has anyone found a good slow motion weight training DVD. I'm doing well again with the yoga and aerobics but need to add strength training.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yesterday I did 45 min yoga and 35 min aerobics along with walking the dog twice. Sore today. Will need to shovel light snow today so that will be a nice change of pace.

Ruth and Olaf ... both are just the post I needed to read! LOL I just came back from an unprecedented 5 day break from working out. I last worked out on New Year's Eve. But, I knew by logging in I would get right back into it. I will post back today and let you all know how much I did. It will be interesting to see what creaks and pops today. I don't think this will be an 8-10 mile day, I think I need to ramp up for a few days. I'm going to clean first, which by the way is very vigorous when I do it, I pull out stuff and our vacuum is a super heavy hard-sucking machine. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Smile

Ruth - hope your DH feels better. There's some nasty bug going around - I've had a couple of co-workers go down for over a week. Your tech savvy conference sounds like fun - we definitely need more girls going into STEM fields. LB - what a clever skirt! That would be nice to put over workout stuff when running a quick errand after the gym. Inspired - vacuuming definitely counts as exercise!

Whew - what a morning - a surprise snowstorm brought DC to a standstill. Cold temps and heavy snow right in rush hour. And since the intensity was a surprise, local road crews were caught short so even major streets didn't get plowed. What a mess traffic was. We left home for work - normally a 10 minute drive. After 30 minutes we'd gone perhaps a mile, and even in our Subaru Outback we were slipping and sliding the whole way, just like everyone else. Decided to return home and take the bus, normally a 20 minute trip. We stood at the bus stop for over half an hour when one finally arrived. It was slow going - half an hour later we're still only half way there when we came to a steep hill. The bus got stuck. The driver struggled valiantly but we kept spinning our wheels and sliding sideways. The driver managed to stabilize the bus in place, and got out to check the wheels, and promptly slipped and fell down. Passengers rushed out to assist him - fortunately he was OK. Back in the bus the driver carefully backed all the way back down to the bottom of the hill, then tried again - after a lot of effort, this time he made it. We got about a mile from work when everything came to a stop at another long steep hill. No one could get up the hill - there were three other buses scattered around who couldn't make it, so we knew we couldn't. We finally got off the bus and walked the last mile to work through the snow. I certainly got my exercise today!!

Leaving for SoCal early tomorrow morning - I hear temps are in the mid-70's there. Ahhhh. WinkingHope all the flight delays from today have wound themselves down by tomorrow. Kindergarten - you'd asked where we were going - my in laws live in La Habra.

Didn't get to my Barre class today as DD was leaving for DC. I tried to get her to stay one more day due to the weather in DC. But fearless 21 yr old and her "sorostitute" is having practice tomorrow morning and she was afraid they would levy a fine on her for not being there! :( Mary, I am now in full panic mode after reading your post on your morning commute!

I did do some vacuuming and later will lift the heavy iron, as in ironing shirts. Tomorrow early morning spin.

Mary, I'm in So Cal and yes, it's in the 70s today. It's quiet warm and dry out. The DC weather sounds pretty extreme. I hope everyone is staying safe.

I walked about 1.2 miles to and from an appointment today and hope to do some more walking later. I am confirmed for my MX this Friday, so that will set me back in terms of exercising for a little bit. But I'm glad for what I'm doing now, as it can only help in my recovery efforts to be as healthy and strong as possible going into it.

Did my dance/toning class this morning, which felt very good.

Peggy, here a few toning DVDs I like:

*Denise Austin's Body Makeover Mix....three different 15 minute workouts; Upper-Body Sculpt (with weights), Lower-Body Sculpt, and Ab & Core Training.

*Denise Austin Hit the Spot 10 five-minute Target Toners......very nice, you can do the whole hour or customize your workout. If you do the hour; it starts with a 5 minute stretch, 20 minutes of upper body with weights, 20 minutes of lower body (some with weights), 10 minutes of abs (one section with weights), and a 5 minute stretch at the end.

*Denise Austin Shrink Your Fat Zones Pilates....three 15 minute workouts; Abs & Core (using a stretching band), Upper Body (with weights), and Buns & Thighs

The FIRM has some a great toning DVDs I could also recommend if you want, but they are harder and faster paced.

The down skirt looks neat but I'm afraid would not do the trick around here right now. It is so cold that it even hurts to breathe!! ThumbsDown

Agree with Mary about the morning commute. My 5.8 mile commute to work which normally takes approximately 15 minutes took an hour and a half today. The roads were miserable as there was too much traffic for road crews to work and stuck school buses only compounded the issue. It is no wonder the rest of the nation laughs at us as clearly our area does not have a clue how to handle snow.

PeggySull, good to see you on this thread and getting back into the swing of things.

No exercise for me today as I opted to skip bootcamp and head home after the long day but will march in place to get my daily step goal.

Hi all, quick pass-through. I'm several pages back so it will take time, if I get a chance, to catch up.

Mary, safe travels. At least you're going somewhere warm. My prayers will be with you and the family.

I was in 70-80 deg weather over Christmas and New Years with DS in FL. I was soooooo not looking forward to coming back to NJ. It's cold here but only got a blanket of light, fluffy snow today. Got some walking in DisneyWorld, shopping for stuff for his house, and also stayed 2 nights at a Disney hotel. They are so spread out and we were in a building the farthest from the main building where the food and transportation to parks were. You would think they would have put us in a closer building once they saw him enter using a walker and still walks extremely slow. It was only 2 nights so we just worked with it. He also works for Disney so the room was only $180/night and I got into the parks free!

I did manage to keep my eating pretty okay. Got home last Friday and have been eating well and exercising daily so feeling good.

    Night my sculpted friends.

Only exercise for me the last two days has been errands and walking while doing them. School started back yesterday and work is already getting busy again...sigh...the break was fun while it lasted!

Mary - my friend in Aldie, VA declared her own snow day! The schools were not closed and she decided not to send her 3rd grader. She knew she made the right call when she heard about all the trouble on the roads. Have a safe trip!

Patoo - Ah, Disney!! We are hoping to go there over the summer. My preference would have been to try in the Spring, but that isn't going to work so it will be a little hot for us.

Yes mel147 but you will be in the 'happiest place on earth!'

(edited to add) - Think about it. Ever been in a place with thousands and thousands of kids and none are crying! The mouse had the right idea.

1/6- took a break the past few days as I have a knee that has been bothering me and a pulled back muscle, so my body was saying "we are overdoing it, slow down!" I went for a nice end of the day 30 min walk today and will head back to the gym tomorrow.

I hope everyone is taking care of themselves. The flu is going around big time, flu shot or not!

It's mild and foggy here right now. Haven't been on my bicycle since the ill-fated ride where we spent more time with flat tires than riding. I have been running or walking every single day however. Plus my usual weekday routine.

On the work front, I have (mostly) moved on from the database work. So thrilled to have that behind me. I am also nearly over this miserable head cold. Yes, that is a really nasty flu virus that is going around. I had it back at the beginning of November. Felt much worse than any time during chemo. Really the pits. My New Year's Resolution is that THIS YEAR I will plan some time away so that I don't end up with nonstop work over the holiday. But then, I wasn't in any shape to do something like ski on Mt Rainier. But will get there by month end. Plus, I am going away in February for a weekend of skiing. Can't wait for that one.

Need to get it in gear for a call with a work project that came my way yesterday. A sales presentation that needs help. (I agree.)

I am jealous of the snow as snow = skiing! It's too warm in the lower mountains now for good x-country. BTW - REI is a Seattle outfit, and yes, I am a member. My last purchases there were Smartwool socks. Really the best and last forever. As for being warm on the bottom, my old Helly Hansen fleece tights are super toasty for running when freezing out.

Off to make my call. - Claire

I walked slowly on the treadmill for another .75 miles. I brought my Nook with me and read while I walked. It wasn't a lot, but it got me up over 2.5 miles for the day, which is my daily goal. Ruth, I like that advice. :)

    Cheryl,

I am sorry about your friend and her mom. You're right, cancer sucks!

    Great job Cassiecat.

My exercise today was 30 minutes on the Elliptical at lunch and lots of shivering. High temps in the 20's with wind chills in the single digits. Not sure how you do this Ruth.

Sleep well sculpted sisters and stay warm. (Sunny and 70's sounds really good right now)....

Cheryl, sorry to hear about your friend and her dear Mom! Hopefully, they will get on the right chemo to keep kicking her liver mets to the curb! So glad your friend has found you for support.

    Ruth, love your pictures!

Patoo, so glad you got to spend time in Disney World with your Dear Son!

    Good Job, Cassie!!!

I worked out at the gym this morning, took a 30 minute walk and played with my grandchildren! I am tired now, but the exercise keeps me energized!!

This thread sure keeps me motivated!! Thanks, everyone!!!

Olaf I am envious you can do TRX, I've tried it but spent so much time laughing trying to get my feet into the loopsLoopy Great job Cassie, you are the little engine that could, what time is your surgery on Friday? Odie I feel your pain, hopefully we'll be sending the warm your way, we had the freezing last week, this week the oven is turned up high, I was speaking to my friend in Tennessee tonight and she says it was 10 degrees in the mountains where she lives. Ruth those are truly tough looking machines.

Did Sh'bam this morning, didn't go to the gym tonight as I'm fighting another cold, everyone around me is coughing or spluttering, I just decided to have an early night and rest.
