We had a little snow this morning too, but then it warmed up and it turned to rain. I went ahead and walked in the rain with my umbrella. There was no one out except me and a group of geese. 42 minute walk and 53 active minutes as of now.

Rhody let me know what you find successful on the aromatherapy. I could use some mood enhancing, relaxing, or pain relieving ones! Although I have to say I think the exercising has lessened my pain - or maybe I just got used to it.

Claire a hot bath sounds delightful to me too after that cold wet walk. I hope you get over your cold soon.

Obviously taken last summer, it's extremely cold here at the moment. Took down the Christmas decorations, did one of the Combat DVDs, and am at a college basketball game right now ( halftime ) .

Hi and welcome, Linda. I am a preschool teacher in CT and I cannot imagine teaching the older kids.

    Cassie-congrats on the great news!

Badger- I did not know there was a concern about lavender. I just bought a candle with that scent to relax with while I soak in the tub.

I went to the gym and used the treadmill yesterday and this morning. Too cold to be outside and now it is snowing!

Today has been a sad day. I attended a funeral for a local friend of mine. 46 year old woman who died after a 12 month battle with brain cancer. Her kids are 17 and 19. My heart breaks for them...stupid cancer!!

I brought my sneakers and 5 pound weights into work yesterday. I scheduled a 1/2 hr to walk each day. My problem is my kids start early in the day, I work 8-5 and by the time i get home from work I am exhausted. SO, I'm hoping by doing it during my lunch break I am more motivated. I can lift the weights when i am on conference calls and want to punch someones face. We'll see how it goes, I'll report back. I know I have to do something, I'm up 15 pounds since finishing treatment - the number doesn't bother me but it pisses me off to not be able to wear my clothes comfortably. I still blame the hysterectomy. Blah

I did walk yesterday for a 1/2 hr during my lunch break and I was crazy productive afterwards and then crashed when I got home...LOL. Today my hips are hurting...OUT OF SHAPE!

Welcome Linzer! Happy belated birthday Kindergarten and Patoo!

Busy day at work yesterday so I didn't get down to the gym for a walk on the treadmill at lunch but I did march in place last night to get my step goal. Today I went to a holiday bootcamp session for an hour before running my usual errands which has me over 3000+ on my step goal for the day.

1/3- gym work out today featuring a 30 min core work out with the kettle bells (15 and 20 lbs) and another 40 min pounding it out on the stationary bike (40 min/8.6 miles). A little soak in the hot tub after to make my body feel okay after all that!

Ginger, re: lavender, there are conflicting studies about its estrogenic qualities.

IMHO it's OK to enjoy that candle and a nice soak in the tub! ThumbsUp

Jenjenl, welcome and taking weights to work is ambitious is my book - good for you. Ginger, I'm very sorry to read of your friend that is much too young to lose her life-so very sad indeed. Ruth your photo made me wonder what parallel universe WWW were walking in- then my scrolling down brought it all together. Happy Belated Birthday Patoo and Kindergarten!

Early morning yoga class and sadly learned this class based gym is to close at the end of January. It's been open 18 months and has as of yet to turn a profit and the owners have come to the painful decision not to continue. Hopefully, a new space will be found by the yoga teacher to move her classes.

Badger, thanks for the tip about lavender. Will have to do some more research. That bums me out because I made a great formula that has nutmeg, rosemary and lavender which feels so good on sore joints. I'm sure it's the nutmeg and rosemary that are helpful because they are warming, so I will look for some other formulas without lavender.

Did 30 minutes of pilates this morning, now to scrub the shower. That's always good for an upper body workout!

I walked about two miles with DH while we waited for DD to get out of a ballet audition. She's hoping to train away from home this summer and has lots of auditions planned for the next 8 weeks or so.

Jenjen, I sometimes do my walking at lunch too. It's a great way to get in a workout when you have those restrictions on time and daylight this time of year! Plus its a good break from work.

We had snow so i walked 40 minutes this morning, and then 30 minutes shovel and sculpt. Am I the first one to shovel and sculpt this year?

    What a lovely walk ruthbru!

I did a lot more "land exercise" over the holidays as I spent it with my 14-year old nephew. Lets just say I spent a lot of time chasing balls and getting my butt thoroughly kicked. But this weeks it's back to the pool for my 30 minute workouts most days. I have a few pounds of holiday weight to get rid of. But it was a bit of a relief to gain as I had been losing so easily that I was worried about the "M" word. Guess it was just lifestyle changes after all!

Ginger - very sorry to hear about your friend.

Rhody - Thanks for the tip about Amazon Prime having exercise videos to watch! I didn't even think of that...I am a member and have been writing down the names of some of the DVDs mentioned in this thread but hadn't looked into buying any yet. I would much rather try them for free!!

No treadmill this weekend - yesterday's exercise was walking around multiple stores and today it was loads and loads and LOADS of laundry and going up and down the stairs a lot!

Cheryl, it is and today, a new instructor for Step (surprise!) and it was a sweaty fun time, so changes do happen and I'm open for them - bring it on!

Two classes early at the gym, core and more and a fast freestyle step in a room with once again, broken air con.

Spent most of the last week with Furniture Moving N Sculpt! The painter was doing several rooms so we had to move everything away from the walls, including wall units and bookshelves. Now the painting is done, but we're having the floors refinished, so we had to move the stuff back into the painted rooms, and move it out of the rooms for the floors. The worst was wrestling the sofa and loveseat out of the living room into the dining room, but it was a good upper body workout! So now furniture, shelves, end tables, knicknack are now all crammed into whatever nook and cranny we could fit it into all over the house. It's utter chaos right now, but that's the way it goes. It will be nice looking when it's all done. We leave for SoCal Wednesday morning to see my FIL, and the floor people will get the floors done while we're gone. They've brought in hospice for my FIL and there's a meeting Thursday with the hospice social worker, so I'm so glad we'll be out there for that meeting. It's a rough time for everyone out there.

I did manage to make some time for a 45 minute run yesterday. I was tired from moving furniture so it was as slow a run as I've done in a long time - it was just one of those times that just getting out there to do something, however ugly it was, was a victory.

wow, Mary, moving furniture is quite a workout! You are in my thoughts and prayers as you journey to see your FIL. Where in SoCal? Safe journey.

25 minutes at the gym today

Once again I'm way, way behind on both reading my threads and getting workouts in. That being said, however......Mary, blessings to you and yours as you travel and face some difficult decisions and moments. Ruth, I always pay attention to the temps in ND on the weather map since I met you and brrrrr is right! Cheryl - you amaze me with the daily variety and time spent on fitness - way to go! LB - I still plan on coming to see you in England some daySmile

Sounds like I'm not the first to report shovel and sculpt but I had 90 minutes on Saturday and another 60 yesterday, then 60 minutes of early morning group class today. Cholesterol took a slight elevation with my last lab work. Not high enough for medication but it reminds me again it's time to get my butt moving.

Back in the saddle after being off for 2 weeks. There were a couple of short walks on the beach and a 6 mile bike ride on the flattest terrain in FL. Today Yin yoga w/DD and this evening TRX. Fortunate not to do the shovel and sculpt in VA! It was 70 yesterday but it's all down hill this week.

Mary so sorry about your FIL. Safe travels.

S&S, check Mark's Daily Apple and search cholesterol. Most doctors don't know enough about cholesterol and just add the HDL and LDL for total. There's a formula to use to get your true numbers.

Cassie, good to hear some good news.

Now to light a fire under DD to get organized to leave tomorrow to head back to DC and school. It's going to have to be a bonfire!

Mary, I must have missed it, but have you sold your house already? Where will you stay once you are out in March? The house disassemble is SO MUCH work! We are all thinking of you as you make what will be a hard trip.

I'll be back later to tell you about my fun, interesting day!

Ruth - we're moving March 1 for sure as we signed the lease this weekend. Shocked We're just getting all the painting, floor refinishing, and other fix up work done in preparation to put the house on the market in mid-March.

The furnishings in the new place may be a bit spare at first - we're leaving some furniture behind to "stage" the house when we put it on the market. We just decided to move out just before putting it on the market as the thought of keeping the house clean and in perfect condition 24/7 was too scary a thought. Also, having Mikey bark incessantly at every potential purchaser didn't seem like a good marketing strategy. The realtor thinks with the work we've put in, the house should sell pretty quickly. I hope he's right!!

You'd mentioned you and DH might come our way in Spring, so we'll have a new place for you to stay! Happy

Aha, yes, although Mikey has many fine points; selling real estate would not be among them! I imagine DH & I will have to start talking about summer travel plans (but not tonight, he is banished to the spare bedroom with flu-like symptoms Shocked). The friends we visit in Arizona each winter and we are talking about a couple's trip to Boston next fall, so we will have to crunch the numbers to see if another big trip is in the cards as I really, really want to get him to DC (and of course I need to take my side trip to California in June.....which we will have to start planning soon as well!).

Some of the other retired teachers and I volunteered to work at a 'TechSavvy' conference today. Not enough American kids are going into technology, math & science fields, so the AAUW is sponsoring workshops across the country to try to spark interest, and this was what was going on. They had workshops for the middle school aged boys at one site & for the girls at another. I was with the girls up at the local college. I was assigned to be the helper to one of the presenters (who looked about 14, but couldn't have been since she has a degree in Engineering!). Very, very fun with lots of hands-on activities.

Did some arms & abs at home & went to Zumba tonight. I sure felt rusty after two weeks off! Why can't we get in shape as quickly as we get out of it?????

Ruth, I'm on lookout for a scholarship in bio technology as our son would like to go to uni in the states in a few years. I just may find it via the info you offered-thanks! Mary, lots on your plate, my best to you and yours including fingers crossed, flying creates no LD flare-ups from those long flights.

I'm off to the gym yet wanted to share with you a gift I received this Christmas that is wonderful. It's a easy zip on/off down skirt that I throw on over my workout pants/capris. I received this this(<--click) one, yet REI in the states has a good selection. My bottom and legs have been much warmer-covered and feel clothed when I stop at the store on the way home from the gym. I've had a lot of compliments from other women and this might be of interest to you snow walkers.
