Dear PatMom - hugs across the virtual miles.  I am so sorry about your brother.

Re the lymphodema risk with flying - I flew in September and pre-flight was fitted with a sleeve and gauntlet - easy to wear - just put on right before the flight and took off when we landed.  No problemo - good prevention!

I'd also love to get together and we should figure out several sites to consider.  I live in Southern New Jersey.  Years ago, when I taught in a Catholic HS we went several times to Our Lady of Czechtohova Shrine in Doylestown, PA, see http://www.czestochowa.us/content/view/12/26/  They do overnight retreats there and I found it to be a beautiful and peaceful place.

    Love to all of you!

Theresa_ i had three lymph nodes removed and was surprised that I have a 5 % risk factor. Ihe problem with a risk factor or side effect is that if you "get" you are one. So, do preventive care. I did fly once to a family funeral, gave no thought to my outcome--Didn't KNOW I HAD A RISK FACTOR. Nothing happened.

It was only after coming back to the BCO boards that i found out I had a risk.

Get a sleeve and hand glove prescribed by your doc. The problem I found out with first sleeve is it caused  brachial, radial, and ulnar nerve numbness and tingling. If I left the sleeve on it could have caused permanent damage-----off it came 3 hours.--several weeks to recover from that short of period.

I don't have and answer, try the lymphedema site thread . Theresa i am afraid your doc will pooh pooh your concern---be agressive in your request for sleeve and hand compression device. Once LE occurs it cannot be reversed no matter what anyone tries to tell you about massage, blah , blah

LE either occurs or it doesen't. Whatever we can do to prevent it , is important.

Since I have signs that it is occuring , i'm taking all steps to prevent it. Plus learn more. Be aggressive on your learning-----Add this into your search term on google "evidence based reseaech on lymphedema

Each of our cases our so individual no blanket statement cannot be made.

Thersa wow, your dream was amazing- As, your response caused you to be more tolerant of others beliefs. Can you remember what the occurrences were in the weeks before the dream? They have a connection, but what is it? Pray that you have another dream or two that brings those memories forward and gives you and answer. If you get no answer , it's okay. But to know the why,  is always releasing of the underlying concern.   Basically without knowing anything more you became more tolerant of differences.

    Good morning,

    Tori girl ~

Prayer Before Chemotherapy, Radiation, or Other Painful Procedure

O my Savior, who underwent such suffering for me on the Cross with consciousness and firmness, help me as I face this terrible trial and the physical pain associated with it.  Enable me to bear this procedure with some measure of your calmness.  May the radiation that enters my body be as your light so that it is you, O Lord, who heals me.  May the chemicals that flow into my bloodstream be as your saving grace so that it is you, O Lord, who cures my illness.  May the instruments associated with this medical procedure be as your saving hands so that it is you, O Lord, who grants me lasting health.  If I suffer, let me suffer along with you, so that these sufferings may be a sign of repentance for my sins.  Amen.

Good luck and God Bless, we will all be praying for you!

Focus on the inside, and the outside will take care of itself. Lay your motives before God daily, hourly. "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life" (Ps. 139:23-24 NLT).

I love my BC sisters! xo

    Good morning again,

I was half awake at about 5:45am and the sky is still pitch black out there.  Had a dream that my DH and I were taking a public bus, the city is Toronto.  Somehow, we got on to the bus at the back door (where people normally get off), at the bus station, you are allowed to do that.  Then found out that we didn't get the discounted tokens but the driver was nice enough for sell us his and we were able to save some money.  I think the reason for my dream is that my mom's 88th birthday is on Oct 18th, normally we are all flying in from around the world to have a family gathering.  This year, I can't go.  My brother arrived last night and one of my sisters will be arriving this afternoon.  My heart really want to be there :(  It is getting me quite emotional thinking about it, the hardest part of all, can't tell my mom my situation.  Have to tell her a white lie why I won't be there.  I hope I will be able to go around Christmas, but I've began to be terrified flying in the winter season.

    On a different topic ~

I know I have seen a prayer for those who's very sick.  I will find it and post it here for BCmomof3 and others who is very ill.  I will look for it.

I too post 95% of my posts here.  I hope that we can organize a gathering for a travel retreat, I know we all have family obligations, but that would be such a treat for ourselves!

    God Bless us ALL !

    Here's a prayer for BCmomOf3:

    Prayer for the Sick

Lord and Father, almighty and eternal God, by your blessing you give us strength and support in our frailty: turn with kindness toward this your servant, [name].  Free him/her from all illness and restore him/her to health, so that in the sure knowledge of your goodness he/she will gratefully bless your holy name.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Peace to you all on a Friday afternoon!

Tori: I'm holding you up in prayer right now.

Sheila: my doctor is taking it seriously and referred me to a clinic that will fit me for a sleeve.  I'm waiting for their call back.  I've been very careful to not allow blood pressure being taken on my right arm or my allergy shots.

The dream was many months ago, so I don't remember what lead up to it, but I will pray for enlightenment... if it's more than more tolerance toward others.  And it was more than tolerance of others religions, but of themselves and myself.  I don't know about the rest of you gals, but sometimes people just get on my nerves ... either a behavior, personality trait... the people through the glass still had those quirks about them, but everyone was accepting of each other, everyone saw Jesus in each other.  Fr Sam said, whenever you want to say something unkind to someone else, picture Jesus stepping between you and that person, then the anger/frustration/etc will go away.  We live in the human condition with lots of stress, with people who don't have the same belief system, with disease, greed... so it's very difficult to see Christ in everyone.... it's hard to see that cantankerous neighbor as having goodness deep inside.  God sees it.  And I think once we've passed from this "veil of tears", we'll be able to see it too.  We'll have that "ah ha!" moment for eternity.  But it's hard.  Jesus knows it's hard because he lived among us in flesh and blood.  He had a mother, a father, cousins, friends. He wept and laughed.  He listened to his friends and family talk about hardships and joys.  Blessed were they who had God in the flesh among them!  Blessed are we even more to have that faith that He is still among us.

Michelle:  Praise be to God for the miracle!! I am praying every day the novena, the intentions and the rosary.

Please keep my sister in your prayers.  She had another abnormal mammogram and will be going in for an MRI in November.

Please keep my DH in your prayers ... he received a not-so-nice email from his son.  Lots of resentment and anger coming from both of his sons for marrying me and moving east.  They are adults.  There needs to be healing between them.

Finished my stress test today!  Results on Monday.

My prayers for the lurkers too. :-)  You are welcome to join us.

    Theresa,

It strikes me how much other "stuff" we all have going on. It comes in waves, and luckily I am at low tide right now. Some of our Sisters here have recently lost family members, and I was reading about your Sister wondering if she has a BC history? I am not sure if you have written about it before, but she must be scared. We will add her to our prayers, in particular tonight. Then I hear about your DH's email from his son. Very unfortunate to all involved, as I don't see how angry words solve anything. So I am sorry that your DH and his sons are suffering so. Prayers for his sons to learn that loving words have more effect, and do not cause wounds.

What a dream you had. very profound. I like the idea of picturing Jesus in between you and the person you wish to confront. I will adopt that...I do time outs for myself, or remove myself to not respond until I can get my verbage into "I" statements. No, I am not always successful, but I try to stay away from most conflict.  That's why there should be a delay of 24 hours on emails such as your DH received. But some people send them anyway....I can usually come up with 100 things that are more important than the heat of what I wanted to say yesterday :)

So prayers for peace, and understanding that life is very short, and our last words to another may be our last words, so we need to choose wisely.

Traci: Yep, it's all the other stuff that makes life so complicated.  Thanks for your prayers for my sister and husband.  My sister has not had BC but has had abnormal mammos these last couple of times.  She was on hormones, which I was not happy about especially after my cancer was hormone positive.  She immediately went off, but hopefully not too late.  The doctors said the hormones would cause breast changes but since she's been off them for awhile and her mammos are still suspicious, they're doing the MRI.  I wish they hadn't waited for so long.  She's my "frank" sister who wants me to color my hair.  I told her I'd pray for her and she was brusk and said, "I'm not worried about it!"  LOL  I'm praying for her anyway.

I'm in great need of our communal prayer time tonight!  It's just the lift I need after a complicated week.  Today is the feast day of St. Teresa of Avila.  An amazing woman.  I read some of her writings today in the Office of Readings and if I can type some up tonight, I will.

From a work by Saint Teresa of Avila, virgin, Carmelite Order

Let us always be mindful of Christ's love

If Christ Jesus dwells in a man as his friend and noble leader, that man can endure all things, for Christ helps and strengthens us and never abandons us. He is a true friend. And I clearly see that if we expect to please him and receive an abundance of his graces, God desires that these graces must come to us from the hands of Christ, through his most sacred humanity, in which God takes delight.

Many, many times I have perceived this through experience. The Lord has told it to me. I have definitely seen that we must enter by this gate if we wish his Sovereign Majesty to reveal to us great and hidden mysteries. A person should desire no other path, even if he is at the summit of contemplation; on this road he walks safely. All blessings come to us through our Lord. He will teach us, for in beholding his life we find that he is the best example.

What more do we desire from such a good friend at our side? Unlike our friends in the world, he will never abandon us when we are troubled or distressed. Blessed is the one who truly loves him and always keeps him near. Let us consider the glorious Saint Paul: it seems that no other name fell from his lips than that of Jesus, because the name of Jesus was fixed and embedded in his heart. Once I had come to understand this truth, I carefully considered the lives of some of the saints, the great contemplatives, and found that they took no other path: Francis, Anthony of Padua, Bernard, Catherine of Siena. A person must walk along this path in freedom, placing himself in God's hands. If God should desire to raise us to the position of one who is an intimate and shares his secrets, we ought to accept this gladly.

Whenever we think of Christ we should recall the love that led him to bestow on us so many graces and favours, and also the great love God showed in giving us in Christ a pledge of his love; for love calls for love in return. Let us strive to keep this always before our eyes and to rouse ourselves to love him. For if at some time the Lord should grant us the grace of impressing his love on our hearts, all will become easy for us and we shall accomplish great things quickly and without effort.

    Responsory

All those who abandon the Lord shall perish.
To be near God is my happiness: I have made him my refuge.
He who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
To be near God is my happiness: I have made him my refuge.

    Dear Sisters,

I too look forwards to our Friday Nights. I have been a little sicky this week...my Dad was so sweet on the phone. As you all know, he has the same type of tumor that Rose is fighting now. I love every minute I have with my Dad, and he did take a big hit, but survived. Tonight, we also pray for BCMomof3 who is in the hospital, awaiting protocel? She prays for a miracle.

    Rose

    BCMomof3

    Jeannine

    Our Stage IV Sisters

    Apple's Brother

Paula posted her beautiful prayer for the sick, so it would be great to have this prayer for these ladies, and anyone else...I think there was another name, can you all help me with my memory?

For those who have passed on:

    Pat's Brother

    mnmom's Aunt Shirley from BC

    Sheila's Greg

Then we have Michelle's list of Intentions, and my gratitude for her ministry and remarkable dedication and service. I have enjoyed praying with you Michelle.

See you all soon, I am going to prepare my room for tonight with white candles, my Angels and some of my spiritual music.

    Namaste!

Time to roll up our sleeves we have work to do!

    Good evening sisters,

    Here's tonight's prayers.

    Prayer for Christian Unity

Lord Jesus Christ, you call us together in faith and love. Breathe again the new life of your Holy Spirit among us that we may hear your holy Word, pray in your name, seek unity among Christians, and live more fully the faith we profess. All glory and honor be yours with the Father, and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.

    Memorare

Remember, most loving Virgin Mary, never was it heard that anyone who turned to you for help was left unaided.  Inspired by this confidence, though burdened by my sins, I run to you for protection. Mother of the Word of God, do not despise my words of pleading but be merciful and hear my prayer. Amen.

    Janet's prayer

Our Father in heaven, thank You for this day and for all of our many blessings.  We know miracles and healing come only through You.  We pray for a cure for the terrible disease cancer.   Please, dear Lord, guide the hands of cancer researchers all over the world.  Open their minds to understand the mysteries of cancer so they may discover the cure in Your name.  As You have taught us, we believe with all our hearts that You need only say the word for this to come to pass.   Amen.

    Prayer to Saint Peregrine

O great St. Peregrine, you have been called "The Mighty," "The Wonder-Worker," because of

the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to

you.  For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you.

(Pause here and silently recall the names of the sick for whom you are praying)

Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a

song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy. Amen

    Prayer for Healing

Lord Jesus, You are my physician who comes from heaven to heal me. Help me to resolve to put all my trust in You alone and to patiently undergo my treatment. Lord, You can uproot and heal my sickness and ease my fears. I ask You please for my healing. Amen!

    Closing Prayer

May the Lord bless and keep us. May He make His face to shine upon us and be gracious to us. May the Lord look kindly upon us, and grant us a lasting peace. Amen
