All this talk about food is making me hungry. I'm trying to stick to the ww points like Carole, but doing it online. The flower pictures are gorgeous, though, and now I see what Lady Bird was talking about. I went to the lake place this weekend and planted a little grass seed along the new sidewalk. It rained a a little before I left and should be up to 70 degrees on Wednesday. Hope it starts to grow. I'll go back next week to check. I sure agree with Carole about butter vs margarine. The day I heard they had the same calories I threw away the margarine forever. Same for lowfat salad dressing. Half as much of something good is better than something icky. Maybe it is all mental, but I don't seem to eat as much since radiation. That's probably good given the weight gain possibility of Anastrazole.
Welcome Luvmaui. This is a happy place to land.

Jackie, that reminded me of one of our favorite recipe's! Mom used to make Noodle-burgers..... Just chopped up hamburger.... brown it..... then about a cup of chopped celery, and lots of chopped onions... Then add 1 can of tomatoes, and one can of tomato sauce.... and about a Cup of water..... Put water on to boil noodles.... and let meat mixture simmer.... Then drain the noodles, and throw it all in together, and let set a few minutes! Didn't cost much either, and I STILL love to make Noodleburgers!
And Grandpa used to have "Dessert" after breakfast... It was a piece of toast, with canned-milk poured over it, and sugar! And I always remembered Grandma kept her eggs in a drawer! Not the refrigerator! But bacon and eggs every morning... And they were healthy hard-working people, even into their 80's....
Mommarch, is it the same GD that you are talking about ? I mean you get to spend time with her? Or do you have more than one Grand-daughter? If it were me, I would think of kid-happing that girl, and running away with her.... but you've probably thought of that yourselves!...

Chevy, my father liked fresh cream poured on bread and sugar sprinkled on top. He had 5 bypass heart surgery in his 70's but I doubt that was diet related. Our health issues are mostly genetic. My mother ate the same kind of diet as my father and she has different health issues, mainly arthritis.
Not all food additives are bad for our health. But it does make me uneasy when I read ingredients on a food products and all of them are mystery ingredients. You have to wonder about a food that can sit on the pantry shelf for over a year and still be ok to eat.
Easter is a big temptation time for me and dh. We have a candy company called Elmer's in Louisiana that makes Heavenly Hash eggs. Marshmallow and almonds covered in chocolate. And Gold Brick eggs. Dense chocolate and chopped nuts. Now they're available in dark chocolate, our favorite chocolate. Yesterday I bought a package of both!
Mommarch, the chicken and home-made noodles sounds delicious. Similar to our chicken and dumplings. The dumplings are really old-fashioned noodles.

Chocolate reminds me of Easter and my favorite cartoon.

Hi all.
Easter, like all holidays, brings back childhood memories. One of my dad's aunts and her daughter would make large fudge bunnies for all the kids. I remember being told that they were 5 pounds, but that can't be right. In any case they seemed really big. Every year I got a new outfit complete with hat and gloves to wear out to a fancy Easter breakfast with my grandparents.

Sally, that's such a sweet memory for you. My grandparents were so much older by the time I came but I was very close to my grandma! I always looked forward to that new dress, shoes, hat and gloves! I always liked wearing yellow. Not for sure why, never wear it now. Going Easter egg hunting was for real eggs, not plastic ones, and we would have decorated them ourselves which I guess is why we wore gloves!
I remember ham, potato salad, deviled eggs and all the trimmings but especially the coconut cake! Yum. Okay, here I go again on the food thing. I do plan on having all of this on Easter. Maybe I'll sit around in a yellow dress minus the gloves!

Hey Ladies, send me positive thoughts tomorrow! Implant day! And I'm ready...
0 -
Lost, implants are a piece of cake for most. Easy surgery. Some even have it on an outpatient basis, have it in the morning and are home for lunch. I had a bunch of pocketwork on both sides too, so I stayed a good bit longer and had more pain than usual. Many women say they never took anything more than a Tylenol after exchange surgery. You will do fine. Good luck!

I'll take a noodleburger and a gold brick egg please.

My mother always made a sheet cake with a chocolate Easter bunny in the middle and "nests" of green dyed coconut on each corner, complete with jelly bean "eggs" in each nest.
We always got new Easter outfits for church. I remember one dress in particular - thought I looked SO good. It was pink and white checks with a ruffle down the front. I had new white shoes, a purse, gloves, and a hat. We were always so excited to go to the early sunrise service, then come home to hunt for eggs, eat goodies from our baskets, and have a nice Easter meal - ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans - followed by that wonderful Easter cake.
Why did it never occur to any of us that the eggs we found hidden in our back yard were the same ones we had decorated the night before? My mother must have had a good explanation.

Lost, sending you (((hugs))) for tomorrow.

Lost, good luck with your surgery tomorrow.
My sister and I usually had matching dresses for Easter. I remember a couple of them, both sewed by my mother. One was pale green organdy and another one was red dotted swiss. Both had big sashes tied in a bow in the back and both had ruffles. My sister, 2 1/3 years younger than I was wearing one of these dresses (I forget which one) at the church Easter egg hunt. She formed a sort of sack with her dress skirt, put her eggs in it and bashed the eggs against a tree trunk! We still laugh about the incident wondering what her intention was. She was only about 4 or 5 yrs. old. Needless to say, the dress was a mess.
I don't know why but dyed eggs always seem to taste better than regular ole boiled eggs.
We never wore gloves as children but we did have new shoes, either black patent leather or white.

My sister and are are only 17 months apart, and were dressed as twins as children. One year, as teenagers, we went shopping for our Easter outfits separately but on the same day. When we got home, we had both bought navy blue suits, and the exact same coat, just different colors. Things like this have happened many times over the years- I would call to tell her we bought a VCR and she would laugh and say they had bought one the weekend before. The funniest one was when she called me one morning in 1977 to tell me she was pregnant. (She is in NY, I am in Fla). Instead of congratulating her on the pregnancy, I said "that's not fair- I was going to call you tonight to tell you I am pregnant!" Our babies, both girls were due exactly one week apart, and were born 20 days apart- she was early, I was late.

Oh Sandra...your wildflower pictures are just beautiful. Our bluebonnets will be out in about 4 weeks here and I always look forward to them.
Lost...good luck tomorrow. I will keep you in my thoughts! :-)
How I've enjoyed your Easter memories! I always got a new dress and hat, too, and white shoes. My mother always said that we couldn't wear white shoes until after Easter. :-) I don't know who mentioned the coconut cake ....and I'll lose my post if I go back to find out....but it sure sounds good to me. I love coconut and I especially love coconut cream pie but I want meringue on it instead of that whipped topping.
I've been out picking up some sticks in the yard today. We have a LARGE yard and I only made a dent but the weather was nice and it was good to get out. I am hosting our Bunco group tomorrow. April is not the best month for me to host because my yard isn't very pretty. Next time I'll ask for a different month so I can show off my flowers.
Well I need to start dinner because we have an early evening meeting and we need to eat first.
Hope everyone is having a good day!

It took some doing, but I managed to post some pictures of our yard. Azaleas in bloom, grandpa's beard tree, and amarylla. Also dh washing down the 5th wheel camper for our trip to Gulf Shores, AL tomorrow.

Pretty day here today......and yes, I'll be making some of Chevy's recipe too.....just sounded so easy and good too. I'm all for the easy recipes. You all put in such pretty flowers. Carole....that bush, the last one is startling. I loved it.
It is sunny and warm here today. I just took some Cheese Strudel out of the oven.....now to leave it alone....as if I could. I'm thinking double R's here.....no restraint and no remorse. That will come later I'm sure.
We also ( very traditional thing ) always got a new outfit for Easter. White shoes etc. We stopped have Easter egg hunts early on, not sure why. I think because we so quickly skipped over every thing to get to the chocolate Easter bunny. My mom did make baskets for us those with a few boiled colored eggs and then the jelly beans and other candy with the chocolate Easter Bunny always in the middle.
Who said....was that you Carole.....that for some reason the colored eyes always tasted so good. I think in those days......we ate them un-refrigerated.....though why that would "help" them taste better I don't know, but they really did.
Blessings
Jackie

Carole, have you tried the dark chocolate covered almonds with cherries from Costco? That is the ony candy I really like, and one a day is just a special treat!
Yes, we buy those frozen "Grandma's Noodles" at the store also! I like those a lot better than the "sinkers" I mean gnocci's DH likes with sauce on them!

Yes, LostBoob... I think all the eggs we looked for were real, because plastic wasn't invented yet! Ha! When my girls were little, we would hide the plastic eggs outdoors, with some change in them.... and they LOVED eating the colored ones they did themselves!
My Grandma colored eggs, even when she was older! And she used to stick little ornaments and trinkets in some old packing styrofoam she found, and decorate her table with that.... !
And good luck tomorrow!!!! Fingers crossed here!
SANDRA!!! You mean there IS no Easter Bunny? Dang! Here all this TIME!!! Ha!
I found out that the fresh eggs I get from "the girls" do NOT peel very well, when hard boiled.... ! So I have to use store bought for all the egg salad....!
Anne! Amazing...! My Daughter's are very close like that too! Sisters are the BEST of friends!
Carole....LOVE the pictures, AND your camper! Are you getting ready for another trip?
For SOME reason, I can't remember any Easter's when I was little... Nor Christmas's... But I think when I had Amnesia, from falling on my head, just blocked out most of my childhood, and school years....
That's okay though.... A lot of stuff going on then.... Children have a way of blocking things out of their little head when they aren't happy.... Or just need to escape ..... from whatever.

The azaleas are BEAUTIFUL. I'm so jealous. We cannot grow them in San Antonio. Same with gardenias. Sure do wish we could as those two are my favorites. I think I'll go console myself with some Mexican food and a Margarita. Yum.

Chevy....all eggs have to be a little older to peel well. So, the ones you get from next door are far, far, far, too fresh. If you know you want to do something like that......save a few back and wait at least three weeks.

have missed a few days. Tomorrow have my first gathering with friends who don't know about my BC and I'm working on what to wear. I'm two weeks out from a surgery. Not even even. ;-)
I LOVE the pics Carole. I just bought some veggies and a few flowers for our garden but was told not to plant them till Friday due to nights in the 40s. I miss San Diego, CA...but I'm doing my best to adjust to NC.
Lost, good luck tomorrow.

Carole, thanks for posting those beautiful pics. I should print them and hang them in my windows...I won't see blooms like that for many weeks. Spring comes late here...and my area of Long Island is at least a week or two behind the western part. Enjoy your trip - the camper looks like you'll have everything you need! Oh, and Dh too

I also remember my new Easter outfit with hat and especially fancy shoes.
Lost, thinking of you.0 -
The pictures of all the flowers are gorgeous - wildflowers, azeleas, grandpas beard tree and more. I'm just working on some grass seed these days along a sidewalk I had put in. I don't remember much about Easter dresses, but I do remember the hats my grandmother treated me to. I still love hats. She made most of my dresses and I recall what seemed like hours waiting in the fabric store. Both my grandmothers sewed for me. One spoke clear standard English and was born here. One was born in Finland and spoke with a distinct Finnish accent. So... one grandma sewed for me with material, and the other with "mother reel". Or that's what I heard. I actually thought it was different stuff. It took me years before I figured out what she was trying to say.
Lost: it's almost tomorrow and I'm thinking of you. I hope you are sleeping well right now and have an easy day tomorrow. Night all.
