Thanks for that comment, upcreek. Life is indeed short, and we need to enjoy it to the fullest. I am trying...  have discovered a love of nice(er) clothes with the help of those few lost pounds, am having fun in the studio again (finally!), am going to have a great time on my trip next week. And I'm looking for more. I'll share the current studio project with you all if it comes out well.

If I can't get back to the computer this weekend I'll take you all with me in my heart, ceramics conference trip on Monday.

Hello All,  I have not been able to keep up with all of the posts, so I don't know if this has been  mentioned previously, but I had a question about tanning beds.  You mentioned saunas, so I was curious if we can lay in tanning beds with implants?  I like to go in the Spring to start a tan, so I don't get burnt in the sun.  Has anyone asked their doctor if this is safe?

Chocolate.  Easter.  This is the time of year when Elmer's gold-brick chocolate eggs with pecans, wrapped in gold foil, and Elmer's heavenly hash eggs, chocolate-covered marshmallow with almonds, wrapped in blue paper, appear in large quantities on the shelves at Walmart and every supermarket.  Elmer's is a local candy company here in the NO/Baton Rouge area.  The gold-brick and heavenly hash eggs are as much a tradition at Easter as dyed chicken eggs.  Always a big temptation, but THIS YEAR, to make matters worse, they're available in DARK CHOCOLATE.  How insidious of this company!  Yes, several boxes have made their way into my shopping basket.

Meg, very sad about your DH's relative who had just retired.  I hate those stories.  So unfortunate to work for years, retire, then die before you have time to enjoy some leisure.

Everything is good here.  I played golf 3 days in a row in the 54 holes tournament.  It's a ringer tournament and lots of fun.  Each day you can improve your score on holes you didn't play well the first day.  I had the biggest score of all the players the 1st day.  Before BC and Effexor, I'm sure I would have been embarrassed.  Nothing much bothers me now if it's not life-threatening.  I improved 30 strokes over the next two days and ended up 6 strokes under par.  Not a winning score but I didn't win the booby prize either.  Except for a brief rainy period on Thurs., we had wonderful weather and a delicious lunch on Fri.

Today DH and I are headed to the Fairgrounds for Louisiana Derby day.  After this weekend the track closes.  We're picking up my brother at a location he chose.  He has developed that fear of driving in traffic that many older folks develop.  I've always had it but DH grew up in the Chicago area and isn't afraid to drive anywhere.

NewBride and Shoshi, I'm thinking about you and wishing you well.

I'm reading a Janet Evanovich novel featuring her character Stephanie Plum, who's a bounty hunter on a small scale.  Stephanie picks up people who didn't show in court and takes them to jail.  This book is highly entertaining and funny and it makes me LOL.  I picked it up at GoodWill for 46 cents.  The title is Fearless Fourteen.  If you're looking for a light-hearted and entertaining read, I recommend all the Stephanie Plum stories.  They're available in hardback and audio at your public library.

    Happy weekend to all.

Good morning... a brief hello on the run.

Meg, so sad for your loss. 62 to me is still in the 'tragically young' category. It seems that we all have received a warning about our mortality. Live well, enjoy life my friends.

Chocolate! Surely one of the great pleasures in life. I will find a way to indulge a bit and keep the weight down in my own lazy way. The 2 pounds are gone again and have taken another with them.

A message from my DH. He says "Live long and prosper, happy Easter, good Pesach, come have a cup of coffee, it's ready"..... so I'd better sign off.

Carole,  I love the Stephanie Plum series!  I'm starting Fearless Fourteen today, what a coincidence.  Have you read the previous novels?  They are all funny!  Who do you like better, Morelli or Ranger?  I can't decide.  These books have helped me through a tough time in my life.  That sounds corny, but I needed a good escape at times, and they provided it.

Umm, Easter chocolate. I'm trying my best to avoid it all and save my calories for a piece of homebaked lemon cake on Easter Sunday. Carole, congrats on your improved golf scores. Sounds like you had fun. I never know what fiction book to pursue, so thanks for the recommendation. Maybe I'll pick up one at the library. And one more idea for the fiction book that you probably won't write...it needs an evil receptionist!

TNlady, I've never heard warnings against sun or tanning bed exposure for implants. I suppose if you are taking a particular medication there might be a precaution?

Fortunate1, There's nothing like having BC and turning 50 all in one year to convince you that life is too short. Unless it's turning 51 or ?...! Hope you have a great time at your convention.

I may put one more clear coat on the chairs for extra protection, but they are essentially finished. I've taken pictures, but I haven't been successful in posting them. What's the secret with this website? Any computer geniuses out there?

Just saw this post on one step implant with alloderm. I don't quite understand what that means..Are you talking about the Becker implant? How do you get the implant without getting an expander? And also, where within the breast is  the alloderm placed? Sorry about my lack of knowledge about this particular procedure..Would really like someone to explain this procedure to me since my PS has not mentioned anything about it. He just says we need to put an expander in first, that I will get a better result...Thanks ladies for any input..Hugs

Hi Joiedevivre, Immediate reconstruction is when your PS places implants (silicone or saline) at the same time as your MX. It is appropriate for women who want to be a size A or B and who are not extremely overweight. Alloderm (acellular tissue matrix) is used to create create an internal "sling" that helps keep the implant in place. The beauty of this procedure is that, as many of us have experienced, you go in to surgery with breasts and come out the same way. Other advantages are that there is only one surgery (unless you have revisions or nipple reconstruction), you avoid the hassle of "fills", there are fewer doctor visits and the healing period is about 8 weeks. As you might expect, having an implant placed directly under the muscle causes pain, so muscle relaxers and pain medication are necessary. Tissue expanders are the more common method of reconstruction, but immediate reconstruction with or without Alloderm is gaining in popularity. Hope this helps!

I'll work a little more at trying to post these pictures. Maybe today!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Okiegal: Thanks for the explanation.I am small and thin , almost 5' 3" 100 lbs.approx. I would like that procedure done without the alloderm, since the alloderm may be what caused my last infection. However, my other side is a 475cc. If I got that changed to a smaller one, I would have to get it taken out first, and wait till the skin shrinks back down, or else I would have ripples, which I would not like. So, I guess for me, the expander route is the best option. Thanks so much. Now, I understand. Hugs

Thanks so much, UpCreek and Bigapple. I was very happy with the finished results as was the designer who contracted them for her client. They were a lot of tedious work, but I'm pleased. They looked great sitting among the other antiques in her shop. They were inspired by a certain style of hand painted Italian furniture, I'm not sure which style.

Monday evening, I made the mistake of buying fresh oysters (Blue Point) from a local grocer instead of our local, (dependable) fish market. I didn't choose them myself and when I opened them at home, they smelled like a barnyard! I tried to shuck them anyway. I struggled and wrestled and managed to open four, but they weren't worth eating. Now, my pec muscles are really sore. This has me wondering....How are the rest of you feeling about your strength these days? Do you think you are back to your pre-surgery strength? I'm doing well with my upper body overall, but need to work on my pecs somehow. Maybe some push ups off of the counter.

It is a beautiful, if very windy day today. A predicted high of 82 degrees. I'm guessing those who live in nicer climates are outside, while those on the east coast are watching the water rise.

    Hello Everyone,

Okiegal, WOW! The chairs came out beautiful. I stand corrected...you're not Martha Steward...you're better!  She couldn't do that!

I don't feel the strength I had before bmx. Especially my pecs. I feel a pull anytime I lift something heavy. I hold back thinking I might hurt myself. I still have that strange pulling feeling when vacuuming, etc. but it is much better.

Wow, okie sounds like beautiful weather...go out and enjoy it!

UpCreek, How is your muscle feeling? Is the PT helping?

Big Apple and NewBride..thinking of you both. I guess Shoshi is feeling better.

Carole is probably on the golf course!

TNLady, I have not heard anything about tanning beds in regard to implants. I have fair skin and have been told not to use tanning beds because of the danger of skin cancer.

The last week has been a little hectic for me. My sister is going through a tough time and I have been spending time with her. My little dog has a liver problem and it is acting up again.  The good news is everyone here seem to be doing well...the rain is gone and no flooding or down trees this time! The sun is shinning and it is warming up outside. I hope you all enjoy your day.

Meg9:  The thickening in the pec is still there but it is not as uncomfortable.  Yes the PT is helping, tx for asking.  As far as strength--I have been doing pec stretches with a theraband.

Hope your little doggie is better.

Okiegal:  what is your next project.

Hi to all of you.  Sorry that I've been MIA.  I do keep up thru e-mail notifications. I have been spending lots of time on the chemo threads in preparation for my four rounds coming up.  And they start tomorrow at 11:00AM.  Something about starting chemo on April Fools' Day seems a little strange 'cause it's no joke.  I guess that's just how I roll.  Maybe I'll find something humorous about it before the day is over.  I know I'll look funny in my Penguin Cold Caps but that is OK with me.  They will probably save me from a bunch of other funny looking caps for a long time later.  I will certainly keep you posted.

okiegal, let me add my compliments on the chairs,  They are fantastic.  I really think you should send Brenda some pictures of your work.  Who knows?  Could end up being a paid trip back to the west coast for you every once in a while.

Meg, I think that it's great that you are sticking to your walking.  I have been so busy with all of this pre chemo stuff that I haven't had the time to get my walk in as often as I should.  Hopefully, once I get my routine down, I'll be able to schedule time.  Everybody that I have spoken to says that It is really helpful in minimizing the side effects that go along with chemo.  Walking is just good for you.  Period.  Besides, I may actually be fighting weight gain during chemo. Sounds weird, I know, but the steroids that I have to take can cause dramatic weight gain.  I may be looking forward to 20 extra lbs before I'm through so I'd better keep walking.

Bigapple,  I'm so pleased that you have a sugical plan worked out.  You have been so positive and patient through all of your setbacks.  I can't say I know how you feel but having to put off my symmetry surgery is just one more thing that bugs me at least a little all of the time.  I would just be nice not to have take into consideration whether I will be in a social situation where I will feel more comfortable if I put on a bra and "stuff" the small side with a mini form.  I will be cheering for you when you wake up and Dr. Israeli is telling you how well it all went.

ally, It sounds like you are doing well.  My return of sensation seems to have hit a plateau.  The only place I' really notice anything new is on the outside at about the 4 to 5 o'clock position.  I get an occasional hot shooting pain that seems similar to Fortunate1's.  Oh and now I get vague (annoying) itching on the skin there that I am chalking up to the little stretch marks that I have developed  It seems strange to have any sensation there at all as that area has the Alloderm.  I know that eventually our own tissue grows into the Alloderm.  I assume that means new blood vessels etc.  I wonder if new nerves can grow in over time too.  I guess we'll see.  The only other thing is that when I change the dressing on the nipple, the Hibiclens can sting a little sometimes.

I am now 10 weeks post-op and the nipple continues to heal slowly.  I do have some granular flesh along the incision line where the eschar occured but I am still pretty happy with the result of my nipple sparing.  My PS is now looking at doing a little symmetry surgery on my "good" nipple to make for a better match.  Are your nips still changing?

Carole,  I'm so glad that you are OK.   I guess injuries can happen if you are out there being active. I admire your stamina and your competetive spirit.  Just be a little careful.  OK?  We all worry enough about each other as it is.

And write the book.  I love a happy ending.

Fortunate1,  I totally get that love/hate thing with the OC.  Mine is a really nice guy and I want to just love him.  But as he "poisons" me every three weeks for the next couple of months I can see how I may find it hard to be nice to him.  On the other hand, I will ALWAYS be nice to the infusion nurses no matter what 'cause they are in  charge of  the needles (shudder).

I'll bet your conference was a blast.  I have a friend in Phoenix who may have attended the same conference.  Her studio is called Desert Dragon.  Mishy teaches too.   I think her latest works have been in a style called "Naked Sate(sp?).

upcreek, Shoshi, I_am OK,  I hope that you are doing well.  I will write more later but I'm running out of time for now.

Thank all of you for your continued prayers and good wishes.  They make such a difference for me.  I will continue to hold all of you in prayer also.

Well, wish me luck and minor side effects.  I'll try to post afterwards and tell you how I did.

NewBride, we'll be thinking of you today. April 1 was the date of my first biopsy a year ago. I figured, what the heck, it's just a number. Everything went smoothly for me, I hope the same for you.

Wendy, congrats on the surgery date! A nice light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks again, everyone, for the compliments. I don't have any other paying projects at this moment, but the same designer will have an upholstered valance that she wants stenciled. But one never really knows...the phone could ring today. Have a good one, everyone.

NewBride, thank you for taking the time to post.  I'll be thinking about you as you begin your treatment.  That's wonderful that your nipple-sparing surgery worked out so well for you.  It really is a great thing to retain the outer appearance of our breasts.

Okie, more compliments on your artistry.  Did you work from photographs of the genuine chair of that design?

Meg, I'm so happy that you're enjoying some warm spring weather.  I just hope our weather continues "springlike" and doesn't leap into summer.  The weather prophets are starting to mention 80 degrees in our forecasts.

Upcreek, I sent you a PM.  Could you elaborate on "pec stretches with an ultraband"?

BigApple, glad you have a firm surgery date.  You have been remarkably patient.

Hi to Fortunate, Year of the Hat, I am OK, Ally, and anyone else checking in from time to time.  I seem so busy lately that a day can go by without my getting to the computer.

    Wishing everyone a joyful evening.

BigApple:  It is great that you have a date.  You have been so positive throughout all of this.  I wish you well.

NewBride:  Thinking of you during this difficult time.  Please let us know how you are doing.

Carole:  Pec stretches--I'll try to explain it.  I use the green band and I think it is about 2 lbs resistance.  I lay on my back, wrap the bands around my hands fairly close together and pull slowly outwards about a foot and slowly go back towards chest.  I do that 10 times for 3 sets.  I also do push-ups against a counter.  I do biceps/triceps with free weights and have the same strength now that i had post-op.

Hi to all and hope everyone has a good Easter/Passover weekend.  Turkey on Sunday.

    Hello Everyone,

UpCreek, I was going to ask the same question...what exercises are you doing? How wonderful that you have the same strength you had before! Yesterday, I raked a small area in the yard and last night I felt pain in my pec muscle (left side).  I going to start push ups against the counter.

Carole, 80 degrees already! Daffodils and tulips are beginning to bud, as well as some trees. We usually have frost in April and sometimes in May. This warm weather is unusual for NY.

Do you get strange sensations when you play golf and tennis? I can't imagine playing tennis without the pec muscles twitching.

NewBride, You are in my thought and prayers. I hope your doing well. ((HUGS))

I am a major animal lover and I have been following this black bear @ bear.org. This bear gave birth to a cub in January. I saw it live through a live webcam they installed in her den. I've been watching this cub grow and two days ago Mom and cub left the den. The biologist, Dr. Lynn Rogers, they call him the Bear Walker of the Northwoods will be on Animal planet Sunday at 7:00 EST. He has studied black bears for 40 years and it is amazing how he interacts with them in the wild.

It is another beautiful day today. Sunny and in the 70's. I'm going out for a walk and then baking traditional Easter pies. I hope you all have a great weekend. Happy Passover/Easter to all who celebrate!

    Hi everyone!!

Ok now that i PM everyone i hope, i can update pubically!!! i am better then i was a month ago thanks to time, going back to work & mainly medication. I am seeing a great Pain dr & he really understands my pain ....he is giving me stronger medication & is very kind. I wish more women that had pain like i do can see someone like him.  He doesnt ask for urine tests (even though i'd have no problems w/ that) he doesnt want to subject me to 20 million tests which most of them want to...i am very lucky.

now that things r calmer, i can expalin more abt my pain. 1rst the left side shifted a lot..we dont understand why, but supposedly it is not a big deal to fix. If it wasnt for all the problems i ahve had it would of been fixed a while ago.  My cleavage area is a BIG space ...& the BS took all my breast tissue out ( i guess u have breast tissue there too) & now i have skin rubbing against bone & this appears (which i have complained abt since day 1) to be my issues. So when i have my revison surgery my dr is going to get fat cells from my belly using a small needle & insert it into that area.  he can even do this in the office, but he feels since he is going to over fill me in the begining, it will be best to dot hsi when we have the revison surgery. Many times he usues this for more cosmetic purposes then for medical purposes.  He tried to make me feel good by telling me if this works, he is going to write up an article abt this & have it published.  Hey if this helps me, maybe it can help other women too. My implants itself dont hurt.  i do have some swelling ont he rt side, but that is more from my shoulder blade when it acts up , it effrects my breast. When i tried PT for my shoulder blade, it made my breast unbearable & i had to take my medicine every 4 hrs!! i was seeing stars.

I am back to work f/t b/c emotionally its the best, physcially it is very hard!!! Now my boss has increased my hrs 3 days a week for a 1/2 hr b/c we have more kids in the after school program. 1rst i am the only head teacher that has to work the after school program & 2nd she doesnt understand as the day goes on it gets harder & harder...many ppl think that b/c ur back to wk, ur fine...i am far from fine.my boss said come in a 1/2 mhr later & that doesnt work either, b/c earlier in the day its easier, as the day goes on it gets harder. I wish ppl would understand this..& then i getthrown in my face that i got pd through out my time off. I am thankful for that...but i didnt ask to be pd & that was ur nice choice to pay me, but DONT throw it in my face!!! I hate a "gift horse gift"...

i started to wear a bra for a short period of time & was so happy to take it off too!! But when i have nmy revison surgery i have to wear support, so i am trying to get used to wearing 1.  I am a "B" cup now, so i was happy abt that.  wheni look down @ my fett i c my feet!!! I know so many woman want to be bigger..i never wanted to..i always wanted to be small. I ahvent been a "B" since elementary school!!! lol

so this is my news...i will have to find that author u ladies were talking abt..i love reading. I also just posted on FB, that r these new e-readers gtoing to take over books? As much as i like the idea of them, its easier int he car & when u travel to have 1, but i love books!!!   i should be a librairian, but the job would be of mine...so slow for me!!! lol

Hope everyone is enjoying their holidays (if u celebrate holidays) ..this is another pet peeve of mine..that in stores & even dr's why do they automatically wish u a happy easter? Many ppl dont celebrate Easter...how abt have a nice day or good wkend..leave out the holidays ...or just say happy holidays!!lol

    take care all!! hugs!!

    Hello Everyone,

Tinkerbell,  Happy to hear you are doing better and that your pain doctor has been able to give you some relief. Hopefully you will soon be pain free.

NewBride, you're in my thoughts and prayers....I hope your feeling OK. How did you make out with the cold caps? I admire your positive attitude.  ((HUGS))

I was wondering...As time goes on and our breasts have settled...has anyone experienced their breasts dropping and moving to the outside a little....leaving a wider cleavage?  Of course, right after bmx my breasts were higher and facing front. They have dropped and moved to the sides some.  I was wondering if others have experienced the down and out movement.  Many women say they don't need to wear a bra anymore. I need to wear a bra as I did before bmx to get that up and front look.

On Saturday DH and I went to Bear Mountain State Park and walked 5 miles...3 miles around the lake and then across the park to the museum and a small zoo of  animals that have been hurt and rescued.

It's another beautiful day today. I better go take my walk and work off all I ate yesterday! YUM! I had a slice of black forest cake and chocolate covered strawberries!

I hope everyone has a great Monday!

    Good morning everyone, I'm back.

I had a wonderful time... Philadelphia never bores me and it's better than ever. There's many more people out and about at night, and the shadier areas are now lively with young people dining and enjoying being young and beautiful. The trees were in full bloom.

The conference was good and the city full of ceramic exhibits was even better. My friend and I walked and walked to the point of exhaustion and then I would point her towards a favorite restaurant and have a fine dinner. An old favorite oyster place was the biggest hit, and we ate oysters on the half shell, oysters fried southern style, smoked trout salad, and steamed mussels, and of course good wine. Life is very good. I came home exhausted, with more new tools, pots and literature and images than really necessary... and bought an extravagant ($$$) piece of machinery that will help me recycle clay more efficiently while sparing my irritable pec muscle.

NewBride, I bet Mishy did go to NCECA last year.... it was in Phoenix! Is her work Naked Raku? I hope your first chemo wasn't too scary and that you're resting comfortably. Big warm hug.

After rather nice weather in Philly, it's raining in sunny San Diego. You may have heard about the earthquake here yesterday... really big and certainly way more alarming than our usual small ones. But there is evidently not as much damage as one would expect for the size.

Okiegal, the chairs are gorgeous! Great to have a surgery date Bigapple, you're amazing. Upcreek, Meg, Tinkerbell, Carole, ally, big hugs to you all. I'm glad to be home.

    Hi all,

Tinkerbell, I'm relieved to hear you are doing better. It sounds like you've finally found someone to address your various issues. As to "bra pain", I wore an underwire to Easter Services yesterday AM. Couldn't wait to get home and take it off! I think the band size is too small. It feels okay when I first put it on, but the pressure of the bra against the implants is uncomfortable after a while. I think it makes the implants press on nerves or something. I usually wear very comfortable cotton bras. I'm going to purchase or sew a bra extender and see if that helps. Perhaps, Tinkerbell, the same might help you?

Fortunate1, sounds like such a lovely trip! Thanks for sharing. I hope you have all of your various ceramic creations safely secured. Earthquakes must take on an entirely different meaning when your creations are breakable! Here's hoping that the shaking doesn't get any worse.

Meg, compared to photos just after surgery, my breasts look like they are farther apart. I think part of it is attributable to reduced swelling and the rest to settling. Before BMX, I was worried about looking significantly different. For example, I didn't want breast that were smaller in circumference or too close together. My family members seemed anxious that I would look like Dolly Parton. I'm not unhappy with my positioning, in fact, I think my PS did a good job of recreating the "old me". I'm a little bit larger (B cup) and definately not as saggy!

Here's hoping NewBride is doing well today!

Hi to everyone.  So far side effects of my chemo seem to be minimal.  I'm just really tired and I can feel the "chemo brain" starting to come on.  It makes it harder for me to concentrate.  Really annoying while I'm trying to read.  I'm sure it will take longer for me to post too.  Lots of typos to edit.  Thanks for your continued prayers and good wishes.  I know they are working for me.

Fortunate1,  Yes, it IS naked raku that Mishy works in.  I can't even blame that on chemo brain.  I always get it wrong.  She also does some very cool stuff with glazed pieces and teaches a bunch of students at her home studio.  Your conference sounds awesome.  The east coast seems to be the place to be right now for weather and good times.  It snowed overnite here again so I'm spending the day curled up by the wood stove.

Tink,  It sounds like you have a handle on resolving your pain and revision stuff. It's just such a drag that all of this takes so long.  I may be up for some fat injection too.  Eventually.

Meg,  My recon breast is moving down and outward a little.  I never did have any actual cleavage but I understand what you are talking about with the wider space between.  I think that once I have my symmetry surgery, if I can get them both to look like that It might be OK.  It seems to add a little more "hourglass" to my figure so I think I'm OK with it.  PS may still want to do fat injections tho.  We'll see.

The cold caps were OK.  Very labor intensive but not too uncomfortable.  Hard to believe if you could see all of the frost on them.  I just hope they work for me.  I won't know for about another 10 days or so.  The suspense is killing me.  Most women do well with them so I'm hopeful.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Falling asleep at the computer is a good sign that it is time for a nap.  I think I'll have one.  Back later.  Bye for now

hello everyone.....glad you are feeling better tinkerbell.....sounds like the pain doc is really helping...new bride....i'm keeping my fingers crossed regarding the cod caps.....if it works, all the intense labor will be worth it......glad you are doing well...nap away.....meg....i know what you mean about them moving outwards....my ps told me when i massage to push them together, and not push them outward....okie, i haven't attempted underwire yet, i love these bras called "barely there", they are very light, soft, and give a good shape...i'll probably try underwire in a few months....fortunate, sounds like you made the most out of your time during the convention......bye
