    Good morning,

Happy Thanksgiving to you All !

I received an email from Rev. Lelless from Toronto, Aspasia passed away yesterday Nov 24th at 4:30pm EST.  I want to thank you for praying for her.  May she finds happiness and eternal peace.  I just spoke with one of the nurses at the nursing home that Aspasia was suffering in pain for almost a month.

Happy Thanksgiving to my sisters here on BC.org...I'm very thankful for having met you.  You all inspire me each day to be a better person.

I have treatment #4 tomorrow, so I"m asking for some prayers if you could.  I find myself nervous each time I go...although, after this one, there will only be 2 left.  Husband has to go out of town again...he leaves Monday and will be gone 10 days....I'm hoping side effects will be minimal and tolerable...although, I know they are accumulating and that makes me nervous as well.

I hope this holiday is a blessed one for you all...I hope you all feel the blessing bestowed upon you as well...

    peace and prayers,

    Tori

Paula-thanks for checking on me...actually, my sister lives in Germany...that is why it's a bit easier for her to get to Fatima and Lourdes...

I don't have any friends here...but, I should be okay (God willing)...I'm all stocked up with with meds, food, etc...if anything does come up I'm a phone call away from doctor...,my military husband had to leave after my 2nd treatment for almost 2 weeks and I just checked in on here as often as I could to check and give updates...If my treatments stay like they have been, I should be okay...I know the accumulating part is the yuckiest...same side effects, they just last longer and sometimes are a bit worse...

My sister updated her FB today and just got back from Fatima...I haven't spoken to her yet, but I'm sure I'l be getting an email from her so I can update you all on her trip...I'm sure it was most blessed...

Have a great night...took my 2nd steroid of the day, so I'm sure I'l be up for awhile...and Kohl's does open up at 3am...hmmmmmm....

    peace and prayers,

    Tori

I am so happy to find this thread!!  Please pray for my youngest daughter Jessica.  Today is her 2 year survival date (11/25/08).  She was dx'd with stage 4 colorectal ca 3 days after her 30th birthday. Thank you for posting the Novena to St. Peregrine.  I am starting the Novena for her (and all of us) tonight!

    Sherry,

Welcome. I am so happy your daughter is celebrating her 2 year anniversary. I just had a nice chat with my mom's friend who also started praying to St. Peregrine when her friend was diagnosed with cancer. This is a super bunch of ladies here, and they and some others here at BCO have given me a lot. Please join us in prayer, growth and Sisterhood :)

    Paula,

I am so sad to hear that Aspasia suffered so. I thank you for being her Angel, and being her voice. We know she is free of pain now, and surrounded by love and peace. I cried a bit when I heard the truth about her last month. Is that Nurse willing to speak out further, did she seem to be trying to say something anonymously to you? As a Nurse, I am deeply disappointed in my Profession, we are supposed to advocate and be the voices for those who cannot speak. But you did your absolute best, and I hope you know you are a leader, and that your have shown others what it means to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. God bless you Sister Aspasia. Paula, I have no doubts you will see her again some day, after your hair has turned white, and you have seen your grandchildren grow up.

    thank you.

    Tori,

And I feel blessed to have met You. (as well as everyone else here) You are brave my friend, and we hold you in our hearts. I sincerely pray that you will have an easy go of it. Please don't hesitate to call on us, and sometimes I had to yell out during my chemo. So if you need to yell, vent, get a little love or a lot, please feel free. I ask for Archangel Raphael to come to your assistance, and to gather your Angels as you prepare for the next round. Call on Mother Mary to take care of you, and imagine yourself laying your head in her lap, with her stroking your hair and head. We love you Tori!

I hope everyone had a lovely day! I had a wonderful time at my friend's house with her family. Her mom and I had a nice chat about St. Peregrine, and all that I have learned since I met you all. It was great. My kiddo was having issues still, so back to the Vets, except we had to go to the Vet hospital (she was not in bad shape, I just knew we were headed for troubles by tomorrow.) We re-started her antibiotics, and they rightly said we should have had a full course as I try to switch her food again. She is already better, thank God! If she needs to continue them until her food is available again (early January,) they reassured me that there will be no harm to her. I guess some dogs have to be on them for life that have such troubles, so I feel a lot better knowing we will be able to travel for X Mas and I don't have to worry about needing a Vet, as they will give me antibiotics to travel with, even if my regular vet won't. (I haven't asked them yet, but the Vet will put this in their note from today and fax it to them.)

So all in all, a good day :)

Sherry ~ a warm welcome to you.

Traci ~ I started to weep as I read your post.  I know I tried but it didn't seem good enough.  The nurse that I spoke with this morning was willing to tell me.  She said Aspasia was unresponsive the last 2 days.  She was suffering close to a month.  I also spoke to another nurse assistant last Sunday, that Aspasia was given morphine every 4 hours thru a butterfly clip (sic)? Port ?I asked whether there was an IV drip and she told me that that particular nursing home is not equipped to give IVs.

The nurse today said something like "Aspasia was an orphan", I know Aspasia told me something about herself 2 years ago but I cannot remember for sure.  I just know that she was not married and never bore children.

I want to share the email with you...

    "Hi Paula,
I would like to extend my sincerest sympathy at the loss of your friend, Aspasia. She will be missed by many of us at the Centre and by you. Thank you for offering such loving kindness and care for her. She did appreciate our mentioning that you had phoned and were thinking of her. I also invited a couple of priests in to give Last Rites and to absolve her from any sense of sins she may have been feeling. We did our best to keep her comfortable and she died peacefully at the centre In her room.
I would like to send you information on the memorial service in which we will remember her. Please send me a mailing address, so that I may do so.
    Many blessings from above,
    Rev. Norma Lelless"

Are we meeting here tomorrow night for prayers?  If so what time?

    Oh Paula,

That is such a beautiful, gorgeous email!

Just as an aside, a "butterfly needle" is a way to gain venous access, and can act as a temporary IV. When I worked outpatient, we would infuse through a butterfly...it just does not have a flexible catheter, so cannot stay in unmonitored.  Morphine can be given IV, intramuscularly, subcutaneously or orally. probably rectally (many meds can go that route.) So she would still receive the morphine through a butterfly and it still be effective. My mom had a little needle placed in her skin that helped her receive subcutaneous pain meds without needing to stick her every time. The meds would just be felt a little more slowly than IV.

You dDID make her passing better, and you taught them that EACH person, orphaned or alone, with or without children is loved. Yes, they failed to bring in Palliative care before you kept calling, and I PRAY that your actions will be remembered by all who cared for her, and all who saw her the previous month. You make me very proud, and this is what makes life worth living. The ability to effect change, and to leave your mark. God Bless You, and Aspasia, we are happy your journey here is over, and that you have been renewed.

    Betty,

Love the Finger Lake region. My Dad grew up in a little town near Ithaca, and we would love to go to the lake, and then climb in the gorges. I think I have swum in every lake in that region, and many more in NYS. Drive safely... But frankly, if you are from Buffalo, you are seasoned. Congrats on your 3 years anniversary! Thanks for you well wishes for my kiddo. This too shall pass, and I will never get caught in a recall again. Sounds like you had a wonderful day, and make sure you get some rest :)

    Tori,

Don't be too hard on yourself. I pitched many fits when I heard that weight gain is part of this whole package. I put on 35 between after surgery laying about, and 25 of those were from food cravings during chemo (plus water weight gain too.) I have 20 lbs off to date. You know what? I just remembered my dream from last night! I was in a group of women, and we had a male trainer who gave me a 20 lb weight loss goal from my weight now. LOL!

It was very hard for my to see myself blow up, my whole face round. Then there were so many inconsiderate people/patients that gave their opinion (you got big,) you are fat. I kid you not. It was really tough for me. So I told a few off, made it known that in my culture we don't make those comments...and we all moved on. It will come off naturally, and you will go back to your baseline. A little weight in the face will make anyone look a little younger :) So hold your head high, and know this will come right back off after chemo. My sister got me a bunch of black stretchy yoga pants and cute long tops to wear over them.

    alright, I am rambling...

Blessings for you treatment today, and praying you will cared for dearly by your Angels.

Hi Sherri - glad you found us!  You can also add your prayer intentions on the Catholic intentions thread!

Tori - I said a prayer that you treatment today will be uneventful especially while your husband is away. Check in with us so we know you're OK.

Paula - so sorry about Aspasia.  I hope she is soaring with the angels now.

Betty - three years is a BIG milestone.  My onc told me the highest risk of recurrence is within 2 years - so whatever you're doing is working!

Laura - hope you have a fun time with the family!

Apple, Ellie, Sheila, Theresa, Traci, Pat, Hood, PrayersAnswered, Michelle & all - may God keep us safe from bc and send a miraculous breakthrough to wipe this disease from the face of the earth.

ps - I'm so full from yesterday I didn't even want breakfast this morning! :)

    Sisters,

Treatment went well, thanks be to God.  I am relaxing at home and may even try to go to a movie with my husband later...(gotta take use of the feeling good!)....

As I said earlier, my sister is back from Fatima. I have not spoken to her yet, but I'm sure her story is beautiful and I will share it with you after I talk to her...She did, however, post some beautiful pictures from Fatima, that I would love to share with you all.  Anyone out there able to help me do that?  I'm not that good with pictures to begin with, so you may have to give me baby steps to do it...especially with this site...  :)

Paula-my sincere condolences on Aspasia..my prayers go out to you...

I hope everyone is well today...thanks so much for your prayers for me with this treatment.  I can't tell you how blessed and honored I feel to have you all praying for me and for each other.

I hope you all feel blessed today...

    peace and prayers,

    Tori

It will take me a few days to catch up on all the postings here.  We will be having my family over for dinner tomorrow, then Sunday will truly be a day of rest!

Skip and I attended Mass at St. Edwards in Shelton Washington last Sunday.  In their bulletin, they had a saying that really spoke to me --- Christmas, it's not your birthday.  How much are we caught up on buying gifts and receiving gifts when it's Jesus' birthday.  What would Jesus want today for Christmas from us and what would Jesus want us to receive?  Certainly not material things.

Since we are not having Friday night prayer (you probably posted something about it while I was gone), I'll sign off with a prayer for you all and get ready for bed.

Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake, watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep rest in his peace.
