Very nice afternoon, sunny (finally) and in the 60's.  Walked my 2.5 mile route after supper.  It gets dark fast this time of year! ♥

Good luck tomorrow LARock. Mommyof2 sometimes I fold the laundry and don't bother putting it away I just pull things out of the basket all week! Happy Anniversary Odie. Badger I was thinking the same thing tonight, it's dark now when I come out of the gym. Pretty picture Ruth sorry you have to spend time raking after that nasty wind blew through. Body Jam class tonight

Thinking of you LARock and hope today goes as smooth as possible.

Freestyle step with hand weights and body balance at the gym this morning.  Just may get a run in if I get back from weekend grocery shop early enough so off I go.

Good luck LARock.  Weird feeling going into chemo - like knowing you're going to get the flu ahead of time.  Nice picture, Ruth!  AnnBR - your Livestrong sounds perfect - what a great feeling to get back into it.  Odie - Happy Crystal Anniversary!!!  (I looked it up - crystal is the traditional gift for the 15th.)  Cheryl - I'm with you about sometimes never quite getting the laundry put away . .

Some of you may remember a few months ago when I saw a singer/songwriter named Cindy Alexander. She was the opening act for the Bacon Brothers, and as she got into her set, she said she was a one year b/c survivor. I chatted with her after the show and she said that BCO was a lifesaver for her, and she's singing at the upcoming BCO benefit concert. She's written some songs about her b/c experience, and so I pre-ordered her new CD, "Curve", with those songs. I just received it last week and am really enjoying it. Just to give you an example, one of the songs I enjoy is a wry take on the surgical experience called "Anesthesia":

    First I feel the cold
    Then I feel the freeze
    The the liquid kitty running
    viral through my stream
    Then out of the blue
    Faces fade to gray
As I am dismantled and the
    pieces laid on trays

I ended up having 7 surgeries, so I got pretty familiar with the feeling of going under anesthesia - that song pretty well nails it as far as I'm concerned!  The songs from the CD are in the iTunes store and Amazon.

Four mile run last night after work in the rain. Of course. I'm getting really good at stuffing my running shoes with newspaper to dry them out!  Off to the cabin this weekend - between this and that, it's been a month since we've been there!  Our running schedule calls for an 8 mile run this weekend, so we plan to run on the C&O Canal Towpath near the cabin.  Fall is pretty much at peak out there, so it should be a nice run.  And no rain in the forecast!!

Hello ladies! I see some familiar faces on this thread, and some new ones. Glad to meet you! I struggled after my surgery and through chemo and got very little exercise because of so many complications. But after I was done with chemo I knew that I had to do some serious lifestyle changes. I joined a rowing club and now I row twice a week (usually). What a difference it has made for me.....I think I am stronger than I have ever been, and it has been great for my self-esteem. Two weeks ago I competed in the Head of the Ohio Regatta. I know that I still don't get enough exercise....I have the greatest intentions to walk every day at lunch, but I get busy at work and don't do it. Perhaps joining this thread will give me some motivation and accountability. Looking at the posts about leaves made me smile.....we live on top of a hill, and inevitably a wind blows all our leaves away....so no raking for us! Although I must admit that I like to rake leaves. Shoveling snow is another matter....we shovel the driveway and the wind blows more snow in. A never ending battle! Keep up the good work, all of you!

Welcome Rhody! If you want to rake some leaves, come over to my house & I will put you to work! SmileLong ago, when I was trying to figure out how much exercise was 'enough', I read that you should get 4 hours of aerobic exercise & 3 hours of toning a week; and that is what I have tried to stick to as my guideline. I actually keep a weekly notebook to hold myself accountable, plus checking in here, plus logging into loseit.com when I get in an 'I have to lose some weight' mood.

I went to Yoga this morning. It is really cold & windy today, so I will wait on the leaves....maybe they WILL all blow away! Hahahaha....

10/17- good core/cardio work out today with my personal trainer. She checks my core/fitness levels on fridays, and we are upping the weights, kettle balls, and time I am holding things like plank much longer. We talked today how far I have come in 6 weeks. I plan to do a walk later too.

Thanks for the beautiful foliage pics everyone!

Congratulations on your anniversary, odie! Tell DH it is ruby instead of crystal & see if he will fall for it Winking.

I am back doing loseit.com (my annual checkup is in November, and I want/need to drop a few pounds to get back to last year's weight). I ended up on the treadmill for 15 minutes just now to burn off a extra few calories so I would end the day within the prescribed weight loss zone.

Hogan (my golden) and I and 3 this morning before tx. Unfortunately, he's prone to seizures and had one when we got home. He was right as rain as soon as it passed but I hate to see him go through that. His first seizure was a about two years ago and he's on Potassium bromide but they still pop up occasionally.

Ruthbru, I just ordered The Firm's "Get Chisel'd" DVD from our local library.

For indoor exercising, what are some other good DVD videos for cardio oriented exercises?

I should elaborate on my post above and mention we are looking for exercise DVD's that focus on:

    1. cardio without any jarring upper body movements (since the wife has uncomfortable tissue expanders in).
    2. 30-40 minute routines would be ideal.

How heavy-duty cardio do you want? Richard Simmons has some nice beginners DVDs. Denise Austin has some good intermediate ones, the FIRM has some great higher intensity. Most FIRM workouts (including Get Chisel'd, involve weights, but you can always do them without the weights for now). If you go on Amazon.com & look at the exercise DVD section, people give pretty thorough reviews the various workouts & you can get a good idea what might work for you from reading through them.

I walked 42 minutes today and then undid at least two days of good exercise with Mexican food. Sad

Walked my 2.5 mile route today, what a nice afternoon.  Tidied up the front porch and discovered some daffodil bulbs hiding behind a bag of potting soil.  Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

Supper with friends tonight.  Not Mex but 2H that sounds delish. ♥
