My cats didn't get the daylight savings time message. One was gently touching me at 4:30 this morning. The other was trying to bite my hair. I eventually got up and gave them treats. They had plenty of food in the dish.

Welcome back from vacation taco. Glad you had a nice visit with you DD and family. Hope you get your drain out mavericksmom. That'll be such a relief. Hope your appointment goes well Illinois. Hope everyone else is doin well.

Had a productive morning. Got some cleaning done, took a walk around the lake in our neighborhood (saw a crane- it was beautiful) and made a podiatrist appointment. I have REIKI therapy this afternoon.

Next week, I'm going to try fascia message. My left foob is often painful. I've been reading about this type of massage for mastectomy patients and thought I'd give it a try. Has anyone had this type of massage?

    Enjoy your day.

It rained a little while, but now muggy. Looks like Florida has another storm coming. Just what we do not need. I have labs in the morning. DH has a cardiologist appointment on Weds. and I have a dentist appoint on Thursday. This week will fly.

I met with my MO PA this afternoon. And I’m done with anastrazole! Oh what joy. I will not miss this drug at all. I can’t wait for it to be out of my system, not sure how long that takes. The endocrinologist took me off of the alendronate sodium/fosamax generic. So the last prescription I still take is omeprazole. If I lose some weight and watch what I eat, I might have a shot at stopping it as well. Yet to be seen, but I can hope.

We’ve seen the weather forecast for Florida and it looks grim. My electric company has sent out information on how they’re preparing. I don’t have a date for my roof repair yet. Last was the insurance company going to call the roofer to negotiate. So hopeful this storm doesn’t do damage to the state.

We packed up the trunk today. Not a lot of room left in there for more. After Texas we’ll have room but boy oh boy the ride down it will be overloaded. We don’t leave until Wednesday.

I hope everyone’s procedures go well. My blood work, 5 vials, from MO wasn’t ready when I left the offices. I’ll have to go on the portal to see it. And last but not least:VOTE tomorrow if you haven’t already.

Rained hard Friday night, then the wind turned up from the SW and became a windstorm event. Steady winds 30-40mph with gusts up to 70. It lasted past sunset Sat. Next-door neighbor lost his fence; huge tree uprooted on the next block (still not cleared as of this a.m.). We didn't suffer any damage. Warmer yesterday, so I walked to the Armory (now an indoor city park) for early voting--stood in line >90 min., but got to watch some good volleyball in the gym as the line snaked slowly. Cooler today, warming up to 70 Wed. & Thurs. before the bottom drops out Fri. (high of 44) and we will have a hard freeze Fri. night through...whenever. Will pick the remaining cherry tomatoes Fri. morning to ripen on the sill. The basil is a lost cause.

We were supposed to have a Bar Show cast meeting downtown Sat. morning, but the NWS issued a "Severe Wind Warning" predicting "danger to life & property" and urging people to seek shelter away from windows (and not to drive "high profile vehicles" like SUVs). Since I drive an SUV and the train I would have taken instead is elevated, I decided that no meeting was worth life & limb. Half the cast felt the same, so the meeting was held via Zoom. It was a shocker: we lost the theater because its mgmt. admitted it couldn't find enough people to staff it. We were going to have to cancel the show until the Studebaker Theater (home of NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me") offered us Fri. & Sat. night--and possibly a Sat. matinee to make up for the loss of Thurs. (which is when NPR broadcasts "WWDTM"). We are hoping they'll sign the contract this week. Postponing the show would take us into blizzard/ice storm season and require a complete rewrite due to changes in current events. (Not to mention people having to cancel other commitments already made for Dec. through March). If we do get the Studebaker, it has a bar--and may offer a show-themed cocktail of which we'd get a cut of sales.

Voted early yesterday, because I have a routine dental appointment at 2 and vocal rehearsal at 6, both downtown. Parking for both (opposite ends of the Loop) would cost a fortune, so I'll take the train there and maybe a cab home. In between, a late lunch and maybe a little shopping at Macy's.

The most extraordinary thing about the oyster is this. Irritation gets into his shell. He does not like them. But when he cannot get rid of them, he uses the irritation to do the loveliest thing an oyster ever has the chance to do. If there are irritations in our lives today, there is only one prescription: make a pearl. It may have to be a pearl of patience but make a pearl.

Another day gone a bit awry, but not too badly. Had my ear appt. Can't believe that huge wad of wax the PA took out. No wonder I was not hearing. She said there was moisture in my ear and thought I had gotten it wet, but I'm not convinced about that. She gave me some drops just in case, but I haven't filled the prescription. I will wait until after we have voted tomorrow. She advises that I leave my hearing aid out when I put the drops in so back to not hearing much.

She did take a sample that will be tested, and she will let me know the results Thursday probably. If I'm not going to hear for a bit, I'd rather be home and not in places where I may be expected to answer a question or two. I also may wait in line and want to chat with neighbors, so I'll just wait. We had sun today but cool again. That is okay. I'm not really ready for the weather changes, but I never really am. I remain with feet and lower legs fairly cool. They never seem to warm up unless covered by my socks and shoes. I may be stuck with that. Other people having similar operations have said they too have 'cold legs and feet' now.

Hope you all had a marvelous Monday. Hoping the storms are not meek.

In spite of all the "noise", I think Arizona's early voting system is fantastic. I voted by mail several weeks ago. I am also able to track my ballot on line and know it has already been tabulated. There is no way I could have stood in line for 90 minutes. . Time to read the many referendum items as well as figure out all the judges who should/or shouldn't keep their jobs is easier at my dining room table too.. Nasty school board election in our district too. I think the last time I voted in person on Election Day was 2008. Took hours as we snaked through the dining room of a local independent living facility. I would have hated to be a diner during that chaos.

Just think, when the election commercials are over, we can hear more about our medicaid options and what medications we should be taking. Oh well, one of these days I will figure out how to tape TV programs.

My body hasn't adjusted to standard time. I woke up at 4:30, wide awake. I am still home recuperating, so I decided to just get up as I can take a nap later if I get tired.

I love voting by mail. My husband took his paper ballot to one of the box locations near our home, but I mailed mine early due to my surgery. NO WAY would I stand in line for hours!!!! That is the most ridiculous thing ever! Absolutely NO reason that should be happening today anywhere in the USA! There is a police officer guarding the ballot box, which this year was made out to be a form of intimidation on the news, not at our location, but another in PA. It has been that way for years and I never felt intimidated by it. First of all, it is a local police officer, secondly, they just monitor so people only put one ballot in the box, which I do find ironic because one year I mailed both my husband's and my ballot at the post office. That was years ago, and I was unaware that it could be a problem.

I like mail in voting because let's be honest, when it comes to "pick 9 judges" etc, who among us ever even heard of most of those people? I agree with Taco, voting from home I can look them up and at least make a more informed vote. Wishing everyone a good voting experience today if you vote in person!

My drain is finally out! Thank goodness! I go back Wednesday for my first expander fill. Not looking forward to that, but it is all part of the process. Today I start back on Letrozole too, but I am trying to avoid thinking about it and focus on other things, like retiring!

I am going to talk to my doctor about extending my disability time off from work. I just don't see myself being able to return to work the Monday after Thanksgiving. I hope I can get it extended a couple more weeks. If I had a job where I could sit down, I might be able to go back to work Nov 28th, but I am on my feet all day and actively working with kids. I had thought of waiting to go back after my next surgery, but that won't happen for months which is too long to stay out disability. So, I will go back and then go out a second time. Now the question becomes, do I take a second time off and go on disability or do I retire earlier than the end of the school year? I am leaning towards early retirement. I am going to contact my HR representative today.

We will go vote later on today. Be glad to be done with it. I was going to get my ear drops and start them but realized I have my appt. with Dr. Ang tomorrow for my colonoscopy results, so will wait till after that. I am not hearing as well as I'd like, but much better than I was so I don't want to dull it all down again by going w/o my hearing aid while I'm using drops. So it works out pretty much that I'll be waiting until Thurs. anyway -- and hope to find out then what the lab had to say about the 'fluid' sample sent to them. I may end up not needing the drops. I may need to go back into Audiology at Marion and re re-tested to have my aids adjusted up pretty much for my rt. ear.

Usual things around here otherwise. Doesn't seem to be too much wind outside so the coolness won't feel bad. Later on this week I may go make an appt. with Beth at the beauty shop. I'm way overdue for a haircut and likely will need a perm as well.

Hope you all have a great day. Stay warm and well.

Jackie: Can you just use the ear drops at night so you can wear your hearing aids during the day? To keep them from draining out, you can use a cotton ball while you sleep. Not sure of how often they are ordered to be used but this may be a solution if only used once a day.

Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day. I sat out on the patio and worked on reading through my pile of magazines. I have a small pile and have decreased the number of subscriptions I have so that I don't end up with a stockpile. Sunny with a slight breeze and in the 70's. Finished chicken wire fencing around the azaleas at the stream so they will be good now. No access for deer during the winter. Had Regan on her lead and secured it to a chair leg. She enjoyed the chance to explore.

Today is also sunny but will only be in the high 50's. Will try to get out later. Voted by mail and voted has been recorded according to online site. DH has to go vote yet. Hope everyone has a good day.

We voted by mail several weeks ago. Just one congressional candidate to vote for, so it was pretty straight forward on the ballot.

Heading out to have lunch with some friends. They’re former co-workers who are also retired. We’ve been meeting monthly for lunch for the last 6 years, since we all retired around the same time. Nice that we’ve kept in touch.

Mavericksmom - glad you got your drain out. Illinois- hope your ear feels better.

Petite - be safe from the storm.

Have a healthy and peaceful day.

Took the train to the dentist and a cab back home--was able to make myself brunch and kick back for a little while. (Couldn't handle hanging around downtown for 3 hrs.). Took the train back to the Bar Assn. for rehearsal, but got a rude awakening.

As of 3 pm, we were all set to go forward at the new Studebaker Theater Dec. 2 & 3--with an added matinee on the 3d. But the bad news came down at 5pm: the Bar Assn. refused to sponsor the show this year. It hasn't promoted the show as it had in years past, and doesn't believe the addition of a Sat. matinee would make up for the loss of our usual Thurs. night (which is when it usually hosts its annual President's reception and Member Night), not even with a cut of drink sales (our previous theater did not allow alcohol). We couldn't have Thurs. at the new theater because that's when NPR does "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me," so that's why the theater offered us the Sat. matinee for no extra rental fee. Ticket sales had been slow because of uncertainty over the theater dates and the lack of the usual publicity (due to our not having had a live show since 2019 and the public not being used to attending live theater post-pandemic), so the budget is $23K in the hole. We floated the idea of a last-minute fundraising blitz, but there would still be no guarantee that the Bar Assn. would be willing to go ahead with PR & sponsorship if it couldn't have its Dec. 1 party night. If we can secure the Jan/Feb date(s) (the new theater can give us a Thurs. if "Wait, Wait" is on hiatus), we will aggressively promote the show and rehearse our butts off.

No more election ads! At least not till the deadline for aldermanic & mayoral candidates to file nominating petitions for Feb.'s primary & Apr.'s election.

Good morning. It is gray and windy. I woke up a little after 5, my internal clock has not yet adjusted to time change. DH has his cardiologist appointment today. We might go out for lunch, depending on the weather. I think the dentist will probably cancel my appointment due to the storm, but not as yet. YAY! I am so glad the election ads are over!

Jackie, I LOVE your quote for the day! I feel the same most days, but todays seemed very appropriate!

I agree, woohoo, no more political ads!!!!! I dislike pharmaceutical and Medicare ads too, actually all ads, but I they don't make me angry like political ads do, so I will happily endure them!

Today I am sore but feeling pretty good. Not sure what to expect with my first expander fill, or how I will feel afterwards. All I know is it won't be worse than many other things I have gone through! Breast cancer does make us tougher and adds new perspective on many other health issues.

I hope my visit today will give me an idea of a schedule moving forward. I am still not sure when I will retire, prior to next surgery, or end of school year. Either way I am still bummed at leaving the kids and my team twice in one year! But, I need to put myself (and husband) first. I never did that before when I had to take medical leave. I had my gallbladder removed about three months after I came back to work from my first time with breast cancer. I didn't want my employer to know I had another medical issue, so I didn't tell anyone. I took two days off from work which was good, because my doctor kept me overnight due to my surgery being done late in the afternoon. I went back to work two days after my surgery. It was stupid of me to do that, but I was 20 years younger, and I didn't want my employer to think I was unhealthy. They say wisdom comes with age!

The sun is up and shining and that is always a good sign! Yesterday I got gas, then went to the grocery store to get a few items we needed. After that I stopped at my favorite "lottery store" to buy some tickets for a state game. When I went out to my car, the woman at the register came running out and knocked on my car window. Apparently when you buy 5 tickets to the state game, you get a free ticket to another state game. I thanked her, she is sooo sweet! This morning I saw someone won the 2.6 million to the game I play, so I scanned my tickets with my phone. No, I didn't win the big one, but that "free ticket" won $100! My five tickets yielded a whopping $7! I am going to give that woman $10 when I cash in my tickets, not sure she will accept, but she is so nice and didn't have to run that ticket out to my car. Do you think I should offer her more?

    Happy Wednesday everyone!

mavericksmom: I think she will be surprised by the $10 and that is so nice of you to tip her for chasing you down. Lucky you as well. Hope your first fill goes well.

I am so glad the political smear ads are gone and that I can now breathe again after the election results. It was a source of anxiety so I was staying off the TV except for Netflix and Peacock.

It is sunny but very cold today (40's) and will only warm up to the 50's. The 70 plus on Monday spoiled me and I would gladly welcome it back. Put out the Thanksgiving flags, swept the porches of leaves (will be glad when the last one falls), and am doing laundry. Have been in a rut and hoping today will help me break out of it; "my git up and go had got up and went". Regan sees vet tomorrow for her post-spay visit and should be cleared so she can then begin obedience classes. She will miss tonight's because this was the first visit we could schedule and needs proof of spay and vaccines for class. I will try to contact instructor to explain absence.

When we were in San Francisco we met a man on the trolley who volunteered on the Jeremiah O'Brien a Liberty ship in the harbor. He invited us to be his guests for a tour and we took him up on it because we had the free time. It was so indepth and we saw parts of the ship off limits to the general public. I sent him a card thanking him for this tour and he just sent us a card inviting us and two guests to take the cruise this ship offers in October or May. Again, he wants us to be his guests. If you ever go to SF please visit this Liberty ship because these men who volunteer have returned her to pristine condition and it is a wonderful piece of WWII history. Such a nice gesture and we may try to take him up on it. I like SF and we could always find other things to visit while there. October and May may be off season enough that we don't have to deal with the throngs of people. I think the cruises are for a weekend but will have to check out the details.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Jackie, I was thinking.... I lost my hearing after breast cancer, because I took Tamoxifen! I had to figure it all out myself, but I researched it, and found out it WAS permanent, and a lot of other women wound up with hearing loss also!

No matter what it was, I went to Costco, and have been going there for my hearing aids ever since I lost my hearing. I now have the re-chargeable hearing aids, and they work great!! They also give hearing tests, and you go from there!

I am just so thankful that I am now 85.... taking care of my DH who has dementia, and I can work in my gardens, drive back and forth to the store, and get out once in awhile!

And I really try and take care and not FALL again! Broke my hip once, got a rod, and after I healed from that, I'm good to go!!!

So take care gals, thank God that we all get another day, and pray for a million more tomorrows !!!

Oh my gosh, chevy ( Sunny ) you stay away too long. Sure is good to see you here although I do know that helping out with dementia can take a lot of time often. I don't think (but who can say anything totally for sure) that any of the drugs I took contributed to my hearing loss. All I know for sure is that at some point, I presume in addition to the normal wear and tear from getting up in yrs., I developed a hole in my right eardrum. After a yr. of tests, and seeing V.A. Docs I was told that I could have the hole repaired but didn't have to if I didn't want to IF I kept my ears dry during showers, washing my hair, or swimming. No matter what my hearing had reached a stage where I would need to wear hearing aids anyway -- so why have an operation. I'm glad I didn't.

Yay -- as suspected, the polyp removed from my colon was a nothing polyp, so I'm officially categorized as not needing any more colonoscopies. Of course, if something changed, but I think I am fine. I am always glad to be friends with a Dr. rather than their patient.

And yes, yes, yes. Getting another day is always a blessing and we want lots more for everyone.

Not sure where the day has gone but here I am, late afternoon catching up. I made a Costco run this morning, just for a handful of things. Was in and out pretty quickly. Made a chicken casserole for dinner tonight. DH likes to grill out, but it’s getting darker and cooler, so I think it’s time to switch to our cooler weather menu.

Starting to get lots of emails and phone calls about Medicare and Medicare insurance and services. I don’t plan on changing any of my coverage from last year, but it seems to be more in number than last year. And that doesn’t include the mail that we get daily.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

On the road again…we left this morning and we’re in Fairport, NY at partners brothers home. We went into the village, on the canal, and it’s such a cool place. Toured Iron Smoke Distillery, it’s like a speak easy inside. Fancy bourbon drinks all around. Someone had a vision, and the rest of us get to enjoy it. Then we stopped at TripHammer brewery, great beers & popcorn. Peeked in TinCup before dinner at an Italian restaurant, Compane Trattoria. I’d recommend every place at the Cannery - old canning warehouse turned in multiple establishments.

Mavericksmom- my dad, passed away 19 years now, always told me to kick back 10% to the one who sold you the winning ticket. I’ve done it a few times with football/Super Bowl pools and things like that - which were on the most part to bartenders. So $10 to the clerk who ran out to make sure you had the extra ticket I’d bet will appreciated!

Ladies it sounds like everyone has things under control. Sandy, sadly it doesn’t seem like the event will happen. Petite, I’m hoping Nicole doesn’t do damage and everyone gets through it ok.

Next stop Medina, Ohio. Good night.

I woke up around 4AM and I couldn't sleep again! I hate when I wake up and can't get back to sleep! The longer I lay in bed, the more my mind rushes to things that terrify me, and I can't control.

I need to come up with a plan for the next stage of my life, retirement. I want to work at something, just not my current job. I also want to help get the Lymphedema Treatment Act passed into law! Too many of us suffer with this and insurance companies don't want to pay for any treatments! Medicare is especially non-supportive of lymphedema patients!

I hate that my middle-of-the-night thoughts always seem to focus on my fears, like how we will afford to do needed repairs to our home, will we ever see our son and his family again, etc. In the morning those things don't enter my mind. Of course, there are ways we can afford to make repairs to our house and see our son again, but in the wee hours of the morning, doom and gloom seem abundant. I wonder why that is?

Anyway, I am up, wide awake and not thinking negative thoughts, just annoyed that they caused me to wake up way too early! I think I never got much sleep after 2:30.

My first "fill" of the expander went well. The doctor faxed note to HR to extend my time off, thank goodness. Parking at the hospital was horrendous again and I used my DH's handicapped placard. Thank goodness for that! I will be very happy when I feel well enough to walk a long distance and don't need to park in a handicapped spot!

Sandy, so sorry to read about your show! I do hope things work out for you!

Petite, it doesn't sound like the hurricane will be as bad as the last one. I hope you can hunker down without losing power or having any damage to your home or property! My DS and BIL will head to Florida after Thanksgiving. They have a place in Naples. My DH's sister also has a place on the gulf coast and will also go south after Thanksgiving.

Today is supposed to be beautiful, tomorrow and Saturday, not so much! That is when the hurricane is supposed to bring a lot of rain to the east coast, which honestly, we can use! I might go to the grocery store today so I don't have to go on Saturday morning. I don't need much, just bread, milk and a few other things.

Some people are more vulnerable to ototoxins than others. I had a hunch that my hearing loss was from smoking. I switched to vaping, gradually reduced the nicotine until I was vaping unflavored juice, then quit. Somewhere in that line of events, the loss slowed to a crawl.

Internet was down yesterday from noon to 8:00. I was sleepy at seven, dog was telling me that it was bedtime, so I went to bed at 8:00. I woke up at 5:30. I think that once I get some things done, I will go back to sleep. Mavericksmom, I have just started using THC/CBD gummies. I am working out what is best. I think I will be cutting them into fourths and taking one fourth every time I wake up. My bedtime meds that help me sleep wear off in the early morning.

I can go straight through the day sewing without interferences.

Hi, Chevy! It was delightful having you check in! I'm sorry to learn your dh has dementia and glad to know that you're still gardening. I hope your daughters and grandsons are doing well and keeping tabs on you.

    I miss you and Cammi.

DH is just back from having blood work done and complaining about the traffic. Our once quaint north shore is overrun with increased population. The charm is gone and forest after forest is toppled for development. We plan our routes and our times to venture out as much as possible to minimize having to deal with the traffic.

Betrayal, I agree TV is too stressful. I will watch a movie and some programs (not news). I have been watching the weather to keep an eye on Nicole.

It is very windy, dark and raining. The eye should pass over my area about 1:00 pm this afternoon and then out in the Gulf and back to continue it's path to the North. The power is still on, so far. It is a good day for comfy clothes.

Cindy stay safe driving in this mess.

Beautiful sun which I mis-spelled as sin, (hmmmm, what to make of that) this morning but some wind. Not sure about temps, but yesterdays were nice. Hopefully, the same today. Carole, I'm not sure, but I think possibly Cammi passed on a few months ago. I will have to ask Chevy. Maybe she will get back on here and let us know. They were so funny together.

MC, sure sounds like you have a pretty fair control of you sleep and how to maintain Sure hoping that continues for you.

I usually can go back to sleep since I wake up two to three times during the night to go to the bathroom. Use to roll over and drift back into sleep but my Urologist says it is better for me with only one kidney to go if I can easily feel the sensation. I have tried to develop the habit on the few occasions that I am not able to return to sleep, at least right away, to think of pleasant things that have taken place in my life and re-live them, while breathing a little deeper. It doesn't always work well, but it keeps me from a negative line of thoughts. If that doesn't do it, I get up, turn on the big t.v. in the living room, snuggle into a lap robe and lean my recliner back with my eyes closed. I wake up some time later. It is not my best sleep, but at least I'm not drifting in un-productive thought.

Petite, hoping the weather for you is not too bad or stressful. I hope it is going to be not too harsh for anyone in the path. Sort of wonder, if and when we reach a plateau on weather what it will be because it really is not very good for so many people. When we came back home here in 1997, 25 yrs. ago it seemed so much nicer. Only used a/c for a month and a half in summer. Summer days were gorgeous and temps. just right. Rain usually was fairly brief with just enough rain and the cleanest, nicest smell afterwards. Close to my idea of perfect. Sure isn't like that anymore.

Hope you all have a good day.

Tweedle, I post the quotes almost always, (today being no exception) that resonate deeply inside of me. To me having earth life is like going to school which we do for years, only in life after school, we are grading ourselves -- trying to find the best that is in each of us, through looking to make each day one we can look back on and feel relatively satisfied about. If we do okay, that is fantastic, If not and if fortunate we have the next day to work on some sort of improvement that helps us and if it helps us, it likely helps others.

I hope you come back and share with us, but just coming to BC. Org is a big help very likely. Being with those who have the same kind of journey/disease process can be comforting. I post a quote daily so even if you don't want to pose here, I hope you will come to see the quote.

Hugs to you on your journey. We are here for you.
