Wow, you gals are so funny this morning.  Love to come in here and start laughing sooo early.  I think it will be an ok day.  It is brutally cold this morning, but due to rise up to 40 or so.  That will be phenomenal.  All that crusty snow might get almost slushy in some places.  Then we will go back to about freezing and on the week-end will warm a bit again.  They say more snow showers ( not sure what that will be cause it doesn't sound like they are exactly sure either ) but I have some hope that whatever comes on the week-end will hopefully START us into better overall weather.Winking  The stuff we have had ( though fortunately a little sun with it each day ) is getting to me.  Usually, if we do have a "snow" this time of yr. it doesn't hang around long.  I don't mind the snow though as much as the cold which has been a little on the brutal side in the early mornings.

Paul Newman did have fantastic eyes.  I was always so impressed that I never heard of his "straying" from Joanne Woodward.  Always sort of wondered how they achieved that.   Glad they did mind you.  It was a good thing to see.  I mean, I was so upset when Eddie Fisher just had to have Liz Taylor.  Later on I forgave Liz for what she did to Debbie Reynolds but it sure seemed awful at the time.  Funny -- I blamed Liz more than Eddie -- now I'm reversed on it.  I think he was the skunk.  They both were really.

Not working today so I'll be here on and off.  Going to walk early at the Rec Center today.  In the afternoon there are usually a lot of school kids.  I know they need places to go too, but at my age -- the noise and confusion of some of the things they do ( usually down below the upper walking track on the gym floor ) just makes it not fun at all to walk.  We Srs. who don't hear so well anymore, anyway can't talk at we are walking -- and now and then some of the kids end up upstairs and can be a bit disruptive to people trying to walk.  We went yesterday -- saw a big yellow school bus so called off our walk.

Carole, I like your tax return too.  We were getting money like that back every yr. but since we have dropped in income there won't be anything taken out -- so we won't be filing.  Well, we have to file -- but only to keep announcing our presence I guess.  We won't pay in, so nothing will come back anymore.  We are only getting back this yr. what Dh paid in on his.  Not so much, but nice to get it all back anyhow.

Anyway, I'll be checking in later.

    Blessings

    Jackie

P.S. Great to see you Cammie.  Glad your cardio test was good.  Here's hoping they all will be good

You and Chevy gave me some smiles and chuckles this morning, Cammi.  You have such a funny turn of phrase.  And Chevy is quite a character in poking fun.

Jackie, I think I'll be going to the gym every day to get a little cardio exercise.  On the WW plan, I get "exercise points" which allow me to eat (and drink) a little more.

Today I made a BIG pot of potato/leek soup and took my mother a large container of it.  It's definitely soup weather this week.

This is one of most "wintry" Februaries I can remember.  But time moves on.  Before we know it, spring will be here.

    Hello to everyone

Got the good news that I was accepted for a 50% scholarship membership at the Y so will only have to pay $25/month instead of $50. Also got the reapplication form for my Medicaid. Hope that goes through too.

Morning gals! MMMMMMMMMMMMmmmm Carole! I love Potato Soup with Leeks!

Yes, it IS that HOT SOUP kind of weather! Maybe if I don't talk about another snow-storm coming in this afternoon, ..... it won't.

But at least it keeps me IN, and I can get more Spring (what ever that is) cleaning and organizing done! Putting everything out in the garage, in between snow-storms, to take up to the Treasure Trunk... A place where they donate things to battered and homeless women and families...They can go in and pick out what-ever they need, at no cost.

Good NEWS Puffin! I still have that exercise bicycle I ordered last fall! It came, but then so did Winter, and I really want to set it up out-doors, to hop on and ride my brains out some day.... when it's nice.... All the parts are ready.... just that I'm not yet.... Ha!

My Doc said it would help my hip, better than a lot of walking... I don't really have room in the front/living room to put it.... It folds in half, but STILL....! I can leave it outdoors, and just cover it for this "coming soon Spring"..... Ha!

Jackie, we DID go & sign, and we are having the refund direct deposited in my account.... Usually have them send it to us.... I know this place costs a little, but after that last hair-raising fiasco last year, I just wanted to pay and have it done RIGHT!

When you get a letter from the IRS saying you OWE $7000 from 2 years before, well I mean your heart just STOPS! I thought I would pass out.... I knew I couldn't get us out of THIS mess myself! I didn't know whether to cry or run for the hills!

After lots of phone calls, and panic attacks, I called this Liberty Tax place here, and this gal, helped figure it all out, and show us what went wrong, and re-filed the dang thing, and it turned out alright!!!!!!!!!!!!

We used to have them done with AARP.... for free... and no problems so far.... Not until THAT mess! But now I won't worry.... It's done.... Hah! Now we'll probably get a bill for 2 million dollars that we owe...... That scare took 2 years off my life.

So that brings into mind Cammi! So YOU work for the government!!! Can you get those guys off our backs? What happened there.... Did you say you were a secret agent or something? Or what exactly was your position????? I mean one that you can talk about? Here. You must be like what's her name, on those detective/spy shows.... I mean crimes happen, and it's YOUR job to solve them..... or make them worse.

So is the "government" still talking to you, or acknowledging that you WERE a member? Check on this for me.... You must have been doing "under-cover' work.... I mean in the correct sense...... not that we know what THAT is.....

At least that's what I've been told....

    Morning everyone,

I'm sure glad for you Puffin -- getting your half price membership.  If I could get something for $25.00 a month, that would be swell.  Can't get it here, but there are things I know to do -- just have to inspire myself to do them.  Right now I'm telling myself ( and it's party true ) that all the cleaning cycles I'm doing will suffice to keep me in tone.

Chevy, to me that is the scariest thing to have happen.  Something as big and as faceless as the U.S. government, more directly the I.R.S. telling you that you have "wronged" them in some way just sends waves of fear -- almost as bad as a cancer diagnosis.

Well, that is also why many yrs. ago we bit the bullet and decided we were no longer probably able to do our own taxes anymore.  Years ago they were fairly simple, but times change and tax laws tend to change really fast.  Even though a time or two it was hard to 'ante' up when it was time to get the taxes done, we always came away with a sense of confidence that all would be well --- and it has been.

Now, of course, we will go to the "free" people to file since our return should be MORE than easy to do.  No point in paying a huge sum to people to do something probably even we could do.  We have been out of the loop for so long I think it would feel better if we let someone else do them.  They should be more than easy for that person and we will feel just as confident as always I think.

Well I hate to report that it is crusty outside once more.  Yesterday's temps were not at all bad, but guess we had ice under ice or something.  The roads are fine but walking the yard is still crispy-crunchy this a.m.  Having this weather come and sort of hang on this time of year makes it seem like a super long winter -- but it has been quite tolerable for most of it since our only other snow was Thanksgiving.  That was as much a surprise as this very late snow that seems intent on hanging around as long as the Tkgs. one did.  Patience sometimes comes hard for me.  I'm very ready for Spring to come now and for snow to be gone.

I hope you all have a fantastic day.  I'm going to work on having a great one.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Heat wave here, was 1degree when I got up! Yesterday it was -10!

We pay someone to do the taxes, so far so good, especially since we have done trusts, with the future in view. My Mom had a trust and when she passed , it made everything a lot easier and faster. Hate to pay the fee, but we usually get something back.

Went to see the electro phys cardiologist , Teacher. Didn't do much to help the situation with the tachy. Said my events are all normal rhythm. Dont know why I have more often and longer events, the Toprol is about all, and that doesn't eliminate them. Though when I was on the Cardizem last week it was much worse. So basically told me I have to live with it, won't hurt me I guess , but scares me.

Chevy yup, don't get on the floor if I don't have to, getting up is a challenge. And as you know, panty hose, I do need to get one of those donner things you have. It's too much of a struggle! I used to have a treadmill and gave it away, it only became a clothes rack. We had a senior gym which I went to faithfully. We loved it , no hulks and skinny young things there, but they closed it.

Nope we are blessed if we have a man in our life who is NOT perfect, BUT is perfect for us. Second time around I considered different things than when I was in my 20s. God has been good , love my ole man! Guess it will last , as our parts wear out, been almost 30 years!

    Hugs Jean

We pay $69 a month for YMCA membership, which is a lot.  But I like supporting that organization, which is very family oriented.  We have a very few goodlooking bodies in the big general exercise room, but the gray hairs, like dh and me, outnumber them.  Plus there are younger people who aren't beauties either.  I feel comfortable going there pretty much as God made me, except for wearing clothes!  No make-up, no jewelry.  I do comb my hair.  I wear old shorts and a tee shirt and athletic shoes.  By the time I'm ready to head home, my hair is wet with sweat.  I sweat big time when I exert myself.

The secret to going to the gym is not giving it much thought.  You just put on your grubby clothes, grab a towel and pour coffee into a go cup and drive off.  My ear plug thingy for getting the audio to the tv screens stays in the car.  The new machines with individual tvs are a nice improvement.  Watching tv helps to alleviate the boredom and the time passes.  We have a "gym" in part of our gardening shed with a variety of equipment but going to the Y is working out better.  For one thing, our home gym isn't heated and air-conditioned.

Puffin, I hope you'll put your membership to good use.  Jackie, you get exercise from your active lifestyle.

Ok, Chevy, get that bike going, girl!  You can pedal while you watch NASCAR!  I'll bet you would exceed the speed limit.

Hi to Blondie and Sandra and Mike and Cammi and everyone else.  Sandra, how are things going with Mike?  We haven't had an update in a while.

    Wishing everyone a good Wed.

Oh, forget to say that I received the disk from Intuit today that will let me upgrade my Basic Turbo Tax.  Their response was fast.  So they may keep me as a regular customer.  I would never pay anyone to do our taxes now that our finances are so cut and dried.  Back when things were more complicated, I went to a CPA.  No longer necessary.

bonnets - I was told not to worry about episodes. After my cardio's PA resigned, I told my doc that the new one said that SVT wouldn't kill me and laughed. I told him I didn't want to see her again and I haven't. It continues

Okay yes Carole! I think watching something like Nascar while I am on the stationary bike will help! I remember years ago, when I would take in ironing....

I would set up the ironing board, and my boom-box, and iron away in the sun! It was so fun to rock away with Janis Joplin, on those tapes, while I was doing something that I didn't want to do.... but it paid money.... Better than cleaning houses though....

I wouldn't do it now.... Besides does anyone IRON anymore? Ha!

Carole, I heard on the local new and on National news that TURBO TAX was hacked.....

Chevy and Cami.....love your banter,,,,that"s the way you ladies were a couple years ago...makes me laugh

Heart ladies it must be so frustrating knowing something is NOT right....I have a pulse oximeter that has shown me that when I relax/get ready to sleep my Oxygen level drops, and other times of the day my heart rate goes from 60-65bpm (my "normal") to a racing 95-100bpm....and then back to my normal, which then make me feel dizzy and sick to my stomach!

Sandra how are YOU and Mike doing....has he started the blood marrow cells transfer yet. Has he been in touch with his sister? sending hope and lve your way.

Puffin....a stange bird perch on a tree across the street...will try to post a pic tomorrow and maybe you can tell me what it was...had a wing span of about 6'
Blondie....get that foot/ankle better so you can "spring" that place....thinking of you...B-I-G hugs
My chest wall/sternum ultra sound showed a small cyst....damn...I hate thing growing on the side that I had cancer!

Morning gals! Di! Holy criminy! Get that bird out of the neighborhood! If it is that big, it's probably after small creatures! Keep the dogs and cats in the house! I mean we have CROWS, and those guys even scare the Owls away!

I looked up Big Birds, but I have no clue what YOUR bird looks like.... You live out North West? So what kinds of birds are indiginous to your parts?

So now Cammi is going to go nuts trying to figure out what I just said.... I just PLANT those words to drive her nuts.... er. She doesn't post ANYwhere very often. It's that "job" of hers that keeps her tied down.... literally!

I mean they used HER references to film 50 shades.... She probably gets good kick-backs from her participation..... (oh now she'll probably include THAT form of punishment for her NEXT film)

Di, are they just going to watch that cyst? Can they or will they do something about it? Maybe it's just a troublesome be-nign cyst?

Bonnets! No kidding! I actually HAVE one! Because DH holds onto these SHIRTS that are ancient, and made out of cotton, and even though I hide them in the furthest corner of his closet, he FINDS them! And even the permanent-press cycle, or the dryer, NOR hanging them to dry outdoors helps.

Cotton was for the old days... Remember when we used to starch things? THAT'S what I should do.... Load those shirts and jeans up with starch, so they stand by themselves, and THEN see if he is so anxious to wear them!

Morning, though I have little time as I have to go to work.  Warm yesterday but snowing again this morning.  Still some ice here and there I'm sure, but it will be hidden now beneath the snow....growl!!!!

I'm sure your doing that too Di....with the cold and cough and getting surgery put off again.  I have to say --- it seemed ( if I can recall ) that everything I had done -- lumpectomy, chemo, rads, etc.  all just followed along and nothing kept me from the 'rounds' of what needed to happen.  I sure wish I could bottle that ( whatever that was ) and send it out to those who have stop and start progressions going through.  Not to scare anyone or make it too negative, but the whole thing is something of a downer -- you are stopping the life you had and knew -- for the life of attempting to get through the cancer journey, and whatever is entailed safely and in a time that can help you to restore yourself to the production that once filled your existence.

As my Dad would tell me -- just do it, you are building your character.  Giving yourself good old fashioned fortitude I guess me meant.  Whatever Dad.  I hope you know where you are that I treasure everything you ever said to me.

Well out in the snow to feed the feral kits and then get to work.  I'll be checking back with all of you later.

    Blessings

That last pose is the one they copy for sculptures and paintings. I think it's a Great Blue Heron and I don't think they're rare here. I didn't know there wing span was that big, but it sort of goes with the length of the body.

Blue Herons sound almost like dogs barking when they are startled.  We have them at our lake.  Use to see them a lot more often, but we don't have lake actually behind the house we have now.  Our first house did have lake behind it and they would be out there a lot.  All the people around the lake here just call them Big Birds.  I never did see then seeing on tree branches --  always in the shallower water at the lake's edge.  Waiting for some kind of fish I guess.  They were interesting to watch and to listen to as well.

Yes Di! It must BE a Blue Heron! I looked it up, and if you can't get closer, and ask him what he is, we'll just all assume he is one of these! The barking kind, like Jackie says!

    image

You live in the Pacific Northwest? So that must be one of the birds haning around your area....

Looks like they like fish.... better go out and buy fish, and throw some up in the tree....! You can probably tame him, and have a new PET!

We have the blue herons, too.  I have not seen one in a tree.  Yes, they are VERY patient as are the white egrets, which outnumber the gray herons around here.  Audubon did a famous painting of the blue heron.

    Thinking Spring --- really hard:

There is symbolic as well as actual beauty in the migration of the birds, the ebb and flow of the tides, the folded bud ready for the spring.  There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature—the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after the winter.  -Rachel Carson
