    Hi all,

BigApple, it's nice to know you are still around. How are you doing? Have you had your surgery?

Hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day. Our brunch turned out great, but it was a ton of work. Somehow, we ended up doing all of the cooking and cleaning on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I was exhausted Sunday evening and yesterday. We wrote some reminder notes for keeping it simpler next time. The Martha Stewart impulse can really get out of control!

The fireplace looks great. I didn't tell my family (except my mom) that I was painting it. I wanted to see who would notice first on Sunday. My youngest brother showed up last and noticed first! You can see the pictures here. It's such a dramatic difference, but the pictures only tell part of the story. It was a massive foreboding, brownish, gray, mass. Now it it almost sparkles. I still have a little bit of caulking to do at the top and bottom. It was three days of work. I seem start and not stop with these types of painting projects which makes them very exhausting, but I survived without any pain issues. For the most part, I felt like my old self....my older self!

Hope everyone's week is off to a good start. We had tornados across the state yesterday eveing, but fortunately, they skipped our area. We are in for another round on Wednesday evening.

Hope you all have a good day!

Okiegal, that is just gorgeous! Everyone should have a faux finish expert around the house. I never truly realized that painted stone could look like anything but gooey and tragically "painted". Your skill is amazing, you have transformed the room.... and it is just gorgeous!

Your Mother's Day brunch and Carole's (yumm!) sound like a great successes. We also spent a lot of time catching up on cleaning before our family arrived. I was amazed at the size of the dust bunnies, and the piles of accumulated mail. A bit of cleaning and a huge bouquet of roses from the garden did the trick. Not to mention that most of the food was brought in.

The follow up to my Mother's Day is pretty good. As of yesterday my MIL is in a beautiful facility. I haven't seen it yet, but the family has each said, "I wish I could live there." A message from my FIL this morning moved me to tears, and I know that all is as good as it can be.

I am ready for this semester to be over.

Hope you are all having a fine day. Hi Bigapple. Hugs, and no tornados.

    Hello Everyone,

Okiegal, I saw the news reports and was worried about you. What a relief to see your post and that you are fine. I hope the next round of storms are not damaging.

Your fireplace looks absolutely beautiful...what a transformation! I can see that it was a lot of work. You need your own show on HGTV!

I am happy to hear that you're feeling like your old self. We are both reaching the one year mark. I'm not complaining, but I do not feel like my old self. These foobs are always twitching or popping or something. We had a frost the past two nights and I had to carry in my flower pots...some are large and very heavy. DH helped me carry the heavy pots, but the foobs where straining! I still can't get comfortable sleeping and I am surprised on how they are sagging. I didn't expect sagging! I think I'm in the stage that yearofthehat was.

Wendy, Good to hear from you. Your surgery is in May? Good luck! Let us know how you are. I will be thinking of you.

Ally, Good to hear from you too. You sound like you're getting to the new normal!

Fortunate1, Happy to hear you had a good Mother's Days and that your MIL is in a good facility. That will be a comfort to your family.

Thinking of NewBride and everyone else!

I hope you all have a great day!

    Hello Everyone,

I have not been here for a while and glad to know everyone is doing well.

Yesterday I had stitches removed from recons nipple. Everything looks great, nipple is pink, size and position are good, though there is not so much projection as on the "good" side, but in clothes I look fine even if I am braless.  Nurse in PS office told me  not to apply any creame or vaseline on nipple-areola area and to wait for 3-4 weeks, so I scheduled appt for tattoo in a month. I had appt with Oncologist today. Nothing new, except she told me that my BS is pregnant and will be on maternity leave since July for three months. She is 40 and I guess this is her first child, I am so happy for her.

I wish you all the best!!!

    Take care!

    HI all,

I'm blushing, you are all so wonderfully complimentary! Thank you.

Meg, it sounds like you could use a second opinion even if you don't decide to do anything. Also, I've found that my weight lifting has really helped me get passed all of the weird physical, implant sensations and my strength is back to normal. Keep lifting those weights. I know you will get better. Unlike the relationship between dieting and weight loss, regular weight lifting WILL produce results. You can count on it. Keep it up!

Fortunate1, it's reassuring to hear that your MIL has enviable accommodations.

I_AM_OK, I had the same instructions for nothing on the nipple reconstruction. It needs to breath. Nice to hear that you are healing well.

Hope you all have a nice day!

Hi Tinkerbell.  She can post in Stage 4 but she is welcome here too!

Hi to all.  Have been reading your posts but just having quiet days.  Going to Minneapolis this weekend to help shop for my niece's wedding dress.  Should be fun.

Had my mother for supper on Mother's Day.  She is 83.  She has a lump in her neck and is waiting to see a surgeon.

Say a prayer for a friend of mine who had DIEP on Tuesday.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    Hello Everyone,

IamOK, I'm happy to hear your nipple is healing well and you are happy with the outcome!  I guess you're finished!? Smile

Okiegal, My right breast feels normal at times...it is my left breast that is and has been a problem. Both PS and BS had no answer. I will continue to walk and lift weights. My chiropractor/friend gave me a couple of exercises to do with elastic bands. I am finding them to be helpful...the tremble I was feeling in my left arm is much better. I am disappointed with extra skin "dog ears" that I have on both breasts. Have your breast changed any?

UpCreek, Good to hear from you. Enjoy your shopping trip...sounds like fun to me! I hope your feeling well...Your friend is in my prayers.

Tinkerbel, I'm glad your feeling better....Good luck with your revision surgery.  There are many forums for stage 4 ladies on here who offer great support to each other.

Hello to everyone else...thinking of NewBride and Wendy...I hope everyone has a good weekend! Smile

Hi Tinkerbell, It's good to hear from you. Hope your revision goes perfectly and that you'll be happy with the results. Is your pain level down? I agree about Ter. She is welcome here, and she will likely find more answers from the stage 4 threads.

Meg, I had a dog ear fixed, and I'm glad I did. The curve is still a little squared off where it was, but no ugly little point. Funny, the ugly little point would have been a beautiful breast tip if it had been two inches over!

Upcreek, wedding dress shopping sounds like a lot of fun to me. Prayers for your Mom and friend.

    Have a good day everyone.

Hi, everyone.  We're busy people in our everyday lives, so there isn't a lot of reading when I check in after a few days.  I'm doing fine with only a minor complaint.  Something is going on with my right shoulder.  Twinges and signals that there might be something amiss with the arm joint or muscles.  Guess I should get an x-ray.  I've eased off the weight workouts with hand weights and have been taking prescription strength ibuprofen.

This was a good week.  I played a 2-day women's golf tournament on Tues. & Wed.  Attended a bridge lesson yesterday with a group of beginners.  It's duplicate bridge, where all the tables eventually play the same hands.  Interesting to play with other people instead of with myself!  I've started playing online with robots.  I'm following the usual pattern of becoming obsessed with an interest.  Over the years, gardening, stained glass, pottery, golf, now bridge.  Meanwhile I hope the housecleaning inspection folks don't show up at my house.

Today I'm off to Tylertown, MS, to take my mother to visit her cousin Marie, who is also in her 80's.  She lives with her daughter.  It will be a drive of over an hour.  My mother has very few living relatives at this point or at least relatives of her own generation.

Tinkerbell, good to hear from you.  Also, Upcreek.  What fun to shop for a wedding dress when you don't have to pay for it!  Meg, I would get those dogears fixed if I were you.  Hard to believe that I'm getting closer every day to the anniversary of my dx.  It's all seeming like a longago experience shrouded in time.

Hope everyone has a good Saturday.

No posts to read except my own!  Yesterday's trip to MS went well except a rain cloud followed us around.  Today the rain reached us, and it was much needed.  My plants and shrubs look very happy.

Tomorrow DH and I are headed to Greenville, MS, for a week-long golf event.  We'll be staying in an rv park that doesn't have internet so I'll be out of touch for a few days.  Hope everyone has a good week.

    Hi everyone,

Tinkerbell, congrats on the upcoming revision. I think it's normal to need a little tweaking. Like Fortunate1, I have very small corners at the end of each incision. I wondered if my PS sutured from left to right and if they are the "end of the seam"....why couldn't they end them so that the "point" is in the middle? Seems like that would work out just right, don't you think? Wish it was all so easy.

Meg9, I would say that since my nipple reconstruction and scar revision healed, I'm about the same. I don't feel that anything has sagged much. The nipples continue to shrink, however. I'm glad that your elastic bands are helping with your tremble. I really feel like the exercises that I've been doing have helped tremendously. We'll have to keep it up! Carole, sorry to hear you are having shoulder pain. That's another reason I started weight lifting. My shoulder was hurting for no reason. It was uncomfortable to sleep on that side. The exercising has helped me. Specifically, rotator cuff exercises. But, as everyone always says, don't exercise if it hurts! I hope your problems are something that won't interfere with your golf game!

I had a busy week and weekend shopping for an outfit to wear to my nephew's wedding. My sister and I finally pulled it all together and enjoyed a lovely, Sunday afternoon ceremony and reception. It turned out to be a beautiful Spring day.

Tulsa had several, very small, tornadoes last Thursday morning, about 3AM. I slept, unharmed, through the tornado sirens! And I describe myself as a light sleeper!?! Hmmm.

Hope everyones week is off to a good start!

Okiegal, yes about the incisions. It's been on my mind lately. My dog ear would have been a nice little breast tip. My PS wanted to put my incision from nipple down like a breast lift. Wouldn't that leave a dog ear at the missing nipple area? I guess the breast surgeon objected as I ended up with the straight across with dog ear incision. Carole had an  incision from the nipple out to the side. We'll have to ask her when she gets back. How come a nipple shrinks and a dog ear so stubbornly stays?

The shopping with a wedding at the end sounds like a great weekend! Today I have a special day... Dad's 90th birthday. We're having a very small gathering. He has requested KFC chicken wings...(ick!), and I'm making a rhubarb pie.

Last night was the final for one of my classes. We had a potluck, some late reports given, and I got lots of thank you - see you next semester - praises. I felt very appeciated.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

Carole:  With all your golfing--it's no wonder your shoulder is sore!  Maybe it needs a rest?  Glad you are enjoying bridge.  My mom loved bridge and I have a book on how to play but haven't cracked the cover yet!  Have fun on your trip.

Meg:  I agree that exercise improves our healing.  I don't have any dog ears--just scars.

Okiegal:  Good to hear someone is sleeping....

Fortunate1:  I'm sure you deserve your student's praises!

Wedding dress shopping was fun.  Five of us went.  My niece (the bride), a friend of hers, myself, her mother and another aunt.  If you have seen "say yes to the dress" then you can picture what our day was like.  The second dress was the keeper and very beautiful.  i didn't know they made so many different dresses!  I did pay for half of it as she is very close and dear to me.  She was there for me after surgery and of all the people around me I chose her to be the one I called when I needed HELP!

Beautiful here today.  27 degrees Celsius.

Hi to everyone else:  I am ok, Ally, Tinkerbell, Bigapple and anyone I missed.

    Hello Everyone,

Fortunate1, when did you have your dog ear fixed? The NP at my ex PS office said I would probably need a drain again...that's all I had to hear!...no thank you!

Happy Birthday to your dad! I'm happy your school year ended on a positive note!

Carole, I hope you're enjoying your trip and feeling no pain!

Okiegal, Congratulations on your nephews wedding!

I agree exercise helps in many ways!  Today, I did not feel the tremble in my left arm at all!...progress! I really think the elastic bands are helping.

UpCreek, Your shopping trip sounds like fun...good memories for all!

My DH has been on a business trip to Chicago for the past few days. He will be returning tomorrow.  I weighed in at WW last Saturday and I lost an additional 1.2lbs!  I also tried palates again and my back is hurting. I'm sticking to my own workout from now on!

I hope everyone is doing well. Smile

Hi Again, i have been reading your posts & my incison was straight down from nipple to bottom of breast & then under the breast..not sure if this help, but i have been reading abt where others incisons r...they did this b/c my scar from my breast reduction...

AW, i have a few questions...i have what i call an "air bubble" on the bottom of my rt foob...when i went to the dr a while ago he said he was from the allorderm & it will go away..it hasnt..anyone else have that?

I am also experiencing swelling on the top part of rt foob...not major, but enuf that it bothers me & hurts at times..when the weather is bad its worse of course..anyone else have sweeling months later & on the top is where the muscle is?????

U lovely ladies also have talked abt massaging & stretching..how do u do these things..My ps never showed me...he talked in the begining abt massage, but i guess w/ all my problems, we never did do that...

I hope eveybody is doing well....thx!!!

Hiya Tink! With the reduction type incision did you end up with a more natural, pointed shape? I have the feeling that the answer is no. It would be too simple. I don't have swelling at the top, but it gets sore when I use it a lot. The muscle gets achey but is still usable. I know I should stretch the shoulder more, but I don't until the muscle tightens up. The massage my PS showed me was kind of shocking. He squeezed the breast really hard and the implant moved quite a bit. It seems as though it should hurt but it doesn't really, just a lot of pressure. The breast and implant are soft. I do it now and then.

Upcreek, I have watched "say yes to the dress" and it sounds so fun.

Meg, I had the dog ear fixed when the nipple was done. It is no longer a little corner but is still a sightly squared spot. I did not need a drain. The dog ear was pretty small, an ugly little point. Hey, congratulations on the 1.2 pounds!

Dad's party went well. It was very short, he had a good time and got very tired very early. He is so dear.

    Good night all.

Meg9, so happy for you on so many fronts....lost 1.2 lbs and your band exercises are working! Excellent!

I also had my dog ears fixed when I had nipple reconstruction. Like Fortunate1, I didn't need a drain. I would think you would have to have a huge dog ear or large fold of skin for a drain. I'm still voting for a second opinion on everything!

Fortunate1, I'm glad your dad's b.d. went well. How rewarding to have such praise at the potluck. I'm sure you deserved it!

Tinkerbell, the nurse instructed me to sort of knead the breast in a spiral pattern moving from the center toward the outside edge. The second action was a gentle pinching and pushing of the implant in various directions to stretch the pocket. I kept this up for months. I don't do it now as I thought it might be contributing to my stinging sensations. All of the massaging is intended to prevent capsular contracture. I think there is debate as to whether it is effective. Also, with your pain issues, I'm guessing your doctor decided to skip those instructions. I don't have any swelling at the top of my breasts, but I feel like I experience a sense of fullness in my armpit. I haven't been officially diagnosed with lymphadema, but I'm guessing that's the appropriate term. Mine is a result of exertion/exercise. I haven't noticed whether it's related to the weather.

Speaking of weather, UpCreek, glad to know yours is nice. We are experiencing our typical stormy spring weather. I think we may have thunderstorms today. Hopefully, nothing worse.

Carole, hope you are having a nice trip.

    Have a good day, all.

Hey, everyone's off somewhere, doing fun stuff I hope. I'm up to my eyeballs in work and am still managing to procrastinate. A good friend is having her reconstruction surgery tomorrow and we've been talking about it. No one else wants to hear about all this, we have to stick together. Well, that's not the procrastination part, it's what friends do. So I'd better get back to work. Good night all.

Gorgeous day here, by the way. My bougainvillea fuchsia cloud is back. The boysenberries are starting to ripen and we're eating the last of the oranges. The lawn is dying, wish it would die completely.

    Hello everybody,

Tinkerbel, I did not have an air bubble. I had swelling for a long time. I was swollen on my sides (left side mostly) under my armpits from the beginning and for months after. It was also sensitive to touch. I think some of this pain was from the drains.

I do not massage regularly. I was told to lift up and side to side. Good luck on your revision surgery. I hope you will feel better and be happier with the outcome.

Fortunate1, My dog ear is more like a bulge popping out on the outer side of the scar. It's extra skin. I think it will not be so easily fixed.

Glad your dad had a Happy Birthday. I hope you friend is dong well.

Okiegal, I agree with you...I should go for a second opinion. I'm giving it careful consideration. I so wished that this would have been over after all this time. It would be beneficial to have the blob fixed before I had my nipple tattoos. Considering what other go through I really consider myself fortunate.

Today, I went to my chiropractor. I have been apprehensive to have her adjust the chest muscles because of the alloderm. She did some research and tried something different today...I think it helped!  The poking is not as prominent! I have an appointment in 3 weeks which will allow time to see if it lasts.  Keeping my fingers crossed!

It was a beautiful day. Sunny and in the 80's.

I hope everyone has a good weekend! Smile

Hi, everyone.  I just caught up on the posts I missed during my absence.  Glad there are no serious problems and everyone who checked in is doing well.  After I logged in, I noticed a new thread in the active list about LE with SNB.  I read all the posts.  Now I'll have to do some research on LE.  I haven't had any alarming swelling in my SNB arm, but my fingers on the right hand have gotten larger.  Lately I've taken several rings to have them made larger.  Some additional lbs. of weight and fluid retention from Arimidex could be factors.  The consensus of those posting on that thread is that not enough is known about the LE risk of SNB.

Meg, congrats on your weight loss.  I was doing okay this week until yesterday.  The ladies lunch turned out not to be the typical scoop of chicken salad in a tomato shell with fruit and melon on the side and lots of plate showing.  It was the Greenville CC's Friday buffet, which was bountiful with selections like MS fried catfish and fried shrimp.  There was also baked fish, but I passed it by with barely a glance.  Dessert was homemade blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream (scoop your own) or bananas foster with ice cream.  I took small servings of almost everything, including some delicious veggies like lima beans and turnip greens, and ended up with no room on the plate.  I told myself, No dinner for you tonight.  Famous last words.  DH and I ordered a pizza after we'd arrived home too tired to go and get take-out food.  Pizza is about the only food choice for delivery in this area.

The golfing event in Greenville, MS, was fun, but the weather didn't fully cooperate.  The ladies golf tournament was on Thurs. and I was quite wet from intermittent blustery rain by the time we finished.  We kept straining our ears for the sound of the horn calling everyone in, but it didn't blow until we were finally inside and downing cups of hot coffee to warm up.  I won low net, which is your score minus your handicap points.  I would much rather have won low gross.

Greenville is in the Mississippi delta, on the shore of the MS river.  You can't imagine land that flat.  Driving along the highways, you can see for miles.  There are some lovely old homes in Greenville, but the downtown is a sad sight with empty stores.  The main shopping is in malls.  There are several casinos.  We went to one for a couple of hours during a free afternoon, and most of the people didn't look like they could afford to gamble with their money.  MS is suffering from the recession.

About dog-ears, my incisions are perfectly flat at either end.  By now, they're faint pink lines.  There is a little lumpiness on the top of the right breast, and I still have the little divot (sunken spot) on the left cleavage.  With an uplift bra, the divot would disappear, but I don't wear low-cut blouses that expose cleavage.  There's still a "tightness," but I've become completely accustomed to it.  I no longer scrutinize my chest but catch glimpses in the bathroom mirror when I'm towelling off.   My PS is right in his opinion that my figure could be improved with larger implants but it's highly unlikely that I will elect more surgery that would be entirely cosmetic.

Now I must get busy with unloading the rv and doing some laundry.  It's good to be back home and back in touch with my bc friends.  Have a great Saturday.

Wow things move fast here. I left on 5/11 to chair a conference in Orlando through the 16th and have my surgery scheduled for Monday morning. I feel like my head is just swimming along, I think I have entered that pre-surgery sub-cutaneous freak out stage, but there is no where to go but forward. Its going to be nice to have two breasts again, I am hoping the DIEP side will at least look like the gummie one step side. If I can ask everyone to keep their fingers crossed, please.

Hi to all of you.  Just a quick update.  Chemo is going well.  I have my last infusion on June 3rd.  Had a consultation with a radiation oncologist to discusss radiating the nodes in my armpit being as we don't know my node status.  He feels that as small as my tumor was, the chance of positive nodes is remote so I get to pass on rads.  Yay!  And yes, the Penguin Cold Caps are working.  I still have a full head of hair.  My doctors are astounded.

I see  my PS on Wed. and we get to discuss my revision surgery.  I have a feeling he has big plans for me.  I'll post as soon as I get back.

Finally,  I have booked my first gig post chemo.  I will be doing wardrobe for Lenny Kravitz on Jun. 9th.  It's going to be so good to get back to work again.  I'm so tired of sitting around on my behind.

Bigapple,  I'll keep you in my prayers as you head for surgery.  You have a great surgeon so all should be well.  I'll probably be right behind you.  Surgery is scary but this time I can't wait to get it over with.

That's about all for now.  I'm glad that everyone is doing well.  I'll post after my PS appt. and let you all know what the next chapter is for me.  Bye for now

BigApple and NewBride, it's great to hear from you!  Bigapple, you'll be in my thoughts tomorrow.  I hope everything goes really well with your surgery.  Newbride, how wonderful that the cold caps worked and your hair didn't fall out!!  I still don't know what cold caps are, but I'll be passing along your experience.  I'm glad the chemo is over and you can get back to new normal.

    Happy Sunday.

Big Apple:  Good luck on your surgery.  We will all be thinking of you.  Is it tomorrow?

New Bride:  Glad to hear your chemo is coming to an end.  Doing wardrobe for Lenny Kravitz sounds like fun.

Carole:  Tx for sharing your dining experiences with us.  It's always nice to hear what people are eating in other areas.

We had chicken tonight, salad and potatoes.  Nothing too exciting but was tasty after helping my DH erect a shed in the backyard.  It was suppose to take four hours and it's been two days now.

Hoping to finish up tomorrow (it's a long weekend here), and go to the cottage to get the water in.

    Hi to everyone!

    Hi all,

BigApple, I'm thinkin' and prayin' for you this morning....and fingers crossed. Hope you have great results. NewBride, thanks for checking in. It's great to hear that you still have your hair. That makes all of the hard work involved with the cold caps worth it. Congratulations on your newest show, sounds wonderful to get back to work.

An unseasonably, hot weekend here. It was up in the high 80's yesterday. I created a trellis on which to grow some cantaloupe. My sister will turn me into a gardener yet! UpCreek, my family and I can identify with your "shed" travail. We regularly remind ourselves of the many times we've said we would "just" do this or that. It's never that simple. "I'll just....."!

Fortunate1, I'm jealous of your bouganvilla cloud, it's one of my favorite plants. So grand and boisterous! But I have my own "cloudlet" that is blooming again after surviving the winter inside.

Tried on some new bras at Walmart this weekend....no success. I wish I was a bra manufacturer, I'd design some with my nippleless self in mind.

Hope everyone has a great day.
