Hi Superscared, i posted on this forum about a good diet to try if you want to cure cancer naturally (that im on). its under my thread about a study suggesting chemo/radiation can cause cancer to spread. also i did another post about red meat and dairy linked to inflammation and consequently cancer growth.
im on a diet with no red meat, no dairy, no sugar (except some honey/maple syrup), no caffeine - black tea/coffee; no alcohol; no soft drinks or cakes etc.
just eat vegetables mainly, wholegrains, fruit, nuts, seeds, beans, pulses, lentils, chickpeas, corn, etc an egg or some fish occasionally. i steer clear of hormone filled chickens. organic maybe ok but wudnt eat too much meat. i drink vegie juirce, wheatgrass juice, herbal tea, green tea some fruit juice; soymilk, and i take herbal pills from my chinese doctor - who put me on this diet intiially.
i feel really great since ive been on it, and wud never go back to eating any other way.

When Doctors ar being bitchy to you rmember that you were given a middle finger for a reason. Then remember that you have feet to get up and walk out the door. Do not pay them anymore respect just because they have a medical degree. If a person off the street treated you that way you would use the finger , the feet, and maybe even a few choice words.

Smallworld - so sorry for your loss. it hit home for me when I read your post because both my husband and I have cancer. I just cannot believe how common it is. I would be so lost without my husband I can only imagine how you are feeling right now. The most important thing for your healing right now is to keep strong and keep fighting. Your husband is so proud of you and will always be right there with you. You truly are beautiful, Smallworld.
SuperScared - Welcome! I had a similar situation when I had my lumpectomy. Right before surgery the radiologists were wiring the lump so that the sureon could easily remove it. They were having trouble finding it because they said it looked "less conspicuous" than it had on previous mammos. When I mentioned that to my surgeon later, she said that it was only because my breasts were denser from changing my diet. I say - FEH! I truly believe that all of the changes and proactive measures I had taken in the meantime had a positive effect.

Fairy - I finally got to see the new nips. Wow, that is impressive. They look so realistic. I never imagined they could look so much like the originals. Congratulations! You must feel great about the outcome!

Loved your answer Merilee! Thanks for the chuckle.
Superscared-The same thing happened to my tumor. Mine shrunk 2 cm in 4 weeks when I started the coQ10 and a few other supplements, and changed my diet, just on instinct. That is what got me to thinking that maybe there is something to this whole idea. I know it is tough right now, but you will get through it. Just take your time to make educated decisions and then go with your gut. Find doctors who will listen, not berate you. The best therapy is integrative. Sadly, doctors at both ends take a "my way is the only way" attitude. We are here to help, but only you can make your decisions and you need to research as much as possible so that you feel whatever you do is the right thing for you. There is a placebo effect in believing in our choices too.
I had a little doggie moment too. My dear friend was going through back surgery recovery while I was going through rads. We were having a sympathetic meltdown on the phone one day when I said, "What are we doing on the phone? I am coming over because we both need a hug". So I went there and we sat and vented and cried and her little chihauhau kept running back and forth between us, licking our tears until he had us laughing! When her son came home, the dog barked when ever he came near us as if saying "leave my girls alone you male specimen!" It was just a great healing day that I will never forget. Animals are a gift from god for sure.
Fairyfloss-it sounds like you are on the right road already. Welcome to our little gang. We can always use another fairy around here.

Still hoping we have an expert on natural aromatase inhibitors in our midst. It just seems that if docs want us on aromatase inhibitors, then are natural ones a good idea?
I'm just winging it with this and hoping it isn't a stupid thing to do. When you Google natural aromatase inhibitors you get info about Chrysin which I haven't bought yet...and chammomile...I just ordered organic German chammomile flowers based tea online (I'm pretty sure I remember reading that German flowers are best. I'm starting to fear that I might die of typographical error)....and apples which have quercitin which is also listed as a natural aromatase inhibitor. An apple a day and all that. It is really weird when the body builder sites pop up. Some of them buy black market Tamox (I have an unopened bottle of that in my drawer so hey if I didn't mind breaking the law and potentially injuring some poor misguided beefcake, I guess there is money in that prescription.) Some of them buy blackmarket aromatase inhibitors or at least that is how a couple of blogs referred to them as "blackmarket". Anyway, it turns out that some bodybuilders are trying as hard as some of us to lower our estrogen numbers. There are sites with supplements that claim to lower estrogen. Now wouldn't we know about those supplements if they were real? Bodybuilder blogs advise to use natural aromatase inhibitors which I also found recommendations for on annieappleseedproject.org.
So, I've been overdosing on chammomile tea and also use that Johns Hopkins developed broccoli based tea with something called SGH in it. Chammomile is cafeine free and is supposedly a soothing sleep aid. The Brassica tea with SGH flavors are mostly green teas so there is caffeine but they do have one flavor Red Bush Tea which is caffeine free. I drink combinations of these throughout the day over ice. I use so many tea bags I have to add a little organge juice or lemon juice to soften the taste. I tend to overdo. Any experts on here that know about the SGH in Brassica Tea or Brocco Sprouts? I found out about them on the JH site and wondered if anyone else has any experience with these products.
Anybody out there farther ahead on this research than I? Advice? Suggestions?

very interesting, thanks! JH is an amazing research hospital.
- interesting as well that they remove the 13C. I had read a while ago that 13C could go either way in terms of carcinogency and that DIM was better. Would be great if they had DIM in it too. I wonder why they didn't do that? Where is anom? She would know.

Where's Deanna been? I hope she comes back too!

I have been wondering about her also.

Luna5: I have been drinking imported organic camomile tea (Zervos, stems and all) from Greece my whole life. Greeks have been gathering it from the wild for thousands of years. We call it "tsai to vonu"...meaning Tea from the mountains. It has been a source of good health among the Greeks for millennia...my Grandmother always gave it to us, as children, and l have always loved it.
I think l mention earlier on that l take sulforaphane. Well about for months ago when l was diagnosed l purchased two small tubs of "EnduraCell, 100% pure broccoli sprout powder, enzyme-active, "containing high levels of Glucoraphanin - very potent. Each "tea spoon" is equivalent to 600 grams of broccoli. It has a "very" strong smell of broccoli...l mix it with vital greens.
Seaotter: For extra protein I take the oldest food source in the world ...Spirulina - it has an amazing 300% more protein than fish, meat or poultry, with no cholesterol and a protein content of 60-70%. It's even more potent, fermented. I suffered from anaemia after l gave birth to my son, and discovered this wonderful gift of nature -micro-algae's are a must in ones quest for optimum health. I learned this after many years of painstaking research trying to cure my son's autoimmune disorder, with much success. Billions of years of DNA encoded in these mighty forces of nature.

A couple of very inspiring stories...
My mentor and dear friends husband developed cancer, (Highly intelligent, accomplished human beings the both of them) which spread throughout his entire body, into his bones and marrow - he was given no more than six months to live. Well he decided to give it the "Ian Gawler" approach and go the natural route. His wife totally supported him as did his family. He discovered the treatment of Essiac Tea, but some years back sheep sorrel, which is a key ingredient, was banned in Australia. He travelled to Canada, and began using this supplement there for a while ‘till he could get the product here. Once it became available he moved back. He was for most of his life a vegetarian...and is totally vegan now. To his therapy he also added turmeric (which he has specially made up for him), and high doses of antioxidants. He and his wife live in a gorgeous home in the mountains...fresh air and clean water. She works in the city, and he was/is a professor, who holds seminars from time to time. He was diagnosed 11 years ago. He goes for his 6-month check ups, and he is cancer free.
Last Sunday l met a wonderful father and son through my naturopath - they both developed prostate cancer. The son was only 24 when diagnosed. They both decided they would attempt to cure themselves naturally. They told me that their plan of attack was micro-algae's, Barley/wheat grass, organic foods...and "very" high doses of vitamin C. They were diagnosed 5 years ago.
And last but not least. My grandfather developed cancer in his nose...he looked dreadful for sometime. Most of his nose had been eaten away from the cancer. He was diagnosed at age 80. He did have surgery but decided that he was not going to have chemo. He died at 106yrs of age. Must have been my grandmothers cooking...who knows?
What l will say is that is that we are all different and what may work for someone may not for another. Very inspiring though isn't it.
For those of you that have the time...here's cancer survivor Ian Gawler's story...an eye opener for those of you that are thinking of taking the natural rode to well being.
http://www.abc.net.au/compass/s2657885.htm
I have a busy day ahead...For those of you that are interested l will post some of my interesting findings on resveratrol, passiflora and keeping our guts clean as soon as I get a breather.
Much to talk about ...so little time.
Victoria
P.S...l do hope your beloved and well missed members return.

Great stories Victoria. It is always so nice to hear success stories - and there are many - from those who have not followed the traditional route.
Wow - chlorella is more of a superfood than I realized. I have been taking it for some months to help chelate high mercury out of my system. It obviously has so many more benefits as well.
Thanks for all the info.

Great info Victoria. Can't wait to hear more.
Anom, hope you are getting lots of vit D sunshine. We miss you.

Patty, yes, it is called tomosynthesis it's 3-D but also still experimental. I know the person I spoke with said they did 3D which annoys me. It will be covered by insurance up to to a point but still, they did say without a doubt it was 3D. They do digital and magnified mammos. What they do also, is Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI) as well and this uses radioactive isotope and is supposedly good as an early detector. I think that is where the receptionist messed up. With the above said, they were still very thorough.
-So, with all of that, I had my six month baseline mammo/ultra sound today. The bad news is that I have to go in Monday for a biopsy because there are calcifications at the surgery site. She showed me the magnified film and that f'er was shining bright. The radiologist called my surgeon as a professional courtesy as well as another surgeon the radiologist respects and my surgeon called me this evening to break the news to me. The Radiologist called me afterwards to check on me. It was all was very professional and did make it easier. I was told that it's probably fat necrosis but to be sure its nothing else, they have to go in. uggggghhhh

Oh crap, PS. That really s$#ks that you have to deal with all of this again. I will be sending positive, healing thoughts so a great outcome.

Victoria, very interesting stories, thanks, Fairy, love the money reallocation idea!
Luna, you were asking about phytoestrogens and natural AIs. This all gets very confusing, because apples are on the phytoestrogen list and now also on the natural AI list? Many items on the phytoestrogen list are some of our healthiest foods, so in my book there is no way, I would think of eliminating them. These foods include legumes, beans, many fruits and vegetables, seeds, and oils made from them, and of course, soy.
I think we are more in danger from all the added hormones in our meats and dairy products than from the weak plant estrogens!

PS-Are you doing the iodine? My surgery site was lit up on my therm too and was hard as a rock 3 mo after surgery. I was going to my chiro for condritis and his PT did deep tissue massage and ultrasound, which really softened everything, and got rid of the condritis. Then I started on the iodine and the knot is now gone and my scar is barely visible. My therms showed that the redness was going down each time instead of getting hotter. That is why I was never worried. I knew it would take a while for the scar tissue to heal and the effects of rads to go away. I think the iodine was a major reason for this. My point is, mammos cause a lot of unnecessary biopsies. You might want to get a therm and then try some iodoral before something as invasive as a biopsy. Just a thought.
I can email my therms to you if you want to see what I mean. That is another reason I love them. My doc sends them to me and I can look at them and see for myself the positive changes and not panic. If there is more hot spots and additional blood flow, I would then worry and get a US.
deni-how do you take that chlorella?
I get a cable station called Veria that is all about natural health. Tonight they had a story called "the uncurables". It was about a women who was totally vegan and organic and still got colon cancer. When she started chemo she got so sick after one tx, that she quit and decided to take her chances. She went to a Chinese doctor in her town who believes in integrating medicine. He was appalled that she did not eat meat because he said she was extremely anemic and anemia causes cancer. So he made her eat small amounts of red meat as well as daily acupunture, and chinese medicine supplements such as mushroom extracts and teas. The doctors had basically told her she was doomed, but she is still alive. She now eats a balanced diet and continues to use aspects of Chinese medicine, including supplements and addressing the whole mind/body connection. By the way, my chiro I mentioned above is Chinese. He was trained as an MD in China, but practices as a chiro here because he has more freedom to integrate his practice. It is sad that traditional medicine in the US refuses to see the good in both, even when individuals like this woman are proof that it works.

I'm here, guys... mostly reading. First, I just want to give (((Smallworld))) a hug. I'm so sorry about your DH. I can't imagine going through that. But I know you are a strong woman, and I pray that you will heal and have many reasons to laugh and be happy again.
Lorraine, I also took a look at your new nips. WoW! They look great!!!
Superscared, I'm so sorry that you're joining us here, but glad that you're into natural healing. I agree with vivre that integrative is the way to go, but of course that will still leave you with all sorts of decisions, once you know your pathology. I also think Victoria makes a very good point -- what works for someone, may not work for another -- especially because each of our bcs seems to be so individual. So I think it's extremely important to know our own bodies and remain open to everything that's out there. I also heard a story last week about a local woman who had advanced cancer of the liver, was written off by her docs, and is now cancer-free after adopting a plant-based diet.
As far as natural aromotese inhibitors go, I think research being done at City of Hope with grape seed extract sounds very promising:

http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00100893
What's up with Anom? Her absence here leaves a real void. Deanna

Dear smallworld123:
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. You are really very brave. I can understand why you are hesitant to let your colleagues know about your breast cancer status: indeed, everything changed for me after my diagnostic, though I did not lose my job. You are justified to be careful.
Please take care of yourself.
Another VERIA channel lover, here. It is such a refreshing place to be on TV!
About Aromatase Inhibitors, how about tocotrienols? Don't they also have an AI action?

I read on MSN today that Jeremy Piven the actor stated that he grew boobs because he drank so much soy milk!........interesting!
Thanks so much for all of the great comments on my nips!! made my day!
Did you guys read the tocotrienols thread? Lots of great info!

I sure suck at finding these threads! Where is the tocotrienols thread? You guys mention things and I can't find them. I have the same trouble with the phone book. I AM NOT A STUPID PERSON. Why can't I do this?????

Luna: Just push "search" up there, then type "tocotrienols" in the box (I found them after doing a "search" on Fairy49's posts, so you can find information any way you want).

Thank you, Fairy. Finally found it. I try to follow your lead. The key word here is TRY. I am directionally challenged!

Viv - I take 500 mg tablets of broken cell wall chlorella - 8 tablets per day. I was taking 10 but I just couldn't take that many any more. The high doses are for chelation. My mercury levels have come down since I have been taking the chlorella but apparently it can take up to 4 years to get mercury out of your system. So, for me to see any change after a few months was encouraging. I get them at Whole Foods.

For those of you who have tried to make comments on the "cause of cancer" thread, beware of the person who's name starts with a B. You know who I mean merrilee. It is our resident troll. Notice that all its posts are in opposition to anything on the alternatives. This person joins constantly with new ID's. Don't feed the troll.

vivre,
You wrote that a compounding pharmacist does your iodoral.
Does he/she make it availabe via mailorder?
0 -
Viv - yes, I saw that - nasty, nasty, nasty. So unnecessary and counterproductive. UGH.

Food, Inc. came yesterday from Netflix, I watched it last night.
For folks who are familiar with CAFO's, monsanto vs. Polyface Face Farm and Michael Pollan -
there wasn't much new info.
If those names are new to you - I'd recommend the film...

Thanks for the support guys, I really need it. Now, I just have to figure out how to tell my mom. She has been the hardest all along because she wants to take it all away from me. Isn't it funny how we protect the children in our lives. My neice has been having weird illnesses since she was about three and every night I pray to give anything to me as long as my two little neices are left alone. Ah, that melodrama I forgot about is back. Sorry - you are all prob right, it's just leftover surgery stuff.
viv, I will always be your faithful geek! I haven't started the iodine yet. ...the quack messed up with my loading kit so Ive been in contact with Lynn from breastcancerchoices to get one from them. I did mention this to the radioloist and she was interested in learning more because so many women, ages 20-80 complain of pain that is not 'seen'. I started the Breast Health supplement again just to see if the calcification disappears by Monday (Im doing my own research here too). It was causing me to clot so I stopped it until I get my port out. Im doing the biopsy this monday, whatever it is, I want it out immediately so I can move on. The therm will have hot spots there bc of my surgery but I do believe in it so pls send pics my way.
Anyway, I hate being on hold like this. I wish I could be more like the steadfast ladies who make a decision and are two thousand percent on it. My gut has gotten me into a lot of trouble in the past - I was just fortunate that nothing completely horrible happened to me. ...except of course the cancer but that wasn't entirely my fault.
Very interesting article, I will NOT show my dentist who a. is trying to convert me to become a born again Christian and b. get me to floss every single night bc she thinks the same, that cancer is caused by poor dental hygeine.

I just have to say... this thread is really a place of refuge. I am still a little shell-shocked from some of the replies I got on THIS (alternative/complementary) forum... shouldn't a forum called that be safe from having people tell you you're going to die if you don't get chemo?? Anyway, I'm very thankful for you girls here and wish we didn't have to hide in one thread just to talk freely about our approaches without being scolded.
vivre, what a cute story -- and I'm so glad CoQ10 has had good effects for you, too! Did you read the Folkers research about it?
asschercut, thank you for the info and the encouraging stories!
Fairyfloss, you are terrific... thanks for sharing your approach here and on other threads.
I'm so happy to have found you all here!!
