Teacher sally welcome --we have just started on FRi 13th a Novena to OUR LADY of FATIMA. I took the liberty to C& p your prayer for intention to the intentions page.

There are three pages. This is the discussion page , but you will see many prayers here also, Kay fromPhilly will be posting the The Fatima prayer here and it will also be on the prayer page, which is the second page If you will please read the header for that page, it will make it clearer why we are archiving our prayers there. The third page is the Intentions page . The headrer also explains why we have that as a separate page also. If you would like to join our novena , start with day one then just continue one day longer than us.

Your Mother sounds like a wonderful woman who gave much of her life to the work od God, Christ and Our Mother Mary. Stay with us. We are blessed that you have found us.

    Day 3

The children of Fatima heard your plea to pray.  Today, we also need to pray, especially for peace in the world.  We have been reminded most painfully of how uncertain life is, and how fragile.  Yet rather than despair, we are moved to grow closer to God, so as to know the comfort of His presence in this world and in the next.  For the kingdom comes like a thief in the night; truly we know not the hour nor the day.

Show me, Mary, how to pray always.  Help me to speak to God as to a trusted friend, sharing my truest feelings.  Guide me, also, in my efforts to reach that perfect inner silence, so that I may listen for what God has to tell me.  Throughout my busy and distracting days, help me to keep my mind and my heart centered on God.

    Recite the prayers

Fatima Prayer: Most Holy Virgin, who has deigned to come to Fatima to reveal to the three little shepherds the treasures of graces hidden in the recitation of the Rosary, inspire our hearts with a sincere love of this devotion, so that by meditating on the mysteries of our redemption that are recalled in it, we may gather the fruits and obtain the conversion of sinners, the conversion of Russia, and this favor that I so earnestly seek    (state your prayer intention here)    which I ask of you in this novena, for the greater glory of God, for your own honor, and for the good of all people. Amen

So nice to catch up and read good news!  Rain for Gina, Gracie's mother, Maria's brother, etc.

Thanks Anne for posting about St. Cajetan - I did not know that saint and my son definitely needs some help in the job category.  A good Catholic woman I worked with used to say - pray to the lesser known saints - they aren't as busy. :):)

I wonder how many saints are there anyway?  THeresa - do you happen to know?

Thanks Kay for the novena prayers.

May many blessings RAIN down on all of us.  God bless.

Janet - that's cute ... pray to the lesser saints b/c they're not so busy! :-)  That goes for our friends and loved ones who passed on... they want to help us now too!

    From what I read:
The original edition of Butler's Lives of the Saints, published between 1756 and 1759, had 1,486 entries. The 1956 revision contained 2,565.

    So 2565 and counting.

We had 2nd Graders get their First Communion today and Father gave a nice sermon about Psalm 23, which was our Responsorial Psalm. He related the verses to the Sacraments of the Catholic Church:

    Psalm 23

A psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack.
    In green pastures you let me graze; to safe waters (Sacrament of Baptism) you lead me;
you restore my strength (Sacrament of Penance). You guide me along the right path for the sake of your name.
Even when I walk through a dark valley (Sacrament of Annointing of Sick), I fear no harm for you are at my side; your rod and staff give me courage.
You set a table before me (Sacrament of Eucharist) as my enemies watch; You anoint my head with oil (Sacrament of Confirmation); my cup overflows.
Only goodness and love will pursue me all the days of my life (Sacrament of Marriage or Vocations or Dedicated Single Life); I will dwell in the house of the LORD for years to come.

God takes care of our every need in visible, concrete forms!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Kay, for posting the prayers!

    Day 4

At Fatima, Mary, you called on us to make sacrifices.  The great needs of our suffering brothers and sisters in our country and around the world ask of us sacrifices today.  Many have answered these requests with gifts of money and supplies.  Many others have chosen to serve something greater than themselves, far from the comfort of home.  Let us all be willing to give what we can; let us all seek to think less of ourselves than of those who have less.

Whisper a reminder in my ear each morning, Mary, to offer all my day's actions, thoughts, and words, all my gifts of time and treasure, to God.  As I make this offering, I call to mind all the people affected by my actions each day.  I ask God today to help me to be motivated by love and compassion in all that I do.

Good evening quiet sisters,

    Lots of praying and intentions!

I pray for all those starting treatments this week... Kay and someone else, right?

I have strep throat ... arrrggghhh.  It's always something.

I hope to share with you some of the lesson I had this past Saturday at my SFO meeting.  We talked about Humility.  Tough one.  We, especially women of the 60s and 70s generation, were raised to be more "out there" with our rights and my share and working in the corporate world, it's very difficult to be humble.  All three of my teachers are retired women, one of them is retired Army, so we've all walked the path or are walking it.  To embrace Franciscanism, which is embracing Christ, I have to keep my mouth shut, when I want to open it and protest.  It means giving every minute of my day to Christ, total dependence.  I'll type some quotes from the lesson when I'm not so sleepy from antibiotics! :-)

    Have a blessed week!

Hope your felling better Theresa. Strep throat can be so painful.

Well I have noticed when we have a novena our postings go way down. It takes allot of time. I have had the time so have been saying the rosary with the intentions. It's very fufilling because I feel like i'm really concentrating on each intention. I hope this doesn't sound too prideful, But the rosary was my moms and it was given to her by a seminarian that helped dress Pope JohnPaul 2nd when he was in the USA a really long time ago. The Pope in turn blessed as many rosaries as each seminarian wanted. He got one for his mom ,my mom, and I think his grand mom. So, every time I use it I feel like I must do  my best at concentrating. The odd thing is it was in a drawer forgotten about until I was decluttering in the fall. I guess I was guided to it. Mom passed in 04. And you know what the recent past has been like. So, I feel blessed.

Hope you feel bettter too Theresa.  Thanks for the prayers.  I feel good tonight!  Slept almost the whole treatment from the benedryl.  I think the nurse thought it might have been too much for me.  Sais next time they will not give me as much.  But I feel so good now, haven't felt this good for a while.  I was told the Taxol and Herceptin would be easier than the AC, and I think they were right.  Yay!

Was it 1980 Shiela?  Pope John Paul came to Phila in 1980, the year I graduated HS.  I went to a Catholic HS and one of the nuns went to a special mass for clergy and got him to bless our (the senior's) class rings.  So I have a ring blessed by the Pope John Paul II!  Unfortunately it doesn't fit any more.  When I went to Italy, I bought a rosary in the Vatican blessed by him.  I got one for my mom too.  She took mine a couple years ago (the Alzheimers).  And it got lost. :(  Still praying the rosary though.

Hope everyone is doing well.  I was concerned about the lack of posts too.

    Day 5

Mary, at Fatima you told us: "Do penance."  At this time, it may seem an especially galling task; we would rather point out how grievously we have been wronged by others.  It may seem that your Son's proverb has been turned on its head - the plank is in our brother's eye, the speck in our own.  Yet still we must turn our scrutiny upon ourselves.  Having been deeply hurt, we recognize that we have also hurt others, and we seek all the more readily to mend what we have broken.

Mary, help me find the humility to seek forgiveness for my sins and make amends for my wrongful actions.  Help me to open my heart to the healing touch of Jesus.

    Recite the prayers

Fatima Prayer: Most Holy Virgin, who has deigned to come to Fatima to reveal to the three little shepherds the treasures of graces hidden in the recitation of the Rosary, inspire our hearts with a sincere love of this devotion, so that by meditating on the mysteries of our redemption that are recalled in it, we may gather the fruits and obtain the conversion of sinners, the conversion of Russia, and this favor that I so earnestly seek    (state your prayer intention here)    which I ask of you in this novena, for the greater glory of God, for your own honor, and for the good of all people. mnmom- you surely don't need to be eloquent here!

Theresa - don't rush back to work - strep can be nasty!

You guys have inspired me - I'm going to hunt down the rosaries I bought in Rome to see if they were blessed by Pope John Paul II.  He was Pope at the time so I hope so.  We went to the Vatican (several times) and in St. Peter's Square we saw him in the window as he blessed the whole crowd.  I can't imagine holding something in my hands that has been blessed by a saint-to-be!!!  I use an old rosary that I got in the hospital when my son was born (the Catholic chaplain gave blue rosary if it was a boy and pink if it was a girl).  It has seen better days but I keep it in my purse always - 26 years now!

Sandy - I bet you're happy to be home in your own bed! :-)  We will keep Phyllis and her family in our intentions.

Janet - for some reason, my symptoms aren't so bad... not as bad as my daughters.  I had a simple sore throat - no fever.  The antibiotics make me sleepy, so I'm just going to listen to my body and go to bed early.

    Hi Laura!

Kay - I'm so glad this next round of chemo is more gentle! :-)  I remember getting the Benedryl and getting so sleepy!  I tried to sit in the room where there was a big window and the sun came through.  The nurses always gave me a blankie and it was nice a cozy... except for the IV! :-)

I have a collection of rosaries too!  I inherited my grandmother's rosary ... Christian calls them diamonds, but they're probably crystal or glass.  Nice big beads and a beautiful crucifix.  I think it's Pope John on the center piece.  Now that makes me wonder and I'll have to look it up.  I also have a Franciscan Crown rosary, but don't know how to say that by heart yet.  Yes, that would be awesome to have a rosary blessed by a Saint-to-be!  I think I have one blessed by JPII also.  Former boyfriend (between husbands!!) went to Italy and brought me back a blue rosary, I believe was blessed by JPII.

uh oh, grandsons are getting in trouble. :-(  I hear tears.

I was raised in a Catholic school run by Franciscan nuns.  They taught us gently and beautifully.  I do attribute my strength in faith to how they taught us, bible time, songs, mass, it all fell into play so naturally.

I have a beautiful rosary story too.  My first chemo nurse, Shannon, made me a silver rosary with clear beads with the breast cancer ribbon on them at each mystery.  God led me to them, no doubt.  Even my MO will pray with me, and I knew that by the cross she wears.

    Day 6

Mary, the children said they had seen a vision of hell.  All too many people around the world live in places so desperate that they might be compared to hell.  In many places, terror strikes daily and innocents die in senseless war.  The cycle of violence and revenge is perpetuated, with no end in sight.  We would do well to remember the relative comfort we are blessed with, and realize that many are not so fortunate.

Today, Mary, I pray for an easing of the suffering and injustice that mark much of the world.  I pray for all who face oppression at the hands of another.  I pray that they find a peaceful way to resolve their differences.  I pray in thanksgiving for all the blessings I enjoy; may I be always ready to share them with others.

    Recite the prayers

Fatima Prayer: Most Holy Virgin, who has deigned to come to Fatima to reveal to the three little shepherds the treasures of graces hidden in the recitation of the Rosary, inspire our hearts with a sincere love of this devotion, so that by meditating on the mysteries of our redemption that are recalled in it, we may gather the fruits and obtain the conversion of sinners, the conversion of Russia, and this favor that I so earnestly seek    (state your prayer intention here)    which I ask of you in this novena, for the greater glory of God, for your own honor, and for the good of all people. hello

I just found this web site recently and have posted a few things on "Herceptin side effects" as I am receiving Herceptin.  I have just now found this thread. i'm probably one of the very few males in here as very few men receive Herceptin but i hope you will allow me to join in as I am a practising catholic. Briefly - diagnosed with stomach cancer 27 february 2008, got chemo, surgery and more chemo.  was given the all clear in december 2008 and felt perfectly well since. you can imagine my shock and horror (and anger at God but that's a story for another time) when quite by accident on 2 august 2011 (yes i remember the dates exactly, could even tell you what time of the day it was ) it was discovered that very quietly but very aggressively it had come back and was in my liver. was immeadiately started on 24 weeks of chemo and as the cancer was protein receptive (don't ask as i don't know what that means) oncologist recommended herceptin. he had to fight a war of attrition with the health trust to be allowed to give me the herceptin which we eventually got after a 5 month fight.

I noticed that it has been posted earlier that St Peregrine is the patron saint of cancer sufferers and his feast day is 4th May . I'm sure like some of you I carry a prayer with a picture of St P on it with me each day. I have a lot of reading to do to catch up on all the posts on this thread lol.

take care all and look forward to reading all your posts.

    All

I was raised a Catholic and have brought my two sons up in the faith but have fallen away from the church for the last several years. Some to do with the horrors coming from the sexual abuse cases here in the Philadelphia area but to be quite honest from sheer lack of laziness. I haven't left prayer just the formal part of the Catholic church. I have been contemplating going back and have even engaged my husband in the thoughts (up hill battle here he is very much still angry about the sexual abuse by priests and cover up by the church that he can't get past). I just found this site and I don't believe in coincidences so clearly am getting a call from God.

I was lucky and had a lot of people praying for me (my son still goes to Catholic school so I had all the sisters praying) and I know that the power of prayer is very strong Can I ask my fellow Catholics here on this board to ofer some prayers that I will have the strength to return to the Catholic faith as a practicing Catholic and somehow can convince my husband also

I was given a "travel" rosary by a retired priest about fifteen years ago. He had purchased three of them on a recent trip to the Vatican. I was just so very happy when he told me they had been blessed by Pope John Paul II. This rosary is so special to me and so beautiful in it's simplicity for it is made of wooden beads and has a beautiful silver crucifix. The gift of the rosary is one of the most special gifts I have ever received!

I hope everyone has a blessed and peaceful day!
