Great news Heidi!!! Love the pictures, and make me want to get out there hiking. Perhaps in a few weeks. Quite tied up until then. Big news here is that my new rug came and it's just gorgeous. Everything I had imagined and more. Perfect colors.

Funny story. As you can imagine a 5x8' wool rug is quite heavy. I had to retrieve it from the leasing office. The young woman struggled a bit to lift it. I just hoisted it over my shoulder and walked off. Her expression was priceless.

Wow Heidi - awesome!  The alps are on my bucket list.  My husband is retiring in 6 months, and I in a year or two, we are then hoping to do some trips to Europe. In fact, there is an alps hiking book on our kitchen counter right now (along with walking tours of various other countries, Scotland, France, etc.)

I have not been a good doobie with exercising lately.  I have not been to the gym in over a week, this past 3 day weekend I just lazed around the house all day, making silly excuses in my head why not to go to the gym.  My gym bag is in the car, and definitely a walk at lunch in this freakishly warm weather we are having.

Perhaps I should make an effort to log on here more often - it's been about a week since I logged on, so I haven't heard the voices :)

Absolutely gorgeous pictures Heidi,  have a wonderful vacation and great news on  your tumor markers. Auroaya have a wonderful vacation you may find that you'll incorporate things into your daily activities while you're away that count as exercise. Ruth how annoying to get dressed and hit the gym  and then find the class  was over, Ys usually have a suggestion box I would leave a message for the group x manager in there. Odie congrats on hitting your weight goal, all that hard work and sacrifice paid off.  Last night did Body Jam class, came home and fell asleep on the couch so I must have worked hard to the point of exhaustion.

I haven't had surgery or chemo yet but my doctors all say I should continue my fitness program. I run 5 miles a day, lift weights and go to yoga and spin classes 3-4 times a week. This has been my life for 30 years and cancer is not going to stop me. I have been told that exercise helps with recovery but my doctors said that I might have to cut back. We'll see, if I can take the physical pain and endurance of triathlons and marathons which i've done my whole life I think I can deal with this!

Naturalheal, welcome. I too am an avid exerciser and a marathoner (no triathlons for me however....yet!). Keep up the great attitude. I've had my lumpectomy and 1 of 6 rounds of chemo. I'm still running however I've had to reset my expectations of what a good run is. Rather than 5 miles, sometimes 2 is all I can do. Rather than a 9 mile pace, I'm okay with a 10 or 10.5 mile pace. Just listen to your body and adjust accordingly.

Wow Heidi - those pictures are jaw dropping! Thank you so much for sharing! Auroaya - have a wonderful trip! Ruth - I guess you're not one of the cool kids who got told about the class schedule change. Winking  Pat - sending my Voice to you - check in here more to hear more Voices!  Teacher - your training program sounds wonderful.

Natural - welcome!  As LA says, do what you can but you'll need to listen to your body.  Those of us who were physically active before dx are used to pushing through pain, but that's NOT what you want to do after surgery and chemo - your body is under a tremendous insult, and needs a bit of slack to be able to heal and fight off the effects of surgery and chemo.  Pushing too hard can actually backfire and delay healing and recovery if you overtax your body.  As LA says, you may need to reset your expectations during active treatment, but do stay as active as you can.  Everyone reacts differently to treatment - some people get hit hard with fatigue and can barely function, and some people sail right through with minimal side effects.  Also, how much energy you have for exercise depends on what your other obligations are in life - if you work full time during treatment, for instance, or are a primary caregiver for an elderly parent or a small child, or work a physically demanding job, you'll have less energy left over for exercise.  Respect that. Your sig says you've had nodes removed, so if you're not already familiar with lymphedema risk reduction measures you should take sometime to learn about them since you weight lift and do yoga.  Doing too much too soon could increase your risk of triggering lymphedema. Here's a link to a thread with
good info about developing a safe exercise program after b/c: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/58/topic/...

Also, you may want to check out the running thread - lots of runners of all types and abilities post there.

(BTW, LA - I could cheerfully kill for a 10.5 mile pace - my goal is to finish a race with a sub-12 time!  Happy  )

The running clinic is still keeping us busy - last night it was unseasonably warm and humid, so after doing 4.5 miles of tough interval work, we were all red, sweaty messes!  But we did it.  The schedule calls for an 8 mile run this weekend - sure hope the weather is better than last weekend's pouring rain!!

Welcome Natural, great to see you here! As others have said, you just have to see how it goes. I don't think there is any rhythm or reason to why some people do really fine & some a wiped out (kind of like when some women feel rotten during pregnancy and some 'have never felt better in my life'....as my SIL so annoyingly pointed out when I felt like crap). Whatever amount of exercise you can manage now will definitely help you bounce back sooner & better once you are done with treatment.

Pat, you better check in everyday so the Voices can get to you!

Beautiful pictures, Heidi. Glad your tests came out good!!!

Have fun Auroaya, send back some pictures for our virtual travel adventures!

The Wednesday Walking Women met at my house (the picture was taken in my front yard), walked out to and around the golf course, and then I hosted breakfast here. Another perfect fall day in North Dakota!

10/15- personal training session today for resistance. I plan to also get a walk in today before things are done too. My trainer is telling me time to ramp it up on cardio now to burn more fat and calories so that is my next plan of attack. My body is strong again, muscles are ready for bigger and longer work outs.

Heidi- wonderful photos, thanks for sharing.

Naturalhealing- keep up with exercising through treatment as you can. As others have indicated, you may have to adjust how much you do. Ask your doctors what to avoid that may interfere with healing and recovery. Eat lots of high protein for recovery too!

Great pictures Heidihill. Looks gorgeous there. Congrats on the good test results.

Ruth, how frustrating on the class schedule change. Another great Wednesday Walking Women photo but you all seem bundled up...Headphones

    Welcome to the group Naturalhealing.

Nasty rainy windy day here so was grateful for my fitness center at work. Hit the treadmill today for an interval training walk/run workout plus some weights. Trying to work the soreness out of my arm since I also got my flu shot at work today.

    hi all and welcome naturalhealing.

Heidihill, wonderful & amazing pix!  Enjoy vacation in a warmer clime (but where you live is incredibly beautiful) and congrats on test results.

Aurora, hope you have a good time in Mexico.  Hasta la vista!

Ruth, great pic of WWW and agree with Mary - mittens already?

Pat, remember the Do-Bees and Don't-Bees from Romper Room?

Cheryl, you ARE the energizer bunny! I feel like a slacker sometimes but we all go at our own pace and do what we can.  Cold rain kept me indoors the past few days plus I killed another pedometer so not logging any miles walked at this time. ♥

You would all love my Walking Women group! Anytime you happen to be in town on a Wednesday at 8 am, you have an open invitation to join us. Happy It is still very mild in the middle of the day (about 68 today) but early mornings and evenings are getting chilly. It really was quite pleasant this morning though; I was just holding my mittens, not actually wearing them!

Only walks this week as a marathon of WORK!!! But on top of everything. This afternoon is my 5 year mammogram and flu shot. I am bussing it into Seattle, then a walk up Capitol Hill to Group Health (one of Seattle's infamous hills so excellent exercise). Then back down the hill to the wine bar and date with my guy. Wonderful Indian restaurant around the corner so that is where we will be having dinner.

I got the funniest Facebook message yesterday from one of my friends. Topic was doing long distance cycling in Texas and being able to eat everything in sight. She thought of me!!!

I have to get organized for my NYC trip as leave next week at this time. Will see a friends and also meet with some clients. Not my life anymore, but still fun to go there. Lots to get done prior to heading out.

Still loving my new rug, not to mention my new cashmere sweater. I must look for my new red gloves. Perfect time to wear them and need to look just fab for my guy! - Claire

Sounds like you have a busy schedule ahead, Claire.

My Zumba teacher just posted a picture on Facebook. She is in a restaurant wearing a white chef's hat emblazed with the words  'I dance so I can eat!' Totally true!

Went to my morning class, and the very good sub did a circuit training workout, very hard & very good. I am going to do a pilates DVD now before I clean up (since I've typed it, I will have to do it).

Cheryl, our school's mascot is the Bluejay; since we are retired teachers (and most of us have hand-me-downs from our kids too), we have plenty of blue things to wear.....it's a pretty shade of blue, so that is okay.

The wind is blowing like crazy today & suddenly my lawn has a thick carpet of leaves......yikes, raking season!

Ruth: Just holding you accountable. Did you do the DVD and clean up?

Mommy: Holding you accountable also: Have you worked out on the Gazelle?

    LARock: Good luck tomorrow!

Good evening all. I just returned from my fast walk/run and have a nice sweat going on. Hard to believe that in 2 weeks the sun will be this low when it's 5:30pm.

Yes, I did the pilates DVD.

I had some errands to do, so only got some minimal raking in.....never fear, there is plenty left. Why do leaves look so much prettier when they are ON the trees!
