MC, glad you signed up for the health program. Seemed more to me like in part it is so you can get back in the swing of some things you haven't done in a long time. Since I participated in a 'healthy' program through the Felician Sisters at our local hospital, more than once, and did the same program with the V.A. as well as the Cardio Rehab through the VA. it does seem to be there are huge blocks of really good, detailed information in those programs.
I sincerely hope you do learn a lot that helps you get comfortable overall with great health practices and even more with some wt.loss added in. I know your wt. loss in many ways is for the benefit of your extremities. My teachers have always stressed that 'better' earing is as desirable, sometimes even more so than the wt. reduction. So, that should happen in time if you are following the majority of nutritional rules.
Betrayal, I have discovered that I'm finding a lot of enjoyment for myself on the Netflix channel. Glad yours is 'fixed'. We added it on for the kids -- they got hooked on Cobra Kai at someone else's house on vacation. I had no idea what Cobra Kai was but turns out it is all the cast from the movie " The Karate Kid " from many yrs. ago and this is sort of a spin-off series. I don't watch it but have fallen in love with the Netflix documentaries. I watched a piece on Garth Brooks life last night. Paid the price by sleeping in this morning and I didn't even get to watch the whole thing. Going to have to save that type of documentary for earlier in the day. I go to bed around 11 p.m. and that is too late for a small series of someone's life to date.

Even the mention of yellow jackets bees makes me wince with remembered pain. One year at a previous home, I drove the lawn mower over a nest in the ground and the little bees swarmed out covering my body. What pain from those stings! They are nasty little bees. I didn't realize the nest was there.
Betrayal, I'm envious of your rain. We're supposed to get a brief shower, possibly, about 11 am but I'll believe it when it happens. We badly need a soaking rain.

Lost my message which is maddening. We are predicted to have showers today as well as tomorrow with brief bits of sunshine between them. Don;t need the moisture since ground is already saturated and backyard muddy. Will be in the 60's so that's nice.
Tree guys coming today to take last ash on front lawn while those in backyard require use of a very large crane so they are next week. Losing the 4 in the backyard will mean a change in how much shade we get so it will be interesting next year to see. We still do have large trees in the woods behind us which will provide some shade but are distant enough they will hopefully not hit house if they fall. Dogwoods I planted may benefit from more light now. Should also see a decrease in the leaves we get.
We had 2 bad experiences with ground bees which may have been yellow jackets. Once I was pulling weeds by the stream when they came out of nowhere and stung me even threw my clothing. No warning that they were even there until they chased me up the driveway. My neighbor took care of that nest late at night because he is highly allergic to them. He worked for the electric company so had access to some chemical they used. Second was a few years ago when they attacked my poor Lita just for walking across the lawn. Didn't realize what was happening to make her yelp and they did not swarm her. Called an exterminator for that one since they had a burrow between 2 of my flower beds so I could not work in either of them. Nasty insects.
Mavericksmom: Sorry to hear about your fall and hope you have not had any other lasting effects.
Working on inside projects again today but not sure of which ones to tackle on my list. I should attack those I like least first since that will give me a better feeling of satisfaction when complete. Have a good day all.

It’s foggy here this morning. The cul-de-sac behind us sits below us and was so fogged in we could only see the rooftops. Should all burn off by noon.
McBaker - Glad you’re getting into an exercise program. Getting into a walkingroutine has really helped me maintain my weight.
Heading to Costco this afternoon to checkout the hearing aids. They’ll do a hearing test, even though I had one in March. Have already discussed the type of hearing aids that I’d like, so hopefully the appointment will go smoothly.
Hope everyone has a healthy and peaceful day.

Opposition is a natural part of life. Just as we develop our physical muscles through overcoming opposition--such as lifting weights--we develop our character muscles by overcoming challenges and adversity.

As to the Yellowjackets I have to the best of my knowledge, never been stung. I did get stung for the first time in my life, by a wasp on our deck. The wasps make nests under the shutters closest to our kitchen door (funny they don't seem interested in the other shutter) and I've always thought one was near the handle of the screen door that I opened to go inside. I barely got inside and everything I had been carrying in that hand just dropped in the floor. My arm hurt so it was nearly paralyzed. For a time. It really sounds like yellowjacket stings are just as bad.
It was overcast all morning and finally rained a little bit ago. I think that may break the spell of the warmer temps. we have been having the last week or so. It continues with a nice consistent drizzle coming down. I think we are getting what Carole wants and what Betrayal already has.
I called a bit ago and got an appt. with Dr. Ang. He is the Dr. who did my recent colonoscopy. I should have made the appt. a few days back but I'm bad about phone calls. I really don't like to talk on the phone, and it has been worse lately. You'll see.
The second call was to Veteran's Community Care. They take care of assisting you with appts. What a HUGE exercise in frustration. Many will identify with this. First, you talk to a recording with all sorts of options and a lot of info that is only pertinent for a small, limited group -- but you listen to all of it anyway. At long last I got put on hold to await my turn. After 10 mins, my turn came, only to be somehow dis-connected. Okay -- mistakes happen. Then I got on with someone who tried to help but after 20 mins she suggested I call back to the main switchboard because she couldn't seem to route the call (she was the triage nurse) to the proper place. She connected me herself, but what do you know -- that connection ended up failing. I finally called th switchboard myself again and finally got a phone appt. for 10 o'clock tonight. I was thinking I needed an antibiotic for my ear. It has been doing some strange things -- like running for a day or so, then drying and little pieces of wax come out. Been doing it for a couple of weeks. now which is why I may have an infection, but I'm frustrated over it and I need someone to help me sort it out. I really would like to see a Dr., but short of driving to the VA. in Marion (emergency room) it seems I'm not able to figure out a way to get a referral very easy to a Dr. here. Maybe I'll have to call the V.A. ombudsman after all. That is my list of woes for the day.
Hope you are able to have a productive day.

Last night I got an email/test notification that a new test was added to my portal. I clicked on it and it was my pathology report from my recent mastectomy.
Thank goodness I have my appointment today with my BS because I had three different types of breast cancer in my breast! Thankfully the invasive components were tiny so I doubt it could have spread anywhere (nodes were negative), but wondering if they were new cancers or metastatic from the other breast? I am really looking forward to this appointment, unfortunately, it is late in the day, but definitely worth the wait. My sister, the only one of my sisters who hasn't been diagnosed with breast cancer, is driving me to the appointment. I wanted her to meet my BS in hopes that she will see him when she needs her next mammogram. Regardless of why there is so much cancer in my family, she is definitely considered high risk.
I drove home from my appointment with my PS yesterday, and I had no problem. It was an early morning appointment. My DH drove to the appointment, but I wanted to drive home. We decided if I felt it was too much, I would just stop somewhere, and we would switch places. I did perfectly fine and it felt so good. I still want my sister to drive me today, because I get really tired as the day goes on and I know I wouldn't be able to safely drive today, especially since rush hour will have started.
I hope we get a little sun today as it has been gloomy the past few days.
Illinoislady, wow, talk about frustrating phone calls! I really hope you can get an appointment and some treatment for your ear! It is horrible that it is such a hassle to get needed care!
Cardplayer, I am interested to know how your trip to the store for HA went. I hope your appointment went well!
All the "bee and yellow jacket" talk gives me the hebejeebies! I am highly allergic. I have only been stung three times, but don't ever want to get stung again. My doctor told me as long as I don't get stung in my neck, I shouldn't be at risk of death. I don't get anaphylactic shock, just immediate, exaggerated, swelling.
I am glad the yellow jacket nests were destroyed. That was always a fear of mine while gardening. I do very little gardening now, mostly just in our front garden.
I am definitely going to retire in 2023, and more likely sooner than later in the year. Big decision, but somehow it feels like the right thing to do now. I really wish I wasn't going through my current health issues because I have seen some perfect matches for adopting a rescue dog. I know that may need to wait until after I retire, and I probably should stop looking at the website of a very good local rescue group, but I can't help myself......and I am not used to having so much free time on my hands!
Have a great day everyone!

Good morning. It is 60 degrees this morning and may have some rain this afternoon. I had to take Miss Felix in for an EKG. She still has a rapid heart rate, though it was done a little from last time. Her Vet said we have done all we can do. She had a panting spell the night before, which makes 2 in 3 weeks. If the spells increase, it maybe time to think about Miss Felix crossing the rainbow bridge. I was teary eyed on the way home and getting teary eyed as I type.
MM, That fall sounds scary. I am glad you were not hurt.
Betrayal, Your yard sounds so amazing.
Cardplayer, I wrote down something i wanted to comment on, but can't read my writing. LOL
Cindy, I have an under desk. I use it about 30 - 60 minutes, but not everyday. If it is raining or very hot, I use it to replace my walk. I do Silversneakers for about 45 minutes.
MC, That was something, about the rock on the roof.

petite1: Sorry to read about Miss Felix's heart issues. It is a tough decision to make, so I feel your pain having had to make this decision in August with Lita. You will know what's best for her and if you are blessed, perhaps she will just pass to the Rainbow Bridge on her own and under her own terms. She could not have asked for a better owner/parent. Her longevity is a testament to your care.
To a professional landscaper, my yard would be at best an effort by a rank amateur but I do look at professional work at times and realize that within 5 years, most of their plantings will be overcrowded (they do not leave room for plant growth), dead on one side due to overcrowding and lack of sunlight, and in need of replanting. So I'll take my yard any day because it pleases my eye and those of others. We have tried to be good stewards to the trees we inherited with the property but age, disease and storms have wreaked havoc on many of them and it does pain me to remove them. Removal is for safety though and to offer a chance to others that have been underbrush to the behemoths we have. We figure the ash was at least 90 feet tall and now the maple which was sistered (they were so close their roots were entwined) to it will have its moment in the sun and a chance to experience full growth. The maple has such pretty leaves this time of year. It opens a new vista in the yard as well.
Mavericksmom: hope your MO can sort out your path report. Most likely will want results from Oncotype or equivalent first to determine next steps though. Fingers crossed.
Today is foggy with showers predicted for later but it is in the 60's so not a total loss. Leaves are everywhere but are too wet for removal. Doing laundry this morning and hope to do some inside straightening up today. Our family room rug will be returned from cleaning so we can try to right the family room. Need my DSIL to move the couch though since it is so heavy. My mother had it custom made over 60 years ago and it is solid wood frame. The recliner is also on the heavy side and requires 3 people to move it. They may drop in today but if not, it will wait until Sunday. Hope everyone has a great day.

mavericksmom - thinking of you as you have your appointment this afternoon. Sending you a virtual hug.
My HA appointment went well. They started with a hearing test.it was very thorough. My Costco does not have audiologists, but they’re trained hearing specialists who can administer the tests and setu HA. They’re not on commission, so they weren’t pushing me. After the test, he recommended one of the brands of HA, fit me with them and had me wear them for a while. I did a little shopping, called DH, and decided to go ahead and order them. They’re similar to my current HA, except they’re rechargeable. I pick them up Sunday. I got the Reston BiCore C R Li.
Petite - sorry to hear about Miss Felix failing health. Sending you a virtual hug as well.
We had rain her earlier today, but now the sun is out and it’s warmed up. Gotta love the fall.
I hope everyone has a good afternoon.

Hugs from me as well Petite. Being a rescuer I have lost many of the beautiful people like Miss Felix. It never gets easier and despite the large number we have turned over to the Rainbow, and despite the for some time empty place our adored friends occupied in our house and extremely deep within our hearts, in time, we learn to cry way less and cherish the memory a whole lot more. Sending prayers and hugs for and yours.
Maverick hugs to you as well. Sending wishes for best possible and workable results. Glad your sis is going to be with you.
Got my call just after 10:30 p.m. last night. They recommended an Express walk-in- clinic that Vets are allowed to go to three times a year. Hmm!!! First time anyone clued me in there was such a thing. Anyway, this came from the Dr. who called from Community Care which is a V.A. dept. that helps get appts. for you to see Dr's. closer to your home. Since the clinic I went to was authorized by Community Care as a provider -- I assumed they would accept the decisions of the Dr. there. Boy, did I get a jolt. When I called in after my appt. they informed me that I would have to get a referral from my PCP -- so being highly irritated ay this I said, well that's a fine how do you do. It seems to me that you sent me on a wild goose chase. I knew my ear was full of wax and your Dr. last night made it sound like seeing someone today was an OPTION (her word, not mine) to help the process move along. In my book you wasted my time and money and I'm not at all happy about it. I had been in contact with them for two days so they could have already taken the step of contacting my PCP. Then I hung up on her. Not something I normally do but my frustration ot the better of me. She called back and told me that someone would call me back tomorrow. I hope it means that they are going to get my PCP called who would be more than delighted to MAKE the referral, and then get me lined up with someone who can get me in.
I think I mentioned before that due to the hole in my eardrum I can't use ear washes or drops of any kind. The wax has to come out manually. Fingers crossed.
Hope all are having or had a good day as I'm on here really late again.

Petite, I am so sorry to hear about Miss Felix! I had a wonderful rescue chi/mix that I adored. She would sit with us at dinner, on an empty chair, not begging, just lying there to be close to us. She had congestive heart failure, and her breathing was exactly the way you are describing Miss Felix. The vet gave us some meds to help, and she actually seemed like they were helping. A day later I came home, and my husband met me at the door and tears were pouring down his face. Apparently, Lucy jumped up on a kitchen chair to be near him while he was doing some work at the table, he looked over and that quick, she was gone. It is incredibly painful to lose such an important member of the family. I wondered if it would have been better just to have her put down, as we had done with other pets in the past. I have no answer for that. I am thinking of you, of Miss Felix, and wishing I could give you a huge hug. A cyber hug is the best I can do. Even with all the heartbreak, having those tiny souls in our lives enriches us in ways no human can.
Illinoislady, so sorry to read more about your ear issues and experiences with the doctor office! You sound like you were so much better than I would have been in that situation. I am glad she called you back, I hope today is better and you get the help you need!
Cardplayer, so glad things worked out well for you with your HAs!
Betrayal, I think your efforts in your yard sound amazing! Who cares if they are professional or not? The things you are doing and the obvious joy you are feeling from all your hard work, that is priceless! You are definitely improving the landscape! We had to take down many trees and while I hated to see them go, it was definitely the right thing to do.
My appointment yesterday went really well! Invasive components were tiny (IDC), the large section was DCIS, so as far as breast cancer goes, one of the best results! There was LCIS too, but I don't think they even consider that to be cancer. He really didn't even mention that. I see him again in December, then every 6 months for the next five years, and yearly after that. AND, NO MORE MAMMOGRAMS, which is true for anyone with bilateral mastectomies, but I am happy about that nonetheless! I did agree to see the MO again, just for advice and clarification. I don't think I will go back on AI's, but I have learned to embrace opportunities to gather information and never say never!
I need to text the Plastics PA with my drain output numbers today. They are decreasing, so the drain should come out soon. It isn't a big deal.
The sun is literally shining in my eyes! Thankfully my light filtering curtains prevent it from being a blinding light! I am so happy to see the sun!
My DD gave me a hibiscus "tree" for Mother's Day. We had to bring it inside due to dropping temps last week. It thrives on sunlight, so I am pretty sure it is a happy camper today too!
Have a great, frustration free, day everyone!

Never let mistakes and wrong directions—which every human falls into—discourage you. There is precious instruction to be learned by finding that we are wrong. We must try faithfully to be right, and we will surely grow daily more and more right. Our very learning to walk was an incessant falling and rising again; falling and catching ourselves before we hit the ground until finally we walked with ease. -Thomas Carlyle

mavericksmom: You can purchase acclimatized hibiscus that will survive our winters. Sounds like yours is one that needs shelter from the storm but I have 2 hibiscus that are planted outdoors. One is Starry Starry Night (google if you'd like to see the blooms) that is lovely and the blooms are the size of a salad plate. Don't remember the name of the other but it has very large white flowers. I do have a yard that has been declared a "certified wildlife habitat" and have a plaque in my one flower bed stating this. My DD applied for it and I met the criteria thus the plaque. Is it your BS surgeon that you see on this follow-up schedule? Hated mine so after he removed the stitches after my second lumpectomy, I fired him. Saw the RO and MO only. Didn't see the MO he recommended either because when I called to make an appointment we had a scheduling conflict issue, she would refuse to see you if you were late for an appointment (since when are MD's on time?) and I felt I had enough chaos in my life without adding a seemingly unpleasant physician. Love my current MO though my appointments will switch to annual after next June. Glad your path report was favorable.
Jackie: Hope you can get your ear issue properly dealt with and soon. It has to be an unpleasant experience and they should be trying to help you, not create more hurdles. Guess I don't understand VA care if it requires a referral from your PCP. I don't need a referral per se to see a specialist with my coverage. I may be advised to see one by my PCP but don't need a direct referral for an appointment.
Lovely to finally be out of the gray days and to see sun immediately rather than later after showers. Regan doesn't like it when the phone rings. She gets antsy with pacing and today emitted a small howl which was funny to hear. DH bought her some soft toys one of which has a squeaker only dogs can hear and she loves for me to toss it in the kitchen where her nails can't damage the wood floors. It has a travertine floor and she can also slide on it. She does seem to understand "bring and drop" though the rest of her commands are limited. She does now sit with a hand gesture so we are getting there. It is hard to figure out what happened in the 2 years she lived elsewhere as far as her learning. She will let me touch her food bowl while she is eating but the cats cannot get anywhere near her or she growls. She also eats rapidly like she is afraid someone will take her food away. I may buy her a bowl that slows down her pace for eating. Don't want her to develop bloat. She goes for spaying on Monday and will get "chipped" while under anesthesia. Seems chipping in older dogs is painful versus in pups.
Guys who returned rug yesterday offered to lay it so I took them up on it. Did not need SIL and DH to struggle with moving couch and recliner. They even placed furniture where it belonged. So room is now back to normal. Rug is an antique Persian and had some faded areas which were repaired by cleaner. They asked if I wanted it done and I must say the colors are now more vibrant but not garish. It looks lovely.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day. I need to get outside today so I will walk Regan. I can't wait until she can be walked on local trails (needed to be spayed first) so we can wear her overlong nails down (quick is at tip of nail so can't cut them).

((((Petite and Miss Felix ))))))
Maverick, your appt. sounds fairly positive. Hoping the drain is out really soon and continued improvements of healing.
I'm awaiting a call from? Community Care today. I hope it comes early. In addition to the on-going issues with the ear, it seems to be affecting my sight somewhat as well. Possible ocular migraine, but they don't cause pain so not sure. I manually increased the size of the print on my machine here and that is helping but I'm more anxious then ever at this point.
Hope you all have a good day.

I woke up at 6:00 this morning, having slept 7 hours. Played around on the internet, got dressed. Went to the gym, then to Mass. Now for a day of writing (hopefully I will stay away from internet functions), maybe a bit of sewing.
Jackie, I hope they get you scheduled in soon and quickly find out what is wrong. Betrayal, I have read that dalmatians are high energy and need lots of attention to iron out behavioral issues. Tippy plays a wild game of "bring and challenge" (me to a fight with the toy to be thrown). The other day he was actually doing the drop and I was so excited. Maverick, I am glad your recovery is going so well. Cardplayer, I would be nervous about rechargeable HA's. I know HA technology advances quickly, but...... I have Bluetooth for listening to phone calls, and next round I will go receiver in canal. Just not ready to bite on the technological advances until they are well-established. Petite, you will know when the time comes. Yes, that rock was something, and the person who threw it was something else. I should have divorced him long before. But I got a new roof for free, which was nice when I sold it.

betralyal, thanks for information on the hibiscus! I will definitely look them up! Would be awesome if we could plant this outside! Right now my plastic surgeon is the one I see most often, due to reconstruction. Yesterday I saw the breast surgeon. For the first time, I can honestly say I am so happy with my whole team! Next week I will see the MO again. He is so nice, knowledgeable and caring. I have a feeling there isn't much need for me to take an AI. This recent cancer would not warrant it, but the one that still bothers me is the ILC from 2019. I do know that if he recommends for me to take it, I will give it a try again. I trust him that much. Not sure he will. My risk before was 7% with AI, 10% w/o AI. There are some other factors, I will just feel better going over this again with him. I saw an MO when I was at Fox Chase, very nice woman, but she moved on to genetics department or something. That is one thing I didn't like about FCCC, people were always moving on. I know that happens a lot everywhere but seemed more than the norm there. Three years later and only my former plastic surgeon is still there. All the other doctors, NP's PA's I saw, moved on.
Jackie, hope you received your call from Community Care! Really sounds like you need medical help! I am so sorry you are going through this! Also, I love your quote for today! I like most you post here, but today's quote resonated with me!
McBaker, A day of writing? I love to write! As for sewing, that was never my cup of tea, mostly because when I was learning to sew, my mother, who was an excellent seamstress, wanted perfection and made me rip out less than perfect seams.... over and over again!

Mary: Dalmatians can be high energy but we have been fortunate so far in not having ones that were out of control. They do need boundaries established and enforced though. The issue with Regan is that she spent much of her 2 years being crated while they worked, overnight and then separated from the pugs she had conflicts with. So hard to tell if this is the stem of her not being behavior trained per se. Our last 3 Dals never needed to be leashed while in yard and knew that they could not go beyond the rail fence (decorative only on front lawn) unless leashed. One would sit with her head hanging over the rail. None of them, including Regan, respond to dogs or people walking by with barking or aggressive behavior. I do think Dals sometimes get a bad rap but much of that is due to inbreeding and puppy farm breeders where you take a risk on the final product. True we know she came from a breeder in Chicago but not sure if he was one of the latter. She is a mystery on many levels. However we intend to help her be her best self by taking her for obedience training after her spaying.
I think what we love most about Dals is their quirkiness and this is one trait that not everyone can warm up to. Our first was a male and he used to bounce in place so his feet were level with the top of the fence, never realizing that he leapt as high as the top of our chain link fence. He was an escape artist but never over the fence, usually at the front door when someone didn't realize he would dart through. You had to lie on the ground playing dead to catch him. If you tried to reach over the fence to touch my children you would most likely have pulled back a stub. He never bit anyone but I think that was due to them heeding his message. The next 3 were female (Regan is number 4 for females) and all were not behavioral problems. If anything, my DB used to joke that as long as a burglar did not try to take our bed, they could clean out the house with the dogs blessings. One loved going in the above ground pool with my children and we had to keep the ladder raised because she was known to go swimming by herself on occasion. They put gym socks on her feet to keep her from damaging the liner. So I think sometimes Dals get bum raps but it is not the breed but moreso the breeder and to be honest a Golden Retriever attacked my DH and our dog (required emergency care) while they were in our yard. It belonged to a neighbor and it was the terror of the neighborhood. Yet, they are felt to be the best family dog? So I think this was a fluke for this breed but wouldn't judge all of them by this one instance. I don't feel you are being judgmental just recognizing that all dogs respond to attention and the more they get, the better they respond to their owners. Hope Tippy still responds to "drop". Reward here is getting the toy tossed again. Right now she is napping.

As a seamstress seweth, so shall she rip. I got used to it and became a highly qualified ripper. Knowing that some seams need to be carefully picked, one stitch at a time. Like: As a writer writeth, so shall she edit. Never knew how much alike they are, did you? You write well.

"Reward here is getting the toy tossed again." So that is the trick! We will work on that. I think we will go over to the park and do some work on it. The joy of going to get it is we do this in the apartment, and he does not know in which of three possible directions I will toss it. Not ideal.

Grrr, did not hear anything today. I think the lady I was talking to knowing I was good and mad just hoped it might happen, but I do know that people at the PCP. clinic as well as people at the Community Care unit have to arrange calls likely to be returned. It just doesn't pan out too neatly most of the time. Lady I talked too had her fingers crossed I imagine -- so I wouldn't call her back bellyaching but while I hoped it could be today, I had a suspicion it would not happen. Well, the up-side is that hopefully it will come tomorrow and, in the meantime, I may be able to figure out the eye issue. If I have trouble seeing again tomorrow -- than I will likely think it is due to the sinus issues and ear full of wax. My eyes are fine right now.
I do think breeding in dogs can be hit and miss. I've experienced others getting dogs and they get little information on the birth history of the dog even though it is a 'breeder'. This happened with my friend's Yorkie's, (3 ),over time breeders. Then she also got a Miniature Schnauzer and the breeder had every thing a person could ask. Birth order, behaviors from day one forward, when the puppy did all the puppy firsts and in which birth order they happened. This record was amazing. The breeder brought Sammie to the home to meet the Yorkie she would be living with twice before the final transfer as well as keeping Sammie an extra week from expecting homecoming date because she wanted to make sure her wt. was where it should be to make the transfer going as smoothly as possible. I didn't know there could be so much difference in breeders although even I knew the first two Yorkie's should have had a lot more information exchanged -- if not the concern to insure the healthiest transition to new home as possible.
,So there is a lot of difference, but I've taken dogs that were homeless or abused in the home they turned out to be pretty good dogs for the most part. All potty trained easily, all learned easily to co-exist with a house-full of cats. There were some issues that needed work, but they were not too serious. One dog (not Bill) retrieved things from the neighbor's yard and brought them home and we got better with it but could never get him to stop completely. Good thing the neighbor was a big dog lover. So all dogs, purebred or mutt with no history need loving positive direction to do the best they can. Also work dog breeds often need to be busy to wear them out a little. A nice walk can take care of that.

Betrayal, I agree -- Dalmatians are often listed informationally as high energy dogs, somewhat headstrong. I do think they can be high energy since so many dogs are and I think a lot, especially if not bred, carefully enough, are headstrong and don't take kindly all that well to direction -- ending up in foster care or abandoned because many lose patience. You know what you are doing, and Regan will learn because you will lovingly keep after her until she forgets "old" habits and replaces those with the ones she will come to know you expect. I do believe dogs are fine with boundaries and behavior rules which they learn as very young pups from their mothers in the beginning. Dogs are never too old to learn new tricks or good behaviors.

Sun is out bright, but it won't warm past 60's. Nothing special today but starting the bill paying cycles. Also have to go to the bank. Laundry and some work in my bedroom needs attention. I also will hope to do what I need to do out and not miss any calls from the Care office.
I'm crossing my fingers, but I heard yesterday that the Cardiologist I like so much is transferring out of Marion for someplace with a better climate. I will be assigned another Cardiologist from that dept. It will be a man which is okay with me, and it is comforting that he will have all her notes and pharmaceutical adjustments she has made. Hoping I will feel the comfort and understanding I had with Dr. Ruben which allowed for great confidence in her care. We will see how it goes. I do hope she is happy with her transfer.
We are no farther along in looking for a companion for our little Minnie. She still seems at times to 'wonder' about sweet Bill. I need to get to the point where I can have a bit more time to work with calling some of the county animal shelters and registering my wants/needs for an adoptee. That means getting my ear problems handled so I can converse well on the phone again.
Hope you all have a great day medically and physically.

My husband and I showed dogs back in the late 1970's early 1980's. I had a Champion Smooth Fox Terrier, my husband had Airedales. My "dream dog" was actually a collie, but I settled on Shetland Sheepdogs when we lived in an apartment due to size restrictions for our complex. They were wonderful and super smart!
Showing dogs was fun, expensive, but fun. We also bred several litters and I hated that. I loved the puppies and caring for them, hated the whole selling part. Too much to get into here, but in those days, there was no internet, so it meant taking out newspaper ads and no way to screen potential buyers. We had some very good buyers, but also some not-so-good. We made so many wonderful friends though showing and dog clubs, and the good memories will be with us forever! Our dogs were our fur babies, but I definitely would do things differently if I could go back in time.
Buying from a reputable breeder vs rescue is a tossup for me. Neither is perfect, neither guarantees you a "perfect" pet. I always told buyers the good and bad of breeds we sell. My feelings are there are no perfect dog breeds or dogs, but there are breeds where the negatives are easily accepted by the person who gives the pup a forever home. With my beloved shelties, a negative was shedding. I remember taking a gob of dog hair with us when we went to buy new wall to wall carpeting, so we could pick a color that best hid the hair! Yep, others take furniture swatches, or paint swatches, and we took dog hair.
I think regardless of where a fur baby comes from, you know you have a great match when you "feel" a connection in your heart!
Jackie, I REALLY hope you get to see someone today! My thoughts are with you!
betrayal, I looked up hibiscus and ours is not one of the one's you listed. I will need to research ours, not sure what kind it is, but will take photo to a local garden/landscape business near us to ask about it. I am fine with it being inside this year, assuming it doesn't die! That would make me sad.
This morning I needed to pick up a prescription, so I drove, and my DH came along for support. I needed to stop at the dollar store for some thank you cards and wanted to buy some lottery tickets. I didn't want to be out and about all alone just yet. I am feeling confident with driving though.
Anyway, there is a local tobacco shop that sells all kinds of lottery tickets. I am too cheap to buy them often and I don't buy Powerball or Mega Millions. A large group at work goes in on the Powerball/MM. We all put in $2/week. I only go in on it because if they hit the jackpot, I didn't want to be the only one left working! Also, I think there is something to be said for a single person/couple, winning too much. I wouldn't mind a million, knowing taxes would take a huge chunk, but multi millions, no thanks. Anyway, my beloved lottery store was robbed yesterday morning. Thankfully the owners weren't harmed. I was scared to go there for tickets today, but my husband said I should. I was glad he pushed me to do that as I had a conversation about the robbery with the owner and another customer, who owns a different store in the same shopping center. The robber was a woman, and she had a gun! The shop owners are the nicest people, and it makes me so made that some people think they have the right to take other people's money! At least money can be replaced. The owner's wife was behind the counter yesterday and he said she is still too traumatized to come back in the store! I sure hope the police catch the robber!
Oh, and I bought two Power Ball tickets because my husband had a dream that he bought two tickets and won, and that I was so mad, not because he won, but because he bought the tickets! LOL So I bought them more as a joke than anything else. I also bought a few tickets for my favorite game in PA, Match 6. I only buy them if the pot goes to at least 1 million and don't buy very many or often. I am too cheap to waste much money on the lottery. (I "teach" math so I am well aware of the odds! LOL)
Happy Friday everyone!

Illinois - hope you get your appointment today.
Mavericksmom - hope you get your drain out soon. Glad things are going well for you.
Mcbaker - DH is coming with me to my HA appointment. He has a few questions about the recharging unit and has done some research. I’m comfortable with the technology as well.
Spent yesterday several house with DD and granddaughter (7 weeks old). She was awake for about two hours during our visit and was pretty active. Really enjoyed the visit.
Saw my PS for my 6 month check up. All is good. Getting together with some ladies in the neighborhood this afternoon for our monthly get together. Always nice to catch-up, although we text every day.
Have a wonderful day.

My home was burglarized 30+ years and my Dalmatian was locked in my bathroom. I’m sure he growled but didn’t attack (I don’t believe). He was curled up on the bathroom rug. The police told me to be glad he wasn’t harmed.
I too grabbed 2 Powerball tickets! As an old advertisement used to say, you’ve got to be in it to win it. Cash in as a lump sum, $300+ million, I could hand out $1 million to each family member and have enough to do some real good. Can’t take it with me.
Petite I hope ms Felix is ok. Jackie I hope you get a call back soon, or you’ll have to raise some hell. Mavericksmom it sounds like you’re doing good. Mary being busy as usual, it keeps us going. We haven’t heard from Keywestfan in quite a while, I’m hoping her recovery is on track and going well. Do I recall covid recovery as well? It’s a lot, so sending HUGS.
We leave in less than 2 weeks so it feels time is of the essence. I took down large (52”) mini blinds from the front bedroom - all painted and new window units in, because they were grungy. It was super sunny so after soaking & scrubbing I got them outside, hung over my gas grill - everything else has been put away. Today I’m thinking of using left over ceiling paint to do a fast skim coat on my living room radiator. Then we can dispose of the paint can too. No Dr appts today, near zero motivation for more than the radiator touch up. If I missed anyone, forgive me. I’m hoping you all have a great day!

MM, glad your path report was ok. BC doesn't spread from one breast to the other, but rather to lymph nodes, liver, bones, lungs & brain (depending on what type it is). If it's found in both breasts, the tumors are both primaries, independent of each other--and when bilateral, they're often different types. Hope you can ditch the drains soon.
Petite, I hope Miss Felix recovers, but in any case that she spends her days in as much comfort as possible.
Jackie, I hope you get an answer soon about your ear & eye.
We're back on the upswing of the weather roller-coaster--70s last weekend, then cold and drenching rains, even colder, and warming up again. Bob & I are both feeling back to normal, though I'm feeling unusually chilled, with lower body temps than usual. I may ask for a full thyroid hormone panel, because having a normal TSH level shouldn't make me feel like this. My L foot is still brutal--bunion (and now a hard but painless corn on the inside of the big toe, 2d toe hammering, 3rd toe-tip with painful callus over a spur) and ingrown big toenail. (My pedicurist showed me the huge sharp barbs she dug out of both toenails--I do Lamaze breathing when she digs in there lest I scream and freak out the other clients). My podiatrist's nurse wrote me back asking about my availability this week and next--I messaged her with dates & times but no reply. It's getting too cold out to go sockless in anything but UGG boots--but socks hurt. So there goes weightbearing exercise.

Rock and a hard place. Working hard at PT for hip replacement which was 6 weeks ago. Takes much time with all the exercises. But my dilemma , since hip on xray is well placed and fine except for a small amount of “heterotopic ossification(who knew such words?), which leads to stiffness and some inflammation. I need to resume taking Arimidex after a 4 month break. Am afraid of the inflammation and stiffness it will cause and not knowing whether the joint pain is from the hip or the pill. Had been on the pill for 3 years and must continue for 2 more. Worried about it's possible interaction with hip. Certain MO will say to resume. PT says wait 6 weeks to see if she can get stiffness and inflammation down with hip Surgeon advises anti inflammatory which I can't take due to low platelets..Guess I'll consult PCP and worry about it all.

Heterotopic ossification is growth of bone cells in the soft tissue outside the bone itself. It happens to 1/3 of hip replacement patients (and is sometimes present even before surgery. It's usually asymptomatic). Nobody knows the cause (though it is not uncommon after a large-bone fracture, but is less common among those who don't have strong bones), and though it can be prevented with radiation & NSAIDs (which you can't take), the only treatment is PT to keep the joint mobile by increasing the suppleness of the supporting tendons & ligaments. Odds are any stiffness you will develop is probably from resuming the AI, but there is no guarantee that you will experience stiffness & inflammation, period. (It might be that having ditched the AI slammed the brakes on the development of osteopenia or osteoporosis, and you form new bone at the rate you did before starting an AI). If Dr. M insists you resume AI, perhaps you need a second opinion. Given your age and the consequent unlikeliness of recurrence, you might be advised by some MOs that "rolling the dice" in favor of maintaining QOL might be worth any risk of resumption.
