    Patty and Julia-

Best of luck to you both!

Deanna- I have switched my green tea supplements several times. I had read that you need some caffeine in order to get the benefits of green tea, so I get my green tea supplements from Life Extension and I take one lightly caffeinated(equal to 5 cups green tea) and one decaffeinated capsule a day.I chose their supplements as they have a high amount of ECGC.

I would love to know if someone feels very strongly about the green tea supplements they are taking. I am wanting the high ECGC levels, but also concerned about fluoride levels and contaminants.

    Question about B-Complex vitamins.

Do I want PABA in it or not?

    Thanks.

Like the rest of you, I have been spending a lot of time and money on supplements the past few years, and wondering if I was getting what I was paying for. I found a book, published in Canada that compares the quality of different brands. I was looking for a company to endorse on my website and one company consistantly rated above the rest, in all categories. This company has it's own pharma grade standards, and are meticulous about quality control. There fish oil has no mercury and their vitamins have no fillers. They get top ratings for absorbability and are recommended by two of the doctors whose books put me on the path to wellness, Christiane Northrup and Ray Strand. They are even given perfect 5's against the metagenics products my doctor recommends, which tend to get 3 ratings. The company is called Usana. If any of you would like to be the Usana liaison for your area, let me know. At the very least, you could earn enough to pay for your supplements, and know you are getting top quaility products. Check out their website, and PM if you want to know more.

Pharmanex is another quality brand. I'd be interested in what your book says about them, Vivre. I used to be a distributer, but let them go several years ago when I changed to Liffe Force's Body Balance. But I'll look into Usana--too many of the other brands are not standardized, have traces of lead and cadmium, and just aren't what they say. At least, according to Consumer Labs, and I don't think they have an agenda, but I could be wrong...

Hi, vivre ~ Thanks for the info about Usana.  For those of us who would like to check on or compare the ratings of other supplement brands, could you share the name of the book you referred to above?   Thanks.  I'm also going to PM you about a couple of things.

I appreciate the green tea input above.  Here are a couple of charts I found to put the amounts in a supplement such as the one Barbara posted about into perspective.   Deanna  http://www.cspinet.org/new/cafchart.htm#table_teas

Is there a book that highlights what is good to eat to fight cancer?  That perhaps  I could check out from the library or purchase to get me going in the right direction?

Also, I read some here about juicing... is this good to do?  I have a juicer, I used to juice everyday til I just .. dunno.. got to busy with the kids I guess. But I'm not familiar with health benefits, or what is the best to juice. Honestly, I just juiced because it taste so good.  For example, I won't eat raw carrots, but I absolutely LOVE carrot juice.

Any suggestions, help, tips, book ideas, etc would be helpful.

     Thanks.

Here's the link to the Mayo Study:

They are testing dosages at 200mg, 400mg, 600mg and 800mg.

Anne, Try Foods to Fight Cancer by Richard Beliveau and the Anti-Cancer by David Servan-Schreiber. I found these to be very good.

Anne, I second Anti-Cancer, A New Way of Life, and think it should be at the top of everyone's list.  Beating Cancer With Nutrition, Patrick Quillan, PhD, RD, CNS; Life Over Cancer, Keith Block, M.D.; and The China Study, T. Colin Campbell, PhD., are also all good.

Plenty of previous pages here have discussed juicing, recommendations for juicers, and juice recipes.  Maybe look back through this thread, or do a search (far right above) to find those lengthy discussions.

Maya ~ I'm impressed that the Mayo study is using so many different doses of Grape Seed Extract.  The 100 gr. I've recently started taking makes me incredibly stiff in the mornings.  But I'm really pleased to know that they're testing up to 800 gr., so hopefully results won't come up short for any of us -- pre-, peri or post menopause.  Of course, the drug companies will then be all over it, tweeking it until it has really bad SE's (LOL).    Deanna

Just wondering if anyone else has had bloating and gas after taking vitamin B. I started taking a Vit B complex pill about 3 weeks ago and have felt bloated ever since, especially after eating. I wake up every morning feeling fine and then once I take the pill, I feel bloated after a couple of hours. Anyone else have issue like this?

Terri ~  One possibility that comes to mind, does the B-Complex you're taking contain cellulose?  If it does, I'd suspect that and maybe try a different brand.  Sometimes I think it can be an accumulation of or the combined effect of too much celluose and/or other inactive fillers.   Deanna

Gosh I am amazed that up to 800 mgs of Grape Seed Extract is being tested.. I found 200 mgs way too strong to the point that it caused severe hip pain which went away after a reduction in the dosage. But yes, I agree, glad they are testing different dosages!

We are talking mg (milligrams) with the Grape Seed Extract aren't we?  Geez...the only Grape Seed Extract I can find in my local health food stores are waaaaay higher in strength to the ones you guys are taking.

This is all l can find here in Melbourne Australia...

Blackmores 12,000mg, THOMPSON'S Grape Seed 19,000mg vege caps, and Hilde Hemmes' Grape Seed 12000mg.

I've been alternating between Thompsons, and Hilde Hemmes'...for ages.

Has anyone else developed Axillary Web Syndrome/Cording? I developed it some month's back and did all the massaging and exercises, required... and it disappeared. But two weeks ago, l did a hell of a lot of gardening/pruning over the weekend and it came back. It's painful.Cry I was told that it would go away...but it seems every time I do something strenuous... this rather large cord pops back out again.

Here's a patients story of what she went through. Mine hasn't gone right down the arm as hers did. I hope it never will.

In the mean time l guess l shall continue to massage the area.

Here is a link to the nutritional supplements guide: http://www.comparativeguide.com/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=10

I think you can get it cheaper elsewhere. While many supplements are rated equal to Usana, none have as many 5 star ratings. They also have million dollar offer to any athlete who is disquailified because of a Usana product. That is how careful they are about quality control. But the real thing that sold me on sticking to this line was the fact that the first two books I read, when I started this journey to holistic wellness were Dr. Ray Strand's(What your doctor doesn't know about nutrition . . .) and Dr. Cristiane Northrups(The Wisdom of Menopause). Both docs are affiliated with this company. It was one of those full circle moments. Also, since they have some really great combos, I can cut down on the number of bottles I have to open. You can also have them packaged the way you choose, so that you just grab a pack in the AM and PM and go. They do have soy in the protein bars and shakes, but I do not use that kind of stuff anyway. But they guarantee it is not GMO and pesticide free soy. I do like their chocolate whey shake. It is low glycemic, and actually tastes good, not chalky like some protein drinks. It is a great meal replacement and keeps me feeling full all morning.

Victoria-have you tried rebounding? You need to get the lymph moving and nothing is better than rebounding. I bounce everyday. It is the only exercise that moves every cell in the body at the same time. I love it, and as a former PE teacher, I have done every kind of exercise invented. Rebounding is my favorite by far.

I agree with you all that Anticancer is a great book, and a must have. I have read so many books, and they have all been so inspiring. I am trying to get a summary of them all written to post on my site, and I hope you will all add your two cents. Reading has helped me more than anything. I Knowlege is power. Anyone in the Chicago area, stop by and see us at Veggiefest this weekend. It is a fantastic event! I will be demonstrating the rebounder and a portable FarInfaredSauna to encourage prevention.

Truvia sweetener can cause gas and bloating in some people. I couldn't use it. But I'm doing fine with stevia that hasn't been tweaked. It was the last thing I suspected.

Deanna: I did check and my B complex does have cellulose. So do some of my other supplements as well. Maybe the B complex is what pushed me over! I stopped taking it for the last 2 days and I do feel a bit better already so I'll be off to the health food store to try out another brand. The brand I am presently taking is from NSI.

Fairy: Sorry to hear you're going through the same thing!

Vivre: Thanks for the great link and info on Usana. Definitely worth looking into and the combining supplements into one pill is great...I hate having to pop all these pills daily!

    HELLO all :)

I haven't been on in a while. I hope everybody is doing well :). I have gotten a bit of bad news yesterday. My LDH has been going up slowly over the past 3 months and now all of a sudden it spiked to 359 (results as of 8/3). I am very scared :(. Please pray that it isn't anything serious. Thank you ladies very much. May God bless.

Thought some of you might find his interesting:

    http://www.livingsoil.co.uk/learning/plants.html

Speaking of chemicals, I was at Wal-Mart (hate that store) a couple of days ago and picked up a Revlon lip stain.  Normally, I check out products in the cosmetics database before I buy them, but I liked the color and the promise that it would last 8 or 12 hours.  But I was so disappointed when I put it on -- it has an overwhelming petroleum taste.  I guess I've used natural products for so long that the taste & smell of this one was particularly noxious.  The further irony of it is (and one of the reasons I'd even justified buying a Revlon product), is where I've been treated -- The Revlon Breast Center at UCLA.  Don't you all wish these sorts of bc funding vs. doing the right thing for our health conflicts didn't exist?!   Obviously a topic for another thread, but I just had to share the experience with you because I know you'll all get my disappointment and frustration over it!     Deanna

    Hey there Vivre!

Yep I have been rebounding, and exercise on a daily basis. I must admit, I don't use my mini tramp every day but most days I make an effort. I do love exercising on the beach, but it's been quite cold of late so I prefer to exercise indoors when it's so cold. Can't wait for the warmer months!!

It's winter here and I have many fruit trees and hundreds of roses to prune. In the future I'll try not to get too much done all at once. I have a lot of energy with all the super foods I take, and I overexert myself.

Anyway, my armpit looks a tad better today.

    Have a great weekend ladies...xoxo

Hi everyone. I've been busy reading Dr. Lee's book and checking out another anti estrogenic diet. Met with a hormone spec. this week too. Had saliva tests sent away and will be looking forward to the results. I don't want to take the arimidex the onc wants me to take unless it can be balanced somehow. Sometimes I think I'm on overload with information..... He did want me to start DIM after the tests and until I see him again. Says he uses compounded arimidex for some patients but balances it with other hormones if needed. At least he's willing to listen to me and search for a protocol that will work for me. The Onc just checked my pulse, ears, heart rate and said ok, ready to write that prescription! UGH.

My acupuncturist was glad I was having the testing done. He's a MD (China) but practices AP here.

Also find interesting the many diverse methods of treating this "disease". Until then, I'll keep searching and listening to your great information.

    Glad it's Friday!

Deanna, I have been hearing a lot of negative things about resveratrol and monavie and those veggies alive mixes. They are not testing out to be what they claim to be. There are only 4 companies that use pharmaceutical standards to test their products, as opposed to food grade. These are the only companies who have been given 5 out of 5 ratings on their products(I can't remember all the names, but they are in that book). And only one company gets 5's on almost all of their products, Usana. I saw a test done with an apple slice in an antioxidant dissovled in water. It compared centrum, usana, life extension, and one other. After a few days, the usana apple slice was still natural color and crisp. All of the others had turned black. That sure convinced me. I know I sound like an infomercial. LOL ,but this has been something that I have really been concerned about for a long time. I am relieved that I finally found a product I can trust. Now I don't have to spend all that time in the vitamin stores, trying to decipher the good from the bad.

Luna-As for the rebounder. I had a cheapo one for a while. I thought it was fine, then I tried a Needak. WOW, what a difference! Like driving a beamer vs a lemon. It has a lot more bounce and is very quiet. Since it is heavier, it does not jump off the floor when you bounce. My old one could wake the dead. They have a folding model and a stationary one. Since I never put it away, I just use the stationary one. We are selling them at the veggiefest and if you call Needak and tell them I sent you, I bet Chris would give you the discounted price. Just mention that you heard about them from me. The folder retails for $344, special VF price, $294. The stationary MRP is $322 and the VP price is $272. I really think it is worth it since I use it every day, and it has a lifetime warrantee. Plus it is made in the USA. They have a stabilizing bar but I never need it. I put my ironing board nearby just in case I need a little balance, but I am pretty good at it now. Also, it is great to do crunches on because it puts no pressure on the back. I also do some yoga poses on it. BEST PIECE OF EXERCISE EQUIPMENT I EVER HAD. And as a PE teacher, I have tried them all. I am not selling these on my site, just promoting them as a thanks for Needak's sponsorship.

Victoria-Since it is so cold down under, maybe I can sell you a FIR too! LMAO! I know I sound like I am just trying to make money here, but I really am not. These three products are, I feel, such tremendous tools for prevention, I just want to encourage everyone to use them. There is no better way to detox than in a FIR and the portable one that we are going to sponsor on our site is reasonably priced. There is no better exercise than a rebounder. It moves every cell in the body and helps the lymphatic system get out the toxins. And a good quality supplement is worth it's weight in gold. I just feel this triple assault is better than any pill big pharma will ever come up with. They are sold on a site called momentum98.com Again, I am not selling these products, just thanking these great sponsors with products I really believe in. If you ask Phil from momentum, he will give you a discount too.

Deanna, I stopped using any kind of lipstick when I read 90 % of them have lead! Can you believe it! It just infuriates me that companies like Avon and Revlon continue to pretend they care about women, and still put these carcinogens in their products. They make billions off of us by selling their carcinogens, and then billions more with their "pinkwashing". One of these days, we are going to expose this scam.

Hi vivre, I appreciate you sharing your conclusions on the supplements here.  My sister in law gave me Dr Northrup's book when I was newly dx'd.  I remember thinking, I'm so sure I'm going to read an 800 page book at a time like this!  I was hooked from the very first page and read it cover to cover.  I read Dr Strand's book more recently and really liked it also.

I started eating fresh ground flaxseeds with my yogurt based on Dr Northrup's recommendation in her book, and that was long before I ever heard of the budwig protocol.  I also remember her speaking about estrogen and progesterone, how estrogen makes cells cycle in, and progesterone makes them cycle out.

All this time I've been wondering why is all the focus on suppressing estrogen??   Why aren't we learning more about progesterone??  Now I'm about 100 pages into Dr Lee's book, and I'm REALLY wondering WHY isn't there more attention spent on progesterone??   I know we live in a money-driven world and all .... but in the world according to ME Wink there should be enough of us web savvy, smart women with some of our own money to spend as we see fit  ...and we could be fixing our own estrogen imbalances by increasing our insufficient levels of progesterone!  I wonder how many cases of us fixing our own hormone levels would it take for the 'standard of care' to change.

Can anyone give me any advice?

Wow, samsue, your onc actually will monitor your hormones. I am impressed. I asked mine Wed. and he reluctantly agreed to test me. I wonder if he will explain what the results mean. I mean, what good is the test if I don't understand what the results mean.
