Just a quick hello. I'm sick... again!... and falling behind. I am so glad to hear from Bigapple, who must have a new breast by now. Fingers crossed! And Newbride, who still has her hair, that is amazing! Well actually I'm glad to read posts from all of you. Big hugs... back soon.

Fortunate, sorry to hear you're ill.  Bummer.  Bigapple, how are you doing?  Same question to Newbride.

I played golf today and had lunch afterwards at the club.  It was very hot, but bearable with a little breeze.  Yesterday morning I worked in the yard and must have been bitten by a spider.  My right forearm has a red area, in the same vicinity of two places where the dermatologist burned off little precancerous growths on Monday.  I must brag on my yard.  It's very pretty.  The daylillies (two l's or 1 l?) are lovely.  I'll have to post some pics when I figure out how to do it.  I had my camera in my pocket as I worked outside and took pictures.  I have one exotic variety of lily that's yellow and purple.  Very showy.

Hi to everyone and hope you're having a good week.

Hi Carole, I'm much better today. And hard at work. I really should figure out how to do the photos again. I know that they have to be on the web before you can post them, picasa, flicker and the like, but I'm such a fool with that stuff. I could show you pots, and garden successes. I should plant daylillies somewhere, they grow well here. And, yellow and purple would fit right in. You can't be subtle with a huge bouganvillea and a small yard, no way. Hope the spider bite heals soon, they hurt!

Thinking good thoughts for Bigapple. And congratulations on being back at work Newbride, it sounds exciting. Good evening all.

    Hello everyone,

My computer crashed...couldn't even get it started, but I back in business!

New Bride, I'm so happy for you...your cold caps worked and chemo is almost finished! Like fortunate1said soon you will be a your new normal! Please keep us posted on your progress.

BigApple, You are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope we hear from you soon.

Carole, Your garden sounds beautiful.  My flower pots turned out well this year. Bursts of color everywhere. My day lilies have not bloomed yet, but I notice buds this morning. My columbines are beautiful shades of purple.

Yikes, bitten by a spider! I recently heard a disturbing story on the news about a woman from Georgia who was bitten on her breast by a spider.  The bite got infected and she had a mastectomy. Freaky incident I'm sure, but I will forever be afraid of spiders.

Fortunate1, I'm glad you're feeling better. I remember the picture you posted of your bougainvillea...it was beautiful.

Okiegal, I see the Martha in you is working...you created a trellis!... Growing cantaloupe! Wow! I went to the nursery this weekend and planted zucchini, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.  I don't think I have ever seen a cantaloupe plant!

UpCreek, I hope your shed is complete and you have an enjoyable holiday weekend!

My DH is taking tomorrow off to make a longer Memorial Day weekend. It was the day after Memorial Day last year that I had my bmx. I am grateful that I had all of you this past year to share this time with. I can't imagine what it would have been like if I didn't. Thank you!

If the weather cooperates, we will have a bar-b-cue. I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend!

    Hi all,

Glad everyone is enjoying Spring now and beautiful garden flowers and plants. Meg9, I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary tomorrow. Actually, I had surgery on Friday which is today, but tomorrow is the actual date. I had a goofy "pre-op" dream this morning. I guess my brain wanted to be prepared!? This year has passed quickly and certainly a lot more easily with all of you to chat with. Thanks from me too!

Hope everyone has an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend!

Congratulations on the one year anniversary you two. It's an odd feeling don't you think? Remembering bad stuff, relief, and a return to the new normal that gets closer and closer to actual normal sometimes. Sometimes I can't believe it happened, but there's the undeniable proof in the mirror.

Well I'd have you all over for a ladies luncheon if we could do it. So as an alternative let's have coffee and cookies on a sunny veranda overlooking vineyards in Lucca, Italy. Later today we'll take the train into Florence to see the David. Sound good?

I agree, it would have been so much harder without all of you. Have a marvelous weekend everyone. Who will have the next one year anniversary?

Fortunate1:  I'm all aboard on the train to Florence!  Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Okiegal and Meg:  Congrats on your anniversary.  How do your scars look?  Does the redness subside?

Carole:  I can't help but think about the oil spill and what we are doiing to our own planet.  Can we not do without the oil in the ocean bed?

Ally:  Where are you?  Is everything okay?

The four hour turned into 40 hour shed is done.  Just a few finishing touches.  Going on a Field Trip this morning to pick wild morels.  Hope to go to the cottage after that to plant the vegetable garden and get the water in.

Hope everyone else is well!  Have a great weekend.

    Hi:

Thank you all for the good thoughts.

I'm home from the hospital, so far it looks like everything is working and the PS now thinks the volume may be good enough that no implant is needed under the flap, but we will see.

I'm sore and bored and have the attention span of  single celled organisim.

If I could only get rid of the gas in my tummy I'd be thrilled.

Bigapple, So glad you're home. And very very glad that it looks like everything is working. The attention span comment brings up memories. I camped out on the couch with a huge comforter. A TV nearby that I never turned on, music nearby... never turned on, stack-o-magazines... never read. The only thing that interested me was a friend that came to stay with me. We talked for hours, between naps. Who knows what I said, but it was such a comfort. Hope you feel better soon!

Upcreek, I'm envious about the morel hunt, yum. No house project ever takes the time you think it will. I wonder why I continue to fool myself so easily.

Big Apple, I'm glad your surgery is over and you're feeling good enough to be bored.  Here's hoping you are happy with the result as the healing goes on.  I was not bored during my convalescence.  I did some reading, watched tv (golf channel, cooking channel, nature programs), ate the meals DH prepared for me, and spent a lot of time on BC.org communicating with Fortunate, Okiegal, and Meg.  We kept wondering why others didn't join us, and eventually our little group became larger.

I had a productive morning.  DH got out the powerwasher and hooked it up with the hose for me so I could clean the patio and adjoining porch.  It's not a big machine and is just right for this job.  I also cleaned the outdoor furniture on the porch.  I also did a few chores in the house.  It feels so good to be home for an entire day and not have to go somewhere.  We had a downpour yesterday and everything looks green and happy outside.

Upcreek, this oil disaster is so bad that I try to put it out of my mind.  Time goes on and the oil keeps gushing out.  I'm wondering if it eventually isn't going to travel along the ocean currents and foul the whole planet.  I think BP is probably doing everything it can to cut off the flow, but nobody has ever dealt with this same disaster before and it's trial and error.

On a happier subject, the fresh veggies are in now, and my refrigerator is stocked with yellow squash, zuchini, eggplant, cucumbers...  We're having fresh shelled red beans for dinner tonight.  The variety  is called Horticulture.  We're also enjoying the first home-grown tomatoes of the year, and they are delicious.

    Happy Sunday to all.

BigApple:  Glad to hear you are recovering well.  Hope your pain isn't too bad.  Keep walking--it will help with the gas.  I couldn't read--I did a bit on the computer and watched a little TV and walked and walked.

Carole:  I can't imagine how much this oil disaster is affecting you.  I live far away but share in your upset.

For all you ladies harvesting your garden offerings I envy that you have fresh vegetables already!  We just planted ours here.

Didn't find any morels but found oyster mushrooms which were great and a newborn fawn sleeping in the underbrush.  We are taking a wild herb course tomorrow night with a field trip on Saturday morning.

    Hi all,

Big Apple, hope you are feeling better today. Boredom is always a problem for me. I read and watched some t.v. and made my sister take me OUT OF THE HOUSE once every few days. Even going to the drugstore seemed exciting!

I will be happy to join you all in Lucca, Italy. Please have a cappucino waiting.

It feels good to be a year out. I'm grateful and remember all of the care of family and friends.  Looking back, I realize how intensely emotional it all was. Now, with my scars finally fading to a pinkish color and my "tingles" subsided, it all seems very distant. I went swimming yesterday and now know for sure that my muscles are completely back to normal. The implants only felt slightly weird. I had full strength and range of motion and no pain, either yesterday or today.

Our lettuce is doing well, but we are still waiting on our zucchini, yellow squash, peppers and cucumbers. We'll have some yellow squash soon. Our cherry tomatoes were beginning to set, but yesterday, I accidentally pruned the wrong branch and cut down 2/3rds of the plant! Embarassed I thought my sister was going to strangle me! Oops! At least they grow fast. I'm hoping that my accidental pruning will make for a more robust plant.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

    Hi Everyone,

Big Apple, Good to hear from you. I hope you are comfortable and not in any pain. It sounds like your surgery went well. Keeping my fingers crossed you won't need additional surgery.  How was your experience with Dr. Israeli and his staff?

When I came home from the hospital I was just so happy to be home!  DH took family leave for two weeks. He rented movies, but I slept through them. I took little walks in my yard, watched TV and enjoyed everyone well wishes.

Okiegal, congratulations on one year anniversary!  I hope by next year we are totally completed with procedures...nipple tattoos and all!

Your garden sounds great.  I'm thing of building a grape arbor...maybe for next year.

Carole, I hope they get that oil pipe fixed. I feel for all involved. Are you planning a road trip this summer?

Fortunate1, my bag is packed...when do we leave!

Upcreek, my scars are a pale pink.  They feel hard on some areas. I believe it's the alloderm.  Today, while getting dress, I noticed a vertical wrinkle in the center of the scar on my right breast. Never saw it before... After my shower it seemed to fade a little...strange!

Sounds like you are having an enjoyable time...I love to be out in nature. I am still following the black bear at bear.org that gave birth on the web.  Lots of drama with these bears. Right now the cub has been lost from it mother for the second time.

I hope Ally and everyone else is doing well. Have a good night!

Good morning everyone, so many posts to read. I love it. I can't compare to your gardening, any of you. Even though I live in so called paradise, you still have to take care of a garden, and I am very lazy. Luckily a lot of it is perennial and takes care of itself. Tomatoes (my favorite) are blossoming, no fruit yet.

I read every day about the oil disaster and it makes me so sad. When I was little I assumed that the problems of the world would be solved by the time I grew up. NOT, obviously, but worse than ever? That still surprises me. How naive.

Ally, my sympathies for you and your friend. Bigapple, how are you feeling?

I drove alittle (while not drugged) and man did that kick me in the butt, my right side s exhausted and sore, so today I  am the sissy girl trying to sleep and do nothing.

Hi everyone, looks like we all took a break from the boards at the same time. My life is in crazy fast forward at the moment, getting ready for a couple of sales. This is actually normal, if that makes any sense.

Tinkerbell, good luck on your surgery. It's a revision, right? I hope you are revised beautifully.

Bigapple, I bet you're improving quickly. I hope the new breast is healing well. I am so curious about the flap.

Hugs to all, and a good day.

    Hello everyone,

Ally, Good to hear from you! I'm glad you're feeling strong enough to lift weights already! Sorry to hear about the passing your friends mom.

BigApple, Good to hear from you too. Take it easy and be a sissy girl. I hope you're feeling well and in no pain.

Tinkerbell, Good luck with your revision surgery...keep us posted. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Fortunate1, Good luck with your upcoming sales. I meant to ask you how your tattoo was coming along?

Okiegal, I'm glad that you are feeling so "normal"...swimming and all! I hope to feel normal soon too!

It's a beautiful day in NY. Yesterdays storms have taken away the heat and humidity. It is cool (in the 70') and my hair is grateful the humidity is gone! Our pool is open, but I haven't been in it yet. I've been working in my gardens and enjoy being out of the house! Smile

I hope everyone has a great day!

Hi, everyone.  Meg, I'm so envious of your 70 degree weather.  It was in the 90's today and humid.  Being out of doors is quite miserable.  I'm looking forward to our July 6 departure, heading north.

Today was Dh's birthday.  We had a delicious ribeye steak dinner.  We went out with neighbors for an early birthday dinner on Saturday night.

Hope everyone is enjoying spring/summer weather.  Good luck on your pottery sales, Fortunate.  And cotinued healing to BigApple.  Hope your surgery goes well, Tinkerbell.

    A good night to all.

Hi everyone, the weather report from San Diego is misty, gray, cool... we call it June Gloom and it arrives every year pretty much on schedule. The only ones that are caught by surprise are some unfortunate tourists, poor things. We could all be tourists, do you suppose the weather is beautiful in Lucca?

Carole, Happy Birthday to your DH! I think I would want to get out of town too, hot and humid - my least favorite. Where are you headed?

Meg, the second tattoo is next week. I'll let you all know how it goes.I'm sure it will improve the illusion. I am very ready to be done... not completely satisfied, mind you, but done.

Back to work, thanks for the good wishes.

Hi Bigapple, Nothing was recommended to me. I tried a generic Mederma-like scar gel. It didn't do anything noticeable. The scars are fading slowly.

    How are you doing?

I am impatient and sore, I guess as the nerves wake up I'll be living with sore for a while. I am off the pecocet and trying to get by with advil. My sleep is still messed up, so I am trying unisom tonight and see if that helps.

Everything looks good so far, no sign of necrosis or infection, I still have one drain in, but that should be out by Monday. I must be on the way to healing to be as antsy as I am. Thank you so much for asking.

I saw your post on the weather in San Diego, I will be there for a conference the first week of November, what should I expect of the weather?

Bigapple, That is so good to hear. Hate those drains, but they do their job. It would be great if lots of nerves woke up and you ended up with a lot of feeling. Is that possible?

San Diego weather is rather unpredictable ( exceptions - June Gloom and heat in Sept.) but seldom very bad. I know this isn't too helpful but it could be rainy or brilliantly clear, temp almost always 60's or 70's and cool in the evening. Hey, PM me if you'd like to get together, that would bring out great weather for sure.

BigApple, I used Mederma since there was a tube handy in the bathroom.  DH used it when he had plastic surgery on his nose following removal of a skin cancer.  My scars are very faint pink now, 11 months out from surgery.  Do you have an abdominal incision?

We're having a heat wave with temps in the 90's and heat index in the 100's.  I perspire so much when I do anything outdoors that I have terrible muscle cramps from dehydration and loss of electrolytes.  I've stocked up on Smart Water with electrolytes and tonic water which contains quinine.

This morning when I was outside doing some yard work, some bees flew out at me from a large azalea shrub.  They weren't aggressive like yellow jackets so I edged closer to look and discovered a bee hive.  It's really neat looking, like white netting formed loosely into a lopsided ball shape.  The white substance is the wax the bees create.

I'm using up meat in the freezer as we get closer to the time for moving into the 5th wheel and heading north.  This morning I cooked a baking hen, but didn't bake it.  I removed the skin and cut the hen into pieces, dredged the pieces in seasoned flour and browned them in a dutch oven.  Sauteed onions and garlic in the oil and butter mixture in the pot.  Added white wine, chicken broth and chopped fresh rosemary and sage.  Returned the chicken pieces to the pot and simmered.  This is a version of southern "smothered" chicken.  Tonight we'll have chicken and gravy over brown rice.

Hope everyone is feeling good and doing well.
