Hi Ladies,
I am currently undergoing chemo. I have been working with a naturopath (my regular onc rolls his eyes) who has me on a Taxol Blend Multi, weekly Vitmin C High Dose IV's (with b complex and glutathione), and what feels to be about a zillion other herbal supplements (some Chinese Mushrooms thrown in for good measure too). I was reading about the estrogen etc on Beth's wonderful post. Can I assume that I should not check my levels until postchemo? Or is this something that I should take a look at now? I take Dim and Indole 3 supplements, but have not taken Iodoral. My initial biopsy was er/pr positive, then post mx all samples were er/pr negative. The onc says tamoxifen to follow...but that doesn't necessarily make sense to me. Any thoughts?

Well I will leave the talk of hot flashes and periods to you younguns. I am done will all of that, thankfully!
PS-What time are you going under the knife? We will organize a group prayer hug for you.
GeeWhiz-You will find we have differering points of view here on the tamox. It is a really tough decision. Just make sure you know all the pros and cons, and not just the stats the docs spout off before you make the decision. We have had long discussions on this, on different threads around here. You will find lots of links on those threads too and lots of arguments! It seems those who choose one way often think they should tell others what to do. My opinion is that we each need to do what we feel is best for us. I just hated the idea of popping a pill of chemicals, so I found other ways to balance my estrogen levels. Losing weight, diet, exercise, and supplements can often do the same thing. Sounds like you have a great ND, so you are ahead of many of us, who did not have one while going through treatments. You have the best of both worlds. We will be here for you too!
I have been trying something called "oilpulling". It sounds really gross, and is, but I am desparate to get rid of my post nasal drip. I know it is from a bacterial infection and until I can get my fillings out, maybe this will be helpful. I will let you know how it goes.

You guys, I have been having bouts with the flashes too. The Black Cahosh does help but does not last through the night. I take evening Primrose oil too but it takes about 6 weeks to get into your system. Hope this helps and hope they go away really fast! If you hear of anyother things that help please post!
PS73 I had issues with the after pain meds as well.I was so paranoid on the Loritab. I had to keep reminding myself that it was the medicine.I will pray for things to go well for you! good luck! Hug to you!

PS73 I itch from drugs like morphine, but am able to take vicodin. I assume you have tried them all already if you know you can't take them. After my first surgery they switched the IVs from Morphine to Dilaudid to whatever so fast and without drying out periods...so at first I thought I was allergic to all of them. I hope you tried different ones in isolation instead of on the heals of already present reactions.
Good thoughts and painless recovery coming your way!

Hello Ladies,
PS73-LOT and LOTS of healing light will be sent your way this Friday. Praying for a pain-free recovery as well. (((((BIG HUG))))). Stay Strong.
I also have hot flashes. some days I do not get them at all, then other days I cannot stop sweating for even a moment(very fatigued and depressed on those days). I tried Black Cohosh as well with no luck. I have not tried evening primrose yet. Does this sound like premenopause or is this full blown meno??? Thanks Ladies.
Jenny.

Wow! ..feeling the love
Merilee - Im having a bmx this friday. I had a lumpectomy already but after a scary mammo/biopsy I decided that I don't want to let this disease rule me anymore. How are you doing? How are you feeling? When do you start treatment or did you already? You have been in my thoughts.
Thanks for the info on the diluaded - Im def going to bring this up. I have ambian and valium as a back up to sleep thru everything post op but will try the melatonin first. I will also take arnica under the tongue the night before and for four days post op. I found out the bromelain is in the stem of the pineapple so Ive been juicing one stem daily.
For the prayer chain it is at 12:30. And I cant thank you gals enough for doing it, you are all so incredibly amazing, I am so happy I found you

Sorry to hear about your scare. That is the worst part of this disease. I don't think you will regret the BX.
I am starting treatment this Thursday. I will do 6 rounds of CMF. I am at peace with it and think I am well prepared. I have put together a chemo kit. It contains every remedy that any side effect will need.
I will be thinking of you on Friday. At 12:30 just open you mind to the love that will be flowing.

Good luck to all who are having surgery and Merilee, hope that your chemo goes well.
For those of you with hot flashes and perimenopause/full menopause, I started 2-3 years ago with night sweats, several skipped periods, and loss of sexual sensations. My Gyn told me to take phytoestrogen capsules containing soy, black cohosh, EPO, and B vits. I got them at GNC and they worked great for all my symptoms, even brought back regular periods. Then came my BC diagnosis a couple of months later, so I stopped taking them. And the same problems returned. With the tamoxifen, hot flashes have gotten worse, and I've now been 10 months with no period, so I know that another 2 months will confirm postmenopausal status. Kind of makes me feel sad, thinking that my ovaries might just shrivel up into complete nonproduction of any good hormones. Talking with one of the Gyns I work with, he told me that they continue to put out some testosterone, even after menopause, but pretty much no estrogen or progesterone.
I've gotten the mojo back at times, but currently am looking for it again. I'm looking into taking other types of phytoestrogens like red clover and have been reading a lot about an adaptogenic herb called MACA, which is supposed to help with all menopause symptoms. I'm holding off for now though, because it's supposed to boost estrogen levels, so not 100% sure yet if it's a good idea. I want more naturally produced estrogen and/or testosterone in my system to help the Mojo problem, but don't want to increase my risk of reoccurrence either.
For the hot flashes, I've been on something recommended by my Onc, called tincture of rhubarb for 3 weeks now. It seems to be finally kicking in. I haven't had any night sweats in several nights and only 1-2 hot flashes a day. It's actually sold as a purgative, not for hot flashes, but as per my Onc, studies done in Germany have found it very effective for hot flashes.

In turn, I am sending positive vibes, to join all other positive vibes being sent right now. No doubt Merilee and PS73 will feel all this energy very soon.0

Patty - nice to see the real you! Great photo!

Thanks all. I don't like the photo one bit. My daughter says it is to posed, lol. Will have to work on that!
Deanna - Did you buy pomegranate juice yet? I got sticker shock big time!!!
Patty

Haven't bought pomegranate juice yet, Patty, after remembering I'd had an odd-shaped bottle of it in the frig for months that I'd finally tossed out b'cuz it tasted so awful, I couldn't figure out how to use it. I think that new research sounds promising enough to give it another try, but I was also going to ask if anyone has any ideas for using it.
Rose, I know what you mean about mojo. It's becoming a serious problem in my house, too! The progesterone helped a bit, but both my lifted breast and my new nipple are still sore enough that mojo is the last thing on my mind, and that's starting to wear thin around here.
Merilee, did you tell us what time your infusion is? Deanna

Sending warm healing thoughts to PS . And Merilee good luck with the CMF. I did it and while it is not fun, it is doable so to speak.

I actually like the taste of the "Just Pomgranate" that I buy so I top off my green tea with it since I find the green tea to be a bit yucky. I make my tea pretty strong to make sure I am getting 7 to 10 cups a day including at least 4 tea bags of the Johns Hopkins SGH Brassica Tea. I'm always pretty heavy handed...have to continually warn myself that if a little is good, that doesn't mean a lot is better. So, since I actually like the taste of the Pomgranate straight; I may not be the best one to give advice. I am glad to hear that it is in fact good for us. I was beginning to think maybe I should stop fruit juices because of all the natural sugar. This stuff has 36 grams of sugar in 8 oz. How much are we supposed to have each day for health benefits?

My infusion is at 9:30
