Chris, I will heed your advice about the Egyptian dresses though I am hoping the gold figures on them will not wash off. I'll use a handwash cycle on my machine. I think your silks are lovely and you are a trend setter for wearing them. I have reached a point in my life where my style is what I want to wear and not necessarily what is the latest fad. I really like to be comfortable, too.
Today is another lovely day with mild breezes, lower temp than yesterday and really low humidity. Dh and I managed to finish the hill section I had planned for today. We filled 1-1/2 large leaf bags and the hill looks much better, however, there is a lot of bare ground now. I have to see what I can do about that.
I plan on mulching the fenced in landscaped area tomorrow and I need to put a few bags down on the daffodil bed. That should pretty much take care of most of the mulch I have left. I may have DH make a trip to Home Depot if we need more since I want to finish the landscaped area at the bottom of the front hill.
The hill is a steep incline and I made a stupid move after retrieving my weed pile and throwing it onto the lawn for DH to bag. I went down sideways and when I reached this one section it was uneven when I stepped down and down I went. I hit my left shoulder on the rock walls we have around the bed and fortunately I landed on dirt so my back is fine. So my dignity hurt more than anything else. I am sure I will feel it tomorrow, but I plan on soaking in the jetted tub after I finish power washing the patio.
I already power washed the one patio table and chair set because they had so much pollen stuck to them and they look great. I've done about 1/3 of the patio, it looks so much cleaner and I'm only using water on the flagstone. I want DH to work on installing the edging for the patio blocks tomorrow. I can assist, but he needs to do the work.
So we have spent the better part of the day working outside while this great weather lasts. I have appointments on Monday and Tuesday, so I'm not sure how much gardening I'll be able to do. And the hot weather is to return on Tuesday for our next round of climate change.
As far as climate change, I have lived in this house for 41 years and for the first 10 we seldom used the air conditioner and slept with the windows open at night. We could not do that now and I can see the changes in the flora since we moved here.
Took a break for lunch and went out to finish power washing patio. Had to do a second pass on patio chair legs because I didn't get all the pollen off on the first try. Love my power washer! The patio looks great. DH volunteered to put all the plants and furniture back in place. I offered to assist him, but got turned down.
Ferns arrived today so I will plant them tomorrow. I bought 10 bare roots, so they won't take long to plant.

My DD does our yardwork now. She lives in the walk-out basement so this is her world, and she loves it. Our back yard buts up against the open space in the housing tract so it feels larger and open. I wish I had the energy to work it myself, but that ship has sailed.

Betrayal - I too can't believe people continue to deny climate change. I fear for today's children. Arizona is going to run out of water and we continue to encourage data centers and more population.

Sandy used to post on the What's for Dinner? thread but hasn't in quite a while. I, too, hopes she is ok but too busy to post. After the extensive renovation of her home, things went wrong. At that point she stopped posting.
We had good sales yesterday at the farmers market. It got hot, 80's, but not unbearable. Today is supposed to be hotter. We won't open up the 5th wheel camper this morning. Better to keep the cool air inside and the a/c set to come on when it heats up outside. It looks hazy outside. We're wondering if the haze is smoke.
My gardening will be tending the plants on the deck. If the haze isn't smoke, I will take a two-mile walk that includes some hills. Walking up the last hill on my way home always gets my heartbeat up.
Summer in MN is half over for us.

Carole, visibility was limited first thing this morning. And Tippy was complaining about smoke. I took a couple of gulps off my inhaler before Mass. Got there, and was short of breath all the way through (incense, though). After, friends asked me what was wrong. I got the inhaler out, shook it well, and told them that I had forgotten to shake it. Sharon said, "That is VERY important." So, yes, they should have put warnings up. However, the heat alone is enough to warn vulnerable people to stay inside.

Betrayal, I was sorry to hear you took a tumble. I’m hoping a soak in your jetted tub helps out. I was pulling weeds today, sitting on a cushion. As I moved along, in the stones, at one point I rolled backwards into the landscaping! I’m fine, and just happy no one could see me.
Intolight, the landscaping looks great, as does your home. Nice pictures.
Chris, inhalers can’t get too cold and can’t get too hot. Plus, as you learned, need to be shaken.

We were up way too early yesterday, as family got ready to leave. We emptied the camp, packed up our cars and left. We were bringing things to BIL home, which was about a half an hour away. Filled up with gas at BJ's on our way there, even with discount we paid $4.05; over $57 to fill. Drive home was about 3.5 hours. We were both exhausted. After unpacking the car, laundry and putting things away - within 2 hours I had to take a nap. Slept 1.5 hours!
That was oddball sleep … I was exhausted and nearly asleep sitting up by midnight. I went to bed 12:30-1. and slept until 6:30 AM which wasn’t enough sleep for me. I’m guessing I’ll be screwed up sleep wise for another day.
This morning I did get out for a walk at the park, after I took care of everything here - pool & garden. Then a stop at Sherwin Williams to dispose of paint. Ended up buying paint for my doors from them. It was 30% off but still cost me $43, for a quart! I told the kid it was a good thing I didn’t need a gallon.
Back home with that and back out. SO isn’t feeling great, thinks the beginning of something so I went out for DayQuil. Stopped at Home Depot for Rustoleum to do the wrought iron hand rails. That too was expensive, but not as bad as the door paint; $17.99 a quart. I really only wanted a pint but they don’t make them anymore; or they don’t carry them. Either way, I’m going to have a lot leftover. I must be living under a rock, paint prices were astounding.
I ate and rested. Then pulled the weeds as mentioned above.
Grabbing something from leftovers and calling it dinner. I hope you all enjoyed your Sunday!

Chris, no instructions on the dresses other than to say they are 100% Egyptian cotton. I have them pinned up and I need to cut off about 4 inches on both so am considering hemming them anyway and then washing. They are long so if they shrink about an inch they will still be okay. Thanks for offering the washing instructions. I'll let you know how they turn out. I will hang them to dry.
The smoke from the fires is a problem for anyone with respiratory issues and even those without, because the particles in the smoke if inhaled, can cause permanent lung damage. Wear a mask so you don't develop lung disease. Struggling to breathe is not fun nor is having to use an inhaler. I stopped using mine due to side effects involving raspy voice from vocal cord issues, sore throat, and loss of taste buds. I will see the pulmonary guy in September. I had discussed stopping with the NP when I saw her and she had no issue with my stopping.
Today was a lovely day again with lower temps about 80, low humidity and a light breeze. I received the ostrich ferns I had ordered from a place in TN. They are bare roots and came with very good planting instructions. I had ordered 10, but they very nicely sent me about 13. They are all planted and I found two of the transplants that I had missed planting, so they were planted as well. DH watered them well for me while I worked on pulling the Beggar's Lice weeds from the fenced in landscaped bed. It needs to be mulched, but I ran out of steam today.
I also finished up power washing a few slates on the patio and gave the patio chairs another wash since that pollen was hard to remove even with the power washer. I'm thinking of using a gloss paint on the chairs to inhibit the pollen stains.
Tomorrow I have PT, so I may just do some inside house cleaning which gets relegated to later when I am gardening. I do keep up with dusting and sweeping, but need to pull out the vacuum. I should only have pets that don't shed, moult, or bring in dirt from the outside, lol.

My search on FB, using my SO’s page - I’m not on FB, for Sandy: I found her page and the last post I could see, she might have it locked down, was a post from July 14; an update to her profile picture. She looked good. But that’s all I can tell. My guess is she’s busy.
I also checked out Gordy’s site, and he posts many concerts and musical events. No mention of Sandy or Bob, so again guessing she’s just busy with life.

Thanks Cindy. I looked here and she hasn't posted since mid-April on any site as far as I can tell. But I'm not the smartest techie.
Yes, it's hot here - over 115 this weekend and more humid than usual. The Tuscon area and parts east of Phoenix are getting big rains but it petters out before it gets here. We just get the haboobs (big dust storms that I may not be spelling right). Really hard on the dogs. We've put out pee pads which Bella used in her other home but so far they are dry.
I played golf Tuesday and Thursday but we cancelled today. Next week is supposed to be a little cooler. I only play 9 and use an ice towel. My personal "rule" is that I won't start if it's supposed to be hotter than 100 before I finish. I carry both water and lemonade flavored with cranberry/apple juice. I probably work up less of a sweat than you gardeners do. My shirt gets wet mainly from the melting ice in the neck wrap.
Now that my "book" is finished, I'm back to reading, genealogy, and writing "get out the vote postcards" for mailing right before early voting starts. So many volunteers helped with my campaigns that it's the least I can do. I'm really pleased with my knee but I don't think I should do door to door campaigning. Walking the dogs is enough.
Be careful of the smoke if it's heading your way.

When dh gets chunks of tree trunks for turning bowls, he paints the exposed grain. He found a quart at Ace's Hardware in the sale bin for $6. He has accumulated quite a bit of wood this summer. I worry a little about the weight.

Everyone sounds very busy! I’m just going along with the summer. Still volunteering, going to the gym and riding my bike as weather and smoke haze allow (meaning not as often as I would like), and occasionally weeding the garden beds. My grandniece was married last Friday and it was a lovely evening. Most of my family was there and I enjoyed visiting with them. The wedding also meant that my son was home for two days so I was in heaven.
Thinking of all who are undergoing treatment, tests and waiting on results.

Taco, 115! I like it warm in winter, but your temp is through the roof in sunmer! My gf has ordered postcards and we’ll get together to fill out & address them. I too don’t like doing door to door. I hate being interrupted myself so I don’t like interrupting others. I’ll stuff envelopes, make calls for rides, but leave me off of the list for door to door.
Carole, I’ve got 2 pint cans of Rustoleum pro enamel in “aluminum” as the color. But I have no recall of ever buying them, nor what I possibly wanted them for. If I could send them to your DH, I would!Chris, I was thinking Indian saris and I could ask a friend. But Egyptian cotton with the gold, no idea.

Another early wake up this morning. I went to the park but humidity and a hot sun were killing me. So I looped around willy nilly in the shaded parts of the park. Then had to track back through full sun to get to my car - I did deviate off path to walk under shade. I must have looked like a nut, but hopefully others were to preoccupied with their walks to notice mine.Afterwards I went to a private fence company to get some prices. I’ll preempt my story by saying vinyl fence is now cheaper than wood. To get 2 panels that dowel into the post, with 2 posts, $877. To get 2 panels without dowels and 2 plain 4x4 posts, $239. I then stopped at Lowe’s and their rough panels, no dowel, were $55; I couldn’t see the post price. Tonight I went to Home Depot and purchased 2 pressure treated fence panels, 2 - 4x4 posts, and added in a bag of Quikrete fast setting concrete for the posts; total $179.17 with a $15 discount. My godson is picking it up tomorrow for me.
Yes, I have the money from the insurance company but I still found the prices astronomical. That $877 price wasn’t installing them either. Maybe tariffs on Canadian lumber?
I also asked about a repair to my vinyl fence gate - they don’t make gates, nor repair them. Back to square one on that.
Tomorrow the driveway is getting the commercial “hot crack” filler. I’m parked on the side street because I don’t want to be stuck in the driveway.
I wanted to go get my bloodwork this morning. But as I was brushing my teeth I realized I ate breakfast. So I’d like to try to get it done tomorrow. When I set up my morning meds and Benefiber water tonight, I’m not putting a Cliff bar out tonight. Fingers crossed I can get up & get out the door.Hoping everyone is safe from storms. Stay safe!

Good morning. Wednesday, my niece and I are heading to the cabin. I can't wait. I missed it. There have been 3 showings at my house. Mostly younger people looking to retire to Florida. So, no one is in a hurry. The purging has been very tiring and plays on my emotions. I didn't do anything much yesterday. My arthritis was extremely painful, especially in my right hand. I am not sure what I am going to work on today, other than packing.

Even though people may be well known, they hold in their hearts the emotions of a simple person for the moments that are the most important of those we know on earth: birth, marriage and death.

How does one live at 115 degrees - carefully. Too many die every summer because of heat exhaustion, sometimes from stupidity (like hiking the Grand Canyon or Camelback Mountain) but usually from lack of access to hydration and cooling. The area is better at opening public places with air conditioning for longer hours than it used to be. It is too hot to be out for extended hours. I noticed the landscapers were very careful to rest often in the shade and carry lots of water. Very hard for the unsheltered, even at night when lately it hasn't gotten below 90. It is definitely hotter than when we moved here 30 years ago. It's a problem which can only get worse and is compounded by the draught the west is experiencing.
In my opinion, one of the stupidest things the state does is send kids back to school in August. So walking to and from school is a hazard and there is no outside recess. The football teams practice however.
We've lived in Fairbanks and Phoenix, and I'll take here though. In both places, we had the resources to protect us from the extremes but not everyone does. Very sad.

cindyny, you seem to have a never ending list of chores, too. Good luck with the fencing and gate. I am sure you will find a solution for it.
As soon as I think the end is in sight, I find a new project. Next is re-enforcing the blocks surround the patio, then sanding the cracks between the flagstones one the walls are done, and transplanting ferns plus continuing my ongoing battle to eliminate weeds. DH is re-webbing two chairs we have in the firepit area and he is dawdling. I also need to finish painting the large butterfly I started several years ago and never finished. I may have to start all over.
Yesterday was a busy day between running to the lymphedema PT, then coming home to meet with landscaper for a talk about the area I want him to do. He had his manager with him who did my new walkway, reset my flagstone patio, rebuilt the stone wall that abuts the patio and supervised this hill's plantings last year. I showed them the firepit area with a small piled stone wall I assembled from the leftover pavers and stone from their jobs and he jokingly offered me a job. I told them I watched to see what they did and then repeated their steps one by one. They will be back to do the work and I'm waiting for a quote for the work. They are efficient so it shouldn't take more than 2 days, if that. I need to move some ferns to the original fern bed because they are currently in the way.
After they left we ran to Ikea for a Swedish meatball meal fix and were disappointed to find they did not have their frozen yogurt cones temporarily. So after finishing our shopping, I took the longer way home with a pit stop at DQ for a Peanut Buster Parfait for me and a milkshake for DH. Last stop was the local Dollar store, which hasn't sold for a dollar for a dog's age, but I got some birthday cards and other odds and ends. The one item I was going to send DH there for I could not remember even after walking around the store.
Today I had a dental appointment, made arrangements to meet DS at Costco, so we headed there. I didn't need much in terms of groceries, but we were getting low on kitty litter and dog treats. We grabbed hot dogs for lunch and they were good. DS had to go to a meeting, so I paid for his food so he could leave and then we were able to leisurely travel through the store.
I got some Campari tomatoes, some mini cukes and some peppers to make salads with since I am avoiding lettuce at this time. They are easier to watch and so far, I don't think they are involved in this outbreak of Cyclospora. I used to buy Earthbound lettuce because it lasted for a long time, but since it is one of the lettuces provided by Taylor Farms I won't buy it again.
I got a rotisserie chicken for dinner and it was really good, with Stovetop stuffing and some frozen mixed vegetables. It was quick and easy.
No gardening today because it was too hot, we had a downpour just as we arrived at Costco and got drenched. When we came out the rain had stopped, but the humidity slapped you in the face. Now I am listening to the rumbles of thunder and waiting for the next storm to pass through. We need the rain, it has been lovely, but the ground is very dry.
Got gas at Costco because I need premium and it was more than a dollar cheaper per gallon there, than at any other stations. I don't drive much so a full tank lasts me awhile, but I feel for those who have fill their tanks frequently.

So, the lab at the hospital where I get my port labs and infusion apparently lost/dropped/mis-labeled or somehow ruined the stat blood draw I had taken at 11:00 am. Three hours later the nurse found my DH and I in the waiting room and told me they would have to retake the draw. Fortunately I still had my port accessed so it was not difficult and they took me back to the chemo room to await the results. One hour later we finally got the results (which usually get posted in 20 minutes) and proceded with the infusion. Several of the nurses all came by and said hello—I am a frequent customer! We finally were out by 5:00 and went to the valet parking station to get our car (My DH usually self-parks but we couldn't find a parking space. ) We ended up waiting in the car while a man who went around and pulled in front of us load a lady in a wheelchair into his car having blocked the entire drop-off circle. I appreciate his thoroughness to make sure she was safe as it was a family van not equipped for a wheelchair and he had ropes and straps inside, etc. Anyways, we finally arrived at home safely, made leftover roast beef sandwiches, and now I am resting watching a Hallmark movie. Do you think someone is trying to tell me to slow down?

I’m up with the chickens at 5:30. The rain is coming down in buckets hitting the house. But I think it was work traffic noise, on such a wet road that woke me up. Lots of trucks going by that I’ve never noticed because I should be asleep!
Godson, and his son, were able to pick up the fence panels and posts yesterday but in the pouring rain. They’re in my garage so later I’ll investigate to see if there are any signs of it drying out. I need it to dry so the handyman can stain it. Weather thru Friday is in the flash flood zone of rain. It’s looking more and more like the garage work may get put off until who knows when.
The driveway was supposed to get a hot crack fill yesterday. It rained a good chunk of the day and it wasn’t done. That too will get put off for another week I’d bet.
Problems with everything getting pushed out is we leave on Saturday for Cape Cod. I even saw today an email telling me my prescription for naproxen will be delivered 8/3-8/7, while we’re gone. I’m venting. I don’t like getting up with 4 hours of sleep to flash flood warnings.
Weather has been on the crappy side all summer. A few real nice days, surrounded by a heat dome where I didn’t want to be outside for anything, and then rain. I bet I’ve emptied more water from my pool than I’ve used to fill it up.
Betrayal, I hope your PT is giving you relief. You’ve got more projects going! I hope you get to sit outside and enjoy your surroundings, the fruits of your labor.
Intolight. it does seem like a sign that “the gods” wanted you to slow down. I had bloodwork yesterday, and fortunately it wasn’t lost …that I know of. But I’ve had times when I needed to go back and have it done again. What a pain.
Taco, I get that your temps have increased over the 30 years. I bought a hibiscus plant that said it’s not for zones 1-4. Well, we used to be zone 4. I thought we were now zone 5, but upon looking it up we’re listed as zone 6a. My plant should survive the winter.
My phone and SO’s phone are going nuts. Critical flood watch - do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing. Looking out my window I don’t think it’s that bad in my immediate area, but there are hidden creeks that overflow etc in storms like this. I’m not going anywhere.

PS - our main road is flooded at an underpass. Two cars are submerged. Hence, the truck noise on my street is due to the main road closure. And my street - kitty corner to my house, a hidden creek, filled their side yard like a lake. And it too has flooded one lane and is encroaching on the other lane.

@cindyny Oh my, please stay home. Flash floods are dangerous. I had not thought about planting zones changing in global warning. I will need to check mine…I thought we have been 6a but I just looked it up and we are now 5b. It could also be that I was not accurate with my 6a as we are close to where it changes. Annual potted plants die but potted perrennials don't always always survive either. My DH brings the perrennials into the garage for the winter. Some have come back this year but aren't flourishing. Our perrennials in the ground do great because we had the landscapers consult with us on what we planted two years ago. That is one reason our yard looks so good. My roses are flourishing!

The main road must have opened because we’re back to normal traffic. Intolight, I wasn’t going anywhere!
My sister sleeps with her phone next to her. She said she wanted to throw it across the room when all the alerts were going off. I think they went off by 6:30.
Gf’s strep daughter has 6-8” of water in her basement.
Gf said her sump pump was working OT, constant running.I haven’t ventured out to the pool. I know I’ll need to drain water out of it.
But we’re all good!

Today was warmer with some more humidity after yesterday's gully washer storm. However, there was a wonderful breeze so it made working in the garden almost pleasurable. I pulled 1.5 large leaf bags of weeds from the area leading into my secret garden and then worked my way down to the lower section of this area doing another pass at weeding. I worked on getting this invasive vine off my one bush (it grows wild so I have no idea what it is) and cut the vine that is climbing up the young tree. I am hoping by cutting it that it will just die off and fall off the tree. I threw the vine into the wooded area that separates us from the neighbor since the vine originates from there. They have no interest in taking care of this area, hence it sometimes looks like a jungle. I keep my side tidy where I can.
Then I transplanted ferns from the area where the landscaper will install new plantings to the first fern bed I ever started over 35 years ago. These ferns grew wild on the road edge of the property next door. The house is over 200 years old and was a sad looking rental for many years. Someone had stuccoed over the original stone home and painted it white. The last couple that lived there were good stewards and took care of their yard.
I used to drag my children's red wagon around the curve in the road (back when it was safe to walk on our road) and take ferns from the densest areas so as to not deplete them. I'd fill the wagon and then put them in this one bed in the secret garden opposite the stone wall here. I have used this bed as a source of ferns for other areas in the yard, but there were several areas where they started to thin, so I filled them today. When the developer built a house up the hill to. the right of us, he cleared out all the roadside natural plants so it is a good thing I took the ferns when I did.
Today I moved one massive one and 8 others I dug out where the landscapers will work. I moved one to the other side of the flagstone walkway at the start of it. The massive one I moved up the hill and it was so darn heavy I could barely move it. I had 6 smaller ones I inserted in sparse areas and hope they will fill in. I added some peat moss to the soil, too. Then I watered them. I was out there for about 3 hours working and now am inside working on 2 loads of laundry. The first is already in the washer.
The landscaper called with a quote on installing 17 plants and mulching. It's a good price for what they have to do and he told me that he will replace the one bush that seems to have died off from last year's plantings under warranty. He's ordering the plants and will get back to me with a start date.
I have a few more ferns I want to move from this area prior to them starting and I need to mulch the bed they did last year. DH is going to create an opening on the lower end of this bed so I can easily access this section for mulching. The hill is really steep, so footing is an issue when you are trying to weed or mulch. Trying to do it from the top section is hard.
I am hoping tomorrow is as nice or even nicer than today so I can continue to beat back the weeds and make some headway. DH is working on the 2 chairs that need re-webbing and its been a challenge for him. Dinner tonight is leftover quiche with a salad of tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.
DH went to PT to have his knee evaluated. He has arthritis in it and he's been limping. Not a candidate for TKR yet. He took forever to make an appointment with ortho to even get to this point, so we are making headway finally. Told him I was not going to listen to his complaints, if he didn't take action. He's a real procrastinator at times like this.

DH texted me from the golf course yesterday that he had a hole in one on number 4. He got a little statuette and his picture will be on Eagle View's Facebook page. This is his third hole in one during his golfing years. He enjoyed the attention and bought beverages for all the guys afterwards.
The owner of Pine Hollow Resort, our small campground, has been telling dh in private that changes will be coming. It sounds like the resort will be phasing out the campground. The younger owners, (son and family) will be moving here and the present older owners will be spending winters elsewhere. It's all hush hush and is not supposed to affect us or Mary and Lyman, our neighbors. I live day by day, so it doesn't worry me. I could be content staying home now that climate change is doing its thing with summer weather.
I will play women's league golf today, only 9 holes. It's a small friendly group and I play primarily for the social aspect.

All blame is a waste of time. No matter how much fault you find with another, and regardless of how much you blame him, it will not change you. The only thing blame does is to keep the focus off you when you are looking for... reasons to explain your unhappiness or frustration.
