatable.

Freezing overnight here, but it will warm and most important -- sun today. With all the moisturized days we have had I've not kept up with the Spring like I usually do -- eagerly awaiting leaves popping out of the small bushy trees that are the first to pop out. I have enjoyed the Easter lily flowers but we don't have tulips in this yard. Grass is green and the little purple clover flowers have arrived. Also, my Vinca Minor ( periwinkle ). I really love it. The periwinkle blue/purple flowers are so delicate and eye-catching. The only thing -- I do wish the flowers lasted longer.

Good news from Petite and Jackie. So glad the fire didn't spread and that you are feeling better, Jackie.

I had bad news from my MN neighbor, Mary, who has a FL winter home she shares with her dh Lyman. Lyman's sister Shirley has been dx'ed with lung and brain cancer and her doctors have given her a maximum of 6 weeks to live. The news we all dread, that there's no remedy for our ailment. Shirley was a fairly frequent visitor during the summer at Pine Hollow Resort and I had many conversations with her.

It's a lovely cool morning here. A/C off. Heat on. Later I will organize myself to do a job that has been nagging at me. Clean the windows outside and inside. We'll see if this resolve has staying power. LOL.

Was planning to see if I could split the hydrangeas today but it was pouring when I woke. It is a given that if I mop the floors, it will rain. So I will delay gardening until it is less soggy. It's also cold.

CindyNY: I have used slate for walkways on my property as well. There is one area in the yard where there is a hidden stone wall is a low point on the property. It took me a few years to find it and after I cleaned it up I made it into a fern bed because it is shady. I ran a slate walkway from the patio to and through it. Because of the freeze and thaws we get, I am always having to readjust the walkway going to this hidden area but then have to remove leaves and dirt from the one in the fern bed. It is stable but just needs a good cleaning every spring. As the leaves breakdown they make compost that I then toss into the fern beds. As slates break and have to be replaced, I recycle the broken ones into another bed as steps.

Carole: Sorry to hear about your neighbor's SIL.

Sandy: Hope you are enjoying the wedding and NO. Have a beignet for me. The powder dusting should be regarded as a badge for a pleasurable experience. Is Central Market on your radar?

    Have a good weekend.

Yesterday I did cleaning on the back porch. Two windows, inside and out. Ceiling fans. I did not wash down the porch wall and ceiling but I removed dirt dauber 'houses." Dirt daubers are flying insects that resemble wasps but they don't sting. They're busy insects building their dirt cocoons on all surfaces available to them. Some are easy to remove and some are much more resistant.

I was intending to continue window cleaning today but the weather is perfect for yard work so I will get out the pruning tools. Also don a long sleeved shirt.

We're recording day 4 of the Masters Golf tournament so in the afternoon we'll begin watching it.

    Happy Sunday.

The more authentic you become, the more genuine in your expression, particularly regarding personal experiences and even self-doubts, the more people can relate to your expression and the safer it makes them feel to express themselves. That expression in turn feeds back on the other person's spirit, and genuine creative empathy takes place, producing new insights and learnings.

Had a somewhat lazy day yesterday. Likely another will happen today. I am slow with most of what I do but have been looking around at all that has gone a bit by the way-side. I have a long list.

I am wondering about those dirt daubers and if there are any here. They sound sort of interesting, though bothersome if their nests are hard to remove. Good that they are only an annoyance since they don't sting. Hope you all have a great Sunday.
