Never shared this but I stopped taking Melatonin after my deceased aunt appear in my dream. It was so vivid and I was hiding behind a person because she was smiling and trying to come near me. She died of breast cancer and she wasn't on my mom's BFF list either. I was so afraid I woke up and grabbed my husband tight. Didn't want to scare anyone so I never shared this it happen about two months ago when I first started taking it.

    Sherry,

I took antidepressants for years that either didn't work at all or only worked a little for a while. For some reason, since cancer, the depression is almost gone. There are so many things that have changed that I'm not sure why I feel more up. But I believe the green tea is helping, even though I  do decaf. If you do decaf green tea, make sure it's been decaffeinated either with effervescence or by this procedure that I don't know exactly what it's  called, but it involves CO2 and heat. this way the antioxidants are preserved.

    Vivre,

I've been on sites where even advocates of natural medicine are nasty. Very opinionated in a judgemental or critical way, not trusting, and at all, though. It's nice to be able to chat and listen and learn whether we agree with each other or not. I mean, once you've had something like cancer happen and you're looking for other people who've been there, isn't the idea to get something that feels good out of the experience?

Fighter: I am so sorry to hear abot your aunt, your nightmare and it is natural to have that fear!  Maybe she was actually trying to contact you and  trying to help you since you also have BC!  The dreams can be very realistic and vivid but it does go away!  Melatonin is really necessary for us!

vivre, yes, I did listen to the interviews with Robert Young and Donna Gates.  Donna's book is now on my list of things to read, his isn't.  Nothing he said resonated with me.  I thought he seemed very full of himself, dismissive of anyone with a different opinion, and inflexible.  Sadly, I got an impression from the first day's interviews that Dr Gabriel Cousens was a bit full of himself too.  I have a lot of respect for Dr Cousens and have read one of his books and many of his articles.  I knew he played football during his youth, but I didn't realize that he's quite the fitness buff all these decades later.  Maybe he's just highly competitive.  Even so, I'm still a fan of his.  He seems to have a voracious appetite for reading studies and I place a lot of confidence in his opinions.

mbj and hlth4513-thanks for the info on the melatonian.  I have some and have taken it before but did not realize that you need to take it every night.  I will start tonight with it.

Rachel-I drink alot of tea and only do decaf.  I make sure it is organic decaf that way I know that the decaf processing is done the right way.  It is very hard to find organic decaf tea but I have found some places on the internet where I can order it.

For all you veteran supplement takers, I am wondering if it is better to take them in certain combinations?  Right now I am sort of splitting them into 3 groups and taking them with meals.  Did I hear that you are not supposed to take Iodine with vitamin C?  I am taking:  Fish oil, D3, vitamin C, turmeric, calcium.  Today I am adding Iodoral,ATP cofactor, Melatonin and DIM.  Pheeew!  Never imagined I would take all these, always ate extremely healthily.  I am now convinced there must be things missing that I don't get from food.

    Designer Mom -

Dr. Brownstein and the other Iodine docs say that they take the Iodoral/Lugol's at the same time as  Vtamin C. The owner of teh Iodine Yahoo group takes them at the same time, as well, and she has recovered from cancer, so she feels it did not interfere. There was some speculation that the Vitamin C interfered - but they claim that not to be the case. Having said that - especially with water soluble supplements - like B's and Vtamin C - it is best to spilt the doses throughout the day. For example, If you are taking more than one ATP co-factor - you can split your Iodoral and ATP into two doses and take half with breakfast and lunch. You won't want to take your Iodoral much past 2:00 in the afternoon, as it could interfere with your sleep.

I split my DIM into two doses - Breakfast and Dinner.

It helps absorption if you have some fat with your VitD3.

I have found that curcumin/tumeric bothers my stomach if I don't take it with food.

I haven't had a chance to investigate the info that Deanna had about splitting D3 doses. I have been taking all of mine, at bedtime..

    Hi Amber!
I didn't do chemo until recently as I went the natural way.  I also spent lots of money to go to the Burzynski clinic.  Did you do chemo?

    Designer Mom,

My nutritionist has me splitting out my supplements, as some minerals and vitamins affect the uptake and absorption of others. I take my multi-vitamin at a different time from my zinc, since zinc and copper (which my multi has) negate each other.  I also take my CoQ10 and my Turmeric at lunch, since taking it with magnesium also alters the absorption rate of free-radical fighters.  I don't know all the rules, but those are the basics that I got from my nutritionist.

Sherryc- Another thing that helps with sleep (and makes you have freaky dreams, too!) is magnesium. I've had some very vivid, wild dreams due to taking magnesium, but I also sleep soundly and will not wake up for anything. That's saying a lot, considering that I have a 3 yr old, 5 yr old and 8 yr old! Good thing my husband can still hear them, because I cannot!!

    Sherry,

What  site do you order organic decaf green  tea from? I get it at MOMs. I've bought it in the regular grocery store if it's naturally decaffeinated (sometimes the label specifies nat decaf is done with effervesence. I guess I'm not being too bright on the rare occasions I'm not checking to see just how it's "natural" if it doesn't  specify).

    Marianna,

Thanks for the info on what supplements counter others. So much to learn! I guess you all know that in addition to what I"ve seen referenced in this thread, selenium is real good - and cinammon. One great whole food  source of selenium is brazilian nuts.

    Lynne F,

I know a woman who was dx stage IV breast  cancer not quite a year ago. It was in her liver and she had to have her gall bladder out - got so sick from chemo that  she had to quit and was in the hospital for weeks. Here's the uplifting part! She's become vegan and has read up on what herbs and supplements are best for her and does Tamoxifen for ER +and her tumor shrunk 30 percent in a month. Last I talked to her she was still doing great.

I'll try and dig up some of what she's e-mailed me as far as what  she's doing if you want. But I guess if you're on this  thread you know already that you should talk to a good herbologist before randomly taking supplements. Good luck to you  sweetie. I hope all goes well for you.

Marianna and hlth4513-  Thanks so much for the tips on combining supplements.  I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Does anyone know of any good vitamin organizer boxes?  I have some of those little ones with the day of the week, but they are too small for all my supplements.  If there isn't already an all-in-one breakfast, lunch, dinner 7 day dispenser, boy could I come up with a great design!  Anyone have opinions?

LynneF:  I would love to hear about your experience at the Burzinski clinic.  Was it worth going?  Did it help at all?  I personally believe that your health can be turned around with food, supplements but also by releasing the past.

Rachaelka,  You may want to try the Brassica decaf green tea.  It is made by scientists who discovered SGS the next generation antioxidant from broccoli.   The John's Hopkins breast cancer site recommends the tea (3 cups a day).  Actually it is patented and licensed by John Hopkins University.    If you can't find it locally you can order online at www.brasssicatea.com.  They can also tell you if it is sold locally where you live.  I am trying to get the Whole Foods Market here to carry it.   They also have other tea, the green tea with orange, with lemon and some other teas that contain the SGS.

I used melatonin for quite a while after and during treatments. It difinitely gives you vivid dreams. Now I just take a little, and not on a regular basis because I am sleeping so well again. Usana has one called Pure Rest that is just the dosage I need. I found that taking more than just 2 mg left me groggy.

DesignerMom-Go to the hardware store and get one of those plastic containers that hold odds and ends in little compartments. I use my label maker to write the names of my supplements inside the lid, over each corresponding compartment.

As I said, I used to take a lot more supplements. I have since learned that while too much won't hurt you in most cases, our bodies will just eliminate them, wasting money. Also, spending any money on supplements that are of low quality is a total waste. Usana scientists have done such a great job of combining the right ingredients for synergy. No supplement works on its own. They all need each other. I feel so liberated that I do not have to think so much about it anymore. Not only do I trust that Usana products are not tainted in anyway, since they follow pharma standards for manufacturing, they must guarantee that what is on the label is in the bottle. I use to think that I had to take more than what the Usana Essentials has of certain things. Now I know better because my test results have finally improved, on less. This is all I take now: Usana Essentials, which is a combo of chelated minerals and antioxidants, Biomega 3 (mercury free), Proflavanol (combo of Vit c and grape seed), Hepasil (liver support with tumeric, milk thistle, etc etc), Visionex(for my failing eyesight, I can even read better right after I take this), and Vit. D (it comes in 2000iu tabs, I only take one as there is already 2000 in the essentials). The only other thing I take is my iodine, which I take in the morning with the Essentials, since it contains the ATP cofactors. Sometimes I will add garlic and more tumeric to the regime, and I put extra cinnamon in the Usana protein shake I have each day. Yeah, I know I sound like a broken record, but we are here to share our experiences. This has simplified my life so much. I no longer have to keep researching supplements. I can spend my time on other things with the confidence that my supplement regime is primed.

Lynn, I would love to hear about the Burzinski clinic too. That is one that Suzanne Somers talks about. I know someone who went there, but has also gone to Sanoviv 3 times. She has a late stage cancer and has been going there for years for assessments and treatments. They stress nutrition and detox. Everything is totally organic, no TV or internet. It is on the ocean at a place where the air is supposed to be one of the purest places in the world (Baja). I am seriously thinking of going there to finish my dental overhaul. It will actually be cheaper than doing it here, and I can walk on the beach! Anyone want to join me?

vivre-  What a good suggestion to use a hardware organizer box.  I think I'll go over to Michaels.  I think they have things for organizing craft beads.  Also thank you for your vitamin regimen.  As I replace some of my vitamins, I may choose some of your combos, makes sense.  You say you take your iodine with your Essentials because they have ATP cofactors.  I am looking at my ATP bottle and it has :  Riboflavin 100 mg. and Niacin (as inositol hexanicotinate) 500 mg.  Do the Usana Essentials have all of that?  About dental bills, don't get me started!  I still owe mine $3,000.  I have to say I love and trust my dentist.  I wouldn't be inclined to go near Mexico these days because of the drug dealing crime and mayhem that is going on there.  My friend has had all of her medical and dental work done in Thailand.  She is amazed at how professional and kind they are.  She spends 2 months each winter on a beach and takes care of all her needs.  By the way, her complete physical including labs cost $29!!! Thailand plus beach is looking mighty good right now!

    Designermom,

It's very important to get the ATP formula in the amounts and form on the bottle. 500 mg hexianicotinate is a true niacin engineered to be no-flush. You don't want any substitutes like niacinamide. And you need the 100 mg Riboflavin. I've never seen these quantities in any multivitamin. The tablet would have to be too large. Taking the ATP really made a difference in my iodine absorption. I resisted taking it for six months and it was a mistake. Dr. Flechas seems to know which people need what.

I'm on Stephanie's (she got her doctorate yesterday!)  4,000 member Iodine group on Yahoo. And most of those people have found the same thing.

BTW, my neighbor got his mouth "done" in Thailand. He looks terrific and saved a fortune.

mollyann-  Thanks for the feedback on iodine and ATP cofactor.  I don't think I will mess with substitutes as these were designed to work together.  I joined the yahoo iodine group, but am still finding my way around to get info.  It is huge!

Deanna, If I remember right, you asked about some alternatives to the decaf coffee or finding some substitutes to drink. I gave up coffee almost a year ago and now drink mainly green tea but once in a while I have Roma - a roasted grain beverage. It tastes similar to coffee and I mix it with cocoa if I want to really indulge. I also like Rostaroma that Celestial Seasons makes. This has tea, grain and other ingredients that make it taste similar to coffee.

I've been using a coffee press for my green tea leaves. It really works great. The leaves are pressed down just like the coffee granules and they don't go thru the filter when you pour. This way I can make more than a cup at a time - I like to use the leaves instead of  tea bag whenever I can.

Deanna-  Thanks for the heads up on privacy.  That is why I never posted my photo while I was in active treatment.  I had heard that our doctors actually snoop here.  I wanted to be free to speak my mind here of all places.  When I "graduated" I hung up my ruby slipper photo and posted my face.  They can't get me now!

Any one else listening in on the "Great Health Debate" calls?  (Thanks for the earlier post about the forums.) Only had a chance to listen in on one.  Very interesting!

Saw the screening for the movie Forks over Knives at the Museum of Science in Boston this weekend.  It was great to see it jam packed!  It comes out in May and will be sure to create quite a stir about diseases and diet in America.  Among several individuals featured using food to "treat" their chronic diseases was a woman treated for breast cancer who is running marathons in her 70s. (I think her doctor was McDougal?) Anyway, here's a link to the preview  http://www.forksoverknives.com

p.s. So very true about some in the medical community.  Thankfully my oncologist has always encouraged my "alternative" practices.  Hmmm...wonder if we might actually become part of the main stream.

    Best health to everyone always!

I guess if the 'looky loos' (sp?) are going to be out there .. I hope that it is for good reason and that it will be of help to someone. There is lots of good info on here, I think that only good can surface when information from all our researches (and that is lots !) is spied upon and used elsewhere. Maybe even some will be adopted or considered by highly respected professionals???? Cheers!
