Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?

We get the dirt daubers on our front porch in the corners and yes, they do resemble wasps but don't usually bother us. Hard to get them off the brick at times. Have a good Sunday..

Well, the crystal wedgies AND the orthopedic sandals tore my feet to shreds but it was so worth it. Gathering pix from friends—I was too busy taking part in the wedding to photograph anything more than the kids cutting the cake. Despite all the stair-climbing/descending (these old buildings have no elevators and the party rooms are all upstairs), the wedding was wonderful. Ceremony went off without a hitch, and I did the reading (unlike my usual First Corinthians or Song of Solomon which I'm usually requested, since this was a secular wedding Leslie requested a Pablo Neruda love sonnet). We then grabbed our to-go cocktails and linen napkins and descended to the street for the Second Line parade. I was able to keep time with the band for most of it, but it was nearly a half-mile long and another wedding was gaining on us. (In NOLA this time of year there are hundreds of weddings, several a day in the Quarter alone). The food was great (passed apps, buffet, carving station, wedding cake and petits fours), and the band changed out of their parade uniforms and played almost 4 hrs of jazz, classic rock, soul and a final Meters medley.
Afterwards, Leslie's folks headed back on the party bus to their Vrbo in Bywater; but the kids wanted to go for drinks and insisted Bob & I come along. Our destination was Fritzel's European Jazz Club at the quiet(er) end of Bourbon St. A spring break Saturday night on Bourbon Street is everything you imagine it to be. Leslie led the way, and she was really booking it—it was an adventure trying to keep up, lifting my palazzos to avoid the puddles of unidentified fluids, broken Mardi Gras throws and drunken Gen-Z tourists through clouds of weed smoke (no, it's still not legal in LA, but this is the French Quarter. The night before the rehearsal, we dealt with a different kind of smoke: the bachelor/ette party, including both sets of parents, was at Dos Jefes cigar bar—fortunately, out on the patio). We spent about half an hour there (in the quiet courtyard) before walking back (down a more serene route) to the hotel. Gordy & Leslie left not long after, but the rest of the wedding party went to a strip club with ample cheap bubbly and didn't get home till after 3am.
So we had a bit smaller crowd (no bridesmaids & their DHs, and one groomsman left early this morning for his home in Oakland) for the brunch this afternoon. The weather was gorgeous all weekend (albeit with a chilly breeze coming in off the river). One more dinner tonight with my sis, niece, and old friends who'd relocated to SC. We leave tomorrow after lunch with sis & niece.

Sandy - the weather sounds like it was wonderful. Safe travels back to Chicago.

It’s been exciting to share this wonderful poignant life passage with you Sandy in colorful NOLA. Looking forward to some pictures. On the totally opposite end of the passages spectrum my birthday was, I think, the same day, April 9. Along with Apple Pro ear buds, etc, etc, I got a t shirt that reads “So Happy I’m Only 88.”

Right now I know that I am standing on the threshold of a breakthrough--
a spiritual journey that will take me further along in my growth than
I could ever possibly imagine. This is a journey on which I will be filled
with a peace that far surpasses anything I have ever experienced,
and I begin it by knowing and living the truth of my divine potential.
I am on a journey of positive thinking, praying, and living. If ever I find myself
falling into a rut of negative thinking, I can't break down--I break through!
I break through the barriers of those negative thoughts and that
less-than-positive attitude. I break through and discover that
I am a spiritual being on a divine journey.

Sandy, yes we do need a couple pictures, please. And keywest -- good to hear from you. I love the birthday shirt ( and by the way, Happy Birthday ) reference to only being 88. Always makes me giggle at whomever is able to come up with things like this. My mind just never worked that way so if I get on a t-shirt site I spend most of my time in giggles and outright guffaws.
Some sun at the moment but it likely won't last. We have already been treated to a coffee-time ( early ) thunderstorm with the dog looking for where he could escape. I always feel bad for him.
A couple of items for today, but nothing earth-shaking. Just looking for a couple of appts. Sounds like we will get to the Kroger store tomorrow and see what may be in their low-salt isles and deli. I do know they carry the Boar's Head brands which are advertised as one of the lowest -- especially for sandwich meats. Able to find some lower sodium tuna fish yesterday. I love tuna fish but have had to be super caution as the kind I like best from Aldi's ( SkipJack ) is rather high -- so I can't put much on a sandwich.
Feeling fairly well. The other night ( into part of the day ) I thought it was looking despite good numbers, that I might be taking on too much water again. Then suddenly -- it all backed off. Seems then, my Cardiologist did a good thing changing my medications during the recent hosp. stay. I don't even seem to notice much change sitting here. My rt. foot and ankle was swelling, but has stopped. Crossing fingers here while I await my iron tablets doing their job.
Hope you all have a really pretty day.

Sandy, I have so enjoyed hearing all about the wedding. Looking forward to the pictures.

Sandy: The wedding sounds wonderful and all the meals you described made me hungry. You will have many memories that surface when you see the photos and so glad you opted to have fun rather than play photographer. When I married we opted to go to the post-reception party at my parents house because we were headed to Ireland for a honeymoon but were not leaving until several days later. It was a fun time and not to be missed. Sounds like you had a good time. Looking forward to some pictures.
Jackie: sounds like your diet changes are making you feel better and even though it takes work to find meals you can eat, it will be worth it when you see the results of your efforts.
Keywestfan: Happy belated birthday and many happy returns. Wear your shirt with pride.
Rain has finally passed out of area and this week will be a tad warmer so I may get to raking out leaves from flower beds. I always leave a light covering because it cuts down on weeds and makes compost. It will be nice to work out of doors as well.

Happy birthday Keywest! Sounds like it was a good one

Sandy - NOLA and the wedding sounded great. Step son, Dr, did his undergrad at Tulane. We love it there!
Keywest - belated happy birthday!
Today, 4/12, would have been my dads 106th birthday. He’s been gone going on 19 years. I still have vivid dreams of him.
Guests are gone for now, so today we spent some time at the pool. Next guests arrive Thursday night. Weather going back up to 90 and humidity to match. I don’t like it that hot, but no one is asking me!
Enjoy the day

I took a vacation from the board. Just fed up with the glitches.
I posted some of my sari creations, but nothing is happening. A friend helped me with changing the dirt in my planters for fresh garden-soil. I will help it along with fertilizer, since our soil is so sandy. Other than that, and activities at church, not much going on.
Sandy, so glad the wedding went well. Looks like some guests really enjoyed the partying well into the night. And the couple finally got some time to themselves.

Many people do not know that they can strengthen or diminish the life around them. The way we live day to day simply may not reflect back to us our power to influence life or the web of relationships that connects us. Life responds to us anyway. We all have the power to affect others. We may affect those we know and those we do not even know at all. . . . Without our knowing, we may influence the lives of others in very simple ways. -Rachel Naomi Remen

Sandy, Sounds like a great time.
Cindy, the past couple of days I turned the A/C off. My phone has that it is 66 degrees.
Keywest, Happy Birthday.
Jackie, hope you get it under control

Rain through the night last night. Not sure what it will do today. I am going to go to Mt. Vernon to the Kroger store. Wish we still had one here where we live. I was on the sore web-site and they have it appears, a huge selection of low or no salt items. Been meaning to go but not getting it done. Dh has an appt. not far from the store so today becomes the day. They do carry the Boar's Head brand of deli-type meats -- so I'm anxious to get a peek at those. I've found low-sodium bread -- so now time for some 'good' filling for it.
MC, good to see you ( and know your ok ) and it is frustrating on the site. Wish we were seeing some progress, but still seem to be at something of a standstill.
Hope you all have a great day.

Belated happy birthday, Keywestfan. Your experience with falling while wearing a smart watch made an impression on me. I worry about dh spending so much time alone in his work shop and suggested he get a smart watch that could be set up with alerts. He was happy to comply, since he has never met a gadget he didn't like. He loves his watch and laughs when it tells him he has been seated long enough and should get up and walk around!
Sandy, glad the wedding was everything you wished it to be. I, too, look forward to photos. New Orleans is the place to go for those who love to celebrate with food and music.
We had nice rainy weather part of the day yesterday and more rain is headed our way this afternoon and tonight. My knockout roses I planted last fall are healthy and lovely and already starting to bloom. The part of gardening I like is planting and planning a bed, not maintaining. Like all amateur landscapers, I made some errors years ago with my plantings. I made large azalea beds that became hosts of trash trees and vines. I planted a sweet olive tree too close to the house near the front door, not foreseeing how large it could grow and that keeping it pruned would be a job. Etc.
Happy Tuesday to all.

I checked back in today and was happy to see the forums are back online. It's still taking 10 seconds to change to the next page so I just skipped to the last page and will pick up from here.
We're having a wet, cold spring so far so I haven't been able to do much yet in the flower beds, last year at this time I had everything all cleaned up by this time.
Spring migration has begun with a few of the early species showing up. It got to 50 yesterday with the sun shining so I got out to see the Golden crowned Kinglets and the Ruby crowned Kinglets.

Had to look up Kinglets and how cute they are. I'm surprised at how small they are, more like our wrens it seems. We definitely do not get them on the east coast of the US, but wish we did. I am not a "birder" per se but I do enjoy watching those who visit my feeder and the exotic ones we have seen on our trips overseas. Mother's Day is usually when my hummingbird returns. I will need to locate that feeder and I already have the sugar for the nectar. I buy the 10 pound bags from Walmart (they are cheaper) and have a meal sealer that I use to make pouches to store it in smaller quantities to keep it from hardening.
You have been missed Puffin.

Puffin -- just saying hi and good to see you.

I think we're all having strange weather. High risk for tornado where I used to live. I just took garbage out and it's 44. They're predicting 35 at 7am tomorrow. Brrr. It's really good to see everyone again. I realize now how important these boards have been for me, especially when we're afraid to go out in person for so long. I'm going to keep wearing a mask in stores although it's such a blessing not to have them on all the time.
0 -
Wren, good to see you too. We are due for more storms tomorrow -- but it will start tonight and greet us in the morning at coffee time. I am wearing my mask. It did seem when we went to Kroger's today in Mt. Vernon, I don't recall seeing one other person with a mask on. I was surprised. We are still getting some cases although it is way down, I admit. It is a big store so we didn't encounter people in every aisle, but I would have likely been really nervous w/o my mask.
We will be going back. The Boar's Head case was empty and no clerks were around to ask why, but in addition I did find a number of items to add to my pantry. Also, I walked and pushed a cart through this big store so I got to a point where I made sure to be able to supply us with things I knew I couldn't find here in Centralia. Learned two things -- I do need to use that store more often and as well -- my medications are working well. Frankly, a few days ago I'm pretty sure I would have needed a motorized cart to be in a store that size.

Still gathering the pictures. The kids (who landed at O'Hare a couple of hours ago) may make them, and the video, available on their website "Gordlie.com." I am so behind the times I didn't even know they'd also made several pre-wedding Instagram videos. (I rarely do social media any more besides Facebook--mostly messaging & video voice lessons--and Twitter, commenting rather than Tweeting).
The one thing I wish someone had recorded was Gordy's friend Rohan's rehearsal dinner toast--the punch line had us all howling ("Now that you're about to be a married man, you too can finally say: 'keep my wife's name out of your..."). An indirect gift from Will Smith.
Happy Extended Birthday, Judy! A wedding is a "passage." But 88 is an accomplishment.
Nursing some brutal blisters from Saturday night. The Second Line parade in those cute little crystal & gold wedgie sandals were no problem. But the mad dash down Bourbon St. afterward, in slightly loose Alegrias the wide straps of which rubbed on my forefeet, was the culprit. May have to cancel the "pedi" part of my mani-pedi tomorrow (not just because of the predicted Stormageddon), due to the inadvisability of soaking my feet. The burst ("de-roofed") blisters, covered by hydrocolloid bandages, developed their own still-intact blisters from the friction of the hydrocolloids lifting and sticking to my slippers. It's getting so that if I so much at look at my feet cross-eyed, they blister.

Sandy - you know as soon as I saw you mention a web site, I had to look. It looks like a great gang of friends were attending. Especially loved Dot.
Heading up to 89 this afternoon. It looks like summer weather for the next 10 days. I booked a pontoon boat for a half day next Wednesday. My grand niece should be over the moon, it's a surprise for her spring break. Plus we enjoy it.
Going out to lunch with the ladies today. I had set my alarm for 9, but woke up at 7. I'll sleep good tonight! Almost forgot I have a 90 minute therapeutic massage at 5. My back still isn't right. Between sports chiropractor and therapeutic massage, I hope for the best. I did go online and book my muscle therapist chiropractor for 5 pm the day after my return to NY, May 18. I wanted to make sure I got in!

Puffin, Hi. Good to see you again.

Loved looking at the website, Sandy. The “kids”, as you call them look so joyous and as if they truly belong together, laughing a lot, getting the fun out of life.
And, speaking of fun, of a much muted, aged kind, a different life passage, we went to Mykonos, a warm Greek restaurant in Niles, with saganaki which almost flamed my hair. There were five of us, DS, DDIL, DGS( whose voice changed just that day- April 9) At 5 o'clock, the place was jammed. No- one was wearing a mask. Everytime the unmasked servers came near, bending over me to refill water, etc., I turned away. Still not comfortable in a room of a 100 or so unmasked strangers.
Carole, it was exactly a year ago that I got the Apple Watch for my birthday. This year Apple Pro Ear buds, so I can listen to books as I endlessly walk to PT because of a limp, which has more to do with weakened tendons and muscles than with the only very mildly osteoarthritic knee which buckles when I get up. I attribute it, probably incorrectly to the Arimidex. PT is helpful, if exhausting.
That was a digression though. What I wanted to say is again that two days after I got the watch and fell on a bad sidewalk join, was unconscious and the watch called paramedics,DH, DS, 43 residents in the retirement home where we live also purchased watches. When an ambulance pulls up here we basically know some has fallen and the watch has summoned help..

As I look back at the entire tapestry of my life, I can see from the perspective of the present moment that every aspect of my life was necessary and perfect. Each step eventually led to a higher place, even though these steps often felt like obstacles or painful experiences.

Got to Marion today to pick up the new hearing aids -- a little changed from five yrs. ago. Now there is a monthly cleaning cycle -- so I'll be living by the calendar for something else. My wt. and blood pressure readings now have a spot on the calendar as well as a lot of filled in squares for Dr's appts. I get to now add monthly cleanings. Pretty soon I'll have to get a calendar with bigger squares.
We had a couple of cloud bursts go on -- one on the way to Marion and one later on here at home before we arrived back. Was a possibility for a tornado here, but that part of the weather decided to veer toward the South. It still was dicey with the cloudburst. We never had to pull over although a couple of cars did. My windshield wipers are pretty new.
Have my cardio appt. with little Dr. Rueben next week and Urologist tomorrow.
Still feeling pretty well although my sleep hasn't been as good. Been on a sort of crazy pill schedule with taking these trips to Marion. Hard to work in the small needed meal/snacks as well as needing a blood pressure check first to make sure my pressure is at least 90 systolic. Hmmm. Well, I can now get back to normal for a week.
I am anxious to go to the wedding website too.
Hope you all had a really good day.

Jackie - HUGS to you. A lot going on and you’re handling it all admirably.
My 90 minute massage was cancelled soon after I told you all about it. The therapist has dislocated her shoulder. She’ll get back to her patients as she is well enough to work again. Disappointed forme, saddened for her - it’s only her in the business.

Enjoying a beautiful sun in a clear sky this a.m. Will get around 60 degrees -- usually a few degrees warmer here. Hooray !! Tired of storms and gray, dark non-blooming skies. We will get more rain later on -- towards week-end -- but hope to have some dry-out time afterwards.
Cindy, a bummer that the massage therapy can't take place. In some ways likely harder on your therapist -- depending on how long it will take to her recovery. I hope you both are able to get what you need sooner rather than later.
Will start working in my bedroom this afternoon I think. Since I seem over-all to be responding to the new meds, it is time to give sleeping all night in my bed a chance to see if I'm able. I expect once I'm over the hump I may be able to be there comfortably. I'm excited by the prospect. I have not slept well in the recliner and hope that can get better. Just being closer to my little half bath should be something of a help.
Hope you are all having some sun and looking forward to a wonderful day.

Jackie, you have the character and personality to cope with the demands of your medical regimen. Appointments, meds, home bp checking, weighing, etc. We're all cheering for you.
We got awful news last night. Our summer neighbor in MN, John from Texas, died. The woman in MN who cleaned his condo was notified and she called the Pine Hollow Resort phone number which is connected to dh's phone. John was a regular every day at 4 pm Happy Hour on Mary and Lyman's deck. His absence will be felt. He had heart disease and diabetes but was conscientious about monitoring his sugar level and taking his meds and consulting with his physicians. Just days ago I exchanged texts with John about returning to MN for the summer. He was looking forward to his return to his rented condo at the resort.
Keywestfan, you should have a badge from Apple for all the watch sales you have inspired!
Happy Thursday to all.
