I'm heading over to a friend's house to watch SB! There's just going to be 3 of us there so we were just gonna get a pizza. Now the hostess has informed me she's made some dip for chip & veggies, and she's made a cake. The other gal is bringing broasted chicken & potatoes! I was gonna take Costco's Asian rice cracker mix--I think the 3 of us will be gaining some serious weight this afternoon!

Barbe - The flute was the main instrument in one of my all time favorite rock bands, Jethro Tull. So we can definitely use a flautist when we play "Locomotive Breath". Check out the flute at approx 2:50 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCcwNoVSt2E
carollynn - I hear the piano in the beginning of that song, then Eph can come in with her electric guitar... then BAM! we're rocking!
And Meece, we'll need your clarinet when we do "Glow Worm" for sure.
Native, Barbe and all - we'll just sing our hearts out and we'll sound great. My ex-DH believed if you sang loudly, no one could hear if you were off-key. Once it took me forever to get him up on the stage on Karaoke night (about 6 drinks worth) and he picked "Twist & Shout" by the Beatles. The crowd loved it - haha!
We'll definitely need our groupies - you'll have to psychologically pump up the crowd into believing we're awesome. Important job - I don't like rotten tomatoes!
I'm getting kind of anxious to spend my money after all and get that practice drum set. I'm feeling a desperate need for a hobby lately.
I totally can not get into the Super Bowl, or as my son calls it "superb owl". My Atlanta Falcons just missed being there by a few seconds, so depressing.
Elimar - so happy to hear that you are feeling more and more like your old self! Sounds like you're rebounding quickly. Maybe surgery won't be necessary? And if so, I bet you'll heal from that beautifully, too!
Mame - 93 sounds like a good age to me! Your decisions are so hard right now - I know with all the careful research and thought you're putting into it you'll make a good decision.
I was totally pre-occupied with other stuff on Groundhog Day - I like your idea of making it into something big and silly, Elimar, and calling old friends up. Now I feel like I need a yard flag that says "Happy Groundhog Day"!

Not much of a football fan myself. Kind of wish I was. The food sounds fantastic. I am spending my evening with The Simpsons - mindless entertainment for a Sunday evening.
Odie - good luck with the football pool!0 -
Just roll me straight to my bed; I'm a blimp!

Annemarieh, definitely wear your new VS panties to surgery! I wore my cheetah bra/panty set, nobody saw it but me, but it made me feel good inside!

More keeps coming out of just how much money some of us make for our doctors. My MO wanted me to go on a trial that he said would not help me, but might help others. I passed.

Dianarose, When I tried to go to that page, I got the warning that it was a "Reported Attack Page." It is the L.A. Times, but if it is hacked, there could be a problem so I did not read the article.
I was never elegible for a trial. I'd have to think long and hard about it. What if you end up in the placebo group (if there is one.) But I think usually it is a blind study between the established meds. and a new one (and what if the new one fails to perform up to the established one?) I would be a little scared to take the guinea pig gamble. However, I have awesome respect for those who have the disposition and courage to participate in the trials. We all do benefit from what is learned, even if it is not the discovery of a new great treatment. Has anyone here already been in a trial? I would like to hear first-hand about it.

annamarieh, The VS panties would be traded in for a gown, so they would wind up being for your eyes only. However, if you showed up with a bizarre and unusual tattoo, that would get everyone talking. Think about it.
Where's paula66? I think she would do it.

Don't get me going on the Super Bowl. (Remember I wrote a very funny game preview last year? Worth searching for.) I had to be for the underdog Ravens, but they got me mad when they didn't go for that easy 3 point field goal and instead went for goal. That was some brother v. brother stupid coaching hubris right there. Then in the end, I hated that play where SF had the incomplete pass (that sure looked like holding on three different replays) so then they didn't have the oppty. to kick for a three points that could have led to a tie game; and I hate when an official's call directly determines the outcome of the game like that. So, the Ravens won (yay) but not in a 100% honorable way. I'm a big fan of the honorable win.

Eli, LOL, to me what you just wrote reads approximately like "splrg splt blprm xckus fgtrw ..." All I get from watching football is that a lot of very large men run around and crash into each other. I also wish that all these team sports would have a large flag above each goal/basket with the color of the team supposed to score there. That way I might be able to figure out what is going on, but I can never remember who belongs where.

I had to go into my sewing room to watch the game because I knew I would be asking too many questions and irritating DH. It was best for our marriage. And I got a sewing project started AND completed.

I had the game on in the other room and finally was lured in there when the power went out. I thought that might be interesting for a while. Then, when SF starting coming back, I gave in to my inner football fan and watched the rest of the game. Yes Elimar, that was such a painfully ignored holding call. Like my friends and I said 2 weeks ago, the refs beat Atlanta. We were wondering if the replacement refs were back! Well, the Harbaugh brothers will have something to argue about for many get-togethers to come.
So, I missed most of the commercials but was unfortunate enough to see the Go Daddy "kissing" commercial. I got online and looked up the Oreo Cookies or Cream commercial - that was funny!
I had no party planned, no fun food, not a Cheeto to be found.
Elimar, I'm going to have to look up your pre-game review for last year!

Let me help you out HnS76: http://community.breastcancer.org/topic_post?forum_id=109&id=739321&page=615
Seems that my "cuter Q-back" prognostication technique once again hit the mark this year. Flacco beats Kap, no contest.

That was great! Poor Tom Brady - Mr. Potato Head with a closed-head injury, that's baaaad. Really no point in doing one this year - Flacco is a stud.
About the trial stuff - I asked if I qualified for the BRCA test and I didn't (only my mother had breast cancer and that's not enough) so they asked me if I wanted to participate in some DNA test in the City of Hope - I like that name.... They sent me the information and I lost it, but the lady just called again and will send it again . Anyway, it's a huge study that most oncologists don't talk/know about - I don't know which. But it's for any kind of cancer, they just take a blood sample and you fill out a health questionnaire and they are looking for genetic mutations that might show a pattern for cancer.

Odie hope you enjoyed the Sangria!! Take favorite sweet red wine, pour into a pitcher squeeze juice of an orange and a lemon in it, slice and orange and a lemon and put into pitcher, add 7 up or ginger ale and enjoy!!
Ok the food was great, we played cards and laughed a lot did nto see much of the game, like I said I'm into the game for the food!!!Have to be good this week. oh well
I am in a trial for oncotype scores, mine was in the gray zone so they are trying to figure out best therapy. Won't help me but maybe fine tune for others.

The guy on the far right was one of the 2 dancers that my sister & I made fools of ourselves about whilst on board the ship!

Cinical trials - I did two. One was for a diff way of doing sentinel node biopsy for quicker results so that surgery could be modified if necess. To be honest, I forgot about it until a year later when they called me from duke research center to ask me some follow-up questions. The other was my chemo. Both legs were proven chemos, but one (mine) was a dose dense version still under clinical. My onc was the head of the research dept at a teaching hosp and I trusted her and trusted what I read, so went with it. So far, results seem fine

Eli, thanks for the walk down memory lane!! I agree that this year Flacco was the better looking, but I kinda liked the exoticness of Kaepernick.

but since I'm old enuf to be both their grandmas I guess I should just not even look!

And don't get me started on the big game either......
I'm a 49ers fan & have been since I was 15 years old. (and if you remember how old I just turned a while back, you know that is a long time!).
Needless to say, I watched the entire game & the outcome was not what I preferred....
But, it is a game & there is always next year! We've won five Super Bowls & there are more to come!
Fav commercial: Clydesdales/Budweiser
Worst commercial: that nasy, revolting GoDaddy kiss

Marlegal, thanks for doing that. That is how they did my surgery, took the sentinels, biopsied them and then continued on with the surgery based on that.

Oh Eph ...... No harm in looking is there?

Eph, I think it is very important to QOL to embrace one's inner dirty old lady
0 -
Eli,
Thanks for sharing your 2012 Superbowl prognostication! We all need to lighten up, and like Momine said, "embrace our inner dirty old lady." Guys have been doing that in reverse since the beginning of time. I would love to see your commentary on a good cave man battle (so much to make fun of; prominent foreheads, hairyness, nakedness...). Most of us, like Eph said, are old enough to at least be the QB's mothers, if not their grandmothers, but in our minds we could pull off an encounter...
And I completely agree about that disgusting Go Daddy commercial. When it came on, my stomach turned and I said "oh gross!" as my husband said, "I'll bet that guy loved doing this commercial!"
0 -
Q: What male ad exec. thought up that Go Daddy commercial?
A: All of them.
0 -
Trust me! I fully embrace my inner old lady. I put out that "no looky" comment for those who run to the prude side (altho when I truly think about it I guess none of us fit that!!!!) so just pretend I didn't say it.
Yes, the Go Daddy commercial was majorally disgusting, but look how many people are still talking about it? I much preferred the farmer clip as well as the commercial where they were all in the library.
