Sheila - you're so sweet... thank you for that insight. :-)  Yes, I do feel more attuned to the goodness of the Lord on the weekends b/c I feel I can give more love and my priorities are on family and not on career.  The prayers during the work week help to balance the negativity I feel almost to the point to despair.  It brings me hope and comfort to know that these feelings have walked with humanity from the beginning of time.

You may often hear, as I have, that religion is just brainwashing... the Church brainwashes you into believing their doctrine.  Well, I say, O Blessed Heavenly Rain that washes my mind and soul clean!   Humanity is brainwashed every day and it's our choice how we want to be washed.  I prefer the teachings of the Church with sacred scripture and holy works which are the tools (soap, per se) to wash me clean so I can be presentable to my God.  Others choose drugs, alcohol, jobs, media (watching TV religiously), raunchy books, the popular things of society.  Those are forms of brainwashing too.  We are all slaves to something.  See Romans 6:16-23.

Gina - prayers for you and Jennifer!

It looks like we're finally going to get a break from the heat wave this week!!!  It's been a long, hot summer.

Hello everyone - old & new!  Have been trying to catch up as I've been off the board for a number of weeks.  Every night I include all of you in my prayers - so I've been with you in spirit.  It has just been one thing after another.  First, daughter's wedding plans take more time than I could have imagined.  I can't believe how far in advance these plans, contracts etc have to be made.  Sure isn't like when I got married.  Then I developed superficial blood clots in vericose vein.  I've had those vericose veins for probably 20 years and never had any problems.  I have to believe it has to do with Tamox.  They say these are not dangerous like the deep vein clots but I stopped taking Tamox until after the vein procedure they are planning in couple of weeks.  Then I was on vacation w/no laptop - which was actually very nice.

Those of you in DC area - did you happen to read the July Washingtonian article about Dr. Christine Teal?!!!  She's the head of breast surgery at GWU (an NCI center).  She's 44 and just had a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy.  She did not even have the BRCA 1 or 2 gene mutations!  Her mother was diagnosed, had lump/rads and it came back aggressively.  Dr. Teal said that from all the patients she sees, she knows there are more genetic mutations/links out there than have been identified and many are 'occult' to screenings.  So she decided on prophy mastectomies to reduce her chances of getting it herself.  It's an amazing, detailed article and the fact that the head of breast surgery at a NCI center made this decision is a pretty profound & sad statement on the state of BC.  If it's online yet, I'll post a link.  I just keep on praying for a breakthrough.

God bless each & every one and may your burdens be light.

Hi Janet!!! Welcome back, I was thinking about you recently!  yes, please post a link if you can find one.  That's interesting.  I was thinking about going off of Tamoxifen b/c I can't get rid of my aches and pains, even with exercise, but I have my semi-annual check up with my onc next week and want to really discuss the benefits and risks.  And my primary care, even though they're all in cahoots (VA Hosp Ctr).  I had a dream last night that I got BC in my non-BC breast and decided on a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy.  Hopefully, the dream was only from all my research on the topic these last couple of days! :-)

My onc and my GYN both are convinced that my family has a gene mutation but it just hasn't been discovered.  There's so much cancer in my family of all types on both sides.  But even if they did discover it, what could you do about it?  Stay on top of prevention and early diagnosis?  We do that anyway.

JV also have been thinking of you. Glad the wedding plans are commencing. Sorry about the varicose veins clots.

Your post about Teal, will likely have an impact like no other document of all researchers to date. It's like a line in the sand. What women will think and do will be more heavily weighted by her action than much else. The power of one.

My family has a rogue gene traced to paternal grandmother side. 43 first cousins one side. 11 of 19 first girl cousins have had cancer-(9 BC). 1 male cousin of 24. Braca neg. Maybe I should write to her b/c have been unable to get anyone interested in researching family. That's why I was going for the elective BMX. Then on the second step after clean mammo, a BC was found by MRI. From bx to BMX it was Jan 23 to Feb 18th. Grade 2 to grade 3, no sampling error. The most dangerous item in the grading scale is the doubling effect. That shows the aggressiveness.

hi ladies, my family too  - mom's side  - my mom breast cancer 12 years ago (5 years tamoxifine adn 5 years femera) brac - , then my cousin on my mom's side at 34 BC, then my cousin on my mom's side at 28 ovarian cancer, then my 41 year old cousin on my dad's side adrenal cancer (she passed away four months after dx), lot's of scares too.  but I have about 60 cousins on my mom side....so I guess with 1 in five getting BC we are still way above the curve?

    hi ladies

SO good to see you back Janet!! I hope all is well with you! The unidentified gene theory is being more and more developed, I work in diagnostics and most agree there is more to come. We have had no cancer in either of my families and I am really the only one besides a paternal aunt.

Ladies will you please offer up a prayer for me tomorrow I am having all of my 3 year scans tomorrow and am so nervous, I am also having a uterine biopsy at 10 am tomorrow. I am going to be scared for a week and need prayers for negative scans, health and peace. OUR Family just does not need the stress right now. Thank you in advance for keeping me close.

JV--------researchers have always known that there were more than just Braca genes that could lead to CA. What bothers me is when a cluster is found that researchers don't jump all over it

People of Celtic origin can carry a genes for hemochromotosis. Two genes have been identified. They can lead to cancers--multiple types--BC, prostate, uterine, liver---forget what others, diabetes, cardiomyopathy, Alzheimer's. Hemochromotosis is also know as Iron Storage Disease. In the past it was associated with end stage alcoholism. The uneducated doc of today will still take that approach. Each person should have a full iron panel done once a year, preferably by a doc that can interpret the results. Caught early it is very treatable, by phelbotomy.

The situation is similar to many docs ignorance of what vitaD levels mean and importance. Ten years ago rarely tested , now it is usual. But treatment patterns are all over the map. As are surrveillance of organs/bones i.e kidney that can be hurt by to much D. To much D throws the balance of calcium /phosphorus out of balance and can lead to osteoporosis.

Thanks for the info Shiela!  I am going to check out the house hen's party.  Interesting on the Celtic origin.  My son told me that there are a lot of things like that in the Irish because it's such a small island that there isn't enough of a gene pool so there are a lot of inherited bad genes.  Is that your understanding?  I am almost 100% Irish, so this interests me.  Luckily, not a lot of those diseases in my family though.  My cousin's husband has the hemochromotosis as do some of his siblings and kids.  He's the only I know though, and he's not my blood relative.  Seems to be a lot of thyroid problems in the family though.  Seems like the whole family is on synthroid.  Not me, yet any way.  Also a lot of problems with high triglycerides, not cholesterol though.  Could be we all eat the same things.  LOL

Janet - thanks for the link to the article. At first, it really freaked me out, being a Stage 1 gal on tamoxifen who did not have a mastectomy.  It's like Russian Roulette... you never know if you're going to get the bullet.  After reading it, I thought how remarkable medicine has become.  And I understand why my onc in NJ insisted I get chemo, even though my reports were good.  BC is a BEAST!  Teal's Mom and best friend had recurrences and are living to walk the walk!  My aunt had a very aggressive and advanced cancer back in the 70s.  They chemo'd the evil out of her and it never recurred.  My mother's didn't recur, but they both had mastectomies.  I had a young cousin, though, who had the aggressive type and died.  It's like you get shot by that Russian Roulette bullet and sometimes it remains in tact, you remove it and it's done, other times the bullet explodes inside and goes everywhere and you can't get all the pieces.  You never know.  It's very scary.

Michelle - I pray everything goes well for you ... healing and peace.  For you and your family.

Sheila - thanks for the link to some giggles and the hemochromotosis info.  I'm pretty much an American mutt.  I haven't had an MRI since before surgery.  Is that right/normal?  Should I ask my onc about it?  How often do you all see your surgeon?  I've had mammograms and sonogram of my fluid retention in my surgery breast, but not an MRI.

Hi Paula!  Are you feeling better?

Kay and Theresa The celtic people once covered all of Europe and the Isles. The Romans drove them back to the north and to Britain. When the romans got far enough north in all directions, they deciced there was nothing worth conquering. When they got to Ireland they didn't even bother LOL Most people think celt is Irish, but it goes way much farther back than that. The very nothern countries in Europe also carry the genes for Hemochromatosis.  The Irish that came here and fathered children with slaves spread the gene to the Afro Americans.

The iron panel I talked about can identify aberrations of iron and binding capacity. If the panel is high. A request for genetic testing is appropriate.

Theresa ----you should be on a yearly plan for MRI. But it is still very controversial, and getting approval may be hard. good luck. I have LE in left breast and axilla and upper arm, from athread here I found out about wearing a sports bra it helped. Just prior to that, I slept at about a 45 degrees angle(electric /vibrating bed) for back pain----huge difference in morning for LE and pain. used it straight for about 2 weeks then started with the sports bra. Now everything is prn.

Now if I could get passed the insomnia UGH --it's 5:30 am.

Lord, You invite all who are burdened to come to you. Allow Your healing Hand to heal me. Touch my soul with Your compassion for others; touch my heart with Your courage and infinite Love for all; touch my mind with Your Wisdom, and may my mouth always proclaim Your praise. Teach me to reach out to You in all my needs, and help me to lead others to You by my example.
Most loving Heart of Jesus, bring me health in body and spirit that I may serve You with all my strength. Touch gently this life which you have created, now and forever.
    Amen.
