This economy is unprecidented in our lifetime - so, the difficulty of running of business is no overstatement!  I can't offer you any advice as to what to do, but I will certainly pray for you and for your ability to care for yourself and the 4 other stylist who rely on you (what a responsibility).

    Pat,

It is a tremendous responsibility, and I bet a 24/7  "child." Let us pray for the window of opportunity to open, and for new life to be infused into Laura's business. Maybe there will be a whole new endeavor that spawns from this. Hang in there Laura...I honestly feel that your genuine spirit will be rewarded.

Wow, so many great posts tonight.

Traci ~ good luck with getting the port out tomorrow!!! and the blood work too!!! Your scrap book sounds like fun.  I am thinking of doing a collage of pictures of my kids and I and DH to send to my mom for Christmas.  I will have to hurry to make the mail deadline, she lives in Canada.

Tori ~ thank God everybody is safe, whew!  And glad that your DH is back and you didn't have too much SE :)

Prayers for Traci for quick & uneventful port removal!  Bet you'll feel so good that it is GONE!!

Laura - I studied business too & spent career mostly in marketing.  I so admire entrepreneurs!!  If I had it to do over again, I would have loved my own business instead of working for a corporation.  So here's another idea from a "wanna be" - as you no doubt know, word of mouth is also a powerful tool (and cheaper than advertising too).  Type & print out some cute flyers to give to your existing customers.  Offer a discount on a haircut or color for each friend they refer.  Plus the new customer got a discount for the first visit. My salon did that last year and worked for me!!  I took 3 cards & sent 3 new customers!! :):)  People will do anything to save some money :)

    Janet... thank you..:)

I have done that too...:).... for every color client. our good color clients send us... THEY get $10.00 off their color. One lady sent my girls 4 new color clients... and her $40.00 color was free. It does work...

I have never seen , none uf us really have, and economy like this. My Salon is hanging... but at this point in my life... I really thought it might be different.. and I keep praying it will as the economy recovers. Warren Buffet said next year.. the end of 11' should be a break.. I PRAY he is right.

I have been blessed that my salon is hanging in... due to being in my area for 15+ yrs.  and we have a client base.... there is a franchised Hair Salon that CLOSED ... WOW.. that one threw me. Usually they can ride on the coat tails... through a bad spurt.

THANK YOU dearly ladies for offering so much help...

I am typing all this AT WORK... as I am processing a color... LOL

    Peace and Bubble Gum girls!

I will not be here tonight... I am taking my girls out for their Christmas party...

    Hello Sweet Ladies,

I love you all for being so supportive. No propofol ( I forgot, that's with the epidural injections...) I did some nice versed and fentynl, and quite a nap afterwards. I remember saying ouch! a few times during the lidocaine, the versed takes away the stoicsm I usually have, LOL. It was funny, they showed it to me, and it was such a pretty color of purple. They said the next case was a port insertion, and I of course asked them to at least wash it with soap and water before giving it to the next person (sorry, I am one of those Nurses that usually ruins dinner conversations...) So, I am home, chilling out, and not too uncomortable.

    Paula,

I know you have posted a prayer for financial stability, perhaps we could put this on our prayer list tonight with intentions for Laura's business, and any (or all ) of us who are going through the stress of the economy, along with our medical bills?

Traci ~ so glad that your port is out and you're resting.  So no propofol eh ?  Well, maybe they didn't think you're Michael Jackson (just kidding - LOL).

I will post the Advent Reading and the regular prayers, I may not be able to join later, but will try.

    Hugs to all!

    Second week of Advent

O Jesus, in an empty desert Your prophet John proclaimed: God is here, at your side.

God has come to bring about a kingdom where injustice and suffering will be no more, where tears will be wiped away, and where those who turn to God will feast at a banquet.

"Turn now, Your God is standing at Your side. Reform Your lives, God's kingdom is at hand." In an empty desert John said these things.

Give me faith like John's O Lord, strong enough to believe even in a desert that You and Your kingdom are no farther from me than my hand.  Make my heart strong like his, not swayed by trials or snared by false pleasures.  Give me courage to be faithful until Your promises are fulfilled.

O King of all nations, Jesus Christ, only joy of every heart, come and save Your people.

    Beginning of the Prayer Meeting

We have gathered today to pray together, that we may grow in our understanding of the mystery of faith and follow God's path ever more closely.  (time of silence) [ the leader of the group will say the following] Lord, pour out on us the spirit of understanding, truth, and peace. Help us to strive with all our hearts to know what is pleasing to you, and when we know your will make us determined to do it.  We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

    Memorare

Remember, most loving Virgin Mary, never was it heard that anyone who turned to you for help was left unaided.  Inspired by this confidence, though burdened by my sins, I run to you for protection. Mother of the Word of God, do not despise my words of pleading but be merciful and hear my prayer. Amen.

    Prayer to Saint Peregrine

O great St. Peregrine, you have been called "The Mighty," "The Wonder-Worker," because of

the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to

you.  For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you.

(Pause here and silently recall the names of the sick for whom you are praying)

Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a

song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy. Amen

    Prayer for Healing

Lord Jesus, You are my physician who comes from heaven to heal me. Help me to resolve to put all my trust in You alone and to patiently undergo my treatment. Lord, You can uproot and heal my sickness and ease my fears. I ask You please for my healing. Amen!

    Closing Prayer

May the Lord bless and keep us. May He make His face to shine upon us and be gracious to us. May the Lord look kindly upon us, and grant us a lasting peace. Amen

    End of prayer meeting

Through this meeting Jesus himself has spoken to us. Since our task is to conform our lives to the Word we have heard, let us raise our minds and hearts to God, praying that he may guide us through the Holy Spirit and give us the power always to do what is pleasing to him. (a moment of silence and say The Lord's Prayer = Our Father).

[then the leader says the prayer of blessing with hands joined]

We thank you and bless you, Lord our God. In times past you spoke in many varied ways through the prophets, but in this, the final age, you have spoken through your Son to reveal to all nations the riches of your grace.  May we who have met to ponder the Scriptures be filled with the knowledge of your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, and, pleasing you as we should in all things, may we bear fruit in every good work. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

For those of you who have not already seen the Stage IV Miracle Request thread, plans are to pray on Christmas morning -- for all of us with breast cancer and especially those listed by name who need our prayers most -- to experience miracles in treatment and a cure.

    Dreaming,

Please join us :) I know I have been met with such graciousness of spirit with the women here. I support anyone's right to believe what they do, but I have not seen the loving spirit that exists here, so that speaks for itself (for me.) We try to come together Friday evenings at 10:00, and our Dear Paula has posted tonight's prayers. There there is our daily worship and walking waking prayers.

    Janet,

That sounds so beautiful for Christmas day.

I will be back at 10:00, and hoping to see a few faces. I know this is a busy time of year...

    Betty,

You are so right about us having much to be thankful for. I used to not understand when my patients would talk of being grateful...they have battled homelessness, a disease that 15 years ago was a death sentence. And now I think I know better when they talk about being thankful. Sometimes you have to be stripped down to understand what you do have. at least for me this has been true.

We haven't heard from PrayersareAnswered in a long while.  I'm hoping she's getting along OK on chemo.

Dreaming - MERRY CHRISTMAS to you!!!  So glad you found us.  I have to admit I don't know who Father Pio is?? - will have to google.

    Amen.

I most sincerely pray that our Sisters who are suffering will find respite, and those who are struggling will be granted peace and serenity. It is your will God and not our own, and I humbly ask that I may be open to the gifts presented to me along my journey. The greatest way to honor you and all who have come before me is to be grateful for all I have. Please help me to walk in love, not in anger, and to hear your ever present dialogue.

Sweet Dreams Sisters, and may you all be reminded of God's Grace during this season of miracles.

Sorry sisters, but I fell asleep on the couch watching The Flintstones with my grandson.  I guess this busy week finally paid it's toll on my body!

Welcome dreaming!  Blessed Advent to you!

Traci - I guess I didn't know you had a port still in.  I pray you have a speedy recovery!  How's Delilah?

We had a man come to our SFO meeting last summer who had a relic of Padre Pio and told his story.  Yes, Janet, he's worth a Google! :-)

Paula - thank you so much for posting the prayers... I at least said them this evening, even though I was a Johnny Come Lately tonight.

I like the idea of Christmas morning prayer. Thanks for pointing it out Janet.

We have snow on the ground here in the Shenandoah Valley!  My daughter sent me a picture while I was at work in Arlington, otherwise it would have been hard to believe.  Not a flake at work.  It's just a dusting, but enough that it didn't melt during the day.

    _________________________________________

Now, Master, you let your servant go in peace.   You have fulfilled your promise. My own eyes have seen your salvation,   which you have prepared in the sight of all peoples. A light to bring the Gentiles from darkness;   the glory of your people Israel. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,   as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,   world without end. Amen. Keep us safe, Lord, while we are awake, and guard us as we sleep, so that we can keep watch with Christ and rest in peace.

Let us pray. Lord, let us be so united with your only Son that we become worthy to rise with him into new life, who lives and reigns for ever and ever, Amen.

May the almighty Lord grant us a quiet night and a perfect end.

    AMEN

Lord, please send peace and understanding of Your will to Laura during these hard economic times.  She was Your servant during the good years and remains Your servant during the hard years.  Whatever Your will is for her, show her Your path.  If it's for continued success in the salon, Praise be to God!  If it's for letting go and following You down another path, Praise be to God!  Her life is open to You and all Your possibilities!  Amen

Hi!  I haven't posted here before, although I did somehow manage to send a blank post a few weeks ago, and was touched to be welcomed based on just my name and no post!  I hope you don't mind, but I have been reading for a month or so, (but was unable to post due to some weird technological glitch) and I feel like I know you all!  I was sad about Aspasia-- but touched by the love and advocacy shown to her.  I've been following Delilah's trials and tribulations, and the ups and downs of folks as they go through various treatments.  I have been interested in the other parts of your lives that you all share with one another, but I am so struck by, and love, how kind and supportive you all are--truly being Christ for one another, and I would be honored to join your group.
Just a bit of info. to introduce myself:  I was given my breast cancer diagnosis on August 26th of this year.  I had a lumpectomy and then a re-excision to get clear margins.  My Oncotype DX score was 23--in the "we don't know if chemo will help" category.  I decided that I would be absolutely furious with myself if I didn't do chemo ("crappo" as I prefer to call it) and it came back.  Now if it comes back I will at least know I did everything I could to kill the beast.  So I'm doing CMF for the next 6 months--I take Cytoxan pills daily and go every Tuesday for the infusion of the other 2 drugs.  Then I'll have 6 weeks of radiation, and then 5 years of whatever pill the onc. decides on.  I've been on the crappo for 3 weeks.   Other, happier info:  I have been married to a great guy for 25 years, and have no children.  I work as the office manager for our church, a job I took after getting burned out after 25+ years as a medical and then psychiatric social worker.  I love working for the church--we often go to the chapel at noon to pray the Liturgy of the Hours--how great is that? --  to get to stop in the middle of the work day to pray with the pastor and my co-workers?  Which reminds me that I have also greatly appreciated and benefitted from the many wonderful  prayers that have been posted here.  OK, that's enough about me!  I have you all in my prayers and wish you many Advent Blessings

Hi BJ !  So glad to "meet" you!!  We're here to travel this road together and find spiritual solace - just as important as all the treatments!  Welcome, welcome, welcome!

You know what?  If I can EVER figure out how to post pictures, it would be fun to see pics of everyone's nativity scenes!   Have a little virtual exhibit.  I tried for 45 minutes last night!!

God bless all my sisters and lighten our hearts today as Christmas draws near.

Today is Our Lady of Guadalupe Feast Day....

O Immaculate Virgin, Mother of the true God and Mother of the Church, who from this place reveal your clemency and your pity to all those who ask for your protection, hear the prayer that we address to you with filial trust, and present it to your Son Jesus, our sole Redeemer.Mother of Mercy, Teacher of hidden and silent sacrifice, to you, who come to meet us sinners, we dedicate on this day all our being and all our love. We also dedicate to you our life, our work, our joys, our infirmities and our sorrows. Grant peace, justice and prosperity to our peoples; for we entrust to your care all that we have and all that we are, our Lady and Mother. We wish to be entirely yours and to walk with you along the way of complete faithfulness to Jesus Christ in His Church; hold us always with your loving hand.
Virgin of Guadalupe, Mother of the Americas, we pray to you for all the Bishops, that they may lead the faithful along paths of intense Christian life, of love and humble service of God and souls. Contemplate this immense harvest, and intercede with the Lord that He may instill a hunger for holiness in the whole people of God, and grant abundant vocations of priests and religious, strong in the faith and zealous dispensers of God’s mysteries.Grant to our homes the grace of loving and respecting life in its beginnings, with the same love with which you conceived in your womb the life of the Son of God. Blessed Virgin Mary, protect our families, so that they may always be united, and bless the upbringing of our children. Our hope, look upon us with compassion, teach us to go continually to Jesus and, if we fall, help us to rise again, to return to Him, by means of the confession of our faults and sins in the Sacrament of Penance, which gives peace to the soul.
We beg you to grant us a great love for all the holy Sacraments, which are, as it were, the signs that your Son left us on earth.
Thus, Most Holy Mother, with the peace of God in our conscience, with our hearts free from evil and hatred, we will be able to bring to all true joy and true peace, which come to us from your son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who with God the Father and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns for ever and ever.
    Amen.
