vivre, Is that the Morton Arboretum? If it is I agree one of the most beautiful places. There is so much about the Chicago area I miss. How I would love to be able to be there in October for the think beyond the pink weekend.

    Hey,

A couple of posts back, a few were talking of DIM treatment. You can buy DIM supplements. Life extensions is a great place to find supplements.

ThanksMscal72, I'm so used to ordering online that I totally forgot that my local healthfood store has a refrigerated compartment.

Vivre, I use Flax oil as part of my cancer protocol. You can't subsitute fish oils. Tho, I have tried fish oils additionally several times, even emulsified formulations, and they always repeat on me.

Great idea, getting Stephanie to speak. Remind us closer to the event and we will get the word out. Smile

PS--Are there any speakers on DIM available?

Merilee, it works for me.  The article is entitled Consistently Unhealthy.  It's a bit long, but so worth reading, as it really helps explain the mystery of why some beliefs (i.e. conventional vs. alternative) are virtually impossible to change, in spite of what science does or doesn't show.     Deanna

I think it helps to learn as much as we can about nutrition no matter what our doctors think.

The more we can help ourselves with good nutrition and keeping active to keep our bodies healthy the better off we will be.

Yes, kira, very troubling (sickening, actually) --  and in the case of overseas manufacturing with substandard regulations, one more example of the drug industry putting profits over people's lives. Deanna

You know what really makes me angry is how we are always hearing the homeopathic drugs might be unsafe and need to be monitored, yet this is allowed.

That same topic was on "the People's Pharmacy" this weekend (NPR). Very upsetting. You wish you could trust that the drugs you are taking are safe if you are getting them from a pharmacy!

Had my cochlear implant surgery yesterday in Tampa, on my right ear. Kind of good to be thinking about something not even remotely related to breast cancer. But I bounced back quickly, and I think it's because of all the supplements I take. I feel great and there's some pain in my head, but that is nothing compared to the pain of the BMX/recon. I'm going back to work tomorrow, since I don't see any reason to stay home... although I think people at the office might be a little freaked out by the big ole bandage around my head. :)

Joan...too bad it isn't Halloween...but still you could paint a bunch of "blood" on the bandage and really freak 'em out !

    Hi Ladies,

Great to hear all is well Joan. I couldn't agree more. I don't know where I'd be without all the superfoods/supplements I've been taking. They certainly helped in the bounce department.

I had an appointment with my BS on Monday and she said that she couldn't believe how wonderful my mammogram and ultrasound looked. She said that considering I used to have fibroadenoma, calcifications, cysts, a malignant tumour...and that my breasts were now crystal clear, was a credit to my protocol - and to continue doing what I am doing. She also said my images "merit framing"...I was sooo happy. And now my appointments have finally been pushed forward to 6 monthly instead of 3.....Yay!

As for my yearly mammo...I really don't know what to do about that. My cancer bed is so high on my chest wall that I had bruising after my last mammogram. We shouldn't have to go through such pain around such a delicate area.

    Bloating...

Certain vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts...etc, contain raffinose...which causes gas and bloating. Now I've been fine with most of my vegetables...but cabbage just about killed me last night. I was sooo bloated I couldn't sleep, and I thought by morning it would have subsided - but it didn't. I was bloated all day. My genius hubby said "here, let me pull your finger." I wish it was as simple as breaking wind...but nothing!! Cabbage is definitely the culprit for me...whether it's raw or cooked.

    Hi ladies,

You are my "go to" group with any natural questions!!  I am wondering if any of you take ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid). I was reading about this and nerve damage, memory, etc. and it sounds like a good supplement to try. Would love to hear if any of you has experience with it.

    Thanks!

I take cinnamon ALA from LEF.org. Nice pairing because cinnamon is a good-for-you spice, and you're right about the ALA...

marianna DH was taking it for his neuropathy.  The last time we went to the neurologist she said she had just gotten in some research material that said it did not work like that had previously thought it did.  She said if you want to take it is fine, but I don't think it is really doing you any good.  So DH quit taking it.

Hi ladies!  Today is another anniversary for me.  I'm now 6 years out from unilateral mx with immediate diep flap reconstruction.  I travelled to New Orleans to receive the best medical experience of my entire life and I'm still a happy camper all these years later with my reconstruction.  ...mostly, anyway.  For whatever reason, the tatooing to simulate my nipple has faded.  And I still have some lumpy scar tissue that itches on occasion (I have keloids, abnormal scar tissue).

These issues are puny and they're my only complaints.  I'm grateful to this day to know that I'm capable of having medical care that makes me smile.  So much of what I've experienced locally is the polar opposite.  I've said it many times before, and I'll say it again -- travelling to get surgery from someone who specializes, who has lots of happy patients singing their praises, is SOOO worth the effort to get there.  And I'm grateful for the reconstruction section of bco where I learned about these wonderfully gifted surgeons.  I sure as heck wouldn't have even known there were any other options for reconstruction besides tram flap or implants if I depended solely on my local docs.

I'm also so grateful that this thread is still going strong, 2 years plus, and no dustups or imploding that's happening in other threads in this section.  I feel so lucky to have this place, lucky to feel good after a very long time of feeling like crap every day for years.  A lot of the things that brought me back to health was from information I found right here in this thread.  Love you all and have a great day.
