Is there a chance that some of us can get together for coffee in the Chicago area? Mike and I will be flying in on Wednesday April 16 to see our daughter Allison. We leave on Tuesday April 22nd. Other than a fun Weird Chicago Roaring 20's tour on Friday evening the 18th and church + brunch in Evanston on Easter Sunday, I have no plans. I'm willing to drive an hour in any direction to meet you.

    Anyone?

Chevy...I had the mammosite device for radiation.  I had the balloon put in a week after my lumpecatomy. Then I went twice a day (once early morning and then again late afternoon) for a week. I feel lucky to be able to have this type of radiation.
Hope your DH is feeling better soon. Take care of yourself and don't overdue

Sandra, even if you were driving an hour, I'd still have to drive at least three to three and a half.....but there are a lot of gals in the Chicago area.  I am on the Illinois Ladies thread which is all women from Illinois.  I don't know how many may be on our Forum too..........but Rita started the Illinois Ladies thread.  She is from the Bloomington area.....so a stretch for her as well.  I'll try and see is I can figure out how to put I a link for the Illinois thread here for you.

    Blessings

Ok, Sandra.  I think this will get you there.  Cammi is up in the Chicago area and there are lots of others.  You can always put out some feelers and tell people about where you will be and if they might like to have a lunch or whatever.  Others have done it.

    Blessings

Hey Texas girls!  I guess that means we better get busy and get a thread started if there isn't one out there!  We can't let Illinois get together without us tagging along. Besides, they do have cinnamon rolls!

My little brother lives in Chicago and I need to go see him. He's having a hard time accepting my illness. He is still in big denial.  Guess I'll check out Illinois later this year!

I'll be in Chicago...but not until end of June. DS is there.  So, those who are there, let me know what I should not miss.  I was there once before and I went to the museums on the lake.  And a wedding.

LB, I found that my boys had a harder time than my girls in acceptance (all adults).  I think my daughters were preoccupied with "is this hereditary?"

Oh darn it, Sandra.  I would love to drive up to Chicago to meet you but we are going to Oxford, Mississippi that week to my son's house for Easter.  We are driving back on the 21st so that won't work for me.  I loved your picture at the walk and you look so good!

Welcome to all the new gals.  You have found a good place to come!

Sandra - Sorry.  Chicago is five hours for me.  I might have considered it, but am happily going west to visit my son in Des Moines IA.  It would sure be fun.

Jackie....I love the pictures of your deck!  It looks so cool, shady and comfortable.

Mimi.....I envy you finding your passion which also makes children so happy.  The look in that little girl's eyes is priceless.

Sandra.....Love the picture of you and your DH at the BC walk.  Did you walk or run 5k? My DIL has asked me to walk a 5k for childhood cancer next month.

Thank you for sharing your pictures, ladies!

Mommarch.....Florida is definitely a strange place when it comes to justice.  I would bet (and hope) that things will change in your favor when they receive the home visit report.

Quiet day for us before a very busy week ahead.  The weather is supposed to stay in the upper 60s low 70s all week so that will be a treat!

This is soooo cute!  One of the gals on the Insomnia thread posted it!  But the look at that little girls face, is just priceless!  And look at her hands!  What a little Dolly

Okay, Mommarch.... I love you guys... You never give up!  You can't!   Things just somehow have to work out right for you!

And Termite, I remember that!  Yes, weren't you just so tired after it was all over?   I didn't think that weeks worth of radiation would have that same effect, and the longer bout of rads, but it DID!   We were so lucky we could get it that way.... I was told they were coming out with even BETTER ways of giving radiation!

Yes, I had a "temporary" one implanted, I guess to save the "space" but then it was taken out, and another "prototype" was put in.... whatever that is.   Wasn't it just delightful when they pulled it out?  "A little sting????"    OMG I thought for a second there, that thing was connected to my foot, it hurt so bad! Takes your breath right away!    But we made it kid!

Hi LuvMaui!  Guess I missed welcoming you!  So me, with all the intelligence in the world, surmize that you love Maui?  Am I correct?    I haven't been there, but I watch Dog the Bounty  Hunter, so that must count for something?  Ha!  Close anyway!

Okay gals....  xoxoxoxoxoxo  Have a fun beginning of the week!

    Welcome to luvmaui!!!!

Hi Chevy...I've been missing your cheery posts!  Glad you're back!  That picture is really precious and that little gal is just so darn cute!

It looks like we're going to have a good day today in Central Illinois after all.  They were predicting rain but hopefully it missed us.  The sun is shining right now!   I am home without a car.  I took it in to be detailed and to have the oil changed and the tires rotated.  I should use the day to get things accomplished around here.  I am hosting 11 other ladies for Bunco on Wednesday and still have lots of teaching supplies to sort through in my cleaning and purging process that I started a few weeks ago.

Anyone know any home remedies or alternative meds for sinus infection and a cough...as well as watery eyes?   I have been fighting this for about 4 days now and just hate to take antibiotics unless it's a last resort.  UGH...it always seems like there's something going wrong with this ol' body!  :-)

Well I'm off to get something done.  Everyone have a good start to your week!

Two more days to implants!  I'll be so glad to be rid of this TE. I had implants way back in the 80s so I'm not scared of these. Just have to have a darn drain again on the left one. I wish they would come up with a better solution. I use the Diva drain holders that stick on your shirt or PJ top. They are great and make moving around or even just sitting, so much easier. My PS uses the stuff (can't remember) that protects the incisions and tube site so I can shower after 48 hours. Will be glad to have this part done.

Supposed to be results from a new drug study for breast cancer today. Might be nothing, might be something. It was a small study for a drug that focus is on met from progressing. It won't regress it, but does keep cells from growing further.  FDA may fast track this inhibitor drug but there is no survival studies so they may end up requiring that little bit of data.

There are some new veterans posting now so it's good to read your thoughts too. I've only been part of this thread for a few weeks and this is such a great forum. Happy Monday!!!

Welcome to luvmaui and any other newbies on this thread whom I have not welcomed.  At my age remembering names is not my strong suit, especially when the names are in code!

My yard is gorgeous right now with big azalea beds in full bloom and a grampa's beard tree displaying its fuzzy growth that gave rise to the nickname.  I don't know what the proper name is, but the tree is native and grows in the woods.  I need to transfer some pics from my phone to this laptop so I can post a few.  For some reason, my "smart" phone is dumb when it comes to posting on bc.org.  I can write and send e-mails with no problem.  And post pics on Facebook.  Need to drop by a Verizon store when I ever think about it at a handy time.

We had a great ww meeting this morning.  I enjoy the other women and the leader.  There's a lot of sharing, some of it very helpful.  One woman today spoke up and said she doesn't eat margarine.  She eats a small amt of butter instead because it has enjoyable taste.  I'm in total agreement.  I don't eat nonfat cheese and other nonfat foods that are flat nasty.  I'd rather have a small amt of good cheese or good bread or good whatever than a whole bunch of something that doesn't taste good.  So THERE!!

I was down another lb.  The challenge comes later in the week when dh and I go on a 5-day rv trip to Gulf Shores, AL, where we'll meet up with rv friends from FL.  The 5th wheel is parked outside so that it's convenient.  This afternoon I'll take some clothing out there and some food as well.  Since there are supermarkets and restaurants in Gulf Shores, I'm not too worried about the food.

It's a gorgeous day here.  Hope it's nice wherever you are!

Ooh, I would love to go to a Cardinals game. Jealous. We may be able to catch a baseball game while we are in St. Petersburg, FL in May. It's just gotten so expensive though, hasn't it?

Legs are back to normal today after my 5k walk Saturday. I think mine was more like a saunter than a walk. Hehe.

We decided to take a bit of a road trip this morning to see some wildflowers in areas we don't usually go. What a lovely trip it was! We traveled about 50 miles of country roads around LaVernia, Stockdale, and other little towns along the way. The area was full of Indian Paintbrush and there were seas of red along the roads. We don't usually see this much of that flower but the conditions were right this year. As we went north towards Seguin and New Braunfels we saw Bluebonnets again - fields of them. Our favorite places had a mixture of pinks, reds, purples, yellows, whites, and that pretty shade of Bluebonnet blue. Beautiful! Mike took these this morning.

Wow! I've never seen that much Indian Paintbrush. We used to drive from Houston to see the bluebonnets in the hill country.

Sandra--gorgeous pictures!  Thanks for sharing. I just love flowers especially first blooming flowers.  They are so pretty.   Well work is almost done for today and though I may be 15 minutes away from the Cardinal game and celebrations, I haven't gotten my strength back.  The SEs are still kicking my butt. So,  I am going home and take a nap.  I am thinking about buying one of those fitbits or whatever you call them and do whatever I can to increase my energy level.   How I wish I could walk 5K!  I'd be lucky to make it a quarter of a mile right now. Well--no complaints, since I took that three week break from my Al and started to take the Anastrozole at night--I have more energy than I did a couple weeks ago.

I haven't seen flowers like that since we moved from Hill Country. They do have beautiful bluebonnets and paint brushes. I passed a patch of bluebonnets here about the size of my house with a do not mow sign! So cute and a great effort. Think I'll start looking around for more.

Dwill, my DH got the FitBit for me, only the part that you clip on, and I only did 200 steps when I first started right after surgery in January. It was hard to do that much and I didn't want to do anything but stay in this chair. I don't like to walk outside so my walking consisted of walking around the house and not going upstairs! I took advantage of when I did get up by walking in place during commercials or anywhere before I sat down. Then, it was going out to eat (hate to cook), walking the mall (slowly) to just look - okay to take a rest or have a treat, going grocery shopping and leaning on the cart. Baby steps helped me so much. I set my goal to 2000 steps a day, then 5000 which is where it is now. Some days I do 10K steps, about 4 out of 7 days. I can do the stairs, take the treadmill on, and yet still pace myself. I work hard to do this everyday. With the upcoming surgery I think it will help me come back quicker. I'll be starting anti-hormone therapy and I think this will help me also. It sure can't hurt.

I'm a sugar addict. I'm eating healthier and that's hard with all the food commercials. But at night, those caramels I have hidden, the ice cream in the freezer, even peanut butter is always calling me. I've started entering that into the FitBit app on my iPhone and keeps up with my fat, protein and carbs

sorry, rambling and ran out of room. Seeing what I eat, the damage I've done to my body  during the day is an eye opener. I don't like it. I want biscuits and gravy and all that comfort food, especially now. I'm convinced we eat chemicals and I am working hard to eliminate many of them. Next to impossible in our culture.

Sorry this is long, but don't be afraid of a little FitBit or any other type of tool that helps you.

Okay, I'll fix you bisquits and gravy, and we will sit there and eat them, and not tell anyone!  We will chop hard-boiled eggs on top,  and have a chocolate coke to go with it!

I get those frozen bisquits, and then make my own bacon gravy, so none of that has any chemicals....  don't go putting any chemicals in your food....   I figure at MY age, WTH?    So now I am eating a lot of fresh eggs, from the "girls" next door!   I think I will have a couple for dinner, on a tortilla, with cheese and Pace Piquante Sauce.

I have thrown caution to the wind.... I am living by the seat of my pants now....

Oh my, that sounds soooo good, love bacon gravy. My daughter has her own chickens and when I visit her in Okla I get some. So much better than what you can buy. She has a garden and her DH hunts so they always have venison in the freezer plus local sausage. I do not know where she picked all this up. I did not raise her to do all this! But, I'm proud she does.

Wow !!!!  Reading all the above makes me so hungry for some of the foods I seldom eat now.  When I was growing up we had so much that didn't have chemicals in it.....and pasture fed animals.  The chickens were given lots of field corn and I'm sure other things but I was a kid and paid scant attention.  Just knew I preferred not to around when one of the chickens was disposed of for Sunday dinner.  Gruesome.

Moms made everything from scratch and almost all of it ( though I did hate cream puffs for some reason ) was so good.  The good old days that seemed harsh when no one had to keep chickens and goats, and all of that anymore, and cakes came as a boxed mix etc. etc. etc.

Now we long for lots of those things back because they were actually so very much better for us.  Well, I will just keep right on thinking about good old biscuits and gravy and my mom's mock pork chops which were actually made from macaroni steeped in a cheese sauce, then dipped in egg and flour than fast fried to a crispy light brown.  My Dad and I used to keep a steady eye on the last few pieces.  We all lived by the rule that you couldn't take more till you had finished what you had........wow, there sure was a lot of fast eating going on when the platter had a very small pile left.  Those were the days.

    Blessings

    Jackie

    Hi all,

We came back from Son's a day early, when they go back to work and DGD goes to school, we have nothing to keep us busy, so decided we had enough to do at the broom shop.  DGD loves our little dog Rosie.  They are buddies when we take her there.  I fixed homemade chicken and noodles, fresh green beans, mashed potatoes, and parsnips for dinner yesterday.  DGD helped beat the eggs, when we rolled out the noddles I put her hands over mine on the rolling pin and rolled them out.  She was a trooper and helped take the stem of the green beans.  She ate more than she usually does.  I think it was because she was a part of it.  She told me about all the foods that were yuck, and I said well if you had not tried ice cream how would you know you liked it.  Her reply was I like ice cream.

We are hanging in there with the Florida mess.  Thanks for your support.

    Hugs
